What a shame! Came in during the week and service and food was brilliant and I sort of should have left a good review ! I’m glad I didn’t because came in today Saturday the 6th January not overwhelmingly busy and the service was awful the food was terrible the staff seemed to be on another planet! Wouldn’t risk coming here again.

It was a weird experience. It didn't seem particularly busy, with a few free tables. There were people milling around at the bar, but nothing unusual. But despite this, we were told that the wait time for food was 25 mins. "OK," we thought, "the kitchen must be under-staffed." Not an unusual situation - in fact quite common. But, after waiting at the bar to order for >20 minutes, we finally gave up and left. The bar/wait staff seemed really over-whelmed, although I've been in MUCH busier establishments where they've coped very well.

We have been coming to this lovely pub for a number of years and never have a bad word to say, in fact it just gets better. The staff are always friendly and efficient and professional the manager Eddie is excellent and always takes time to say hi and nothing is ever too much trouble. The staff are always cleaning the tables and very friendly. The food is always hot and the ales always good. Not sure why people put this great Wetherspoons down! The high street is lovely to walk down and lots of walks nearby.

Staff were really friendly, cheerful and helpful. It was not only that they looked after the older element very well, but were constantly asking every table if the drinks looked like they were getting low if they could help. (Table service only during the covid restrictions) I was very impressed with the way in which staff enforced the covid restrictions. For example, a group of 7 or 8 came in, and were about to sit on one table. Staff immediately asked them to take two tables, which they did. Subsequently, they started to move from table to table, and that was immediately stopped. Food was excellent, and it is good to see that the old daily specials can now be had on any day of the week. (Although only 3 are available now) One of the guest beers tasted off, but this is difficult to determine if you don't know what it is supposed to taste like in the first place!!

We had a breakfast. It was ok, however the tomato was so tiny! The hash browns were quite fatty tasting. However the service was quick and the staff were pleasant. It’s good value and the coffee and tea are constant free refill, but they only have one coffee machine so had to queue. When I went to get my second coffee, I couldn’t because the machine was on ‘cleaning mode’. All in all it was not bad and we would go there again.

Last night myself and four friends went to the Pennsylvanian Wheatherspoons Pub in Rickmansworth for dinner. We have been on numerous occasions and can number up to 12 or 13 . Last night was the last chance they will ever get from us and none of us will go again! I have given up getting steak because it is always chewy and full of fat so I chose the quinoa salad with chicken. The chicken was dry and hard, the ‘salad’ was soggy and the tiny 1/2 advocado was very well past it’s edible stage, what the red messy residue was I have no idea!!! One of my friends ordered a salad and asked for no red onion as it makes her ill, it came with red onion!!The ribs ordered with salad and peas came up with no salad and drowning in gravy!!Another who came slightly later ordered his dinner and it came up with a dessert at the same time, thinking it came up with the meal he ordered ate it, only to later be asked to pay and the full price not the price it would be if it was ordered with the meal The staff are not trained to be polite, flexible or caring and have no idea how to deal with people. Orders not taken in the right order, I could go on and on! I am so annoyed about our experience!

I've visited Rickmansworth a few times, usually at the end of a long walk, when I'm hungry. Albeit last Sunday we were late for lunch, not far off 4pm. The girl in the cafe down the road couldn't be bothered to take our order and we left after noting that the plates from earlier customers had been left on the tables. So imagine our delight when we turned the corner to stumble across a Wetherspoons! The interior was dark and grim, but this didn't put us off. The plump and scowling girl behind the bar didn't seem to have a very clear idea of who was next in line to be served. But I persevered, only to be told as a I gave my order that "we've run aart of food", as though this was my fault. Needless to say, we left in the knowledge that it's best to bring your own sandwiches when visiting Rickmansworth.

I have been visiting this pub for a steak and a beer for many years now. The steaks are better than in an expensive restaurant. Now their steaks are matured not just 21 but 35 days!!! Although it is a part of Wetherspoon chain, "The Pennsylvanian" has managed to retain an atmosphere of a traditional British working-class pub. Cheap beer, cheap solid food and a few old-timers who has been drinking there for most of their lives. Not many UK pubs have managed to retain this unique feel. Recently the food got even better, toilets cleaner and service faster.

After battling through the smokers gathered outside the entrance we managed to find a table quite easily. The bar area was the usual crowd of old men that looked like they had been there all day and would rather be there than at home ! no problem though. The lighting is very dark in there and not the most welcoming. The bar staff are always polite and as usual the drink selection is vast and impressive. The food quality however is very poor, had to send back onion rings that had been burnt twice. The rest of the food was average at best and quality questionable, cheap and stodgy. Since my last review it seems to of deteriorated badly and I would now only recommend drinking here and forget about the food until they up their game.

