6pm pre-ordered for delivery at 8pm. Order went through, paid online. Email at 7.26pm saying order has been cancelled. I will get refunded but could take upto 5 days! Very disappointed, out of pocket having to order from somewhere else and got to wait another hour for delivery!

Absolutely terrible. New owners. It won't be long before they close and the old guys will be back in.

I have had food from here for many years , wow: what a fall . Save your money it’s awful. It is not worth the money. Cartons practically empty spare ribs gees they were just a few cold bones. At £7.90! Real shame. Obviously changed hands.

I was really disappointed with this order. Half the seaweed was missing and the carton of chicken fried rice was only 3 quarter full. the food was alright but I feel ripped off. very very disappointed, I won't be ordering again.

Never again knew it had gone downhill recently but thought I give them another try salt and pepper chips soggy undercooked in some sort of liquid sweet and sour chicken in a pink watery sauce undercooked onions and a piece of green pepper prawn chow mien all onion and just 4 prawns awful

Food wasn’t even tepid, it was cold, but because we were so hungry we heated it up in the microwave. In all the years I’ve used Jade Cottage this is the first time it’s happened. I hope it’s a blip!

Always been a firm favourite for us for many years. Haven’t ordered in a long while and was really looking forward to it. Spent nearly 50 quid. No prawn crackers included, portions were definitely smaller on all dishes and the quality wasn’t upto the usual standard. Reluctant to order again.

Usually a great take away and I am a regular, but today every container was half full and stone cold - offered a small amount of credit back as compensation, so essentially £40 out of pocket. Lost me as a customer now

The Duck was terrible, so fatty. barely any meat on the 1/2 duck.

Awful, Ordered a special fried rice, took the lid and the smell of rotten chicken hit me. I called to complain and was told the owner would be in touch. My concern was that they needed to stop serving the chicken

New review 14/01/25. Well well well, what has happened to this place? Haven't ordered from here in a while but was just simply expecting the same good quality food, but how wrong was I. Got it home and I could tell immediately that something was wrong. For example, the sweet and sour sauce is no longer sweet and tangy, as the name implies, along with being the perfect consistency to coat the deep fried meat but instead it's now runny and has a distinctly fruity taste, almost like a tropical fruit drink kind of taste, the colour of the sauce is also no longer the typical sweet and sour sauce you see everywhere but instead some weird reddish purple colour. Never going back to this place, what a disappointment, I should have read the recent reviews which seem to concur with my recent experience. My review from 6 years ago: Went there off the back of all the positive Just Eat reviews. I'm a self proclaimed "Beef with Green Peppers in Black Bean Sauce" aficionado, I've tried many versions of this dish across the country, some excellent, some not so. This place takes around 12 minutes for me to drive to and I have a number of takeaways a lot closer. This takeaway produces Beef in Black Bean just how I like it. Portion size isn't the largest, but quality, taste and texture is spot on and more than makes up for it. This version of the dish ranks as Excellent in my opinion. The sauce was very tasty, with ground up garlic and just the right consistency. There were also some chilli peppers in there, not too many, but just enough to give it a bit of a kick. Certainly not overwhelmingly spicy. The Green Peppers and Onions were good, I'd say if I ate it fresh from the Wok, they'd be even crispier, but that's what you expect due to the time covered in transit. Now, to the best bit, the Beef, no sliminess, no tough bits, just morsels of melt in your mouth goodness. Yummy. I can safely say this place is the best place for this dish in the area and I can't wait to sample other dishes, especially the ribs. I'll be getting my takeaway from here from now on.

less chicken in noodles than usually and a lot of onions in the beef sauce.. more than usually. I always order the same and I am happy with them. I don't know what happened tonight. Maybe I was just unlucky 😁

Been going to Jade cottage for years but suddenly all the sauces and quality has changed,has it changed hands?

1st time ordering from here as appeared good review and 5 star hygiene rating. Food dishes were not good value for money compared to others we have ordered from before and all delivered cold. Plus no prawn crackers. Would not order from here again. Very disappointing meal.

I will not be ordering from here again. 1hr 40 minutes we were waiting. Cartons came half full and cold.

Been ordering for years never again. The food was vile first bite I put in my mouth you could tell the food was rancid. It had all congealed sauce around it like it had been reheated but not enough. The duck we had was neon pink and watery. No taste to that Took back to restaurant and could see into kitchen, kitchen was filthy.. microwave and shelving that was filthy I wouldn’t let a dog eat off it let alone prepare food for other people on them. Staff was very reluctant to give a refund and I had to be firm and insist on one. Have major concerns about this take away and the food hygiene. I worked in catering for many years and I know if food is past it’s best. Do not order food from here unless you want poisoning.

