Love a wee lunch in here, it's not too noisy but a buzz about the place ,beers are excellent and the steak frites and peppercorn sauce are fantastic. Service (robyn) is super friendly and a great example of how gastro type pub should run

From the moment you walk in, you're in for an excellent time. The food: Awesome, especially for us two unworthy vegetarians. The beer: The stout and the pale, both a description of myself and the beers we had. Both superb. The staff: Magnificent. They made a pair of Aussies feel very welcome. The atmosphere: Outstanding place to come and have a drink and a bite to eat. Overall, we'd go again at the drop of a hat!

Fantastic range of beers great food staff very attentive good atmosphere

Very nice pub, very friendly service. The prices are too high, the food is not good. One serving of fries 6 pounds. There was one person, probably the pub manager, who acted unpleasantly. The pub was also empty very early, doesn't seem to be doing well. Other pubs were super full and had a great atmosphere.

Great place a great selection of drinks

Was really disappointed by this place. We came in and politely asked if there was a table available for two at that moment and the answer was “uhh maybe I guess,” which was frankly unprofessional. plates were slammed down by our waitress, and we waited ages between each stage even though the restaurant was quiet. The steak fries were supposed to be unlimited and 30 mins after we had finished not one single member of staff came up and offered us any refill or our plates cleared. In the end we got up, paid at the counter and left, still hungry. The kitchen was not closed as a plate went out as we were leaving. Was a shame, as was looking forward to eating here after recommendations from friends.

A bit on the dark side, but could be decorated a bit more cozily. The main light came from the menu above the bar.

The service was amazing, very well informed, and always there for you. Super chilled atmosphere and great selection of beers. I had a steak and chips, which tasted excellent with the addition of garlic to it. If you ever get to visit Scotland, it is a MUST to try out the Innis and Gunn beer 🍺 👌🏻

great central location and really good food and drink options

We liked our first visit here, we came back for a second. Food menu is limited, we really enjoyed the Mac & cheese, the burger, and the specialty fries. Beer? Of course! Great to get draft I&G, which we can't get back in the States.

This was my second time here, and all I can say is that it has quickly become one of my favorite spots in the city. I love the Original Innis & Gunn and that’s what brought me there originally. The vibe is great and the bartenders are quick and efficient! Charlie was awesome! Thanks again for everything! Until next time :)

Got awesome service even though we were walk-ins and they were super busy.

Used a burger and drink Itison voucher. Very warm friendly welcome and friendly servers. Just opposite the Usher Hall bus stop coming into the city so convenient . Very noisy venue though because of the building design. A quiz started not long after we arrived and it was very difficult to hear the quiz guy asking the questions and he had a microphone! The classic burger was very tasty but the chips could have done with being stacked in a pot to stay crispy rather than loaded on the plate. Not many Bars offer white wine on a properly chilled glass 😄. Would return as the drinks on offer were very varied and I had not seen the Orchard Pig Reveller cider around for a long while.

Pub with a brewery atmosphere. Very large selection of draft beer! Over 20 varieties, good selection of small dishes.

Great beer from both in-house and guest taps. Excellent food. A bit loud for intimate conversation but a fine place to hang out. Recommend reserving a spot for 2 hours. You can then extend your stay by moving!

Drank wonderful I&G ale only - food looked very good but timing was wrong to partake!

We went in to try some of their beers. From the first moment we were very well served by the waiter at the bar. We only drank two half pints while making time to get to the hotel. I was reading the menu and we were left wanting to try something.

Spent a lovely afternoon, sampling several beers accompanied by really tasty food, we ordered the garlic butter chips twice 🤷🏻‍♂️😂 Great service and very friendly staff

Innis & Gunn in Edinburgh is a must-visit! Their well-known and beloved beer is the most comforting brew I've ever had – creamy and smooth, it hits the spot perfectly. UPDATE 17 June 2024 - 7 years since my last visit and I was so disappointed. The great menu they had before has been reduced considerably. The service was poor; we felt like we were disturbing our server by asking her for another drink. Gutted! -------------- I've always been a big fan of Innis & Gunn beers so when I was in Edinburgh I had to visit. I loved their selection of beers and had quite a few. The food was good - it's nice to see their beer being used in the dishes. The slow cooked ham that my wife had was excellent. Service was very good, I'll be back!

There are a good variety of beers on tap. The service is friendly and they are happy to help you make a selection or give a little taste. The Innis & Gunn are nothing like I've tasted before in Canada!! 🥲

Dingy and dark place, quite soulless with corporate feel - a metaphor for central Edinburgh these days. Usual selection of Innis and Gunn beers and guests. Staff nice enough, know their stuff.

We went for the Steak Frites deal at Innis & Gunn, and oh my word, we were not disappointed. In fact, we were blown away! The amount of food and drink, and the quality of it was outstanding! 2 portions each for £20 is almost theft! This also included a wonderful rarebit starter, which set us up nicely! Stunning. Can't recommend it enough!

