Great experience, superb surroundings with all comfort imaginable for business setting , well trained , professional and courteous team. Appreciate how welcoming IoD was to us and will definitely be back. While access to Pall Mall is one of many membership perks , it certainly is a significant one.

Excellent value as a meeting place in London. Noisy in the directors room, head to the garden or morning room. Quiet champagne bar downstairs.

The IoD at 116 Pall Mall is very grand (it used to be the United Services Club - so you get a view of the famous "Clubs" in St James'. I went for the prawn cocktail and burger - not very original, but quite daring since I have not touched a prawn cocktail since 1984 (ish). What to say? The meal was first rate and the surroundings were extremely grand. Our server, Domas, was so polite, attentive and helpful (give that man a big raise). And yes, I can't wait to go back again.

Had an event/dinner with 40 people, the venue is just fantastic, the staff so nice-friendly-helpful. The food was so above expectations considering the size of the group, it was top class.

Extremely disappointed by the service. Staff are rude, they lack professionalism. They are money motivated. Not concerned about their customers.

We were a fairly large family lunch party. The menu had something for everyone and excellent value quality wines. Couldn't fault it.

I haven’t eaten here before so was delighted to enjoy excellent food and service for the prices on the menu. From a first rate risotto as a starter to a well presented and moist plaice dish, two courses for £15 is tremendous value. The bottle of Chablis at £45 a bottle was over the top, however, despite everything. The setting in a vaulted basement was perfect, a mixture of intimacy and discreet business, which is after all, what this place is about. Cheerful, attentive and knowledgeable waiting staff made an excellent impression. Well done!

This is a real hidden gem with amazing rooms with high ceilings and some mega paintings. But sadly you can only visit here if you are a member of the IOD or you are a guest. I was here for a lunchtime meeting. Its a really impressive venue, very similar to some of the gentleman's clubs in London but not quite so stuffy. My bacon and Camembert toasted bun was lovely and the chips were proper, and old school.But £45 for two sandwiches and chips, a salad and a bottle of water felttopppy, even in 2020 London.

... a modern-claiming place for doing business. CAVEAT: only members and their guests are admitted. Membership is far from being free. We are happy to recommend the place for its traditional touch. For its location, quite central. For its decorum, with classical paintings and wooden panels. For its building, nice and well-kept. For its business facilities, excellent for various kinds of meetings. The common meeting room-coffee room can be noisy, and private room must be hired. As for the food: serving staff can tell no further than explaining that the content of a glass is 'red wine' (great humour, but traditional English humour is also in need of some reform). The food can be fatty, tasteless of otherwise barely edible. The restaurant has the merit to offer something to eat in a traditional setting whilst not exiting the building, but little else.

We were going to the ballet at the Coliseum across Trafalgar Square so, as a member, decided to pop in here for a pre-theatre drink and meal. In January the main restaurant is only open at lunchtime, so we settled down in the Wine Bar and had an enjoyable bottle of wine with a meal, starting with a cheese platter and followed by a hamburger with cheese and chips. The menu is limited, but was very enjoyable and the staff and atmosphere was very friendly.

Stopped into Cafe Duke instead of heading for another basement tea room across Trafalgar Square. Took a friend who was up from the sticks. I really liked it. It’s unusual. You are having a tea or coffee in what used to be a wash room. But the tiling is authentic, we are losing all too much of this, and it has been laid out very well. It’s a talking piece. I found it very easy to relax and have a good conversation. No real need to whisper - and several other tables doing the same thing, having a working tea break. Staff were ideal and helpful. Good selection of cafe drinks and the nibbles or cakes to go with it. Oh, and although the pool tables were props and no longer there, you would not be surprised if the Joker walked in. It’s a real charm all of its own.

(Member Review) I love taking potential clients to the IOD for because the impressive venue never fails to make the wheels of commerce turn so very easily. When I’m alone in the City (usually prior to a good haggle over the price of a wristwatch), a full breakfast & a newspaper in the Carlton Room is a great way to begin. Basically the IOD is a business tool which stays sharp all on its own 😎

Came here for lunch after a formal occasion. I knew it was a traditional setting and that was exactly what I wanted. Good choice es from a simple menu, Excellent service, top quality food and delicious, if a little expensive, wines.

First off all, you will be greeted with the most impressive richness and grandeur this building. We were seated in The Wine Bar restaurant a cosy yet restaurant feel space. We ordered the Burger which I have to say one of the best I have had in a long time! We didn't have to wait too long for the service which was prompt and swift. The restaurant itself was lovely although my only slight disappointment was there didn't seem to that full for a Friday evening..... then of course I could imagine a fabulous atmosphere in here.

