Terrific location for keswick, been many many times and we'll be back again. Make sure to book parking under the hotel though

Painfully slow service. Forgot the coffee we ordered. Toast came out 15 minutes before the breakfast which also took painfully long to arrive. And they were not busy in the slightest. There was only 1 other family in when we arrived and they had just received their food. The breakfast itself was ok. But the worst Cumberland sausage I've ever had. Get better from Tesco. Which was rather poor considering where we are. For the price I expected at least a much better service and would have expected a half decent Cumberland sausage. Very disappointed. The family here when we arrived was also complaining about the slow service. And another couple who arrived. Left after waiting to order for 10 minutes. I would not recommend this place.

My daughter and I and grandson were visiting Keswick and were staying a few miles away from Keswick town centre. It was our final day so we visited Keswick and came across the Inn in the Square. We ordered breakfast and all arrived exactly to our wishes and we all had a great time. I cannot thank the staff enough as they were attentive to our needs yet unobtrusive. If I could score the meal, service and atmosphere would give it a 12. Unfortunately I can only rate it a ten but it’s a 12 anyway from us 👍👍👍

Really nice hotel, stayed for one night, great location, staff very good and polite. Room nice could maybe do with a fridge, had a meal in the restaurant, good food and service, wine was only let down, poor bottle of red in my opinion, breckfast very good, went for the full Cumbria very nice, all in all very pleased and will return,

Can't fault it. Rooms were cosy but very nice and the food is excellent.

Went in for a coffee yesterday. Service was abysmal - they obviously take payment first to avoid you leaving in frustration. After 25 - 20 minutes out coffees arrived. My wife's latte was just over half full and incredibly weak - it seemed as though they missed a shot of coffee out. My own americano was very bitter,- think cheap Spanish coffee bitter. Will find somewhere else in the future.

me and my boyfriend come here for sunday lunch almost every week and have done for the last 2 years or so. the food is immaculate, the atmosphere is brilliant and the restaurant is always very clean (haven’t stayed in a room so can’t comment on that). however, recently the staff have been very rude and it seems like they don’t want to be there. no manners and they basically just slammed the food down infront of our faces and walked away, it seems like i am a burden to the waitresses for even asking to order a dessert! this is a shame, i think we will have to find somewhere else to go from now on with better service from the waitresses.

Stayed 3 nights. Lovely Herdwick sheep on the wall by the bed. Shame about the carpet being frayed between the bedroom and bathroom. Could be a tripping hazard. Noise from air vents can be heard when the kitchen starts

Nice functional rooms but very hot in the rooms when we got there despite being mid February. Breakfast was tasty with good options however serving staff are a little over enthusiastic with plate clearing, clearing plates while people were still eating (and robbing me of the opportunity to steal my boyfriends hash browns). Location is stunning and the shower was really high quality for a hotel

We came to the inn on the square to use a voucher I got for my birthday. We were greeted by a friendly gentleman who then seated us. Then , another server came over to get our drinks orders. He was very abrupt and said drinks pls. He brought them and then asked for “main pls” , so I then said could I please get the beef burger but without cheese ( as some cheeses just don’t agree with me) and he then sarcastically replied with so a cheeseburger with no cheese and laughed. It made me and my mother feel uncomfortable as we felt almost stupid for asking. He then asked where we were from and we said from Cumbria and he said no idea! His name tag was “Dragos”. The food however was very nice and the other server who welcomed us couldn’t do enough.

Possibly the best service & food from any hotel I've stayed in! Staff were amazing & made us feel very welcome. Only stayed one night at the end of a business trip & so glad we chose this hotel.

We stayed over Christmas on their festive package. The food and service was fantastic! Staff were friendly and accommodating and made for a great Christmas experience away from home. I was in a single room which was small and also very warm. There was a fan in the room thankfully which was needed at night, even in December as the windows didn't open far enough to offer any fresh air. However, it was comfy, clean and up to standard otherwise.

I had the most delicious chicken burger I’ve ever tasted at The Inn on the Square in Keswick! The food was fantastic, and the staff were incredibly friendly, making for a really enjoyable evening. The atmosphere was warm and welcoming, and I can’t wait to return. Highly recommend!

Stunning hotel, but extremely loud in the rooms at the front of the hotel overlooking the square which is a shame as the rooms are beautiful. Hopefully this is just a Saturday night thing. Otherwise a fantastic hotel

Had a lovely meal. Care to detail was impressive. Drinks cheaper than surrounding pubs too. Would seriously recommend to all.

Can't comment on the room as I haven’t stayed here. The hotel itself is beautiful but the staff are miserable and speak to you like they can’t be bothered to be there! We went for a meal for my mother in laws 60th last week. We were early and explained to the lady on the main desk who had an attitude from the start but the table was ready so we were able to get seated. No one asked if we wanted some beverages (except table water) until the time of the booking and it took a further 20 minutes to be served only after I had to ask where the drinks were (my brother in law actually went to the bar because he was sick of waiting) The staff were quite frankly miserable and after repeating my food order twice, it was still incorrect. We didn’t bother asking for a second round of drinks and went to the bar which was far quicker service! Additionally my husband called prior to the booking to see if we could pay for a birthday desert for my mother in law. We were assured this would happen and it was even on the booking sheet at the entrance to the restaurant BUT not surprisingly there was no desert and no happy birthday! The food was average. Honestly wouldn’t recommend this place for food due to the severe lack of interest from the staff and severely over priced for the experience.

The Inn on the square is a beautiful spacious building covering five floors. The rooms are well appointed and cleaned to a high standard. There are different types of rooms to choose from. Such as rooms facing the town square or Herdwick rooms facing Skiddaw mountain. There's a steak restaurant and two bars onsite. The hotel is dog friendly and as suggested by the name, right on the main square, providing plenty of shops, restaurants and pubs within strolling distance.

Whilst on holiday, booked an evening meal to celebrate my wife’s birthday and had a superb faultless meal to be fair. Great service by Beth, attentive but not over the top. We both ordered Ribeye steaks (£33) and they were of superb quality cooked exactly to our liking. The sides (£6 each extra) were also of very good quality. Overall an excellent experience and would certainly recommend if you like an excellent steak.

I've given 5 stars on all points even though we had a problem with the room (see later in the review). We booked a three day break at the Inn on the Square. The hotel is in a fantastic location, we parked on the public car park to the rear of the building which the hotel gave us a discount for so worked out at £7 per day and you can enter the hotel from the rear entrance from the car park. We had room 108 a lovely large room, big bed, tea and coffee, two chairs and a small coffee table. The bathroom was big with the biggest best shower we've ever experienced, it was powerful and the water was always nice and hot. We loved the room bar one issue, there was some kind of air conditioning unit or something to do with the kitchen perhaps which ran on and off continually through the night outside in the alleyway. The first night wasn't so bad as it was not hot so we didn't need to open the windows but on the second and third nights we got hardly any sleep at all as the weather was warmer and the room was way too hot. To cool the room down, we opened the bedroom door so we got a draft coming through from the open windows in the corridor. Breakfast was good and waiter Dragos was an absolute star. They had a variety of vegan plant milks, vegan margarine, did a great vegan cooked breakfast and porridge, perfect before walking the fells. All in all we loved Inn on the Square and will definitely return but next time we will be asking for a different room well away from that side of the building and the noisy unit.

Will definitely stay again but I'll make sure there are no stairs involved next time.

We had a great time at this hotel. Food was very good. Staff were very friendly and attentive. Room was beautiful. Ideally situated in the centre of town.

Actually location is a six star. Right on the main street. Nice room (needs hooks for wet coats).
