In these difficult times we thought we would treat ourselves to a takeaway. We had been told that the Lal Bagh was very good but as we didn't know the town too well we asked a local where it was. They told us that Lal Bagh was a bit of a walk from where we had parked and that the Indian Village was just around the corner and they said it was also good, sadly the meal was very disappointing. The mains and the rice were far too salty to a point where you could barely taste the flavours, both the mains were very thin, very similar base and taste. On a plus side the chicken pieces, although small, were of good quality. Considering it was £34 for two mains, two rice and one nan bread, they hadn't even included a couple of complimentary poppadums' or salad, which we always receive in all the 'other' Indian restaurants we use. Sadly we won't be returning but will definitely try Lal Bagh next time.

Went here for the first time, highly recommended by friends. Yes the food was lovely, but and a big but,the owner of this establishment should actually learn some manners and respect for his paying customers,it's a terrible shame that a business is let down by the so called owners attitude and manners.

Hoping you and loved ones are safe during this global pandemic. Last night whilst observing social distancing I collected our first curry for 31 days from the Indian village in Lichfield. The guys have got a really good system worked out to do this for anyone with concerns you will be safe. Liam greeted me at the top of the stairs more than 2m distant and called me when my order was ready to collect. My wife and I really enjoyed the curry and had it cooked “low Salt” which is to our liking. Many thanks to guys there and stay safe. Barry & Lisa

Went here last Sunday , from the welcome to the food the evening was fabulous . My husband had chicken Tikka as usual which he said was great. I had my favourite Scallops but asked for a bigger portion for my main as it’s only on the menu as a starter. Everyone should try this once in their life it’s absolutely delicious. The sauce is to die for. What a wonderful evening , will be back next week ! 10/10

I went with a group of 4 people for a nice Saturday meal. The service was little slow at the start but the staff were fairly pleasant and considering it was a Saturday night and one of the staff was new, they did well. The portions was a good size and included Chicken Pakora, Tandoori Fish and I had mixed starter although I could not tell they was any monkfish, it was nice, the Shish Kebab was a good size and the Chicken was good. The mains came out and none of us were disappointed, I went for the Lamb Ceylon dish and I enjoyed it and the heat was just right. The Pasanda looked nice too and the Prawns on one of dishes looked very delicious The rice especially the Pea Pilau rice was lovely and the Nans were good especially the Cheese Nan Overall it was a good meal and the restaurant well ran, once it got moving. The manager seemed friendly and mucked in when required. The bill was fairly reasonable and I would come here again.

Friends took us to this delightful restaurant. We have been avid consumers of Indian food over many years and this was the best food we have experienced by far. Not only that, but the staff were exceptional too. The warmest of greetings was given and that standard was sustained until we left later in the evening. Nothing was too much trouble. The four of us mostly had different dishes and everyone was delighted with what they chose. I had a wonderful paneer dish to start with and the flavour lent to what can be a pretty tasteless item in the absence of good attention was wonderful. As for the chicken saagwala that followed - I can only say that I’ve not stopped thinking about how good it was since. These dishes can be over greasy, but this one was not. The spices were at a perfect level and mix without overwhelming the main ingredients. I also tasted a little of my husband’s biryani and sauce. Both of those were delicious. Our only wish is that we lived a little closer to Lichfield so that we could visit far more often. However, we shall definitely be back.

Halfway through my prawn curry I found a small very sharp piece of plastic in my mouth. I had to go and find someone to tell about this as no waiters were serving in the restaurant. A waiter quickly whisked the plate away, with the piece of plastic “to show the chef”. My husband finished his dinner, but nobody came near us to apologise or offer replacement etc. In the end I went to the bar/till area and spoke to a man who appeared to be the manager. I asked for the bill and mentioned calmly that I wouldn’t be paying for my curry. Perfectly reasonable since, had I swallowed that piece of plastic, it would probably have lacerated my guts and I would have ended up in hospital. At that comment, this guy became incredibly angry and hostile, telling me, amongst other things that I had a “Bad Attitude”. He was so scary I found myself apologising just to defuse the situation. He then stormed into the kitchen and we could hear him yelling and shouting in there. We then had to wait ages to pay as he wouldn’t serve us and someone else had to be found.

