We were asked to leave as a group shortly before the live performance. Although there was no nuisance or noise from us. So a really bad picture for the pub

Server was friendly. Bangers and mash were so good. Holyrood pale ale was crisp and refreshing.

The service is very slow. We visited during the off season and the place wasn't too busy but we had to wait 10 mins for the waiter to come to our table, 10 mins for food, 10 mins for the check. The salmon bites were good but small. portion, the truffle fries were stale. Nice looking bar but I don't recommend it when there are so many good places around.

Typical touristy Scottish pub with a hearty whiskey and beer list and a traditional Scottish pub fare menu. The pork scotch egg was decent. It was flavoured nicely although the egg was slightly overcooked for my tastes (practically hard-boiled). The Cullen skink was quite tasty, but as it was my first time trying it, I have no point of comparison about how authentic it is. My friends got the chicken sandwich and the fish and chips. Both enjoyed their meals, although neither considered them outstanding. The fish n chips seemed to be a rather small portion size, with only a handful of chips. I went all in with the neeps & tatties with haggis. I had no clue what that meant, and I had never tried haggis before. (It always seemed off-putting to me.) However, I'm glad I did. It was a very tasty dish and haggis is not nearly as gross as people had made it sound. It's a luscious sort of ground beef type meat. The sauce was great too. I very enjoyable dish. Again, I have no idea how legit this version is to traditional neeps & tatties, but nevertheless, it was good enough for me. The letdown was the so-called Pimm's Spritz that was advertised on the bar. It was an incredibly over-priced regular spritz. No Pimms should cost £12 ever. Allegedly, it had prosecco, but it honestly just tasted like a Pimms and soda. It had like a slice of lemon and a piece of apple in it that did nothing. It did not contain any of the fruits promised on the sign. That was pretty annoying and misleading. Pimm's is an incredibly cheap liquor so to charge so much for this drink and then skimp on all the fruits was a rip-off. So, all in all, if you're a tourist and you're looking for a decent pub lunch, this will hit the spot. I don't think it's going to rewrite any culinary history books, but it's a solid amount of food for a fairly reasonable price considering the area.

The bangers & mash in Yorkshire pudding was delicious!!

We order vegetarian haggis and we got meat haggis that we only realised after. When this was said to the waitress instead of an apology we had a “you didn’t order the vegetarian “. Not only that, one of our 4 orders was forgotten. Would not recommend

Tried the Haggis on a food tour. Went back on our last night. The service was relaxed and super friendly. That Steak and Kidney Pie. Oh man. Tasty.

Cool pub with a large selection of beer and cider and classic dishes. The food was very tasty and a good portion too. Unfortunately we got a table right at the entrance and so people kept running into our chairs... otherwise everything was great! ;)

After the long climb to the castle, wanting a good pint and meal, George IV provided both. With Scotch eggs, we shared the meat pie. Truly awesome. The muffin on top was 6" wide x 4" tall. Fine phylo, transparent, weighed less than an ounce. Great table service too. Would not hesitate to return.

Cozy bar with a classic selection of dishes. It was nice that classic dishes, such as Yorkshire pudding, were also offered with vegetarian or vegan sausage.

Place could do with a deep clean. There was not just one but a few flies buzzing around our table which made it difficult to eat. The dinnerware still had debris on them and what looks like dishwashing stains. Even the condiment bottles had sauces all around them and could do with a wipe-down. Food itself was fine however.

I didn’t feel like a full meal so I opted for two starters. The halloumi fires with sweet chilli sauce which were excellent and hit the spot. The scotch egg was extremely well presented and looked amazing. I couldn’t work out what the meat was supposed to be around the egg, it was uneven and lacked any real flavour to it. More on the menu to try and the others enjoyed all of their food.

