Island Street Deli in South Hams

I went here for a family birthday and the woman who served us was so RUDE! She said to my husband that he SHOULDNT BE EATING IN A PLACED LIKE THIS. And because i took the service charge off because i wanted to tip the waiter in cash before i could ever do that she started criticising MY HUSBAND and saying that we was not good customer and shouldnt eat here because of the people we are we are never eat here again and i do not appreciate the staff at all

Outstanding quality of food, wine and service. This is a firm favourite on our itinerary for Salcombe every year. The selection of tapas reached a new high this year so we ordered the entire menu!

Cannot praise the staff and food enough! We chose to eat at the Sea Monkey several times during our 2 week holiday in Salcombe. The lunch menu and the breakfast menu didn’t dissapoint! The tasty food was all freshly cooked, the beer/cider was well kept, but the number one stars are the staff! Welcoming, knowledgeable and very accommodating with our special needs dog ……..a big, big thank you to Tom, Daniel and Max for going above and beyond by making us feel valued😀

Friendly staff and great ambiance. Had a selection of tapas dishes. Pretty average and overpriced. Would not go again.

Good evening We are currently on holiday in the area and were looking for somewhere to eat as hubby and i are celebrating our 50th birthdays. We popped in today and spoke to very helpful staff, we appreciate the short notice. We booked a table of 5 people, 8pm, with slight flexibility, and we were able to bring our dog. We had a table upstairs, ordered food and drinks. We then waited for over an hour for the food, staff brought us bread and dips as an apology. Then only 4 of our 5 pizzas arrived, husband questioned it, we actually decided that 4 was enough, however staff were insistent that the 5th one would come out, which was considerably undercooked and clearly rushed. Staff were still helpful, bill arrived - a 15% service charge had been added - we have re examined the menus given to us (photos taken) and your website and can see no information whatsoever about this? We duly paid - and we had to remind staff to take off the £50 deposit. I have tried to leave a public review about the service charge in order to forewarn other potential customers, however cannot see any platforms where we can do this, which is very concerning. We cannot leave an honest review on facebook, tripadvisor etc, is this a concern? I shall be looking into the legalities of the service charge, as at no point was this raised/mentioned to us. We leave Salcombe on Saturday and will update you re legal findings.

As a first time experience, we were left with a bad after taste …. Staff attitude really needs addressing. 12.5% service charge added with out prior warning. Inappropriate music whilst dinning & volume level meant we were almost shouting at each other. Side dishes arrived long after main meal & we had to remind staff. Food - pizzas were OK, the tapas dishes were presented well, but not all executed well… Overall, it was not a positive experience & we will not go back

A brilliant evening with excellent tapas food, great wine and amazing service. Well done to all the staff concerned. The venue is quirky and fashionable. Thank you. We will be back very soon.

So glad to return to Sea Monkey for evening tapas on Saturday and it was just good as we had remembered it from last year. This is the standard that Salcombe has been crying out for - outstanding quality of food and wine, reasonably priced and in a casual atmosphere. The staff are very friendly and attentive, and owners Mark and Annelie find time for their customers, no matter how long and hard their shift has been.

Oh what an absolute gem! The food was amazing 🤩 So very fresh and full of flavour. I’d eat it again right now but it’s 6.20am on Sunday….. Great atmosphere/ ambience. Staff were lovely and attentive. The chef came out after his shift which is always nice to be able to thank someone in person. Had a wonderful table out the back overlooking the estuary. Highly recommend 👍👍👍

Excellent tapas meal in a relaxed and informal environment. The staff were super friendly and helpful in recommending our choices. This is our second time here and would thoroughly recommend.

We walked the length of Salcombe to visit the Crab Shack - unfortunately it was fully booked. The only other restaurant was this one. What a mistake. The staff were pleasant but extremely disorganised We ordered Tapas. It was excessively overpriced for the quality and quantity we received. 4 prawns and a bit of lettuce for £12, 4 crab balls for £12 etc etc. I think that the draught beer I had was off and undrinkable. We certainly will not be going back.

Firstly the staff were friendly and I get the impression they are really trying to make this place work. The portions though are way too small and most of the dishes on the menu outside were not available. Its a nice little place but I don't think they've quite got the concept of tapas. Prawns were frozen from a packet (I like mine shell on with crispy bits!) and the chewy crab ball things were just that, chewy crab ball things. It has a nice vibe though so maybe try it out and see if we just a had a bad day. I would definitely recommend they look at this book for a few ideas. Second time here for dinner and have to say we were disappointed with the tapas this time. Portions very small and def not value for money. Visited last year and enjoyed a lot more. Definitely didn’t feel the standard of the food and service was near to last year. Shame as we were looking forward to returning this year. Maybe try next time and hopefully be back up to last years standards.

What a fabulous little place this is, we have always liked island street deli on our visits to salcombe but never had the chance to eat there in the evening - Sea Monkey tapas. We were so glad that this time we were able to, the food was fresh, full of flavour, absolutely delicious and I think we tried one of every dish because they were all so good. We also ordered two pizzas and a garlic bread which were as we would describe ‘proper pizza’. Staff were great, super accommodating and so friendly, genuinely felt like nothing was too much trouble. Great selection of wines and soft drinks, we have already said on our next visit to salcombe we will book here for at least two nights. Can’t wait to come back.

Great evening out. Beautiful deli by day, which transforms into a very lovely and lively tapas bar in the evening. A very high standard of produce on display here. We ordered the slow roasted pork belly, absolutely Devine. The seared beef is highly recommended with a side order of divine garlic roasted baby potatoes. The very lightly battered hake tacos were one of my favourites, and the scallops in a very good broth were good. We met the owners on the evening and can only wish them well going forward, and say thank you for a very lovely night out

Me and my boyfriend Harry visited Salcombe for a week with his family and we had one evening alone of which we decided to visit island street deli/sea monkey tapas bar, fantastic location, the staff were so fun, welcoming and attentive, the food was beyond compare and easily the best in Salcombe, you absolutely must visit this place if you are in south Devon, we didn’t have time to go and say goodbye as we had a lot to do before we left but we will definitely be going back for the perfect staff, amazing cocktails and 10/10 food with a view!

Lovely salads and chicken and ham pie. Home made and local. Good range of drinks. Eat outside overlooking creek or inside amongst interesting decor. Take away option. Like their ethics.

Great food, great service, great atmosphere, great location and they had Devon Gold cider which we can't find anywhere else.

Visited the restaurant and tapas bar at the rear of Island Street Deli at lunchtime today. What a treat!! Unsure of what to have the sharing platter was suggested and it didn’t disappoint. The quality was great, the portions more than adequate and our bellies...

Had the pleasure of having supper at the Island Street Deli yesterday evening with my family. The service was excellent but was nothing compared to the food. Delicious tapas plates all freshly prepared and exquisitely executed, I couldn’t recommend it more.

Relaxed and informal vibes. Our daughter loved her cup of hot chocolate ( with extra marshmallows ). We enjoyed some excellent food and chilled music. We definitely recommend it for anyone. If you have had a bad day this place would wash your blues away....

Don’t bother, really don’t bother. Push button coffee that is either ‘milky’ or ‘very milky’. Must have bought the machine from BHS circa 1984. Why open a cafe if you don’t even have a clue how to make an average coffee never mind a rubbish...
