James' at the Putting Green in Highland

Love the ice cream but todays service was just bizarre. There was a mix up with my order, then I was given a cone right ice cream wrong type of cone, I asked for the correct cone and watched the server scrape the ice cream from one cone to the correct one then I was passed the correct cone with half a scoop of ice cream. I highlighted this and was told by the owner “well is just give you a refund” now I am not sure if you have kids but the whole reason of our visit was to reward my two for a fantastic parents and a half scoop would have been a bit of an insult. I requested a different flavour which took another 5 minutes, when the owner hand it over he was obviously not pleased. He gave me a look as if to say you got what you want now go away. I asked if I didn’t justify an apology and was told no as he had already offered me a refund. As stated a refund was no use. I thought this level of service was long since finished, The arrogant proprietor who thinks if people’s aren’t happy then don’t come back. Maybe get some empathy, it goes a long way.

This place is amazing! Homemade ice cream & homemade cakes! Hubby says coffees are great too! The blankets on the outdoor seating is just a lovely addition! The bubble waffles also homemade & are delicious

It’s a great idea to have this place on the Putting Green !Nice ice cream but £5.90 for a decaffeinated Chai Latte seems a bit steep to me .

This place does the most amazing ice cream. So many choices and options. Waffle cones, tubs and more. They also offer other items, but I adore the ice cream.

Thank goodness for the 5 mini scoop tasting basket, essential when there are so many flavours to choose from. Amazing ice-cream in a lovely setting.

We have been coming here for ice cream, waffles and coffee over a number of years and sad to rate the ice creams we had yesterday as poor given past experiences. They tasted bland, a granddaughter’s vanilla was stodgy and over sweet with a suspicion quality may have been sacrificed to cost. Perhaps whoever made the ice cream is still learning but still rankles to pay out money for something we all put in the bin without finishing.

Well renowned in the area as serving the best icecream with a fantastic range of exciting flavours. All homemade and well worth queuing for. Coffees are also excellent and better than you'd expect from a little beach hut cafè. Friendly service and a stunning location right by the front. What's not to love?

Thought,I'd try two flavours of ice-cream,when here. I had the Bounty & Biscoff flavours. The Bounty one,was lovely,but was disappointed,with the Biscoff. It seemed to have a lemon base & only a few,very small pieces of Biscoff in it. Maybe,the wrong favouring was used & was a mistake? Thought at first,I had been given the wrong one.Would have gone back to question it, but we were,having to carry on driving. I have had this elsewhere & it's been caramel based,which is more to my taste. On saying that,lovely staff & place, would choose to visit again,to sample something from their extensive & tasty menu. Ideal setting,on a sunny day.

We were staying at a local lovely hotel but wanted something different for breakfast - we were not disappointed. Great coffee, my teenagers were in awe of the waffle menu, once they had chosen, they were not disappointed. We had an almond croissant- delicious and a mozzarella ciabatta - both delicious. Don’t walk past this!

Great coffee, pastries right by the beach. Kind, polite service. Came here every day during our stay. Highly recommend!

We’ve heard so much about this place that maybe my expectations were too high. The ice cream was nice, my friends cake would have been lovely a day or 2 before, the coffee was not to my taste and the layout can be confusing, I know they need to close at some point but it was a shame seeing kids run up to the queue excitedly to get ice cream only to be told no more orders, i would go again if I was visiting and there wasn’t a queue, but I think it’s worth the trek to the harbour for the coffee and fresh cake.

I love this place. The best cakes, coffee - lots of choice - waffles and ice cream... Buddha bowls last summer made my daughter's day. Lovely people who care about the environment and use good ingredients and are cheery with their customers. Cant' say too much good about them!.

James cafe is the best place in nairn, the best bit is it’s at the end of my street. Ice cream is the best ! Staff are lovely.

Out walking doggies had to stop here as had a waffle before but wanted to sample it again with a coffee, both delicious and I’ve not tasted a better waffle with ice cream to date! Friendly service and good coffee on a cold afternoon walk.

Have came to James a lot and I am never disappointed. The amount different flavours is amazing. I’ve recently had a bubble waffle and it was brilliant. Can’t fault the place

Love this little place by nairn beach. Lovely coffee, hot choc, tea, homemade cakes some gluten free. Lovely ice cream and of course bubble waffles which are just delicious with your own choice of toppings. Chairs and tables with blankets on cold but sunny days.