Typical Scottish pub, it has large and beautiful interiors, all in wood and mirrors. The service is friendly and quite fast. The choice on the menu is not very wide, but the dishes are still tasty. Prices are medium-high, with not very generous portions. Even the drinks are not low prices, the pints of cider and beer are certainly not among the cheapest in the city, but the pub is in the center and this is certainly the price to pay. We tried smoked salmon canapés with cheese and caper mousse, ciabatta with fresh salmon and chips, chocolate cheesecake with raspberry sauce and crème anglaise. Everything was good, but for the dessert the portion was really small and the price was too high.

We ordered 2 main meals my meal arrived first and my wife's arrived about 8 minutes later,she ordered chips and got mash my chips were cold.we finished our meal and asked for a sweet menu which was only given to us after asking a second time but order was never taken after 15 minutes of waiting we decided to pay for our meals and go my wife went outside while I took out my wallet to go and pay at that point a waitress came over and said you haven't paid I said I know that is why I have my wallet out and going to the bar.will definitely not be going to this pub again.

Asked the affable waiter about the menu that mentions ‘locally caught haggis’ and he gave us a daft story about how they are endangered in Scotland. 🤣 He must have thought American visitors can’t use Google… The Cullen skink had some flavor but not much evidence of smoked haddock. My wife had the steak pie which was great! The pub has a nice interior and friendly (if misinforming) waitstaff. Food came out quickly.

Despite the festival month, we got a place without a reservation. Nice service that also dealt with the language barriers very well. Fast service, drinks and food were served quickly. The first waitress said all places are occupied. Second waitress moves a table and brings a second chair and voilà. So easy sometimes. Burger was good and beer was cold. A little too less salad, but ok. Recommended.

Food was absolutely delicious and the portions were so filling and hearty. If you’re visiting scotland and want to try traditional Haggis here is the place to go. Definitely on the pricey side for food but you get a good meal and warm atmosphere. Very very good with vegetarian/vegan options, including a traditional vegetarian haggis dish, veggie burger, soup, etc. Going to a pub can always be daunting for vegetarians as many traditional british meals are meaty, but George iv did a really good job here.

Had two lovely meals at George IV while in Edinburgh for the Fringe. Tasty food and extremely friendly and competent waiting staff. Highly recommend!

Lovely place with amazing food and specifically AMAZING chips and a great BBQ sauce. I had BBQ chicken wings, and they were amazing 👏.

We stopped here on a whim whilst passing, and it did not disappoint! When our food arrived, we were so excited to eat it that there were no photo opportunities....the chips (we nicknamed them ships) were amazing! Our food was utterly delicious, the service and atmosphere were great and the price was very reasonable. Thank you for a lovely experience.

Quite a cold pub, that's staff and atmosphere. Not my cup of tea really. Didn't have anything in was just in for a quick pint. Much prefer a warmer pub with a bit of character to it

We only had a drink at the pub yesterday, but decided to come back for the food today because it looked delicious and the atmosphere was really good. We were not disappointed! Everyone’s really friendly and the food tasted really great and fresh. There were many vegetarian options as well.

Our last night at Edinburgh, we visited the bar. Live music and very friendly staff and beautiful atmosphere will be remembered for my next return to Scotland.

Went quite spontaneously to this eatery and was not satisfied. At first we had to wait so long that we almost considered leaving before someone came and took our order. When the food first arrived there was far too much dressing (Caesar salad) and far too many leaves. I'm also pretty sure I got a bit of food poisoning from here. The table was also sticky and there was a high noise level.

The place is beautiful inside, with lots of interesting details. The service was great! As for the food... divine, it's totally worth the price, the burger is huge, juicy, moist. The potatoes are phenomenal. It has a wide variety of drinks if you want to try different ones.

Great bar/restaurant. We had several drinks in this beautiful, movie-worthy location. The servers were super smiley and even became our friends! I highly recommend.

The worst burger I have ever had! Their chicken is inedible. The Mars bar was good, but I guess it's also hard to destroy.

My 1st (new) favorite pub in Edinburgh. Very friendly bartenders who also take the time to give advice. Simply lovingly and authentically furnished. Great live music/vibe. The beer selection is also good. I can only recommend. The kitchen is closed from 10 p.m.