Chips were not fresh . Spare ribs ,don’t know what they were but were horrible.

This used to be the best Chinese in the area, and I’ve been a loyal customer for over 10 years. However, since the recent change in ownership, the experience has gone downhill. The food we ordered on Friday was cold, and the chicken was mostly batter with barely any meat. When I called to politely raise my concerns, the lady on the phone was rude and dismissive, which was very disappointing. It’s sad to see such a great restaurant lose its quality and customer care. I won’t be returning.

Our go to Chinese but since the change of ownership the food is atrocious, seems to be 50% onion, sauces are watery and sweet, portion size reduced ( Thats probably a good thing as it takes up less space in the bin) Management aren't interested in your complaints. never again

Super fast delivery! Food was good but could have done with more crispy beef (asked without veg) so the tray wasn’t full. Other than that, can’t fault them.

I have been to the Chinese on numerous occasions and usually have a good experience. Tonight I ordered. The Singapore Chow mein that came was cold and had barely any meat. No prawns. I phoned the takeaway to let them know and the woman on the phone seemed disinterested. Will go elsewhere.

Wish I’d read reviews before going! My absolute favourite Chinese in Mansfield been going for years! The food I’ve got is diabolical and also they have the cheek to fill the dishes half full when they are charging same as previous owners. The sweet and sour chicken was like water and the ladies response was people cook differently! I made her put more in the container, but it’s still inedible! The worst thing was the attitude of the lady there (not the lady who’s always worked there) she said if you don’t like it don’t come back! Wow!

Curry sauce like water been like that for months had a beef curry the other week just full of onions food used to brilliant will go else where from now on

We have been coming to this Chinese for years, it has always been amazing. But sadly, since new management has taken over the food is no longer good. Food came in under an hour and was somehow cold, nearly all onions in every dish, the sauces were like water, and the salt chilli chicken was all batter and no chicken. So disappointing!!!

Always used to be top quality food however recently its gone really downhill, ownership has changed and none of the original staff are there. Food is bland, often missing items and trays are partially filled which is a real shame as this used to be the best Chinese in Mansfield

Used to be my absolute favourite takeaway, beautiful food. The last 2 times we have ordered the prices have shot up. The food containers are only half full and half of that is onion. There are more onions than noodles in the chow mein. The tofu is soggy and undercooked. The rice was burned. The flavouring on the salt and chili chicken tasted very odd. Not all like salt and chili flavouring. The sausage has changed and is very strange. The only decent bit was the prawn toast. Another customer lost and no more recommendations for you. Judging by recent reviews I am guessing others have noticed and your going to have a major drop in profit!

Was so disappointed with our food.. sweet & Sour Chicken balls were small slices of chicken in a greasy batter, the sauce for them was really bad, chicken fried rice looked burnt, chicken chow mein was edible but not great.. the portion sizes for the rice and chow mein were a joke for £7.50 each!! I’d say the trays were only 2/3 full. Won’t ever go back here and definitely wouldn’t recommend this Chinese takeaway.

What an absolute let down. We gave them a 2nd chance after the last time. But no, definitely not using jades cottage again. The portions aren't like they use to be, the food was cold. This used to be the best place around to have a Chinese. Last 2 time of ordering have been the worst ever cold food and very small portions food not right and not even a sorry won't be going back gave it another try thays why I send 2 times. What ever new chef they have they need to try again

Forgot half my order then didn’t answer the phone so I had to collect the rest, everything was cold even what I had just collected, the curry tasted watered down and the sweet and sour tasted fruity not a patch on previous orders

Been coming here for years too. The food was the best by far. Last few months I thought they had a bad day. I even got severe food poisoning. Food has gone more expensive and quality and quantity downhill. I even went back after food poisoning it used to be that good. Tonight was the final straw. The sauce was watery. Chicken looked raw. I had a special satay and one prawn in it! Paid extra for one prawn. Chips looked like they were a day old. A loyal customer lost and I’ll be giving my custom elsewhere. Such a shame but it’s not jades cottage anymore it’s clearly someone else’s

After a £60 order was very disappointed with the portion sizes, chips and noodles was cold and appeared that the cartons was half empty yet usually full to the brim with plenty of food extra. We’ve always ordered from Jade cottage - was advised that the food has somewhat recently changed but we decided to go to continue with our go to take away, this will be our last order made to this Chinese. Such a shame.

