The wife and I with our dog stayed here for two nights in a family room. After easily parking up in the pub carpark we entered the Cashmoor Inn and were met by a very pleasant and helpful young lady who then showed us to our room. The room itself was large and airy with a decent size double bed & again a decent size single bed. The bedding sheets were clean and fresh accompanied by a very warm and comfortable duvet. The beds were a little hard for us but still fair. The en-suite was very acceptable with a good hot shower with decent pressure. The clean white large fluffy & assorted towels were very good. Remember this is a pub/inn and not the Savoy. Our room overlooked the busy A road but this is explained on their website so you must expect heavy traffic at anytime - the flow of traffic does subside considerably later into the night but not completely. Our room had tea/coffee making facilities and these were topped up as required. A small but effective tv with decent reception. Decent size wardrobe and ample drawer stowage so you could “spread” your kit around. Plug sockets by double and single bed. The pub itself was friendly and used by the locals - a very good atmosphere indeed and so very dog friendly. The beer I had was hand pulled and Neil the owner knew how to look after his cellar. The wife was also very happy with the cider on offer. We dined in the pub side of the Inn. The restaurant looked nice and inviting but we enjoyed the bar area that much and having the dog with us it made it a no brainer to have our meal near the bar. Both our meals were prepared fresh and they were marvellous and at a fantastic price - well done indeed. Breakfast was fab, full English and all that jazz. Neil the proprietor was very approachable and flexible, meeting our needs as required. He and his daughter Thia (no idea if I’ve spelt that right so apologies for my ignorance) were such nice people and we can only give them praise. There is also a very large beer garden which is child & dog friendly, there is a climbing frame (probably not for adults!) and ample seating - dogs must be kept on a lead in the garden which is fair enough. You have to remember, this is a pub, and it looks after it’s locals, yes it may need a little freshening up here and there but somehow this adds to its charm. This is a good place & excellent value for money. Great food, great ale and great people - long may it last.

Menu sounded lovely but this pub is old & tired and needs gutting. Soup was luke warm served with cheap thick slice white bread and margarine no choice or white or brown bread. Prawn cocktail £4.95 hardly any prawns on a few lettuce leaves. Would not recommend very tatty inside and tasteless food. Please don’t waste your time and money we won’t be returning surprised it’s still open. Best thing was the big car park

We often come here because we find the fish & chips are very good and taste so fresh. You are allowed to take your dog in the bar area and eat.

Next to zero character, average beers that you can buy anywhere. three locals sat around the bar staring as you walk in. we decided to sit outside (Despite it being late summer and a bit cold!) the garden desperately needs some TLC. We probably spent 20 mins here, and that was longer than ideal.. Given the location and the look from the road it was very disappointing.

Went for lunch here last week and I can say that I have never had such appalling food in a long time. To start my partner had the soup which he thought had come straight from the microwave it was accompanied by a slice of doughy bread with no butter , I had the prawn cocktail but they were not prawns but undersized shrimps - no brown bread or lemon. The mains were no better partner had the curry that came with mango chutney and a popadom that was dripping with grease I had the steak which even though I asked for it to be cooked medium it arrived well done and was dry and tough, this came with half a dozen chips and a few frozen peas All in all a really foul meal and We won’t be returning

Service is very pleasant Menu is basic, The restaurant seems to concentrate on Sunday lunches rather than weekday diners Food is 'OK", all ingredients are fresh and it is home cooked but the standard is very basic. Tables are left dirty after guests leave, one has to find a table that is clean and still laid out. the place is dated

We came here with friends as we try the place out every time it has changed hands over the last 15 years. The only other diners were a French family eating pizza. We opted for prawn salad, very average, and then 3 of us had steak. Of these 2 were the wrong order and had to be redone, and mine had no peas, clearly shown on the menu. Add to this we had to ask for cutlery. All the delays meant that our first diner's plate had gone cold. The staff did not think about this. All in all we would have to say that the food was good value for money, however, the staff come across as being well below par. The service was very slow (with only 2 tables of 10 occupied?) meals were not delivered as ordered and we had to ask for cutlery salt and pepper. The place definitely has potential but there is a huge need for improvement.

Went here with my family in the summer and 3 of us ordered the fresh home made pizza. Genuinely hands down the best pizza we've ever had and my dad is 62 and has had his fair share of pizza. Also the outside play area is brilliant. Although they could probably keep on top of the weeding as my son got stung by stinging nettles.

Arrived on a very wet and cold night by motorcycle, landlord more than happy to supply us with papertowels and water to wash the bike bags. Food basic pub grub and perfectly acceptable and a good local ale. ( hand pulled). We did not see the place at its best it being a wet and cold weekday evening in October with only a few other people about. In the morning the breakfast was top quality-no cheap sausages here and yet another bucket of hot water and a cloth to wash over the very dirt bike. A good port in a storm.

