Been back-and-forth to the Jewel Balti for 20+ years ,takeaways and sit down. Changed a bit over a few years, but the family led by Akta is still fantastic and welcoming ,been back tonight with my grandchildren and was not disappointed so warmly welcomed back again , the food and service was outstanding as always, see you soon boys !

What a great curry house, me and my family have been going here for over 25 years. We have recently had a loss in the family and asked the jewal Balti to cater for the wake for over 150 people. Everyone complimented how good the food was and enjoyed taking some left overs home. Could not fault the staff efforts and service, highly recommended, one of our personal favourites is the murgh Lahore make sure you try that.

Superb meal last night. Delivered within 40 minutes of ordering. Lamb Jalfrezi was beautiful, melt in the mouth lamb with just the right kick of heat. Every order has been top class from Jewel.

Jewel Balti is a treasure in Newport! From the moment you step in, you're greeted by friendly staff who make you feel at home. The menu is extensive, but the standout has to be the chicken bhuna flavorful, and just the right amount of spice. The naan bread is fluffy and perfect for scooping up every last bit. The atmosphere is cozy and inviting, making it a great spot for a date night. Overall, Jewel Balti is a fantastic choice for anyone seeking a delicious, authentic meal.

Our first time here. It was amazing. The food was delicious and the staff were so welcoming. The service was second to none. The price was reasonable too. We will definitely be going back when we are in the area. Thanks to everyone.

Used for the past 10 years and can honestly say never had a bad meal, always collect or have delivered on the odd occasion food is always spot on and the staff are always welcoming 🙌🏻

Selection and quality were average to decent, different dishes were different curry bases so that's always a plus. Bit overpriced and found the menu confusing due to colour choices but overall happy and service was good.

Very nice Indian food indeed Got served non alcoholic drinks of stella by mistake at £2.90 a bottle of 330ml grrr But got advised when found it was non alcoholic that you can bring your own But food was really nice And friendly staff will definitely be back

8 of us visited The Jewel Balti on Saturday 1st April. The food for everyone was outstanding, hot and really tasty. The service and atmosphere was faultless. Actar was amazing, having a chat and making us feel really welcome. Will most definitely be visiting again very soon.x

It was okay…the menu seemed to be a bit sparse and there was no alcohol available, wasn’t aware you could bring your own as stated in other reviews. Some staff were a bit offish and the food took too long considering we were one of two tables in. Wouldn’t rush to return.

Our family went for dinner in Jewel Balti the other night, we enjoyed the atmosphere. The food was fresh and delicious, the staff were friendly. Would definitely recommend it to my friends.

After waiting about 45 mins for takeaway!! Me and my wife got home to enjoy our meals!! Jewel starter was full of uncooked meat and gristle to which my wife spat out!! My starters weren't that great anyway!! Nan breads I've eaten but the chips were probablly warmed up from day before as we got there about 5:30pm and place opened about 5:15pm!! Jalfreizy followed the chips into the bin!! Will never go here again

If you like a cold curry this is the place for you! Freezing cold. Had to re-heat! Small portions for the cost! And Tasteless!

I ordered chicken tikka Madras & chicken tikka pathia and were extremely tasty probably the best I've had for a long time, but was disappointed with the portion sizes as the container's was only half full with a lot of floating ghee on top . I don't mind but the wife had to spoon hers of her Madras .the keema rice only came in a little foil container and at £ 3.70 I expected more also onion bhajis I ordered which were tasty but no salad no mint sauce which was very disappointing but other than that the meal was very nice

Great to return to the Jewell Balti, having lived on Chepstow Road many years ago. Still run by the same people, who have made many improvements over the years, particularly following Covid, and catering predominantly for take-away customers rather than diners. But if you dine in, the space is contemporary and welcoming. The menu wide and varied; with many unique dishes. The staff friendly and attentive. At the time of writing (November 2022) there is no alcohol licence and you are welcome therefore to bring your own, which other diners seemed glad to be able to do. We had a great meal and look forward to returning. Allow £15-£20 per head for a main with sundries and a drink. Reasonable value, good environment, excellent, tasty and freshly prepares food. We look forward to returning. There is parking to be found on side streets, or a good bus service from the bus station.

