Lovely food, nice beers on tap and a great location.

Only dropped in for one drink on our tour around Edinburgh. Very nice traditional old Edinburgh bar, good old fashioned decor with plenty of room to have a drink. We never had anything to eat, so we can't comment on the food. The servers were polite, prompt and well presented.

Front of house we were told to sit down as it's table service. The person that "greeted" us looked like she didn't want to be there and made us feel like we were wasting her time. Got on and ordered some chips and drinks. Took a while and really not sure why as they (chips) had definitely been cooked a few times, as in full of oil (nasty) and hard as nails (amazing🤢 ) Didn't want to risk moaning as I didn't want to be faced with the woman that had a face of thunder and been sucking on way too many lemons? So drank up and left. A smile costs nothing!

Fantastic fish and chips, good beer and delicious egg haggie. The pub is in a good place, and it’s a nice place to drink something and eat local scottish meal. Good pub ti ser the football and rugby matches. I suggest it to stay for an hour and drinks beers.

Try the Haggis meal, but do it proper with all the flavors together! Fish and chips were great and 🥧

Efficient service, warm place, and good food with hearty portion. Had a really wonderful Guinness Stout and bangers and mash with a side of haggis. My first try of haggis and they surely convinced me that its a delicious food.

We stopped casually for drinks and ended up having dinner there. I got a Mac and cheese with chicken, which was pretty yummy. Overall - Good food, good music and very friendly waiters.

Very central Scottish pub, just 100 m from the Royal Mile, with a very pleasant atmosphere, to eat and drink, listen to music and, if you want, there is also a separate room to watch sports. Ideal for groups of friends. Mostly local audience, of all ages. Highly recommended, we liked it a lot.

Excellent pub in the old town. I visited with friends and family over the Christmas break and had a great time. Staff were great, and the food was pretty good, too. Can get quite busy in the evenings.

Stumbled upon this pub when looking for somewhere to watch the rugby . Had a very enjoyable day in a friendly atmosphere. The food and service were excellent. Would definitely return .

Very pleasant, quiet atmosphere and authentic Scottish pub decor. We didn't eat anything, we just had a few pints and spent some time at prices within the normal range for Edinburgh.

We went there to eat and watch the Scotland France match (great availability: reservation made by email the day before). Great atmosphere, large selection of beers, fair prices and excellent fries. The ground steak of the burger meh.

Food and drinks were great very quick to be seated and weren't waiting ages to get food. Service was good but wasn't great. Hard to get the attention of some of the staff. All in all pretty good. The decor is pretty cool

We were having a nice time having some beers, but we noticed the staff being very rude to some other customers who accidentaly spilled some beer. While the staff members were standing next to the table, not taking any action. And when one of the girls came to ask for a cloth to clean the table they made a joke about them instead of offering help. After the girls said they didnt like their tone or service, the guy said it was an 'inside joke'. I never think its good to treat customers as a joke, especially not in the middle of the pub. I felt pity for the girls not being treated with respect. It was a pity the service charge was included in the bill.. Will definitely not recommend.

Went to George IV on Christmas Eve and had a fabulous lunch. The venue was stylish, atmospheric, and the food fantastic. Our family of four were all delighted with our food and drink choices, both in portion, taste and selection! There was a small issue which was made bigger by a very defensive waitress who wanted to talk more than listen. After paying the bill and thinking it seemed a bit high for what we ordered, I then notice on the receipt a 10% service charge. When questioned, our waitress got very defensive citing a small sign by the door when you walk in that states that all bills will include an optional 10% service charge. On a cold rainy day when you hurry to get in and to find a seat, this sign is easily missed. I explained that I think this is sneaky tactic to increase profits and that they should point this out when paying and make clear that it is optional to guests before paying the tab. The bill doesn’t say it is optional and no one drew attention to it. She offered to refund it but that wasn’t the point, I was happy to pay it, my issue stood with the principal of the matter, which was the discreet nature of adding it to the bill and making no mention of it. That being said, I’d happily return but would prefer a conversation remain friendly and cordial, without the defensiveness.

