It was really busy tonight both with takeaway orders and people dining in the restaurant. The service was slower because of this and some people were not happy. We could see that the staff were working hard and were in no hurry so didn't mind. When the food arrived it was excellent, sometimes the quality can suffer at busy times but it didn't tonight. Well done to all concerned on a very challenging evening.

When you walk into the restaurant it's like your eyes have been flashed, it's so bright you don't notice the seating area. The service was a bit slow but there was 5 Tables and plenty of takeaway people wanting. The poppadoms was over cooked and not tasty at all. The spiced onion need some spice, mango chutney wasn't sweet but the onion salad was fresh and not red like everything else was.. Our curries were fine, not fantastic, the lamb was a bit tough and the coconut rice was tasteless...The nan bread, a garlic and Peshwary were under cooked but not to much.. Sorry can't recommend the restaurant in Alrewas but, we were warned...

I'll start with the positives. It was mid week and the place wasn't full, so at least we could hear one another. The decor is improved since my last visit and is pleasant enough. I ordered an Apna Special and Chicken Tikka Garlic. The chicken in the Apna Special was Tikka (so the chicken was cooked independently of the curry) and was very hard and dry. The sauce was very hot (temperature-wise, not spice) and the chicken was luke warm. Inconsistent heating (or more specifically, reheating) really disappointed. The chicken tikka was barely okay. I'd recommend having the chef visit local competing businesses (unless all local competition is rubbish, in which case go visit a very successful place) to see what they do differently with their food. Taking shortcuts and using Tikka in all chicken dishes isn't a good move as it gets cooked twice... I'm not a chef but know this. Service was okay. "Thank youuuuuuu!".

On holiday and ordered a takeaway, not sure if the lemon rice was deliberately spiked with a hot chilli or if it was an accident, but after one mouthful I was unable to at anything else 2 glasses of milk later and a fair few spoonful of yoghurt and I recovered with a very sore mouth. The food received had lots of chicken but the sauces were all greasy and tasted the same. The stuffed baked pepper was excellent.

On holiday from London staying at Wychnoor Country Club we chose from the room Folder the Deli Divan to order food to be delivered . The food was AWFUL THE WORST CURRY WE HAVE EVER BEEN SERVED. It was like left overs... sautéed in onions n capsicum with tomato ketchup, the so called chefs special. Further when we tried ordering online -- the response was we do not deliver. However when we called we were told that they do deliver. OUR ORDER TOTALLED £32.10 but were charged £38.ignoring the difference in price we paid as we were tired from an all day holiday outing. How disappointing. We were told by Deli Divan when we complained the usual Bull...Will let manager n chef know etc.

The restaurant came recommended by a friend. Disappointing is an understatement ... Rancid oil left the poppadoms inedible, nice pickles ...which I needed to eat to remove the stale oil taste from my pallete. These were returned, but we refused replacements and was told that these would be taken off our order. Nextl was a lukewarm sheek kebab ...nice flavour but too cold to appreciate. Just when we thought that it couldn't get any worse .. The special Byriani..described as Chicken Tikka, Lamb Tikka and Tiger Prawn...perhaps they should have mentioned that the tiger prawn was lesser spotted!! It was topped with a boiled egg ....boiled until the yoke had a deep green tinge around the outside..yuk! The accompanying sauce was just onions in a bland tomato mix. My husband opted for lamb tikka balti...which needed lots of salt adding to combat the over sweetness. The peshwari nan was delish..and the pilau rice ok. It might have been a bad day in the kitchen ... But I don't believe it was ..as it was a bad day front of house too.... Drinks and rancid poppadoms were given priority over giving us the menu, poppadoms were still on the bill and had to be removed before payment, no one asked if we enjoyed our meal ..even though over half was left ..and we were clearly dissatisfied. Customer service 'nil points'! Overall a massive disapointment. ..which is clearly not an isolated incident as they have a 'special offer' on a Tuesday night if pre-booked which looks like excellent value at £13.95 per person ... but despite this, there were only 4 tables in tonight! I think that speaks for itself. I recommend you give this place a wide swerve.

Had to ask 3 times to order food. Eventually after 45 minutes they took our order, 3 mains, side dishes & 1 starter all to come together. The mains did not arrive and we had to ask 3 more times when our food would arrive. We ordered an onion bhaji to come with the mains but because of the delay we asked them to bring it as a starter instead. After another 20 minute delay the onion bhaji arrived. There was then another delay of 45 minutes before our main course arrived, just as we were about to give up, pay for drinks & starter and leave. Several other tables were waiting for food. As we paid we complained about the delay & poor service and I was told WE were disrespectful and it was out fault that we didn't order for 45 minutes (Despite pointing out to them that we had to ask 3 times to order before someone took our order). We were told that a 2 hour wait for a meal was ok and that it was part of the eating out experience We had an hours drive home & our friend a 2 hour drive back to his hotel as he was visiting from the USA. It wasn't an ' experience out' infact spoilt our evening, we just wanted a decent meal not huge delay. If they had said there would be a delay it might have helped but to say our food was " just coming" several times and it didn't, was unacceptable. They said they had hurried up our order after our 4th complaint only for the next table to complain when our food arrived before theirs, they had been waiting an hour for food too. One table had to change their order to a takeaway as they had to leave after waiting 2 hours for food. I've never been told I'm disrespectful at a restaurant before but there again I don't usually have to ask 4 times where our food was. Won't go back as staff were rude, didn't give an explanation as to the delay, didn't bother to apologise, said the delay was my fault for not ordering and called me disrespectful. Food was good. We used to live in the next village and used Little India. That's where we will go next time. We weren't the only ones to complain.