I have eaten here a few times, and the food is generally very good and sensibly priced for London. Not a wide menu, however the benefit of this is that the flavours are great.

What a breakfast! £13 for a huge plate of great ingredients, beautifully cooked and a pot of tea, served in Victorian splendour. Always knew it is one of the best places to meet and work but what a place to eat!

Been a member for donkeys.Enjoyed a wonderful lunch and it set us up for the rest of the day. A wonderful Grade 1 Listed building in fashionable Pall Mall. Fresh produce and excellent service.What else do you need guys!

Yo estaba en el IoD en Pall Mall para un seminario de un día completo - el café no era genial, pero los bocadillos, la habitación, la escalera que conduce a que, las vistas hacia el Centro y hacia los jardines y la eficiencia del lugar ayudado este será un día de lo más agradable.

I use IoD quite regularly for meetings. The cafe in the basement is quite a good location. The large room on the ground floor is good if one has meetings after 6.30 pm as it is quieter at that time.

Nice wine bar and restaurant in the lower level of a grand old building. Cosy ambiance in the wine bar, although the cafe is not so cosy.

There is still a grandeur to this establishment. One that brings back fond memories, as my father was a member here. Of course it has changed since then in some respects but it is still a very good place to meet and discuss business.

Very hit or miss as to whats available both in terms of menu choices and rooms to sit in - they seem to focus most of their efforts on private events. The food is largely overpriced pub grub, and the bar bills are the same. There are much better options in central london

Una gran ubicación y un lugar para reuniones de trabajo, et al. Un interior tradicional que tiene servicios de acordes. Muchos visitantes comentar y observar este instituto mucho en el sector de las PYME en particular. No es barato pero buena relación calidad-precio!

Delicious roast carrot and coriander soup served hot with two types of bread (£5.50) followed by the tuna mayonnaise and cucumber in a warm granary baguette (£8.00) proved an excellent snack lunch taken at my work table in the Director's Lounge. Service efficient and friendly. Perfect.

Attended IoD for 2 days training. Excellent venue, despite the heat of a London summer the room was well air conditioned, lots of natural light and well set out. The food was very good - a hot meal and v tasty pudding too! The location is excellent, in the historic heart of Pall Mall. St James's Park and Hyde Park all v close to enable a walk in the fresh air.

We attended a company celebration. The event ran like clockwork , you felt nothing was too much trouble. The staff looked after everyone with a great degree of care, ensuring that great hospitality was experienced by everyone.

Took an old friend to lunch in the main Restaurant, in its recently new location. The Restaurant is now situated in a very big corner room, with great views across Pall Mall and busy London, through huge windows. Big pictures of historic sea battles and naval officers, from 200 years ago, all added to the overall setting.The service was, as usual, excellent and efficient. I much enjoyed my food and wine, with a very good choice.I will certainly be going again soon.

I am fortunate enough to be a long term member of the IoD however this is the first time i have had lunch there. Great food and pleasant service. I love the building and garden.

Awesome venue, but you need to be a member / guest to enter. For young people under 26, I'd suggest signing up for under £100 a year. Note the weekend closures, which may be less useful to some.

IoD offers excellent facilities for executive meeting and luncheons in adjacent rooms. Service is professional; meeting rooms are quiet, well appointed and easily accessible within Saint James area of London.

Essentially an events venue. The stunning rooms with their chandeliers, massive portraits and other classic paintings make for a very dramatic evening. The main staircase is a spectacle too. Enjoyed a fantastic 3 course meal with great entertainment and service from one of our business partners. Sheer elegance. Great spaces to utilise for events and nice views of the Mall.

We had a meeting at the IoD on Tuesday 7 March and wanted something light for lunch. We both decided on the Fish Finger Sandwich in the basement Wine Bar. It was very very disappointing. There were several irregular shapes of well done oily bread-crumbed items between the slices of bread. They were not "fingers", there was very little fish amongst the breadcrumbs and there was in any event insufficient to fill the sandwich. The usual super market variety, preferably grilled rather than deep fried, would have been infinitely better. It is beyond my comprehension than any competent chef or cook could sent something like this from their kitchen. Sadly, no one bothered to ask how our meal was, so it was not worth the hassle of having to raise a complaint. Surely the serving staff would be aware that this standard of food is unacceptable. Such a shame because the IoD is a magnificent venue for business meetings.

Great spot for meetings or just getting some work done between. Lots of options from the wine bar to the cafe to the public rooms to the private rooms. Some can get noisy if you're making calls though.