Gooseberry and Pernod ice cream....come on! You’ve gotta eat here!! We also had sublime coconut ice cream, excellent pear and blueberry cake and really good coffee. This is a kiosk essentially but churns out super tasty artisan ice cream. I’d happily pay more but don’t tell the owner ; ) easily on a par with the best ice cream shops in the region plus does great cakes, coffee and I think also does some hot food as I could smell nice things in the air. Don’t be out of by the fact that it’s a kiosk, it’s got better food than some of the other restaurants in the town. IMHO obviously. There are a few chairs and tables for the customers and plenty of folk around even though the weather was not the best. All disposable items compostable. Good for them.

Popped down on a lovely day after a walk on the beach. Usual high standard of coffee. Good to see reusable cups for folks that drink there. Best coffee in Nairn.

Excellent little place by Nairn beach. The ice cream flavours are delicious and the bubble waffles are amazing. Very generous portions at a great price. Really friendly staff. We need them to open branches in West Yorkshire as we will miss these treats. 👍

Came here around 1630 on a beautiful sunny Sunday, on the recommendation of a colleague who rates it highly for the ice cream. There was a queue of about 8-10 people in front of me. I thought I'll take a peek at the flavours as it can take me a while to decide so can do that while standing in the queue. When I turned back round, there was a young guy from the place that informed me that "he is the end of the queue for the day". I said, I was just in the queue 30s ago, before you came, and just stepped forward to look at the flavours. He just told me, again, that they were taking no more ice cream orders for the day. I could see that even the people ahead of me in the queue were a little shocked. So I left, vowing never to come back or recommend this to anyone. Shame on them, as I actually live here and could have been a regular. There are plenty more places to get ice cream in the highlands - try Miele's in Inverness, they're at least nicer.

No doubt the best ice cream I've had for a long time! We looked for ages in Nairn trying to find somewhere that sold icecream and lo and behold we found Jame's at the Putting Green. Try it, you will not be disappointed.

Wonderful icecream. Great range of interesting flavours as well as the old favourites. Great coffee too. Definitely worth a visit if you are in Nairn.

If you are in Nairn you need to try the ice cream - it the best for miles around. Its also an excellent location to sit and watch the world go by with a good view of the Moray Firth.

Wow so many different flavours to choose from! Waffles too with cream and fresh fruit. Coffee, Tea & Hot Chocolate for starters plus cakes........

I normally rate this little cafe highly but was disappointed today. Had rum and raisin and Baileys ice cream, flavourless and too soft, lacked any real substance. My children enjoyed their waffles however. I ordered a decaf coffee - awful, probably the worst I've tasted. Couldn't drink it.

You don’t have to be a little kid to enjoy an ice cream. We four adults indulged in a special treat today! A little outdoor location in a lovely park, with tables and chairs provided, as well as rugs on a chilly day - which it was today. The choice of flavours and cones were amazing, and the serves were deliciously generous. So many others were of like mind, so it was a busy little place on a breezy afternoon. Simply yummy!

After a gentle wander along the beach, the walk back to the central carpark was made all the better for the amazing ice-cream. Loads of choice, after much deliberation, I opted for a scoop of chocolate and a scoop of coconut - oh my!!

Visited for the first time today. C 11ertainly won't be the last! Huge choice of flavours and they were stunning. Highly recommend the raspberry and St Clements sorbets x

I visited today with my grandma (her first time being) and ordered two bubble waffles. The gentleman helped her decide what to get and explained we can wait outside or inside if we were too cold. My grandma wanted to sit outside with the blankets and 2 minutes later, the gentleman comes out with 2 hot water bottles for us! Our waffles came shortly after and were brilliant. Flavourful, light and fluffy. It's the little touches that make such a difference and we both agreed next time we have a day free, we will be coming back through just to visit here.

I would definately like to recommend this place. Staff were nice and friendly and the bubble waffles that we got just simply amazing and still hot. We got 2 scoops of ice cream on each but the scoops are so big next time all I need is one. Once order was placed we waiting around 10/15 minutes for our order but its definitely worth the wait

This is the only place I know of that makes its own ice cream on the premises and believe me you can taste the difference

As if the views across the Moray Firth are not enough James’s location ensures a great view over the putting green too. Al fresco coffee, crepes, waffles or ice cream are available as are blankets in case of the cold. A quirky, most enjoyable experience in a beautiful setting. Oh yes, I almost forgot, the coffee and food on offer are all of the highest quality. Full marks James. Long may the sun continue to shine on your enterprise.