Having been to the restaurant on several occasions our group of four were looking forward to the occasion. Having had a booking for 7pm we arrived and were duly seated. Our drinks order was taken and arrived promptly, however it was another one and a half hours before our food order was taken and which eventually arrived some two and a half hours after our arrival. In our section of the restaurant there were seven/eight tables all of whom had approximately the same wait for their food, one couple had to take theirs as a “take away” as they couldn’t wait any longer. The food when it did arrive was of an excellent standard, a fabulous meal. Upon payment the short comings were pointed out to a staff member who refused to accept any blame on behalf of the establishment for the delay. It is such a pity that the management have taken the standpoint they have because they certainly have lost the custom of two couples and I’m sure from what other were saying on the night it won’t only be us.

Having eaten here a few times and had a takeaway each Saturday for the past 5 weeks we met here with friends from Lancashire this evening. We had a table booked for 7pm and arrived and were seated by 7pm. It took nearly 2 hours for us to place our order. The food arrived 2 hours 15 minutes after our arrival. We asked why there was such a delay along with all the other customers but no proper explanation was provided. We got our bill and again complained about the terrible service and this was just shrugged off. Delhi Divan, if you have a staffing problem be honest, don’t try to blag it. You have now lost us permanently as customers which is a shame as your food has always been excellent.

We’ve visited Delhi Divan many times over the years, sometimes by car and sometimes by boat as we travel through Alrewas. The food is excellent quality with an extensive menu and friendly, attentive staff and we have never been disappointed with anything we’ve ordered. Tuesday night is banquet night, where you pay a set price (it was £13.95 but may have increased since we last had it) for a starter, main course, a vegetable side dish with rice or naan bread from their a la carte menu. I would definitely recommend this curry house (they also do takeaway).

Absolutely lovely Indian. We came here after a 15 mile hike so we were absolutely ready for some good food and this place totally delivered. The drinks were good, the food was excellent and the service was pretty good too. The decor was stylish and inviting, the music and atmosphere were friendly and welcoming, every waiter that served us was professional and helpful, and the poppadoms, starters and mains were all fantastic. I particularly enjoyed the tandoori duck starter. I've only taken off a star because it was just a touch pricey. We're pretty familiar with Indian restaurants and go to them quite often, and this one just came out a little on the expensive side I thought. That, and I had to ask more than once for some water.

First thing you should know if getting a takeaway for collection- if you phone your order through you get a 10% discount. If you order online you do not get the discount. We had already ordered online then realised the discount hadn’t been applied. On their printed menu it just states 10% off for collection so we were confused. We queried this by phoning up as it wasn’t clear. The response was the online prices were already adjusted by -10%. This wasn’t the case- the online prices were the same as the leaflet. When we collected the order we asked again. The gentleman told us that it was 10% off for collection but not off an online booking. He said he had never had anyone query this before but to be fair we have never come across this before either. Had it been clear we would have phoned our order through rather than do it online but it wasn’t clear at all. In the end they did agree to give us the 10% off and we were grateful for this but could have done without the ‘well if it means that much to you, you can have it’ response. Not the best attitude! OK now onto the food. It was nice and hot and the portions were ok perhaps a but less meat than elsewhere but maybe average. The vindaloo and naga dishes were spicy but lacked in flavour. The vindaloo was quite like gravy granules and a bit glutinous. I needed to add a fair bit of seasoning to get much flavour. The chicken tikka masala was very good as was the peshwari naan. 3/5 is a fair score - we have a few takeaways a month from all over the place as we live on a boat and move around alot. We even keep a spreadsheet of takeaways we have- this was one of the most expensive even with the gratefully received but reluctantly given 10% off.

My wife and I were holidaying on a canal boat, moored overnight in Alrewas. Looking at the local eateries, we found this delightful Indian restaurant a stones throw from where our boat was tied up.The outside of the restaurant looked as if it had probably been a pub in the past, but that’s where the similarity ended, as the appearance changed completely once entering. Interior was fresh, clean and nicely laid out (toilets excellent). We ordered poppadums, drinks and our main food, waiting an average time for the main meal to arrive. My wife chose Tandoori Jhinga Garlic (King prawns marinated with freshly chopped garlic, garnished with fresh coriander). When they arrived they looked amazing as even another table nearby too ours, commented on how delicious they looked. My wife was very pleased as It was all perfectly cooked with the king prawns being abundant and meaty together with the onions etc being tasty. To go with her main dish, my wife had chosen Pilau rice which was perfectly cooked. As for me, I chose a bulk standard Lamb Madras, which is my go to dish in any new Indian restaurant as I feel this is the benchmark of their ability. I was not let down whatsoever, as the meat was tender and melt in the mouth with the sauce probably one the best I’ve ever tasted, being spicy hot. To accompany this I ordered a well done naan which once again was absolutely spot-on.As a side dish, we requested Aloo Chana and although not on the menu, it was not a problem for the restaurant as it came up as good as any I’ve ever tasted.Altogether, we found food to be of the highest qualityI believe that the Restaurant is under new ownership and clearly they are very good at their craft. The best compliment I can pay the Delhi Divan Is that if I lived local to this excellent restaurant, I would find it hard to keep away.

