Jamaica Street in Ipswich

Lovely soul food from the island! Generous portions, great menu, and the food arrived freshly made and still hot, I did not even need to warm it up. The quality was the usual, that is, fantastic. An absolute star of a takeaway!

Ive had jamican street before and there food is spot on everytime but i have ordered today at half 4 and nearly 3 hours later im still waiting for my delivery i have rung yp and they where nice enough to gove me some free extras the food is amazing but the delivery times are a long wait unfortunately

Over 3 hours I have been waiting for my food, every time I’ve called to ask the man on the was so rude, no customer service skills at all. Fuming is not the word to be honest should be ashamed to call yourself a business DONT EVEN ENTERTAIN THIS PLACE

mostbof my order was fine but I ordered mac n cheese it was burnt and dry I called the restaurant as it cost 7.50 to get told to leave a pic on there fb page witch I did and to be refunded by just eat needless to say my refund never came I will not be using them again and I suggest you all avoid the mac n cheese

A friend and I went for dinner last night. We didn't know what to choose and wanted to try several things. They weren't too busy, so the lovely lassie behind the bar had a think and created a custom meal for us both. The room had a lovely atmosphere with a group of friends speaking familiarly, and the barmaid joined us in conversation briefly and advised us on drinks and food. Towards the end of the evening the chef came from the kitchen to join conversation and bid farewell to the other group when they left. The food was excellent, and didnt take long. We had a mix of meats, spices and flavours, and this was perfect for us. All in all, our mountains of food and five double rum punches came to £28 each, which felt very reasonable. Especially considering the meal was custom created for us. Both staff were very friendly and the food was great. I will be returning when I am next in Ipswich. Thank you very much.

Nothing like true Caribbean dishes. Mediocre at best. And in no way justifies the extra half hour wait on top of the time I was told my food would be ready. The place is dead. Nobody inside. And I can see why. They didn't even have basic staples and swapped out my drinks for ones i didnt order, because they rather give the ones you order to others. You can literally overhear them prioritising people who call later than you so those people get what you ordered, because they're regulars. You can cook better quality food than this at home with a few ingredients from sainsbury. Something I usually do but was in a rush today and if I'd have known there'd be an extra 30mins on the wait and they'd swap out my stuff to give to others then that's exactly what I'd have done again. Not happy with this spot. Last time I'll be going here. Bad service. Terrible atmosphere. Mediocre food. Need I say more.

Not had Jamaica street for months so was looking forward to eat! I understand they have a business to run but think they need to stop taking orders if they are going to many to handle! We waited over 2 and half hours for food but was told hour…just eat tell me to call restaurant to request a refund and then the restaurant tells me to contact his eat! Food came really disappointing….my curry goat was just bone….so not only was the order 2 half hours late and when arrived it was a waste of money!!

The curry goat was absolutely delicious the rice and peas were cooked perfectly and the coleslaw was tasty by far my favourite place to order from.

This is the first Caribbean restaurant I’ve ordered from since moving from London. Food was really good and tasty. Not enough heat for us personally, but still really delicious. Service spot on

The food was amazing! I was slightly worried as it is Friday night BUT the food was piping hot on time and so tasty. Portion sizes are big too I ordered a few small box meals and they had so much in them. Very happy thank you guys so much for the tasty hot food.

First time ordering a takeaway, absolutely bloody gorgeous! Dumplins were just out of this world good, plantain was beautiful wish I ordered two portions to be honest. Would love to try your jerk chicken but not a fan of very hot food, but I'll be back for sure! My new favourite takeaway 💙💙

I'm an Ipswich boy who now lives abroad and I've had Jamaica Street on my radar for a trip back for quite a few years now. I was worried that I'd built up expectations too much, but I can honestly say my first order from the restaurant was the best meal I've eaten in my old home town! I dropped in to order a big box meal (£15, worth the extra fiver for another main and side) and went with curried goat, jerk chicken, rice and peas, Mac and cheese, and fried plantain. If you're picking up, allow a bit of time because they're cooking to order. The place itself is a bit messy and could do with a tidy up, but that hardly matters when it comes to the food. The goat was soft and tender and just dripping off the bone, and the chicken was heavily marinated and had a good bit of bbq char. Bit of heat to both but not enough to burn anyone's mouth off. The rice and peas and mac and cheese were hearty and warming accompaniments. The smoky sweetness of the plantain compliments the mains well. It isn't fancy, but I'd rather eat this than dine in some poncy high end restaurant any day of the week! Comfort food at it's finest, tastes like it has been cooked with love. The portions are also very generous. I can't recommend the food enough, Jamaica Street will be my first port of call next time I'm back in town!

food was 15 minutes past the absolute latest we were told it would arrive, this is after ordering it over 1.5 hours previously anyway! food was nearly 30 quid and there must have been about 3 quids worth of ingredients in it. about one mouthful of goat in the curried goat with huge chunks of veg and sides to make up for the lack of substance, same applies to the stewed fish. most disapointing takeaway in memory. that being said the flavour was very nice, just sloppily put together, overcooked dry dumplings as well. waste of money

Not ordered in a while, flavours have changed. Found food to be heavy on the salt especially the dumplings and the salt fish fritters over powering with the spice. Good portion sizes though.