I have visited this place many times, but this time not very good. Went on the Curry night and was very disappointed. The popadoms were soggy, not cooked, nan bread was cold, the large onion bhajia was tiny, and the curry itself did not fill up the "cup" it was served in. Did not complain as not worth it for a bargain meal and a drink. My wife had the surf and turf, which she finished but steak not done as she instructed. A shame really as has been good in the past. 2 to 4 year old children in the pub area, not at the back as they should be. Bar staff all female and my wife took ages to get served, men before women it seems.A very disappointing experience. Will go again as I do like the establishment, but not for a while.

I have lived in Rickmansworth for over thirty years. My earliest drinking days as an adolescent naturally involved visiting the hostelries of the town, which brought out mixed results as one might expect.Whilst I won't use my review of The Pennsylvanian to draw comparisons to the other pubs in 'Ricky', I will use it to say that myself and lots of other people I know were cheering inside when it was announced that Weatherspoons were opening a pub in Rickmansworth circa 1998.Yes, once you have visited a few Weatherspoons you soon realise that they are all pretty much the same. The food menu differs little between branches, you can expect the beer prices to be reasonable and there to be a wide selection of other drinks available.A pub experience like this, however, was like a breath of fresh air to the drinkers of Rickmansworth that had had enough of over-priced pints served by landlords that didn't really give a monkeys if you came back to their establishmentor not (with a few rare exceptions). So why do I like The Pennsylvanian so much? Well, there is the fact that there is normally somewhere to sit unless it's a mega-busy night. The drinks prices aren't steep compared to the other pubs in town (EXAMPLE: I once got a round in down "The Penn" of five beers and it came in at just over a tenner, the next round down The Feathers set a mate back nearly £30); the service, although very slow sometimes particularly weekends when they don't quite get the staff/punter ratio quite right is usually very friendly and swift once you get served; children are welcome (please take note Fox & Hounds - it's not nice to be barked at when you walk in and get told to get out when you dare to come over the threshold with a CHILD - tut tut, in this day and age...I know); it stays open quite late - don't know exact times but it always seems later than the other pubs and well...I just like it. Don't be expecting anything SPECIAL...it's a Weatherspoons after all; the usual mix of miserable old men moaning and kids buying their first pint is endemic in any of the company's outlets and isn't exclusive to The Pennsylvanian. But...once you have sampled all of the pubs in town over many years like I have, I think you will just know inside the reason why you always prefer The Pennsylvanian over any of the other pubs in town.See you down there.

With the amount of pubs and eateries in Rickmansworth this one is definitely worth avoiding.Went at lunch time and after pushing my way through the group of smokers all collected around the door managed to find a table straight away. We both ordered the chicken burger and the order came fairly quickly. I am guessing this was because it was heated up in the microwave. I've been here once before in the evening with a friend and had a good burger and fries but made a mistake in returning for a family Sunday roast. The beef was tasteless and a really odd texture, smooth like spam or some kind of formed meat. Roast potatoes were undercooked and then deep fried and really dry almost powdery stuffing balls. Having not been here in daylight before I hadn't realised how dark and dingy it is. The place appears to be a magnet to all the local alkies and feels really seedy. We left as soon as possible having left a lot of our meals. There didn't seem much point complaining, it is what it is, cheap and nasty and best avoided food wise

Visited here last week for a family birthday - with 18 of us! We came last year and as it was such great value we came again and we were not disappointed. Considering the number in our party the service was quick and everyone got their meals at the same time (they did make one mistake but it was rectified immediately). All the food was good value - we had 4 kids meals, which were decent portions for the price and the rest of us had various items from the menu. It was curry club day so a few people opted for that (which was great value for a good tasting currry, rice, popodums, chutney and a drink for under £7). The menu had some interesting choices on it and all items had calorific values clearly stated and there were even specific dishes listed as under 500 calories. I went for the chicken and rib combo (obviously not low in calories!) and it was very tasty - consisting of a juicy chicken breast, a half rack of BBQ ribs, a small pot of coleslaw, onion rings and chips. All in all good value - and perfect for kids or families.

The pub is friendly, the beer & food cheap plus the place almost always has copies of the local CAMRA Mags the London Drinker &/or Pints of View to read through if you’re a lone drinker. The Tues / Thurs night Steak / Curry nights offer best value because the meal deal also include a drink. The latest JDW beer festival, including brews from American breweries is worth a visit.

Good atmosphere and great deal on the Steak which was just enough when you are drinking. The place was lively but not to loud but just right. Prices for beer good also.

I absolutely love this pub and the Thai food is just the best. All staff members make you feel extremely welcome and it's a very clean establishment.

Good range of real ale this evening! Marlow brewery, 3 brewers, rebellion etc. Update 01/11/124 poor ale this evening... Landlord, GK IPA 🤮 and Abbots 🤮. Opted for a red wine.. Malbec.. which was nice, but a bit cold.