Been a member for a while and I used this venue for first time on Friday. Not busy, plenty of space and no loud men on mobile phones Staff discrete and professional with right level of attentiveness. Food and drink good value for money. Will now use more often Perfect

Good for small business meets, with tables available. Food,downstairs not too good very ordinary with not much taste.

I was a guest in a party of 8 for lunch in the main Restaurant at IoD. Service and quality of food was good - though the choices on the table d'hote menu were not to everyone's taste meaning most chose from the a la carte menu. Pretty full, but we had booked ahead, impressive surroundings and a quiet professional atmosphere - only issue as I have found before here is it quite slow. Surprising for a place catering for busy people - it operates at a single pace which is fine for those lunches where time is not the issue, but otherwise it means no pud or coffee !

Very easy conferencing experience, reception staff on hand to deal with any requests or queries. The lunch was great, tea and coffee on tap and good conferencing facilities.

I was invited by a member of IOD. This was a special treat, the room is very big and has a lot of magnificent paintings. The tea and cake is very nice and I only wish I could spend my afternoons with friends there more often.

Members club with excellent facilities. Very good lounges and service. Good restaurant and bar. Good menu and prix fixe menu. Very good for business lunches and as a base for meetings.

The Restaurant is a good place for meeting as well as dining . The quality of the Service and the food was Excellent.

I had dinner with business colleagues this evening in the IOD. It's a gorgeous building in an amazing location yet it feels archaic. All of the pictures on the walls are men (unless you're the Queen) and they twice refilled sparkling water with still... Without checking or asking... Food was decent and not over priced and service was friendly. Good for an uncle or elderly relative but not for the 21st century...

I was a member here for over a decade but it just got too busy. Plenty of facilities and attentive staff, so 1st class service. Food was always good on the restaurant or lounge.I pop back for meetings from time to time but don't feel I'm missing out.

Was there for a 'Club dinner event' with political speaker. Very good and grand location but that's all the positive I can give.Food and table service was poor. No alternative offer made to my wife who had said prior to the event she didn't wish to have the smoked fish starter. Waiting staff generally not well enough trained (cleared while others at table still eating). Quality and freshness of food not good enough, wine not good enough for the price we paid - and we were required to leave at 11pm instead of them providing bar facilities to round off the evening. Not a great experience.

I am an IOD member but, until now, had not entertained business guests for lunch there. The Restaurant is beautiful - high ceilings and natural light. It was refurbished in 2014. It was not busy at all the day I visited for lunch. This was slightly off-putting but was made up for by the fact that the staff were wonderfully attentive without being over-bearing in any way. My guest and I only had one course - I had scallops and my guest had risotto. The food was absolutely delicious and presented in a very attractive way. I would definitely take guests again for lunch at this restaurant.

Well I was a member in the past but don't do London trips any more as I am part retired and today I was a guest of a member. I had forgotten how really upper class British this place is.. the traditional British decor and smartness of all the staff is exceptionally comforting. The service for food in the lounge areas is really perfect. I had a Caesar salad as well as tea and it was excellent. Thank you

Very good for business, food and service very solid and you can actually speak in the restaurant without straining to hear, an oasis in the west end.

Had a meeting and lunch in the downstairs wine bar. Very good and affordable. Decent selection of food and a great wine list.The main Directors hall was very busy and staff were excellent in finding us somewhere to have a quiet business discussion and lunch.Will definitely use it again.

I have been a Member of the IOD for more than a quarter Century, you need to be a Member or Guest of a Member to get in, but if you are either, you should try the Restaurant. Excellent and attentive Service, very good Food. Not cheap, but you would not expect this to be cheap. Well worth a visit if you can.

I am a long-standing IoD member, yet was very surprised to discover how good the food and wine at the main restaurant is. Formal dining at its best.

Well, you really wouldn't expect anything less from the IoD. Magnificent setting. Fine wine and dining, thoroughly recommended for that special meal, wether with business colleagues or friends.The staff and the pianist add that special touch so difficult to find these days.I recommend this venue to you.

As a long time Member of the IOD, I have frequently used the Brasserie and informal catering offered in the Director's Room but had seldom used the formal restaurant. It is a magnificent and large room with terrace for informal summer use. With two business colleagues we enjoyed an excellent 2-course set lunch (£24.95) which offered a limited but interesting choice. Lovely fishcake followed by superb breast of chicken. Crisp skin, moist and tender flesh with a delicious creamy tarragon sauce and some green beans. Must try the a la carte menu next time.

