Brown Munde Kilmarnock in East Ayrshire

This is our first time trying this restaurant and we were not disappointed the food is absolutely fantastic, this is very different from your normal Indian restaurant. This is tapas style and gives the diner every opportunity to try new tastes. I would highly recommend this and on a plus the staff are first class with a wealth of knowledge in this industry.

This was our second visit here, the food was excellent, but the service was very poor. As per other reviews we had to wait for 20mins after arrival for a drink order to be taken and another 15mins for it to arrive. The same with our starter and main course, order was taken and about 20min before our food arrived. Cash only in this day and age is not an acceptable way to run a restaurant, probably not go back because of the poor service.

The reason for the low rating is simply related to the service and attitude of senior staff. The food was all very tasty and portion sizes were sufficient. Our dining experience was entirely ruined by the chaotic and disorganised staff who seemed to prioritise take away customers over restaurant diners. Our party of four waited twenty minutes before being asked for a drinks order, which then took another twenty minutes to arrive. We ordered food during this wait which took another half hour. When the food finally arrived and was almost thrown down on our table by a very indifferent server, my husband ordered another drink which didn’t reach us until after we had all finished our meal. No apology, just a shrug and comment about the bar staff being too slow! When we went to pay we were told it was cash only, a sign informing customers of this was on the back of the door as you leave, not very helpful. The person behind the bar was unpleasant, barking that an email had been sent to all customers so we should have cash. No email had actually been sent. All in all the experience was a real disappointment. unless staff undergo training to improve their service, and managers learn to stop openly blaming staff incompetence and improve their manner when speaking to customers, I fear the restaurant won’t be very successful.

Went with hubby and another couple and the meal was nothing short of stellar! Food tasted fresh and there was such a variety of dishes to choose from. They even had an extensive vegan menu for me. The atmosphere is very lovely, lots of little touches that make it a nice place to eat. The serving staff were all very friendly, I think they could have been a bit more attentive, but really they were fine. I'll definitely be a returning customer.

Our second to visit to Brown Munde and didn’t disappoint. Staff very friendly. Service quick but not rushed. Four dishes were sufficient for the two of us. The Machi Masala was excellent. My husband’s first taste of Kingfisher Xero and he was impressed

Food was excellent as per usual Chose the mixed platter for three and some extra bits as we were 4. Everything was beautifully cooked and the lamb melted in your mouth! The atmosphere is so nice and the service was great! We had a lovely time.

Have been to Brown Munde a few times now and cannot recommend it enough. The food is always delicious - best in Kilmarnock. The team really do work hard to make your experience great. South Indian Lamb, Lamb Chops, Spiced Haddock, and Chasni are all favourites. Will be back! Again and again.

Went for the thali lunch menu and wasn't disappointed! Perfect amount for lunch. Loved the 3 choices - veg, fish or meat - with the chef choosing the currys for each option. I had the fish platter and it was amazing. Full of flavour and a real Friday treat with colleagues. Geat price too! Everyone was delighted with their meal!

The best Indian meal I have had over the last 15 years. I travel regularly throughout Europe and the USA and this is hands down is the best I have had. Good atmosphere with great friendly staff. I 100% recommend it.

Visited this restaurant recently for a dinner with my wife. Beautiful decor, really cool. The service was friendly but not intrusive. The food was unreal - our favourite was the spiced haddock which we've never seen before. Will return and very soon!

First visit after hearing lots of good things. Excellent service. Portion sizes may be small but great opportunity to try various recipes and very filling. Great value for money & will definitely be back.

From the service to the food to the price this was a five star experience. Did I mention the food? Aubergine fritters, something a little different are a must try. Fish pakora and fish curry are a delight. And the lamb dishes, just melt in your mouth. Tapas is the way to go. There were four of us and all of us agreed this is just what Kilmarnock needed, an Indian but not just any Indian, a truly wonderful dining experience. We will be back!