Just had the strangest experience at this restaurant. Had dinner here with my partner and two friends. We are all around 50 and not exactly party animals. Had a lovely meal - really tasty food, really enjoyed it. Then, as we were finishing our drinks the waiter came over to say that we had two minutes to leave as they were going to close (this was about 11:30pm). My partner joked that if they had let us have some poppadoms earlier we would have been away by then. This was a reference to when we arrived and we weren’t allowed to order poppadoms until we had chosen a main course - to be frank, this is a bit weird, but not a big issue.

Visited here on a Saturday night early doors. Pleasant dining room with modern decor. I had the scallops starter which was excellent and extremely good value, for £6 I was only expecting perhaps 3 scallops but it was a large portion of 6 or 7 and the accompanying sauce was lovely. Another diner had the lamb chop main course, she enjoyed this a lot and again was a very generous portion. I particularly liked that they offer a half & half main course where you can choose two different curries and receive them in a dual serving bowl giving you the opportunity to experience two different curries. Will definitely return. Only downside was the draft Indian lager was flat which I think was probably down to the glass it was served in. They replaced however with no fuss.

Unlike our last visit, we asked for two of the meals to be "hot" and this was interpreted as putting a teaspoon of chilli powder to each dish even though chillis are listed as an ingredient, thus making a potentially tasty dish bland unfortunately as you can't taste the spices over chilli powder. Some Indian restaurants need to understand that some people have been eating and cooking authentic Indian food for many years and not wanting a very mild dish is not necessarily a macho challenge. My advise is to ask for added green chillis in the cooking, so you can still taste the flavours but also have the hot bite and fresh chilli flavour. You don't therefore have to eat all the chillis if it is getting a bit too hot.Can take a long time to get served but this is a positive sign if it is cooked freshly.

I struggle with Indian Pakistani and Bangladeshi food as there are differences between cooking styles it makes it harder which dishes to choose as my palate is wired to a particular flavour. I was pleasantly surprised with the vast menu and the option of two different dishes in one.We had a vegan diner with us and they had no problem finding something to eat.The atmosphere is not great it feels a little school canteen but the friendly staff and food makes up for it.It is modern clean and efficient. I long for the old flock wallpaper and Indian music however hard to find these days!Disabled diners may find it difficult as the restaurant is upstairs and I didn't notice a lift? The Location is ideal if you are at the Garrick or doing a pub crawl around town.Overall the quality and authenticity of the food is one of if not the best in Lichfield by my palate.

47 cast and crew had our annual post show curry last night. We preordered, provided a list with costs on for ease. As soon as we arrived we agreed to buy drinks separately from bar for ease when paying at the end. We had a lovely evening following our show at the Garrick Theatre until we were given the bill. We were told to sort it ourselves as last time they were out of pocket!!! We had already provided this by name!! They also said no one leaves until it's paid!! We decided to divide it up in the end and 3 people paid on card, I gave all the cash and it balanced. They then said there was a separate bill underneath not included in the total, so I duly paid a further £20. They were unwelcoming, unhelpful and their customer service was appalling. We spent in excess of £700 within the 2 hours yet when challenged they were nothing short of rude! We live in Lichfield and have heard many similar comments about this but have now wexperienced it personally. I don't recommend this restaurant and will not be visiting it again. Very disappointing

Considering we hadn't booked and it was busy, we were seated in no time and both the service and food was exceptional. There's also a good range of drinks so unlike many of the 'budget' restaurants you don't have to faff about getting drinks from an off license and taking them with you. I have previously eaten at Indian village and been impressed. Each occasion I have ordered chicken tikka masala and asked if they could also add some chilli with no issue. On Friday evening my friends and I decided to order a takeaway from here, so as usual I ask for my dish with chilli. The response was that the chef had point blank refused to add chilli as it would "spoil" the dish. Now I'm not in the hospitality business but I'm pretty sure that if a customer were to make a simple request such as adding an ingredient then I would simply add it, whether I thought it would spoil the dish or not. My friends continued with the order I then had to order the dish from two chefs which actually has the dish on the menu and was one of the best I've had - highly recommend.