Even though temperatures were freezing, we had to stop off for a homemade ice cream. I had malteser flavour - simply devine. Only critism, young girl out cleaning tables then served us our ice cream without washing her hands.

That goes for the welcome, the coffees, the food, the location and the fact that it’s all in a sheltered corner of the great outdoors - seating, tables and plenty of warm rugs are provided and somehow being outside tends to make for a most convivial coffee ( or whatever is your pleasure). I’ve found it to be a naturally sociable place and I can’t pass it by. Back tracking to the drinks - you’ll find a wide variety of teas, herbal drinks and quality cold drinks, and the coffees! Try the turmeric latte - do! Home baked cakes - I can recommend an almond croissant to partner your turmeric latte, or pear and blueberry cake… or maybe a local ice cream, so many varieties to choose from. This place is a great idea, almost worth moving to Nairn for!

This is a great place to enjoy whilst out for a walk, nice coffee and fantastic artisan ice cream which I believe the gentleman makes himself. Lots of flavours to choose from.

James cafe is a popular outside meeting place. My coffee was fine. My ice cream was great. Too many flavours to chose from, I will have to try more when the weather warms up. The cafe was closed before Christmas for changes to be made of layout. Again I will check these out when the sun shines

After a cold wander along the beach with the family this was a perfect little find. We enjoyed delicious hot chocs all round. The waffles looked amazing but we had just had lunch not long before we had stumbled across this little place. Definitely pop in again on our next visit to Nairn and try there bubble waffles and ice cream.

En oktoberdag besøkte vi Nairn beach. Vi fikk øye på et skilt som viste oss veien til et lite utsalg for kaffe, is og vafler. Og, for noen vafler, store, varme vafler fylt med sjokolade og is. Det tok litt tid, men det var verd ventinga.

Went here after reading the reviews on here,there is lots of choice of artisan ice cream and tasted amazing will definitely go here when in the area again

Lovely in every way! Friendly staff (even when very hard pressed during this hot summer) a delicious choice of home-made ice creams, fresh waffles made on the spot. Lovely cakes from (I think) Gateau Regale, the best baker I have tasted since I left Brussels. Gluten free and Vegan goodies. Good coffee, wonderful view, happy dogs and their walkers to watch, happy children playing on the putting green. My most favourite daily treat.

This hidden gem was discovered & we were taken by family one morning for bubble waffles. You choose your flavour of ice cream (there’s a big selection of yummy ice cream - my daughter had toffee crisp) then add strawberries, bananas, Nutella -it’s up to you then top off with sauce. If your feeling hungry & looking for something sweet, this place is an absolute must. They do also sell coffees, tea etc as well as cakes.

Wow wow wow waffle and ice cream and sauce as whipped cream. Amazing definitely recommend this nice tea and coffee as well. Went to leisure centre hired the golf clubs £4.50 for me and my son had a putting contest then all four off us had ice creams amazing

Stopped by on a hot summer's day for ice cream - the queue was out the door! That was a good sign. Decided to have coffee and cake as that was quicker and it was delicious. Managed to get a table outside and enjoyed the sunshine. Glad to see this little cafe doing so well.

Stopped off for an ice cream - omg, absolutely delicious homemade ice cream. Have never tasted Turkish Delight ice cream like that!!! Simple divine.

Stopped here for Coffee and cake. Really quaint and quirky little caffe, we decorated and great service. Prompt service with a smile and great tasting cakes too. Located next to the Children's splash pool, this place is busy! busy! busy! Has a bit of a captive market, but does not play upon this. Great food, coffee and service and smiles all the way too.

I was here today with my son and without doubt Mr James knows his stuff. Place was mobbed but the service was swift and efficient and the offerings were amazing. Fresh waffles made to order and ice cream of the highest quality. Well done to you sir

Always love visiting James’ at the Putting Green. Always greeted with a warm welcome and a smile! Great selection of homemade ice creams, tray bakes and now waffles and there is brilliant hot chocolate. And on cold days blankets to keep warm outside.

decided to try instead of links cafe which we usually og to when holidaying up in nairn. It was over priced, bland watery ice cream. never again.

