Jay's Fish Bar & Grill in Nottingham

Just sat down to eat my fish and chips! The fish is RAW! Uncooked And Cold! The chips was like cardboard, the mushy pea was like water and that’s the same for the curry sauce, Please do not order from this place! I’ve tired to ring them and tell them and no one is answering! I tried to contact them over 16 times, they need reporting to trading standards! They need closing down! We could have got seriously ill if we ate that! especially my children!!! Absolutely disgusting service! I’ve sent just eat more pictures of the fish and other items.. PLEASE DO NOT ORDER FROM THIS PLACE

Absolutely brilliant fish and chips. I've been back to this place many times. I love the fish, chips, and curry. I recommend Jay's over all of the fish and chip shops around Nottingham. You must try the food to truly appreciate Jay's fish and chips. And Jay is a legend!

Got my order wrong but there foods Not to bad but there terrible at answering the phone call over 10 time no answer and didn't replace the wrong ordered items I had to get a refund though uber eat luckily won't go there agian

I wouldn't recommend or ever order from here again because poor customer service and poor food for the money I spent I ordered mix kebab and with naan bread and salad with mayo it was just little bit warm when I got it and didn't receive my naan bread tried to contact the restaurant over 10+ times no answer or response just kept ringing and then cutting off the chip was soggy or undercook and the salad was brown and did tasty nice and mayo was runny not nice and battered sausage was cold and soggy and curry sauce was like water

Do not order from here. We waited over an hour past the promised delivery for food. Called the restaurant multiple times where we were promised that it wouldn’t be long. Delivery driver turned up and refused to give the food over when we complained about the wait. Attempted to drive off with the food. Had to stand in the driveway to stop him. Driver was shouting at me. After 15 minutes of persuasion, he handed over the food, but only after calling me all sorts of names. One of our group was not even able to eat the food as it arrived too late. No refund in sight. Avoid at all costs. To add to this, when eating the food we have found a piece of metal wire in the fish.

Ordered fish, chips and peas after a long shift NYE. Lad turned up dead on the stroke of midnight. Was delicious, then it slipped from my hand and fell onto the floor. Gutted. Was still nice while I had it. Thank you.

Service was terrible. Random people standing around in the kitchen area around the food. The fish cake was shockingly bad!!! However the chips and Kebab was decent.

Awful. Bun was rock solid . Clearly been microwaved from frozen. The gravy was basically water. Have a bit of pride in your food chefs. Genuinely the worst takeaway I've ever ordered. Get gud

Ordered on Uber eats and food never arrived. They deliver themselves and the rider had no clue where to go.

The food is OK but the rude, incompetent staff poor customer service and ongoing problems with Just Eat delivery drivers is what will bring this business down. I have had the following problems. Rude staff Late deliveries Missing items from orders Orders being delivered to wrong place by just eat drivers and it being blamed on me. Orders being made on Just Eat only to be told I have to come and collect, I obviously cancelled the order for a refund. I have given this restaurant so many chances but they don't seem to understand the competition out there and that they are going about business totally the wrong way and they will loose customers I will not be using them again when I can spend my money elsewhere.

Avoid at all costs. 45 minutes delivery (after leaving"restaurant") when they are a 5 minutes drive away. I called them and was told the driver left 15 minutes ago, they then called me back 20 minutes later as the driver was lost and I had to help direct him to my house. The driver apologised and told me he had been driving around. I probed the high risk food and called them straight away as it was too cold to eat and got excuse after excuse.. the driver didn't get lost, I couldn't have spoken to the driver as he doesn't speak English, the food was delivered within 5 minutes (by the same guy who told me the driver had left 15 minutes ago and then called me to help direct the driver to my house), I am lying (even though I offered to send photos of the food being probed), I am trying to steal food (even though I offered to return the food untouched)... Just do yourself a favour and avoid the place

We have no complaints from this fish bar the food & staff have always been up to a good standard. I would like to add that the older reviews are worthless & not relevant at all since the shop has been renovated & taken over by new management so the reviews from 3+ years ago are unfair to the new owners & doesn't put their food in a good light. There are also reviews that were left where the orders were fulfilled using delivery companies so if the food arrived cold, squashed or arrived late it's down to them & not the fish bar. IMO those reviews should be removed as they're not relevant to the current owners & the food that is being served now. . .

If could I would give them stars in minus, order with them saying it will be 45 min, try to ring them after 50 minutes no answer to the phone, tried couple more times to ring for about 40 min to see if is still coming or get my refund, impossible to get in contact with them. I would not recommend them

Just stopped by today for some small chips on the way home, I got home and they were covered in cheese. Not worth going back for but was a little disappointing as I’m allergic and so it felt a shame to throw them out, very careless of them

Truly dreadful food. £22 for three kebabs. It took one and a half hours to deliver less than 1.5 miles. Two of the kebabs were wrong and all three were barely lukewarm. The meat was soggy and pretty tasteless like it had been boiled to death. I made one call to ascertain how long I was going to have to wait. I'd have called to complain about the incorrect order but the phone had been put onto answer phone. Nine attempts later I decided to write a review instead. On a brighter note the chips were nice. Although I'd recommend you pick them up in person to avoid the wait.

Super friendly staff and their fish and chips is so crunchyy and yummyy , fully satisfied my cravings. The large portion is good for 3 people, perhaps two if one has a bigger appetite. Excited to crave fish n chips again to come back!

Curry sauce and gravy is never warm as its microwaved for about 4 seconds,ordered delivery tonight and it came wrong..they resent and was even more wrong than the first time..was then told cant have a refund as apparently they didnt sell us the food it was another company....useless...place went to pot since the owner left

Ordered chips and curry sauce through Uber Eats. Never in my life have I had to stop eating a chips after trying 3 of them because they were disgusting! How can you make them so wrong Curry sauce was really lumpy so unappetising to look at Chips were pure mush and cold. Not properly cooked at all. Want to get my money back ASAP.

A colleague and I had an itch for some fish and chips that a sandwich couldn't scratch. Today at lunchtime, we decided to take a walk down to Jay's Fish Bar & Grill. 5 star reviews, my colleague mentioned, how could we argue with real life reviews?! Having found the establishment we entered to be greeted by a member of staff, who promptly asked what we would like. Small fish and chips for me please, I remarked. To which I was told it would be a few minutes unless I would like to take the large fish that was sat limp, under the heater lamp. No thank you, small is enough for me! (Hoping that a freshly fried piece would be crisp and tender) Unfortunately not, but the urge to eat was growing and our lunchtime was dwindling, so I quickly paid and had an old £5 note thrust into my hand. Bearing in mind today is the last day before this note is no longer legal tender I asked for a new note. To which the staff said they were unable to open the till without a transaction.. 1 can of Dr Pepper then please! Ha I beat the system... It's fish and chips time! As we walked down Alfreton Road, we started to eat our chips, a small portion is definitely a small portion, but they weren't the worst I'd tasted. I looked down at the fish, I could have sworn it was swimming in the amount of oil that was permeating from it, not to be discouraged I took a bite. Worst idea ever! My mouth was filled with oil and the taste of cardboard.. My colleague begun to laugh, he thought I was overacting. Then he took a bite of his fish and grimaced immediately... We decided to take advantage of the the nearest bin. Neither of us could swallow that and we had gone too far to return and complain. Forward and onward to KFC! If I could leave 0 stars I would. Avoid at all costs

First time going and the food was lovely and delivered very fast will Deffo order from them again