It was a few years ago but found it quite good value and the food was excellent. Just a note. There are never many cars parked in their car park, wether using the restaurant or the takeaway so why the hostility towards anyone using it? Many signs have been addled to it's surrounding border to discourage using their carpark, 'Diners Only' not very community spirited I must say. I was approached by someone quizzing me as to why I was walking over the carpark the other day.I was dropping something off to someone who had parked there for about 5 minutes. The restaurant was closed at the time and it was the only car in the whole carpark! Fortunately the car then went off as i was quizzed. Putting that aside, I wpuld like a few cars parked outside my restaurant as it would look more inviting. An empty car park, even when your open does not encourage business! Just saying.

Absolutely delicious meal! The service was fantastic and food fabulous. We requested a dish that wasn’t on the menu, it was easily accommodated and tasted superb. Thank you Delhi Divan.

Ordered on line delivery tonight. It was so easy to do and to be able to pay for it on line too!Had a confirmation text and email stating 50 mins. Arrived spot on time and the food was fabulous. Recommend the mixed platter (for2) and king prawn Balti . Thank you really enjoyed it .

Pretty disappointed.Booked delivery for 6:30pm - then got a text at 4:40pm saying order will be delivered in 50mins!Then no delivery by 7pm, called restaurant to check driver knew where they were going and said they’d call me back...no call backFood arrived 7:10pm luke warm & dishes were very oily. The Jingha dish was also far too spicy (had many times before) and menu doesn’t even say ‘medium’ let alone ‘hot’.

They need to update website during covid. Check prices, as no discount if you collect, but different on website. Good food, poor communication ... Check website!!!

Really liked everything about this place. As you enter everything is bright and very clean with Indian music playing (surprising and disappointing how often this isn’t the case).Very friendly and helpful staff and a varied menu.In the end it is the food that counts and the food was excellent. For myself, as a vegetarian, there was plenty of choice - the dips with popadoms were exceptional and my vegetable korma with a paneer side dish just as good.EXCELLENT.....

Please be aware, as I have just been caught out. Delhi Devan do a take away service. Their website clearly says 15% discount if you collect. Having returned home, I thought the bill was a bit steep. I rang them and was told that the 15% discount doesn’t apply at the moment. I explained that had I known that, when I had ordered, I would have opted for the free delivery, instead of driving to collect. Not a happy bunny, as two of the meals I ordered said they were served with pilau rice. I queried this on the phone and was told that neither meal was. I therefore ordered two portions of rice only to find that I had double the amount, as both meals were in fact served with pilau rice. I shall not be returning.

Have to echo Stephens comments, we were in there for over three hours. Too many bookings and far too much priority on take always. Staff were embarrassed, but couldn’t do much as the manager had taken too much on.

What is usually a pleasant experience turned in to a nightmare as the restaurant was unable ro deliver an acceptable level of service to a packed house. Staff were willing but too many customers, too many take aways (which were eventually stopped to ease the problem in delivering food) and too many large bookings. Walked out after 1.5 hour wait and still no sign of food. Some customers were waiting over two hours for their mains. You expect slow service at this time of year, up to a point, but this was an unacceptable experience !!

We got food from Ivory Tusk on a weekday night and it was spot on. We phoned ahead with our order and received good service on the phone. Parking is a bit tricky, but we managed ok. We went into the restaurant and were greeted by the staff, who asked us to sit in their waiting area. We paid and within a few mins they brought our food out. It was hot, the portions were generous and it tasted good. We will use them again.

A decent curry house which isn't that expensive, compared to neighbouring Indian restaurant. I recommend the Chicken Saag and Chicken Tiklka Jalfrezi for mains and Onion Bhaji and Chicken Chaat for starters. Very friendly.

In these difficult times we thought we would treat ourselves to a takeaway. We had been told that the Lal Bagh was very good but as we didn't know the town too well we asked a local where it was. They told us that Lal Bagh was a bit of a walk from where we had parked and that the Indian Village was just around the corner and they said it was also good, sadly the meal was very disappointing. The mains and the rice were far too salty to a point where you could barely taste the flavours, both the mains were very thin, very similar base and taste. On a plus side the chicken pieces, although small, were of good quality. Considering it was £34 for two mains, two rice and one nan bread, they hadn't even included a couple of complimentary poppadums' or salad, which we always receive in all the 'other' Indian restaurants we use. Sadly we won't be returning but will definitely try Lal Bagh next time.