ABSOLUTELY DISGUSTING! 🤢 Been coming here for 10 years plus as it WAS the best Chinese takeaway in Mansfield. That was until it changed ownership. The beef curry had hardly any beef just full of onion it had no taste just bland and what tiny bit of meat it did have was rubbery, the sweet and sour duck had chunks of gristle chucked in, the rice was a strange brown colour and only half portions of everything. The chips were overcooked, cold and powdery, prawn toast was burnt. Sweet and sour sauce (debatable) was bright pink water, it stained the duck meat and had an awful twang. What is this crap? Chinese prison food? Will not be ordering again. MASSIVE DISAPPOINTMENT…we need a new Chinese takeaway!!!

Been coming here years and have never been so disappointed, not only has the food massively gone down hill, they also only half filled the trays. Ribs have no meat on them and absolutely no seasoning (these are meant to be salt and chilli) the chunks of pork are tiny and the beef chewy. £40 wasted not even a proper plate for 2 people. Order was delivered 3 hrs after placing order. Food was cold. Couldn’t contact them because they turned there fones off. Me an my family was waiting. Not knowing if our food was ever gonna show. Booked it at 6:34 it turned up at 9:27 just very very poor. And not good enough. I’ll never use these again. Which is a shame because I’ve had good food from there in the past. Not happy.

Ordered at 7pm and still hadn’t arrived by 930pm! When it finally arrived the entire order was cold and the egg fried rice, clumpy and brown!. We have never had an issue with Jade cottage and I do understand it is Christmas Eve but we do expect an edible meal especially for the price. Refund has been requested.

The sweet and sour chicken Hong Kong style had a weird taste, was far too sweet, it was a very artificial colour and left a horrible aftertaste. The chicken pieces were very hard and dry. The chips were rubbery and cold, perhaps even reheated?

Food was late and stone cold. Every dish. Stone cold. Minimal meat in all dishes, over powered with onion. Chips were as though they had been cooked multiple times and were inedible! Very disappointing, we have used Jade cottage before and it was totally different. We will never use it again and would like a refund on the order!

This was so poor. The portion sizes were so small and it was cold. I have always raved about jade cottage but this has gone down hill. I am disappointed and it was cheap either!

Ownership has changed the original staff no longer work here. I am terribly sorry to announce that thank you for the custom throughout the years will miss the regular customers.

Never had a bad meal from this take away until tonight!!! The rice had so much Soy sauce in that it just tasted of salt. The chicken with lemon sauce wasn't even edible...over cooked pieces of dry salty battered chicken pieces and the lemon sauce was so bitter that we couldn't eat any of it, all the food was luke warm at best. Safe to say we won't be ordering from here in the future!!!

Not sure what’s happened here? Used to be great - this order just received was actually the worst Chinese takeaway we’ve ever had! Called and left a message to say it looked sad, was cold and looked like half portions. Gave it a go though - then tried to call them back shortly afterwards to ask that they came back to collect the swill they’d delivered! Chicken Chow Mein - 2x pieces of chicken, cold and half full. Crispy Prawns - arrived without any crispy coating?! Swimming in a lukewarm yellowish water and a full chopped undercooked onion. Chips/Chicken Ball Combo - there were 19 Chips in total! They were cold, hard and without and salt n chilli seasoning. The chicken balls were 4x sad, flat cold discs of overcooked chewy ‘meat’. Chicken Dumplings - 4x cold, chewy and hard parcels. Seaweed - half a tub of cold, salted cabbage. Prawn Crackers - pretty good. £42.00 and most thrown away! Not sure if this place have swapped chefs or changed hands, however please avoid! Never again!

Not sure if they have changed the chefs , but the food the last few times we have ordered has been poor , the quality of food poor and the food has been cold .

We’ve been using jade for years and always been super happy. However, of late they’ve become much more variable and last night experience was another poor meal. Delivery was excellent. I ordered our usual food but the spring rolls seemed to be the only part that was the usual Standard. The sauces seemed to be watery and lacking flavour and the quality of the meat being used has taken a real dive. Seems odd to say this but the meals don’t seem to be being seasoned… It a real shame as these guys were the best so not sure what’s happened.

Has Jade cottage changed Chefs? Different to usual food. The pros: the pork chow mein was tasty. The hot and sour soup was different than usual, but tasty. The cons: the salt and chilli ribs were, alright but not like other times. The one that hurt my heart, however, were the dumplings. I didn’t realise they switched from steamed to grilled. That was my error. But these dumplings had next to nothing for filling and barely any soy sauce on the side. NOT worth the price I paid.