Very nice service, good food and beer

We stopped in for some food on a Saturday afternoon after some sightseeing in Edinburgh. Very tasty and great service. We returned for some live music after watching Paul Weller perform at the castle and had a great time. No problem getting served and a cracking atmosphere. Will definitely return on our next trip to Edinburgh.

Cosy bar with ample seats. Serving decent comfort food. Located slightly off the busy area so it's nice pop in for a pint to get away from the crowd.

Very good atmosphere and flexible staff regarding children. They have to leave the premises at 8 p.m., which makes a dinner for French people with minors complicated. The restaurant is quite tolerant

We were there twice. The first time was good, the second time was underground. The hamburger bun was burnt black, the food as a whole was not seasoned, we sat in front of our plates for a full half hour, which were not cleared away and a fixed “service fee” was then charged for this. Overall, not a royal achievement!

If I could give it no stars I would. The service is absolutely terrible. Worst in Edinburgh.

Very good place. Near the Library on the main street. A very traditional place, special for tourism and very well attended. The menu is average and the prices are a little high for the dishes. The drinks have the prices of the place since there is a bit of agreement on that. It is a place to walk from Glassermarket just 200 meters which is where it begins. Variety of drinks and many beers. The staff is attentive and helps you choose if you don't understand the dishes.

We stopped here for late afternoon meal and beer. We tried fish and chips and also vegeterian haggis. They were both delicious. Also service is really quick for this kind of large bar. They have many draft beer options as well. İt is a really nice pub to enjoy food beer and the people passing by this crowded street. Also they are giving Europe football matches on the screens which is important nowadays.

We ended up in this bar by chance while looking for food. Food was excellent. We couldn't get away and sat there for probably 4 hours. When the weather is nice you can sit outside, there are a few places available. Otherwise, stay in. Also highly recommended!

Absolutely amazing pub, being a Yorkshireman I appreciate a good pub with good ale, food, and atmosphere, to find such a pub in the heart of Edinburgh is simply phenomenal, just fantastic.

The food!!! Holy wow. We had the veggie haggis, vegan fish and chips and a side salad. Clean plates at the end. Delicious sauces for the food, and the “fish” was spiced perfectly and battered to utter crisp wonder. Loved our dinner, and would for sure go back. - they have some desserts we just missed ordering as the kitchen closed. Go for it! :)

Wanting food/drinks for 4, got sat at a table but the only menu at the table was for wine. No server came round so asked bartender for menus. He didn’t believe that we were missing menus but on my 3rd insistence he got me some. Asked him if we order at bar he said no, it’s table service. Waited 30 minutes and watched 3 waitresses walk around but no one ever came over to us. Service 0/5

Amazing atmosphere and good music, their beer is great

Family of 4 and a dog. Really enjoyed our food and drinks here. Pie of the week was jam packed with melt in the mouth steak.husband had chicken stuffed with haggis, he said it was really nice. Kids had chicken goujons. We all cleared our plates, then had a deep fried Mars bar between us to try, very good 👍

Good atmosphere. Good bar, but we ordered food and they included an outrageous service charge onto the bill for serving pub food! We declined to pay this. This is the UK where tip culture exists if the service is good. Not to be included for the sake of it as per America. I won’t go again.

After a rainy afternoon, we luckily found a table for two in this bar. It was cozy and the ambiance was really nice. The food was good for the prices. Only the staff member (female, black hair) gave us an uncomfortable feeling. Perhaps it was because we were tourists, because she was very friendly and courteous to the other tables with locals. Because of this, we decided to leave earlier. And although we left a tip for the staff (5% on top of the service charge), we received neither a thank you nor a goodbye. Apart from that, the bar was very nice and the other staff member who showed us to our table was friendly.

Walk along the street looking for a nice drinking n dining place, chance upon and decided to give this pub a try. No regrets. A vibrant pub. Staffs are friendly and attentive. Food, Beer, Wine is good.