This establishment has reverted to its original name of "The Cashmoor" and has gone through more than its fair share of landlords. However, the current landlord and his wife are doing a fantastic job of returning this local favourite to its former glory. They now have an enclosed beer garden with a play park for the kids. They even have rabbits and guinea pigs! Inside, the restaurant is cosy and the pub is typical English and very welcoming. All the staff including the landlord and landlady are very friendly and efficient. The food is typical pub fare and is wholesome and freshly prepared. Prices are average. Being on the A354 between Salisbury and Blandford, it is well worth a visit. Oh, and it's also a thriving B&B!

Food was uninviting and tasted dreadful. Staff very nice though. What a shame there is no atmosphere in the restaurant as from outside it looks very clean, tidy and inviting.

very pleasant host and surroundings were adequate. however, the food was supposed to be all cooked from scratch/homemade and would therefore take about 20 minutes. it took an hour at least and the chips were clearly out of a packet, we had a tiny piece of broccoli and a beef and ale 'pie' which was ok. the girls had chicken nuggets and chips (everything came with chips) - I expected nice pieces of chicken made into nuggets like we've had elsewhere, but it was the usual birds eye style, def not homemade, and chips. no veg. our table was about to fall apart and the landlord thought it was funny. drinks spilling etc. every table was waiting ages and for some, meals were coming out so far apart that the first lucky eater had finished long before the last were served.

We stopped here to eat as we were in the area although we were a little worried as the pub looked a little shabby and there was no-one else was eating. The bar staff initially weren't sure if we'd be able to eat and we had a mix up with drinks to start.Once we were able to order, there was a short wait but it was well worth it.We were brought complimentary bread sticks, something you don't always get in a pub, and our two 5 year olds were made very welcome. We had the Fully Loaded Burgers and and the kids had chicken fingers. The burgers were excellent, complimented with crunchy, fluffy chips and the chicken fingers were superb, made with a special Japanese style coating which were wolfed down, and having had a taste were possibly the best "chicken goujon type things" I've ever tasted. The children had ice cream for dessert delivered in a 'special container' (you'll have to go to find out) which they loved.Speaking to the chef/landlord afterwards he advised they had taken over recently and the kitchen had only been open a couple of weeks. On this evidence they have no problems with the food, the staff were welcoming and polite, and once the newer staff learn the ropes they should be onto a winner. We'll be back next time we're in the area.

I have been to this pub 3 times now, they have always had a lunch deal 2 mains for £12 which is very reasonable. The food is good, ok not outstanding but very good for the price. This lunch was a reward for the 3 young adults with learning difficulties I tutor. They love it here and the price makes it affordable for us to do this.A limited range of food but for lunch it is more than acceptable. The puddings were the highlight of this lunch.I look forward to going back.

Lets do the BAD bit first for a change ......Its to far from my house to use as my local !!!! gutted!! Right that's that out the way.My partner and i called in for a meal on our way home from a days shopping in Dortchester. The waitress was so polite and curitious she had our drinks on the table before i could take my coat off ( ice cold Desperado) lovely, we ordered ham, eggs and chips WOW !! the ham melted in your mouth and the chips were to die for , i spent half my time people watching and food watching to see what else i could have missed out on it all looked so lovely.Nothing was to much trouble and i cant understand why the other reviews are slating this great little country pub we had great service, wonderful food , lovely atmosphere and the place was very clean and tidy, this just goes to show that sometimes you need to not read into the reviews to much and go and see for yourself . In this case im so glad we did and we will stop off here more often to enjoy a very very nice english pub.

We walked in to an empty restaurant and asked for a table for 9 was told they would have to see if there was any availability. At this point the locals were pulling faces etc at the children being in there. To be fair the children wanted to play on the pool table but were told it was against the law which is fine. However, the people in there pulled their faces at the children being there...BIG mistake!! we then heard the landlady said to the bar staff 'Check the notes'. We had popped out from the Dorset Steam Fair to have a nice meal and a few drinks. NOT the reception we expected!!We told them we were not made to feel welcome and left only to over hear someone say they wont get food anywhere else. Well we did it was excellent and they were brilliant with the kids (even the dog entertained them) YOUR loss was someone else's gain!!

We stopped off at this pub en route to a B&B near Dorchester. We arrived at 19.40 and a table was found for us. We were told that there might be a short wait for the food. We ordered drinks immediately and took menus. It was only 10 minutes after that that our order was taken (i.e. 19.50). We had two drinks each whilst waiting and ..... finally ..... the food arrived at 20.50. Was it worth waiting for ? Well, we had only ordered fish and chips and bubble + squeak and it was OK but nothing special. Presumably the fish had been freshly caught to order in Poole Harbour and rushed to the pub by courier.Apology ? Well, just about but not the 'drink on the house' that a previous guest appears to have been offered for a similar inconvenience. Needless to say, we did not wait around for a dessert !

It is so difficult these days to find pubs that are open at the beginning of the week and which have a decent menu and the White Lion has both! This was one of the best meals we have had in the area and the place was really busy, even on a Tuesday lunchtime. The menu had a good selection and we had the salmon and the home made steak and red pie which were both really nice, followed by an orange and marmalade pudding with Drambuie custard. Very reasonable prices too. The pub itself is very old and quirky with low ceilings and a beautiful beer garden and is dog friendly. We’ll definitely be back and look forward too to enjoying the garden in the better weather!