I was invited to a business lunch today at the IOD in London which - after the RAC (see separate Review) is probably the second best well known Pall Mall Club.I was hoping to eat in the main Restaurant (a mirror image to the RAC equivalent) but, unfortunately, this was undergoing some refurbishment. No matter, the decor of the other restaurant whilst less impressive was was perfectly acceptable. Service was first-class but I was less impressed with the overall quality of the food - (participularly, my duck starter.All in all, a good experience but one that served to remind one that standards on the Mall are high and there is no shortage of competiton!

The concept behind the IoD is good, but the Pall Mall location has become too busy over the last year or so to the point that we find that it's often not conducive to either working there alone and even less so if meeting other people. Added to that, a recent refurbishment has not brought the building to a modern standard.

I come here quite often, either alone or to meet with colleagues. It's a relaxed and refined venue for informal meetings. The service is good and the food reasonably priced for central London. I haven't eaten in the restaurant yet, but have enjoyed a very tasty burgher in the wine bar.

We hosted a customer conference here and it was a perfect space and centrally located in St. James in London - so easy for everyone to get to. The IoD staff was very helpful and they even have private meeting rooms above their event spaces in case you need to have smaller meetings, etc. Would definitely recommend if you're looking for a non-hotel space to host a business event.

The location is superb and nicely decorated. The restaurant serves great food in a nice environment. Service is OK. The place could do with more informal seating as it is mostly laid out for business meetings. Worth a visit.

Elegant building where we had drinks in a separate room prior to dinner. The service was excellent and the food very good. A great place to hold a formal dinner, we were a group of 80.

I will keep it concise. The location, the setting, the service and of course the food. Highly recommended if you are a member or lucky enough to be a guest.

The food was absolutely beautiful and the building itself is extremely impressive. The staff were attentive and overall the experience was excellent.

Decisamente per affari, se si e' membri si entra e si possono ospitare partner d'affari, tre tipi di ristoranti, classico Inglese vecchio stile con imponenti quadri di varie battaglie e posateria d'argento, ristorantino stile francese e al seminterrato, ristorante piu' casual stile pub Inglese ma sempre di qualita'. Per chi e' membro, prezzi/qualita' imbattibili e immagine assicurata con I partner d'affari.

Visited for an early lunch prior to an afternoon formal occasion. We had the set menu, but with a slight change to the main course as my wife is coeliac, this proved to be no problem. The surrounds are very traditional, but also relaxing. The food was as expected, OK, although the fish dish (COD) my wife had was excellent. The bread selection served was excellent, they also provided gluten free bread for my wife. The drinks selection was wide, but the house wines were perfectly acceptable. Perfect lunch time location for business or pleasure.

Seated by the maitre d.Starters of asparagus wrapped in Parma ham was very tasty and well presented.Main course of Guinea fowl again well cooked, tasty and well presented.Sweet course of vanilla panacotta was ideal in size and taste .Coffee and tea served with hand made chocolates go finish .Staff were efficient and attentive at all times.

Although IoD features some great restaurants, I only came here for a drinks at the bar and a meeting. The location is conveniently located just a few minutes from Picadilly Circus or Trafalgar Square. The staff was very friendly and helpful. I would definitely come back here to try the food at the restaurant.

It was a pleasure to have been invited to such an elegant and classy venue. The main restaurant was most impressive, the service was exceptional and the food was what one would expect from a team of highly qualified chefs.

The main dining room is grand, the food and service tend to match up to that. The wine bar in the basement has a buzz about, is friendly with good service and excellent food.

Always use the IOD when in London. Good service but food was average. The salad was small and average.The Directors room was extremely busy and almost impossible to work in.I put it down to a busy Friday in January and hope it's a one off disappointment.

A slightly austere looking, but nonetheless relaxed and pleasant brasserie with a limited menu of sandwiches, burgers and appetisers plus daily specials that is just right for a quick business lunch. More than good enough to entertain potential clients without being seen to be over the top - the main restaurant is for that purpose! Service from an array of East European waitresses was charming and polite albeit a little slow on my last visit. Members only with guests by invitation.

This is a member access facility. You either work here or have to be a member or guest. Elegant dining in the various dining areas. Great bar downstairs built like and old bunker / tube tunnel with brick effects

I have to confess I haven't been to this restaurant however my wife did and brought me home a cheese course wrapped in a napkin. Despite being in her handbag all afternoon, visiting Fortnum and Mason, a train and car journeys it was absolutely delicious. In fact I think if anything the time spent in her handbag enhanced the cheese course. I'm looking forward to visiting this restaurant in February and trying the cheese course whilst on the premises to make a comparison.

I'm a frequent user of the IoD, we've been meeting clients and doing business here for many years. The atmosphere is refined, the location is great, there's never any hurry and the staff are attentive and polite. The food and wine is great value.