I do not normally comment but the meal from here was very poor. The chips were burnt, the rice was dark brown and tasted strange. The main meals were watery without a sauce. The portions were tiny . Like everyone who has commented recently, we have ordered from here for years but once bitten twice shy... never again.

For the first time in 35 years of eating them, I threw my chinese takeout away. Yes it was that bad!!! Sorely disappointed, have used Jade Cottage for several years and it's always been the same excellent quality. I don't know if it's changed hands, they have changed chef or what but it was awful! Paid a small fortune for it and wouldn't even give it to the cat

We've ordered from here for over 10 years, normally about twice per month. The food used to be exceptional. The time before last we ordered and the food was vile, however, we put it down to just a bad, one off experience. Last night we ordered again........I literally couldnt tell you what the food tasted like as there was no flavour other than a sweet brown goo of a sauce (two different main courses same goo). I used to recommend this takeaway to others, but now I won't.... In my honest opinion I would save your money or go elsewhere as it isn't a good place to order from.

I’m not sure if they’ve changed owner/chef however we’ve been ordering from here for years and tonight it was completely different food, it looked off, watery, the sweet and sour chicken tasted like strawberry, the curry was thin, the meat was grey, and the prices have increased, such a shame for what was the best Chinese in Mansfield.

Something has gone terribly wrong with Jade Cottage. We've been coming here for years and loved it, but recent orders are watery, burnt, with low quality and sparce ingredients. The prices have shot up but the quality is now so low, it's totally unacceptable. Such a shame!

There was broken glass in my food and the owner has been ignoring my calls. After phoning to complain over several days i was promised every time the owner would call me back to sort the problem however now they are ignoring my calls

AVOID!!! Have been using jade cottage for years and ordered our usual order. They didn’t deliver x 2 items which we had to ring back for to be re delivered. When we opened the food it was stone cold and the portions were TINY. Containers were filled about a quarter way up. On top of all this… the food was foul. Worst Chinese I’ve had. I rang back to inform them how bad it is and she said they’re under new ownership. This will be my last order and I recommend everyone to avoid. Total waste of money.

Extremely disappointed tonight always used to be excellent food but everything tonight was awful, very watery full of onion,undercooked prawns,and different colour curry sauce couldn't even see the sauce when put on the rice it just ran through the rice just like pouring water.we have been very good customers for several years but this was the last I'm afraid

Food arrived on time. However, after years of using this Chinese, I will be looking for an alternative in the future. Food was burnt, half the size of previous portions, yet also increasedin price. Sauces were watery, hardly any chicken in the chicken balls, rice was hard in places like it had been warmed back up, duck was greesy and full of fat. A huge disappointment from a long-time loyal customer. I would no longer recommend it. Whatever has changed needs to be reviewed as I feel you will be losing more custom if this carries on.

Has this takeaway changed owners? We have been using this takeaway for years but the food delivered tonight was nothing like the quality we usually get. As soon as we opened the food it looked different. The curry was really watered down with defrosted meat thrown in and my partner's absolute favourite salt and chilli ribs were awful. they looked different and had no meat on them. Will not use again!

This was my go-to for my Chinese food. I would recommend it to others, but NOW it is terrible was that bad? I rang them to tell them how bad it was.Nearly £70 spent for most of it to go into the bin and a night on the toilet.

Ordered through Uber Eats, tried to contact them but after there was a message - orders from this restaurant are non-refundable. Terrible customer service. Absolutely disgusting.

Chow Mein was not as acceptable judging from previous orders I ordered mushroom all noodles hardly any veg or mushrooms, Curry sauce was watery and spring rolls was not as good as previous orders. The food didn't arrive. Nobody answers the phones

So we placed an order at 7.15 and expected to receive food at 8.15-8.40 but this then changed to 9pm to 9.15. Contacted them and was given excuses such as wrong contact number / wrong address… very rude person… absolute disgusting customer service would never use again.. so disappointing after a full day of work and looking forward to my food…

I’ve been a loyal customer of Jade’s Cottage for the past 10 years, always enjoying their delicious food. Unfortunately, last night’s experience was a huge disappointment and will sadly be my last order from them. We usually stick to our favorite dishes, ordering about once a month, but this time the quality was nothing like it used to be. The hot garlic sauce, which was always full of flavor, tasted like a bland, flour-based gravy. It was completely tasteless and lacked the quality we’ve come to expect. After reading other recent reviews, it seems I’m not the only one who has noticed a drop in standards. My guess is that there’s been a change in ownership, and it’s clear that the food quality has suffered because of it. It’s truly disappointing to see such a great takeaway lose its reputation. Time to find a new Chinese takeaway in Mansfield.