Just had another lovely meal at jewel balti, since the refurbishment the food is still spot on and now they have a new grill/steak menu... Will definitely try that out next time. The new decor is warming and welcoming. The food arrived quickly considering they had many deliveries so we were very pleased.

We used to use this restaurant a lot before lockdown, we went after it re-opened after a refub, the food was nowhere near as good as it used to be but the owner has decided to make it alcohol free and that to me is not acceptable he is forcing his beliefs on customers I like many people I know wont go there now. Big mistake, provide customers with what they want is my advice.

Less than satisfactory, had a takeaway, greasy, cold, unpleasant. Feeling less than well this morning as I sit in my bathroom..

I had such a lovely time in Jewel Balti today. The food was amazinggggg. Portion size was perfect. The lamb chili lime bhuna was cooked to perfection. Highly highly recommended. I would definitely go back. 10/10

It wasn't bad, chutney tray needs some more authentic spicy chutneys. Lal toofan was pretty good and the chili rice was amazing Portion size is more than enough. Drinks were a bit limited.

Probably the worst curry experience ever. Meals arrived over an hour late. Meals were stone cold .as I believe it was cooked on time but sat around for a long time. When we started the meal the curry containers were only half full. One meal had no chicken in it all. The keema nan was , well just nan that had been shown some keema meat. The garlic nan was like a garlic crisp with no garlic. All curry's were like they had been used to mop up an oil slick. The chicken pekora was soggy and again cold .all meals had hardly any chicken in them. The starters came with no salad whatsoever. The pickle tray comprised of mint sauce, onion salad and mango chutney. No lime pickle or the like. We spoke to the restaurant about the missing meat and was told they would send out a replacement meal, that was over an hour ago and still waiting.We arranged this meal for a family gathering for our siblings after loosing our mother. What a bloody joke. Save your hard earned cash and order from mc Donald's, you will have a better meal.

Ordered food at 17:05 and was told delivery would be 18:00, had an update at on the app at 17:55 advising food had been collected by a driver and was on its way...food arrived just before 19:00 and was cold. Chips missing from the order, had to wait another 25min for them to deliver the missing chips. Food wasn't great, bland and no spice to the curry (said medium spice on menu) the nan bread was a thick very under cooked piece of dough - Really disappointing as first time ordering from Jewel Balti. They kindly didn't charge us for delivery cost due to it being so late, and they gave us extra chips (that went in the bin as didnt need 2 portions!) Will not be ordering again. Very very disappointing.

Ordered two curries from recommendations for takeaway on the 29/05/22 evening. One veg and the other non-veg. Food sickness following day. Only rated 2 stars from curries itself and haven't tried other menu items. But at same time, won't be visiting anytime soon as we don't want to get sick again.

Had a delivery tonight, hubby had a curry special I had a chicken curry but sadly it was really watery and hardly any taste I was Disappointed to say the least Hubby was happy

I have visited this restaurant for take aways before many times over 3 years and was never disappointed, until now. My meal was delivered, on plating it was like warm at best, I received a sauce instead of the starter I ordered. I phoned the restaurant and instead of a refund was offered the starter I never got "free" next time I order a meal. I don't think I will be going back.

We came here for a family meal in the build up to Christmas and we had an amazing time with brilliant service! Could not have asked for better with brilliant and friendly staff and lovely food that was brought to the table with smiles and the food was also piping hot. Would highly recommend here. As visitors to Newport, we grabbed a taxi to head into town. The driver recommended this dreadful place so unwittingly, we got dropped off and went in. We should have realised our error immediately as it was almost empty at 7.30 on a Saturday evening - where all other ones we had tried to book into were full. But, we sat down and ordered food - firstly the usual poppadoms, followed by starters. The poppadoms arrived with the oddest green sauce ever seen - almost a neon green! But we cautiously tucked in. Then the starters arrived. None of these looked particularly tempting, but one of our party had ordered samosas and these arrived still frozen in the middle! Sent back and waited until for a replacement - which arrived...and these too were frozen!! We cancelled our order for mains and decided to leave. Having looked into the filthy kitchen we realised our mistake in choosing this restaurant, which was only reinforced by its 2 out of 5 food hygiene rating that it displays outside (why oh why had we not checked this before entering) Still, there was a McDonald's up the road, so a late night trip there ended up saving a fragment of our evening...