Visited Indian village for first time in many months on 12/10 and pleased to see the makeover. Got the usual friendly welcome from jimmy and sai. Don't read the menu ask the guys what they recommend, in 20 + visits I have not eaten off the menu and not been disappointed. My wife is gluten intolerant but again this has not been a problem anytime we have eaten here. This is not the cheapest place in town I'm pleased to say but more than represents value with lovely food good service and a better than good selection of drinks. Over the last four years the boys here have deserved our custom. We eat out less these days but still find the Indian village difficult to beat, try it

We've tried every Indian in town but our first choice is this one. The lamb chops starter is superb. We have tried numerous main courses, all have been excellent. Service is always first class. There seems to be a certain ambiance here that you don't get elsewhere. Will keep going back for more. Try it!!

Came here for dinner with family and friends on a Friday evening. Place was busy but we had booked ahead.Evening started well, with attentive staff and the starter was quick to arrive.A Waiter came to clear the table of empty plates as my Mom was still eating which I found quite rude, he then proceeded to lean over my Mom's plate as she was eating to collect my dirty one.The mains took quite a while to arrive and when they did we had our second hiccup. Instead of calling the dish name and waiting for us to say 'Yes that's here' the Waiter insisted on pointing at us each in turn and asking 'You?' - which again we all found very rude.In terms of the food the dishes were very nice, good portion sizes and the use of hot plates on the table was useful for keeping everything warm throughout the evening.

This particular visit was after a very small wedding ceremony as we have been together so many years and have 3 grown up children. We hadn't made any real plans and didn't book beforehand. The day so far had been perfect - and we knew, when we decided to stay in Lichfield to celebrate, that the Indian Village would not let us down. We didn't tell them we were celebrating as it was a very low key affair indeed, but the service was as attentive as ever, we felt welcomed and the food, as always, was outstanding in quality. This is very often our restaurant of choice and a definite family favourite - they helped make our day special just by providing what they always provide there.

I've been here about eight times and with different people. All say what a great place it is and I find it genuinely bizarre some of the reviews it gets. This is a family run restaurant and the waiters know the food inside out, which cant be said for all places. Never had any complaints about the food and it makes a change to not be fleeced on the price of drinks. Can't wait to return.

We visited on a saturday evening at 9pm, it was rather empty with only two other tables occupied. The starters that we ordered were great, no complaints whatsoever. Sadly this is not what can say about the main course. We ordered dishes that are found on any indian menu, whilst I accept there will be slight variations between chefs/different restaurants, you don't expect HUGE variation. We queried this with the staff and the response was completely unexpected...we were told that the dish (butter chicken) normally contains cheese as that is the indian translation for cheese (Makhani)!!!! we beg to differ along with various translation guides too. The staff did not offer an alternative, or offer to return them to the kitchen, in fact the waiter was blunt and rude!..you could expect this if we had been uncivil etc but we were very polite. Not a place that we will be visiting again, better places nearby with friendly staff.

I bravely asked the Chef to cook whatever he thought would win a competition - meat, fish, vegetarian, hot or mild - and had a fantastic king prawn madras that's making me salivate as I think of it. It took a while to prepare, but we were in no rush, and it was quite hot, but absolutely delicious. Service was fine. I do find the venue a bid odd - the bar area is nice but the eating area is a long thin room with minimal decor and unless there are several others there, feels quite unwelcoming.

We were in Lichfield for a family wedding and fancied a night out before the big day. For a small place, Lichfield has a large number of restaurants so I feel privileged to have chosen Indian Village. It doesn't look like much from the outside as it is upstairs so there's no easy way to have a look inside, but boy is it worth going in! There were two of us and we were given great seats straight away even though it was a busy Thursday. I'm vegetarian and have to say that both my starter and main were delicious. I had a paneer starter that was out of this world and then chana aloo as my main - divine!!!! Husband had chicken then beef and enjoyed it just as much. We got speaking to the lovely waiter and he told us all about the restaurant and how his dad has run it for ten years and worked hard to make it the fantastic place it is today. You can really tell! Also, amazing toilets! Thank you for a wonderful night Indian Village xxx

The food here is really tasty, good value and portion sizes. What's really good is that you can have a lot of dishes as mains or sides. There is a great vegetarian selection. Friendly staff. Undergoing a decor refurb at the moment but don't let that put you off the food is really nice.
