Lovely cafe where we had a delightful and delicious breakfast. I had the vegetarian breakfast, which includes a homemade vegetarian 'patty' - it was a bit like a slice of nut roast, but it was delicious, and a pleasant change from vegetarian sausages. Plenty of beautifully cooked mushrooms, perfectly cooked tomatoes and eggs, yummy fried bread - crispy, not greasy - and beans; a hit all round. Husband had the large breakfast, which had beans, mushrooms, fried bread and eggs, plus bacon - local, lean and tasty - sausages - meaty and perfectly cooked - plus what, for him, is the highlight of any cooked breakfast - black pudding! Clean plates and happy eaters! Everything was freshly and beautifully cooked. We washed our breakfasts down with tea (me) and coffee (him) - also very good. I wished I'd had room for a slice of homemade cake, as the list looked delicious and inviting - will have to go back some time! Was good to chat with some of the locals who were there too! And then of course, for me, there is the added attraction of the wool shop! An extensive and fabulous selection of yarns, with friendly, helpful, knowledgeable staff. A real delight of a place.

We had a wonderful lunch at this Cafe which is accessed through the wool shop. It was clean and nicely laid out and there was a lovely garden at the back where you can sit. We had baguettes for lunch which were filling and absolutely delicious and served with a side of home-made chutney and coleslaw. The ham was home-cooked and the chutney was so good that we bought a jar. This cafe is a little off the beaten track but I can’t fault the food or service and would highly recommend it.

I visited today in search of wool for a new knitting project. The two ladies who run the shop are so helpful and friendly, I wanted some advice about my knitting pattern and they were happy to spend time with me exploring the options. They really know their stuff! The range of yarn is impressive, its stuffed to the rafters!I then enjoyed a pot of tea in the adjoining cafe. Perfect for crafters, locals and holiday makers alike.

My mum and I visited Jane's on a day trip to Fishguard. We both opted for the mackerel pate which was made with freshly caught mackerel and served with toast, a generous salad and a homemade chutney trio. All absolutely delicious and perfectly seasoned. The chef (Jane herself?) was chatty and friendly. Highly recommended for coffee and cake, or lunch. A delightful garden at the rear would definitely have been used had the weather been better.

We went into Janes to get food and coffee but thought we’d quickly look at the wool beforehand. The lady behind the desk assisted me with finding a pattern/yarn of a sweater that was on display. I decided to buy the pattern first before eating and then possibly go back for yarn after (I only had a limited amount of cash and didn’t want them to sell out of the pattern while I was eating). I went to the till and the cashier refused to sell me the pattern on its own as ‘selling me the pattern (which appeared to be for sale?) would cause them to lose money....?, that they’re a wool shop and I can ‘go and buy the pattern elsewhere’ if that’s all I wanted. The implication was I also had to buy the yarn to go with the pattern or I couldn’t have the pattern at all. She was very abrupt and verging on rude and left me feeling really uncomfortable, like I had tried to diddle them out of money or something by only buying the pattern. We left quickly without buying anything or eating. They’ve lost my custom & I won’t be back which is a shame as it’s my local wool shop. Really weird way to do business.

Janes is located in a very colourful building on the High Street in Fishguard. The 'pavements' on the High Street are very narrow when approaching from the town centre so take care! The café shares the building with a wool shop. With two knitting nuts in our party it seemed the obvious place to stop for lunch. There is a small dining room at the front, another at the back and an attractive garden behind, which looks great for nice weather.

I never dissapointed when I go to Janes. Their attention to detail is fantastic. I had the smoked makeral pate, it was very tasty, the fish is caught locally and smoked by Janes themselves, it comes with thin slices of toasted seeded bread, butter salad and two very tasty chutneys. The salad dressing is served separatly. My husband had lasange and said it was one of the best he had had! He has to be careful as I cook lasange at home. But joking apart he said there was lots of meat. The coffee is lovely too and they do green teas. If you are interested in craft take a look around the shop too.

Stopped here in July for a welshcake and coffee whilst staying nearby. The food and service were ok, but nothing special. I browsed the small collection of walking and tourism booklets noticing that one of the twin sisters was watching me, but thought nothing of it, then left. Had only gone a few yards when she came running after me saying she couldn't find the booklet about walks in the area that I had been looking at i.e. implying that I had stolen it. Feeling extremely upset, I went back to the cafe and pointed it out to her. I had to demand an apology before she would say sorry. Obviously I didn't go there again! They certainly need to improve their customer service skills if they want to attract tourists, but maybe their aim is to keep it a local shop for local people.

I really wanted to like Jane's because I like the idea of a knitting cafe. However, I was very disappointed with my lunch. I ordered a toasted sandwich and while I waited for it, I could hear the sound of a knife scraping off burnt bits from toast. It came out and sure enough when I turned it over, there were big black bits on it. There is no way it should have been served to me like that. It tasted greasy too, as if the bread had been dipped in oil and fried. It was burnt black and generally not edible. As I was in a hurry I ate some of filling without the bread. The girl seemed surprised that I would complain about it and said she didn't think it was burnt when she served it, just a bit crispy! I nearly fell over in shock, particularly as I could hear her scraping the burnt bits off trying to salvage it before serving it to me. To be fair, they did not charge me for the toastie but it was not a good experience and I'm not sure I'd go back. The Welsh tea was good though and the cafe itself is really well kept, very clean and fresh. I think it would be a good spot for tea and cake but avoid the toasties!
