Masala Indian Restaurant in East Ayrshire

The photos of the venue on tripadvisor are not of the actual place. It is a takeaway, with 3 booths and a few tables, which look like they have been pulled out of an old closed down restaurant. This place cannot be classed as a restaurant. All the fast food takeaway customers are coming and going and the delivery drivers are sitting about. We ordered 2 starters, 2 curries, a mixed xxl kebab and some drinks. The curries were decent, no complaints, the kebab was anaemic looking, on asking they said they had cooked it in an oven as opposed to a grill or tandoor. If nowhere else is available, and you need a meal, then take your chance, I will be avoiding in the future, bill for 3 was £52, certainly not cheap for a small town.

Requested yogurt and mint sauce for the starter, charged additional £2 for sauce! Disappointed with the masala which tasted of bovril with 5 pieces of chicken. Honestly the best thing about the entire meal was the chocolate which came with the bill!

Two takeaways in a row where the tikka massala tasted of nothing. No more chances. Despite being two minutes away, we’ll go elsewhere. Don’t know how they can pass that off as Indian food.

Not the greatest food you'll ever eat. To be fair, I visited quite late on a Sunday night so perhaps I wasn't getting the best food they can offer and I was the only one in the restaurant although I imagine more people get takeaway food. I wasn't exactly impressed though. The mango lassi didn't taste of mango and had some odd fibres in it - presumably from the mango? Hard to tell. It wasn't what I was hoping for though. I had the vegetable dhansak with pilau rice which didn't really taste of anything and was generally quite bland. I put quite a bit of salt on it! Not really spicy at all though. The rice was a bit odd in that it came served on my plate for me already, when I was expecting a small dish of rice but rice is rice, it was fine. Poppadom was good but the sauces with it were odd, i had onion salad but couldn't figure out what the other was supposed to be. They kept turning the music up and down or off entirely and it was just a weird experience. Might be better when it's busier but I won't be returning to find out. It was literally the only place still serving food which is the only reason I ate there in the first place. As with all Indian restaurants, there were both gluten free and vegetarian options.

Food is always cooked to perfection. The delivery is the quickest locally as well, prices are good as it is good value for money. Chose here for any Indian chicken Tikka chasni is a favourite

Food taste is brilliant. Only problem I have now is the portions seem to be getting smaller. 2 dishes we had, had very few pieces of meat. Other than that the dishes taste amazing.

We had booked a table for five for the buffet night on a Friday. On arrival we were shown to our table and an order taken for drinks. The service throughout our meal was pleasant and friendly. The starters were a mixed platter of chicken tikka on skewers, mixed pakora, salad and garlic mushrooms. The portions were just right not too much or too little. For the main course there was a choice of vegetable curry, garlic and chilli chicken, lamb bhoona and chicken chasni all served with rice. In addition to this we chose a garlic nan from the breads available. With the variety on offer everyone had something that suited them. After the main there were traditional indian sweets on offer as well as a large chocolate cake. An enjoyable meal with good service in pleasant surroundings.

My young sister was 60 years of age and we went to this restaurant to celebrate her birthday. Two days before we telephoned the Masala and told them it was a special occasion. When we arrived un be known to my sister we were taken to our table only to be met by banners,balloons,etc. They were so thoughtful and caring and every member of staff including the Manager were so caring. What made it even better was the food, which was outstanding.Thank you Masala for a making my sisters day special.

An absolutly brilliant night food was fantastic. The staff were in traditional clothes bangra music and free henna art after your meal if you wished. Busy busy night l phoned late on in the week and they managed to squeeze us in. Fantadtic value fantadtic night. Thanks

Visited with colleagues after work and there was no one else there. Quickly served menus and offered drinks. We asked if the buffet was open (it wasn’t when we came in). The chef agreed to open it for us, was really nice as there was only 5 of us. Brought out plates of starters which were hot and delicious. The buffet was lovely however felt the chasni and korma needed more seasoning. The desserts were nice as well, however the sweets were rock solid. We needed the bill separated and receipts individually for all 5 of us and it wasn’t a problem. Overall, very pleased and will return again soon!

Booked a table here as a party of 4 prior to heading to a function at the DA and we were not disappointed - the food was great, plenty of choice on the menu and veggie options, all at a reasonable price. Staff were also very attentive and friendly. I’m not in Cumnock often but I would definitely go back for another visit soon!

This is the only traditional Indian restaurant in the town. Basic with no frills but the food is OK. Would not take the wife but more than adequate on a solo visit whilst working in the town

Don't be put off by the tatty exterior, it's okay inside. Pretty good food although my wife wasn't wild about the house curry. I enjoyed the chicken jalfrezi, good naan bread etc.

I visit this restaurant at least once a month. Normally for the lunch menu. Food is amazing and always warm and fresh. Owner is friendly and very chatty

This is not superb indian cuisine, but it is pleasant food in a nice environment at a good price. The staff are always very friendly and polite, service good, food reasonable.

Phoned masala to order a home delivery and usualy pay over the phone to hear the lady taking the order talking about me saying why does my address always have to order over the phone! Surly as a paying customer it does not matter how you pay and huffing as she had to go and get the machine! Awful service and will never order from there again.

Had dinner here BUT wish I hadn't. OVERPRICED buffet. Starters are brought to you and starters THEY THINK you want. Not what YOU want or like just what they give you.The South Indian Garlic Chilli curry HAS TO BE THE WORST I have EVER EATEN and that takes some doing.Would rather starve before I come back here

Charged me 0.80p for a can of irn bru which I was fine with... When it came it says 0.39p on the can!!! Unprofessional they should have provided two when they were at that price and for that I won't be ordering from here again! I found it shocking.

Very reasonable curry, first class service. This is however the first time that i have had a chilli and corriander naan that was in fact a plain naan (nice) with chilli powder and fresh coriander sprinkled all over it