Delivery on time, took an hour. Food was delicious, got a small boneless fried chicken and my grandad got a large curry goat. The small was a good enough size and the large was almost enough for two! Very generous portion sizes. The curry goat was superb, the meat just fell off the bone and next time I order, I will be getting this too - full of flavour.

I called before we arrived. Basically they had sold out of rice and peas but this lovely young man made us a vox of delicious carribean food. The welcome we received in the shop and the hearty food was so beautiful. It was like popping into a good friends home and sharing a meal. The curried lamb/ got was authentic and so succulent. Flavours were good. He gave us additionally plantain and steamed vegetables. The side portion of her seasoning was gorgeous and the dumpling. Rice and peas cooked to perfection and everything was hot. The atmosphere was great. Definitely going again. If you like carribean food you definitely will love this one. We nearly went back for breakfast . Prices reasonable too. THANKYOU .

food is amazing! kinda fuming though paid £12 for an XL mac and cheese, came in a small cylinder container half full.. other than that everything was perfect

Ordered food at 5.25 food didn’t arrive until 8.15! I appreciate restaurants are busy but to be small orders of 2 small meals and taking that long is just ridiculous! Was told at 7 it would be 30 minutes and it was still over an hour before we received the food

Proper authentic Jamaican food. I eat there weekly, great goat curry, the plantain and dumplings are to die for when dipped in the extra side of curry. They also actually bbq and smoke their jerk chicken, even in the middle of winter 🫶 Come hungry and leave happy with a full belly. Might have to wait a little to get the food, so do order by phone before coming, if you know what you want. That being said, it is what it is, its great slow food.

Absolutely fantastic island food! So flavourful and tasty. Very generous portions, and one of the most authentic I've tried this side of the pond. The ackee and saltfish is absolutely divine, and so is the curry goat. Gotta love their dumplings and festivals too. Quite a few vegan options too, especially amongst side dishes (which often come in very sizeable portions). Really friendly and kind staff (it's basically family-run), such lovely and welcoming people. This place became an instant favourite of mine, I literally feel home whenever I eat there.

Have only had take out but it’s a gem. Absolutely delicious, arrived fresh and hot. Recently moved to Ipswich from London and had really missed our local Jamaican cafe so it’s a great find for us!

Really great island taste, the food is mind-blowing, both in quality and quantity. So heartwarming and genuine (confirmed by my Jamaican friend whom I shared the order with). Great choice of mains and sides, and very reasonably priced too.

Have been waiting to try Jamaica Street and at last ordered, we had Curry Goat and Jerk chicken with Rice and Peas, cannot thank them enough, the meals were fabulous and wrapping the containers was a brilliant idea as the meals were lovely and Hot, would thoroughly recommend, many thanks Guys will definitely be back soon to reorder.

Hands down the best take away I have ordered from in Ipswich. The food is always hot, fresh and delicious. If you love spicy comfort food, you can't go wrong in my opinion.

I have been in Ipswich working this week and needed some food with flavour to take back to my hotel room. There wasn’t much within walking distance of my hotel but thank goodness Jamaica street was. I ordered a medium chicken curry with rice and peas. It was beautifully seasoned !!! I am of Jamaican heritage and can not compliment the chef enough. The young woman who served me was also the creator of the food. She was so friendly and also pointed me in the direction of a supermarket I could drive to and find parking. My only small observation is the opening times shown on line are not accurate so maybe get these corrected. I highly recommend Jamaica Street. You will not be disappointed !

Not the first time visiting this gem of a spot. Food as always been spot on, curried goat is my actual favourite meal of all time after trying it for the first time here! Would recommend the green banana too! And as for the service, well the girl that has been there on the occasions I have visited has been nothing but accommodating and so professional.

If you like food from the Caribbean, then this is the place in Ipswich to go. Been a few times and the food is always fresh, spicy and great size portions. Good selection of drinks and the girl serving is so attentive to a customers needs. Will return on regular basis.

Highly disappointed £8 for a tiny pot of Mac and cheese £5 for chips that’s were soggy and £25 for stew without any rice biggest rip of I have ever heard off

The jerk fries (fries with chicken) , rice and peas, jerk chicken , dumplings and curried goat were all AMAZING!! Café carribean in Spitalfields market has been my favourite but Jamaica Street just beat them in my book....sooooo good. Sarah is so lovely and helpful too, amazing service.