Stopped here for ice cream based on previous reviews. The selection wasn't the biggest I've seen, but was very respectable for the size of the place - I'm still impressed that they managed to fit a functioning cafe and ice cream parlour into such a small building. Service was quick and helpful, and the ice creams were excellent. I've only been to one other place in the country that can equal the quality.

We have been regular visitors here since it first opened. Initially enjoying the coffee and cakes. Now our treat with the Grandbairns is to try James's amazing variety of icecream and sorbet.

Didn't have any food at this cafe and only stopped to have a couple of ice-creams. The choice was endless and our choices were delicious 😋 can highly recommend.

Let's see... we went for some cappuccinos and lattes and ended up getting two of each + strawberries & cream WAFFLES + an incredible (vegan) Oreo ice cream! This place was a dream and I only wish I could visit James' every day for my morning coffee!

after many unsuccessful attempts (it closes bang on 7pm each night) I managed to treat myself to one of the ice cream selections. The ice cream was very good and worth the visit

A tiny hut on the Links (Nairn west), near the putting green and swimming pool. James has created a great wee business, by doing things extremely well - coffees, traybake, teas, patisserie and best of all, his artisanal ice cream. C knee blankets supplied, dogs welcome (waterfowls provided)

We come to Nairn each year and this place opening was a welcomed surprise

Oh my goodness the best place around for puddings as a vegan. Plenty of choices for ice cream including the new delicious Salted Caramel. Also sometimes vegan cupcakes. Soya milk available for a lovely latte etc too. Friendly service. James and co. are doing brilliantly! :)

After a walk with Charlie the dog we stopped for a coffee and sat outside where they had tartan blankets to keep you warm a nice touch and good coffee

Great location with a nice selection of hot drinks, cakes and homemade ice-cream. Seating outside is made even cosier with blankets and hot water bottle available to warm you up.

Best ice cream outside of Italy! Excellent coffee and delicious almond croissants. Very friendly staff and the seating outside (with lap rugs for those cold days) means you can enjoy a beautiful view of the sea.

Have been many times and have always had the best service with excellent quality coffee, cakes and ice creams! Seating outside with blankets and hot water bottles if cooler. Ideal for dog walkers with water put out for the pooches. Also excellent for families whose children are playing crazy golf or at the little park. Just excellent all round!

A wonderful ice cream and coffee shop, blankets provided with all seats to keep cosy in the cooler weather which we were very grateful for, excellent coffee, cakes and ice cream, and fantastic views.

Went on Sunday as have only heard about this place. The ice cream flavours we all had were lovely. But the portion size was small. One scoop is £1.80. We had a one scoop the next day in Cromarty at £2.50 and it was at least twice as big. My son also got a very long blonde hair in his cone. I saw the end of it as it arrived in his hand and pulled and pulled to get it out. He wasn't bothered so I didn't make a fuss.

This eatery used to be the putting green store and as such is located beside the putting green. There is limited indoor seating but if not raining I'm sure you would rather sit outside. This is grat for a coffee and lite bite. But the ice-cream is to die for.

Hot Drink and Cake venue. Very friendly staff with excellent service. Drinks are organic and fairtrade. Order any hot drink it will be done to your taste - excellent. Recommend the Pear and Blueberry Cake made locally. Ice cream in the summer made on the premises amazing range of flavours, something different everytime you visit. Try the Prosecco Ice Cream or Raspberry Ripple excellent. The queue is testament to how popular this place is - HIGHLY Recommend it.

Friendly owner, superb ice cream, - a welcoming place where we (tourists) met locals, discussed the world from far to near, and relaxed completely. Like meeting new and old friends in a comfortable spot with great views in a park. Coffee, ice cream, and conversation - everything a visitor seeks...with the deft hand and thoughts of an ice cream artist. BRAVO!

Great use of what was a derelict hut , now James makes it a welcoming asset to Naiirn. Coffee very good and the cakes very good . Even the gluten free ones. Kids love his hot chocolate

A great selection of flavours including vegan friendly sorbets. The mango and kiwi sorbets were DIVINE, so fresh, creamy and flavoursome. Massive portions and lovely chocolate cones.

Wonderful friendly service with superb hot drinks and home bakes to match . Slightly revamped since my last visit to suit the great selection of ice creams now . Delightful setting and it's a must to visit whilst in Nairn . Get yourself along .