My dad and I had a great day at the Innis & Gunn Edinburgh Brew School experience! James was our awesome guide for the day. He was friendly, approachable, and very passionate to share his knowledge about beer and the company. Nothing was a problem and he was very attentive. The Brew School started at 10am and it was great to have the bar to ourselves for a couple of hours before opening as normal to the public. We shared the day with two other groups of two. Everybody got on well, which made the day very relaxed. It was smart to use the company's brewing kit called The Grain Father. James coached us through the fundamentals that lie behind creating beer. He gave us insights into specific beer styles, flavour profiles and the little tips and tricks that can make all the difference to the brewing process. It was a very hands on experience that everybody got involved with. All levels of experience are clearly welcome. A flight of four beers, a hearty lunch (choice of burgers or mac and cheese), and a schooner of beer broke up the day very nicely! James was also on hand to provide beer samples throughout the experience. Overall, it was a great day of brewing our own beer and sampling lots of Innis & Gunn beers in a relaxed setting. I would definitely do it again and recommend it to anybody who has an interest in the brewing process!

I live in Canada and have been drinking Innis & Gunn for years. It was really cool to finally visit the brewery and restaurant. Food and drinks were awesome and service was great. Tried Haggis for the first time ever here! Highly recommend.

This was an experience involving brewing your own beer as well as sampling much of what was on offer. The guide was entertaining and informative and fun was had by all involved. Thoroughly recommended.

Nice beers in draft Innis & Gunn serves not only their beers but also other local brewery crafts. Good ambience, great menu but due to their busy they couldn't serve food which was odd.

The atmosphere was friendly with a great vibe - we happened to go on a Wednesday when there is a steak and frites special - it was delicious and if you are still hungry after you are done eating you can have a second helping - the pepper sauce on the steak was so delicious - the beer choices were awesome too

Been once never again. The only saving grace was the waiting staff, maybe we went on a bad night, but dark and sole less place, no atmosphere at all. We had a groupon voucher and were looking forward to our visit , but to find out that the menu I looked at when I bought the voucher no longer existed and what was left was very minimal . It was a 2 course menu that I bought but I was told it was for starter and main , but there was only one starter as they didn’t have any chicken wings so we had to have scotch eggs, which arrived on a side plate sliced in 2 , with no garnish to help make it look appetising. My partner was looking forward to the fish and chips but that wasn’t on the menu any longer, he opted for the chicken burger which at first looked good but he found it very dry as if it had been reheated. My Mac and cheese was also very disappointing with not much cheese content though the garlic bread was ok , if you only wanted a pint before you went on to somewhere else to eat it’s fine but I wouldn’t eat here again

The Innis burger was very good, the Innis Caribbean rum beer was original but very pleasant. Menu suitable for children, macaroni cheese well dosed and not cloying. The server is really pleasant and smiling!

What an absolutely phenomenal place Innis & Gunn is. From the moment you walk in, you're greeted by a friendly face offering you a seat where-ever you fancy. The atmosphere at around 2pm on a Tuesday is chill and laid back. There is no rush to order food or get another drink. And no one is hurrying you along out the door. 3 of us chose to do a tasting which is 20£ per person and consists of 6 - 1/3 pints of some of their best brews. We also opted for a late lunch and ordered their Chicken Burger, Wings, Burger, and Scotch Egg. All the food was fresh, hot, and delicious. Even the fries were crispy and so so good! I imagine this place can get quite busy in the evening so we were glad to go in the afternoon before the rush. It allowed us to get to know staff, chat, and enjoy the beer, food, and atmosphere without feeling compressed by too many people and too much noise. If we are back in Edinburgh at any point, we will DEFINITELY return!

Twice we've been now and twice we've been well looked after. Offering great food and drinks offers at the minute. Atmosphere is nice and the staff are friendly. Great selection of beers and other drinks. Highly recommend.

Modern, open space with a long bar and big, bright menu made up of mostly I&G beers. Great vibes with a good music selection. Staff are friendly, helpful, and efficient. Tank lager was a bit disappointing but this spot is worth a visit.