Coming from East London I love trying new food and have a love for Jamaician food. This was my first time ordering for Jamaica Street. I have Curry goat, Brown stew chicken, rice and peas, Mac and cheese, dumplings and plantain, all the food was great but the plaintain was a bit hard for my liking. My partner said it was the best dumpling she has tried. I would advise you to ring in advance to order your food, as the wait time was long. Will be visiting again.

Got a takeaway after a long drive from Cumbria and it was worth the drive. The jerk fries were unbelievable a little sweet, juicy and a nice bit of spice. The brown steed chicken was all I wanted it to be and then those festivals…….they are something else. Definitely worth a visit!

Portions used to be much much bigger, £8 for the mac&cheese given the current portion size is ridiculous, other than that the food tastes good as always.

Great food, great service and good prices. Had the £11.50 box meal with brown stew chicken, rice and peas and dumplings and it was a HEFTY serving size, could even split into two meals. Only issue was I couldn’t get online ordering to work on Instagram or UberEats, seems as tho the Insta account has a limit on who can message? Either way I phoned up to place the order with no problems whatsoever. Highly recommend!

Called is company on Monday in June, after 5 pm. I was informed they do not have a delivery driver on Monday. So I called the company again today on Thursday, to be informed they do not do delivery during the weekdays until after 5pm. They open at 12 midday, but only have a driver after 5 pm. However, on a Saturday they diver from midday. Continuity of service delivery is essential in a modern competitive market, such as the UK food industry. I’ll try them again in 48 mins, can’t wIt to try their food.

That oxtail was incredible.. Lush gravy and meat falls off the bone. Some meat you get are dried this one was still moist. The customer service the waitress was just so warming and welcoming.. Made me and my daughter 'right at home' with her friendliness and being so attentive. I wanted to explore and she was so happy to help.. I loved the music.. The atmosphere and glad I popped in. First order from here today, I had the Jerk chicken with rice and peas and a side of coleslaw. My partner played is safe with a chicken burger and chips 🤣 Food was amazing, large portions, piping hot on arrival. incredibly tender. My mouth is still watering. Will definitely be ordering again. ^_^ Edit* this place recently reopened, and I finally got around to trying something more adventurous, ackee and saltfish with hardfood and steam veg! Honestly, the food blew me away, can't wait to try more of their menu!

Love this restaurant. The food and service is amazing . The size of the meals are huge and so filling. If you haven’t tried Jamaica street do it and you won’t be disappointed.

Ordered food for the second time and once again delivery was 2 hours + late. First time I ordered food a couple years ago the order was wrong, cold, slightly burnt and greasy. This time when food turns up the food felt cold from the bag already and they sent a faulty card reader so we couldn’t pay for the food (we know it was the card reader as 3 different cards were tried) we couldn’t even receive the food we had been waiting for. After waiting sooo many hours and having repeated dissatisfaction I will not be ordering from them again. I advise if you do eat , eat in restaurant.

Usually real good with the best food but sadly we waited 2 and a half hours for our order just for the guy to turn up with a broken card machine ;(. Very disappointing when you’ve been waiting a long while, there wasn’t even a proper apology.

The driver got our food and went to near the Orwell bridge then came back and sat in a supermarket car park!!!! Food was warm not hot!! Really disappointed as we have just come back from Jamaica and was looking forward to eating more Carribbean cuisine! Found this little place after being recommended by a friend, so thought I'd check it out. After walking in I was met with a chill vibe, with good music and lighting that gives the restaurant a relaxed but an atmosphere full of life. The setting is adorned with pictures and decorations authentic of Jamaica. I was soon greeted by an energetic server, who instantly made me feel welcome, and quickly took my order of an authentic Kingston 62 Jamaican rum and coke. Which I highly. I ordered myself some Jerk Chicken with rice and peas, food came quickly, as I took a bite of the chicken I was met with moist deliciousness, with a marvelous spice and flavor, the rice and peas an equally splendid accompaniment to the chicken. The portion was good, and filled me up. The person with me got some curry goat and dumplings with rice. I had some myself and the curry goat was a mouth-watering, delectable treat, melt in the mouth with a packs a punch flavor, I'd definitely get a full portion next time. Staff were attentive and on the night I went pretty lively, got into some good conversation with another customer. The vibe in this place makes it an underrated gem, while the food is no less than delightful. I hope to try the patties next time I visit, always loved them, but they're so popular they'd run out by the time I got there. Highly recommend for the hungry local or weary traveller visiting Ipswich for authentic wholesome food.

Was just spending the night in Ipswich and got in late and was surprised to find this restaurant doing deliveries still. The food arrived promptly, the portion sizes were good and it was as tasty as some of the most authentic Jamaican food I've had.