The place is fine, but the music is so bad, and it's so loud that you can't speak.

All good except the desserts. The sticky toffee was dried (obviously it wasn't homemade) The mars bar was fried in the same oil than fish and chips (obviously, it tasted like fish)

Absolutamente recomendable para disfrutar del ambiente y la gastronomía típica de Edimburgo. Fuimos a cenar y pedimos dos entrantes, uno de ellos el haggis y el huevo escocés, luego seguimos con dos Highland Chicken que estaban de locos! Y de postre las barras de Mars rebozadas, típicas de la ciudad, otra locura. El ambiente es acogedor y muy agradable y el personal, encantador. ¡Un acierto en Edimburgo!

Comimos una hamburguesa doble con beicon, cebolla y más cosas, super alta, no sabíamos como comerla jaja. Estaba buenísima. Y el sitio muy chulo. Muy grande y espacioso, se podría ir con niños incluso, no se está apretado como en otros pubs.

Cheesebord is a joke £20 for cheapest cheese and stinks. Other main also terrible. Looks like people on the kitchen drinking all day with the customers. Mouses everywhere. Probably food was fresh but last year.

Popped in for a few pints. I was served by Grace. She was great craic and serverd the perfect pint of Guinness. Couldn't recommend more.

Worst lunch ever. Mozarella sandwich was one fat chunk of massive cheese, brie bacon was awful and covered with sea of chili sauce. Paid full price even after complaint, so service non existent. Never again this place.

Although very busy on a Friday evening, the staff were amazing - helpful in getting more seats when our group was larger than anticipated, very quick service and great food. The waiting staff were good humoured, pleasant and efficient, food and drinks came quickly, altogether a great experience. Thanks!

Frankly, the 1 star reviews are baffling. I've been in here many times. For a couple of beers or for the food and I'm always greeted with a warm welcome. It's a busy bar, for sure. But it only adds to the atmosphere as you hear the sound of people laughing talking and having a good time. They sell pub grub ( as you would expect ) and its always been delicious. Whenever I'm up that side of town I make sure I pop in. It's a great pub and I wouldn't hesitate to recommend it to anyone.

Disgusting staff very unprofessiona.I would not recommend this bar to anyone. Took 90 minutes to deliver burnt food, and a 10% service charge is automatically added to the bill - the service is awful, one particular waitress had an awful service. not worth the money and the wait 👎.Unbelievable go elsewhere!!! McDonald might be a better option. This place is terrible

It would have been a 5 overall just based on food (2 of us are vegetarian and there were some awesome options for us like vegan fish and chips and the veggie haggis) and atmosphere but they brought the wrong dish to my husband, forgot to bring the right one and then tried to charge us for it.

Accogliente! Pub in centro, con desing accogliente e atmosfera leggera. Birre molto buone (ne abbiamo provata una ipa e una ai frutti di bosco). I camerieri davvero gentili e disponibili. Unica pecca forse era la musica molto alta, ma si riusciva comunque a conversare alzando la voce.

Brilliant place. Loads attentive staff. (One bloke looked a bit sad/sullen but never know reason why) A talented singer came on at 9 pm. Great song choices and voice. Don't normally booze during week, and thought this would do the trick for a wee catch-up with friend. Do visit ..

This place never fails to deliver, I always include a visit here, when coming to visit my daughter who lives around the corner, always busy, but that creates a lovely atmosphere, especially at night, the staff are just the right amount of attentive, service is first class, and the food is amazing, good traditional pub grub, of which the Haggis, neeps and tatties is my go to dish, it is just amazing, but the whole experience is highly recommended.

Food was amazing, Your standard pub grub but done right! Staff were so nice and polite. our dogs got lots of fuss and attention. The haggis spring rolls were spot 👌. If we are in Edinburgh in the future we will be making a return.

I've not actually eaten here yet, but anything I've seen has looked lovely. But it's just a really nice bar, with a great atmosphere and great music too