Innis & Gunn Taproom is located on Lothian Road and although it looks small from the outside, it’s a mighty space inside with plenty of large tables and benches. You might find yourself sharing with others though. They have live music on weekends and welcome well behaved dogs! Most of the staff are friendly and helpful with several check backs and topping up of drinks. We headed out on a Wednesday night and it was extremely busy, so I would definitely encourage you to book a table if you are going to eat. But lets get back to the amazing deal that is Steak Frites. For seven days a week you can enjoy their Steak Frites for £19.95. For this you’ll start with a glass of The Original with the chef’s starter and then a chargrilled 35 day dry aged Scottish steak, garlic butter fries and The Original steak sauce. The fries are bottomless so you can ask for as many as you want whilst you can dine on a second steak at no extra charge! I reckon this is a foodie bargain of note. To start, our Bruschetta Bite was tasty. Piled high with a finely diced tomato salsa, drizzled with balsamic atop a thin crunchy bread base. Not a crumb or morsel was left. Soon after washing down the Bruschetta with large glugs of beer, the Steak Frites arrived. Lying between the thin crispy well seasoned, garlic butter fries, and the tender chargrilled 35 day dry aged Scottish steak, lay a valley of The Original Beer steak sauce; almost like a very mild extremely creamy pepper sauce. Fries bring the crunch, steak brings soft succulent umami and the sauce brings it all together in a luxurious hug. We ordered a side of Charred Hispi Cabbage with red wine jus glaze and crispy onions (£7). This was utterly gorgeous. And the Salt and Vinegar Onion Rings (£6) - crunchy with soft sweet silky soft onions inside. The Vegan/Vegetarian offer is Mushroom Steak Frites - herb and applewood crumbed flat cap mushrooms with garlic ‘butter’ fries and a red wine jus for £17.95 This truly is the perfect pairing with beer so I’ m off to enjoy another steak and a Mango on the Run! Bought a beer tasting voucher for my fiancé's Christmas present and was quite disappointed. There was little to no information about the beers- we were handed a booklet. The voucher stated " a guided history of beer and innis and gunn" We didn't get this. After the 4th beer (should have got 6) my fiance had to go to the bar to request the next beer and was questioned by the bar staff and asked " are you sure it was 6" and basically asked him to prove it. He was given the 5th beer and wasn't even told what it was or anything about it. Not the point of a beer tasting. We could have asked for information about the beers but we didnt feel welcomed and felt as if we were an inconvenience. After this we left as we had enough. The bar staff appeared more bothered with his laptop than paying customers. Won't be coming back and thoroughly disappointed after looking forward to this for a while.

***Well done. Upped to 5 stars. The Islay whisky infused ale is OUTSTANDING. And a full on decent German Oktoberfest! And then some Vault City localised loveliness. Add on great bar service. Kerching. 5 stars.***Top end of four stars. Docked a star because no real ale and clearly foody. This said, does what it does very well i.e totally copy ah hem another well known very large Scottish 'craft' brewer. Ironic sign saying ' Be you. Be Original. This pub is not. However, really fab range of keg and the I&G beers fresh as a daisy with lovely barrel age backdrop. Great to see decent guest beers (from a wonderful smaller Scottish brewer known for their fruited Berliners).

Love the Innis & Gunn pubs. Always a great pint. Food and service are top notch as well.

We had the steak frites special and it was beautiful. The steak was cooked to perfection and the peppercorn sauce was very tasty. It was so nice that we had a second steak each. The garlic fries were very nice and you could order as many as you wanted. It was the best steak I have had in a while. The staff were very helpful and friendly. I would highly recommend a visit.

Turned up about 30 minutes early for a reservation on a 6 Nations weekend and as we expected had to wait for our table. Couldn’t have waited too long before one of the staff found us at the bar to say our table was ready. Great tasty food. Good selection of local beers (lots of Vault City 😁) and spirits, as well as their own range. Terrific service by all the staff. And rugby on a couple of drop down screens. What’s not to love.

Fake music of people playing live to draw you in, bar staff with equally lame personalities, average beer, line clean required! Know how to charge too. changing table facilities in the loos, instead of more toilets, and you can’t vape indoors - odd set up for a “tap room”

Great place to relax, the beer is good, the rum cocktail was good, the meal simple but effective and plentiful. The server we had was really great and the evening singer was great!

Booked table for 6.30, arrived and no table was free, short 10-15min wait and a small party had left, was right next to door so a bit drafty every time the door opened. Order steak frites for the adults, chicken burger and hot dog for the kids. Starter and drinks came out pretty sharpish, some sort of fried rice ball concoction, was ok nothing to write home about. Mains came out after a short while, decent sized steak and fries considering its unlimited, very heavy on the peppercorn. Not sure if the fries were garlic butter but tasted nice. After finishing the 1st round we waited for staff to come over or even get their attention, nothing for 20 mins so eventually took our own plates up to the bar to order more. 30 mins before the next round came out, had to send the kids away as the website advised kids are only welcome up to 8pm. Second round of steak was not as good as the first, could tell it was rushed as was very poorly presented, steak very rubbery and fries were very hard and overcooked. Had to rush this one as well as the kids were wating in another nearby establishment by themselves. Had high hopes for this place being our first time here and being my pre-birthday meal but was bit disappointed by the service which. Maybe if we had more time and without kids it may be better next time.

Went for the 6N. Decent space to watch the match with good beers on tap. Nice surprise to get some pies at halftime for booking a 6N table.

Friendly and welcoming staff, food was nice, but it was a little cold when it arrived. However, the staff couldn't have been more helpful, and the dish concerned was removed from the bill. The only downside is that the toilets are not accessible for people with mobility issues. there are too many stairs to negotiate!

We went for the beer tasting. Sharon was very friendly and knowledgeable and gave us information on each of the beers. We enjoyed the tasting and would be happy to visit again and recommend to our friends.

Visited at lunchtime during our break in Edinburgh, great atmosphere, beers were delish and so was the food 😋 We had the cauliflower fritters & haggis croquettes. And of course a massive shout out to our host, she was super friendly and very generous, treated us to branded gloves and hat when we mentioned we were on our way to visit the castle, brilliant 🤩🥰

Because of a misunderstanding i got the wrong pie, i already ate a bit before noticing. The staff immediately brought me another pie free of charge and were super friendly. They were super accomodating and friendly. The food was also great.