Great food - Great service :) We where walk-ins and shown to a table the young waiter was very polite and everyone was smartly dressed. The chef knows what he is doing the lamb and chicken where tender and divine :) the sauces where full of flavour I could really taste the spices in my dish. Sag paneer was so good and the onion bhaji was the best. Thanks we had a great meal...

The Jewel is back! After a period of poor management while Ahktar was away, he is now back and the place is just like the old days. The food was superb, the Cobra lager was cracking. Ahktar is determined to revive the Jewel and return it to the top of Newport’s Curry restaurants. He has made a great start and it was great to be back.

Outstanding as always, been going jewel's for over a decade now, I don't go anywhere else for a curry. The staff make me and my family feel welcomed and the food is just delightful everytime. 100% worth the trip

16.90 for a tasteless curry :/ lamb pathia has no taste what so ever, the chicken pakora 3.20 for 1 pakora, chips are like rubber. This place used to be decent. Never again!

I have always boasted to my friends about the Jewel Balti, and the service they give. One week ago we ordered i a meal to be delivered, when it arrived one of the items was missing. Tonight we ordered a meal at 6pm, and one hour and a half later when I phoned again I was told the meal had been put up for collection. I have used The Jewel for many years, but this will be the last time.

Usual curry house was closed so thought we would try another local. Ordered at 6 o’clock and was told by e-mail it would arrive in 45 minutes. A hour and a half later and 54 unanswered phone calls we drove to the restaurant. Sort of...

We ordered takeaway last night. Had 2 currys both chicken.. let me say the Kurmu was so good as well as the Madras. But the special part was the rice perfectly cooked still fluffy. The food came hit and we could have been sitting in a top restaurant the meal was that good Well done to all the staff Thanks David

I haven't had a delicious meal like this since the Grand Tandoori closed over 20 years ago even the mrs liked it. I can't wait until I'm hungry again to finish the rest of it, highly recommended.

I was recommended to The Jewel Balti by a family member and tried it for the first time in August. We found the food to be delicious, tasty and with a real freshness about it. I had the chicken rogan, which was slices of chicken...

Not recommanded for Asian's, manager guy is so rude, hygine is unacceptable during this pandamic,no face covering worn by any waiting staff, food presantation was very basic. we desided to leave after the starters.

We have been customers for years. Yesterday evening we had a delivery meal which was otherwise very tasty but we ordered 4 spicy poppadoms which were overcooked, bordering on burned and there was a lack of chicken and plenty of potato in the chicken dish. Unusual for the Jewel which is normally excellent.

We have regularly ordered a take away from Jewel Balti over the past 12 months. The service is great, the staff are great and the food is absolutely gorgeous. We haven’t had one bad meal from them and we have tried many of the dishes....

Quick and friendly service. Curry is always delicious! Vegetable curry has a wide variety of different vegetables.

Service was amazing, food is good and extensive menu.

We ordered a takeaway on new years eve at 6.10 pm and was told the delivery time was 1hour to an hour and a half at 7.50 pm we rang to find out where our food was on were told that it was ready and waiting for a delivery driver.At approx 8.15pm we could wait no longer and got a homemade chilli out of our freezer, eventually the food turned up at 9.11pm we told the delivery driver we didnt want it as we had to resort to food from our freezer. When we got up new years day we found that the bag of food had been thrown on the road outside our garage. Eventually after numerous phone calls ( one call to their Monmouth restaurant) the food was removed from the street ( ironically the order was wrong after all that time). We have been regular customers at The Jewel since they opened in 1996 both takeaways and eat in and we are very disappointed with the service and the behaviour of the staff we are now looking for an other Indian for our food.

This is the best curry house in Newport so tasty and Fresh and the staff are superb anything you order will be of top quality either in the restaurant or having a takeaway
