Indian Orchid in Barnet

We’ve just eaten our take away from this restaurant and sadly we were extremely disappointed. The food was salty, my naan bread was dry, and the popadom was broken into tiny pieces. I definitely do not recommend this restaurant.

Since Indian Orchid moved to a new location a few years ago they are within walking distance of our home. This year, during the pandemic, we have dined there a few times, and also had several meal deliveries during lockdown. A comment on dining in: during the August 'Eat Out' promotion the restaurant was packed. They did observe the sanitizing, hand washing etc rules, but I thought the tables were as close together as before the pandemic, so we preferred take away meals after that. The menu is wide ranging with all the usual Indian favourites, but you also find some more unusual dishes. Aloo Tokri Chaat and crispy bhindi are some examples from the starter menu, as is the vegetable Garhwali masala main dish. Some of their dhals are also excellent, especially tadka dhal and the Hyderabadi dhal. We became vegetarian a couple of years ago, so cannot comment on the non veg food. Flavours vary according to the dish, as everything is cooked fresh to order. The odd dish is a little bit oily for our liking, but that is quite are.Three plates plus nan are usually more than enough for two of us, and we have to take a doggy bag home. If we order four dishes for home delivery we can actually have two dinners, so the price works out to be fairly moderate, usually between GBP25 and GBP40 if no alcohol is involved. Service is always pleasant and obliging. A good place to have in the local area!

Poor for takeaway. May have gone downhill.. Perhaps due to Covid. We ordered a takeway, Food was ready surprisingly quickly. Should have been suspicious. Onion bhajis were dark brown/black almost all the way through, not crispy, and dry. Not fresh. Must have been reheated, maybe more than once. Lachha Paratha was leathery, probably reheated too. Other food flavours were not special at all. We won't go back

También pedimos burjee de huevo y panner matar para platos principales que estaba delicioso y con arroz frito con champiñones. La porción era bastante decente y muy abundante.El restaurante estaba muy limpio y se observó distanciamiento social con EPP. Definitivamente visite nuevamente para probar otros elementos del menú. Es una pena este lugar ya que la comida era buena, pero el servicio fue una decepción. Aprecio que el plan de comer fuera probablemente hizo que el restaurante estuviera lleno, pero estábamos muy apurados. El camarero trajo nuestros platos principales y luego nos dijo que necesitaban la mesa pronto. Tuvimos que pedir nuestros platos principales con nuestro entrante sólo porque tenían prisa. Estaba claro que no estaban preocupados por nosotros y más interesados en el cambio de rumbo. Tampoco me sentí tan seguro con las medidas de Covid, ya que las mesas estaban bastante cerca una de la otra y no había mucho distanciamiento social. Lamentablemente no volveré.

Visité por primera vez como parte del programa para comer fuera y estoy muy contento de descubrir un restaurante tan fabuloso en la puerta de mi casa. Probamos entrantes de pollo con chile y poori, así como un plato principal de biryani y paneer, todos estaban perfectamente condimentados y cocinados a la perfección. El servicio fue amable y atento sin prisas y haremos de este nuestro restaurante indio.

Vivo en Barnet. Durante muchos años me he desesperado por la falta de comida india decente en el norte de Londres. Hay muchos de ellos, todos al servicio del habitual Korma / Madras / Vindaloo. Siempre vamos más lejos para conseguir comida india adecuada, Original Lahore o cualquiera de los muchos "clubes" indios en el área de Harrow / Stanmore. No había probado Indian Orchid antes, pero el menú sugería algo un poco mejor de lo normal. Teníamos una comida para llevar: alitas de pollo, cordero Saag y pollo Methi. I would rate it as poor on taste of food but 5* for staff and service. We left without ordering the mains as the starters were not good .I would not recommend this for Indian food but saying that the restaurant was full so I assume locals do like it. I would not visit it ever

Visited this restaurant in August and loved the food! They have great vegetarian options. The pani puri shots were my favorite! Would definitely recommend this place.

Since being introduced to this gem of a restauarant in December, I have returned many times with different friends. Each time the food has been good, freshly made and tastes great. The staff are very helpful and nothing is too much trouble. Portions are a decent size and you can take the leftovers away if you like. Can't recommend this place enough and prices are also reasonable.

Enjoyed an evening of freshly cooked, tasty Indian food with an excellent choice of vegetarian options. Nothing was too much trouble as the staff are all happy and friendly. Its so nice to eat knowing everything is freshly cooked and I was even able to try a taster of a new dish that was delicious. I really look forward to going back.

The atmosphere at Indian Orchid is vey relaxed we went there on sunday, the staff were polite and did not rush us. i had chinese which was really nice and my husband and daughter had indian which they were happy with

Hidden away across the road from the Elephant Pub in North Finchley Indian Orchid the best Indian restaurant in the area by far. Great food, warm welcome at reasonable prices. Classic and contemporary dishes are fresh, fragrant and beautifully presented. The biryanis are outstanding.

I have been here a few times and each time the food is good quality and fresh. Service is good too and overall a great local restaurant to visit.

Had lunch with two friends at Indian Orchid; the service was above average - and the food once it arrived really excelled. We all left very full of good food. Didn’t need dinner in fact! Definitely a top venue for West Finchley area

We ordered a takeaway from here and it was awful!

Five of us went. All fed well. It is nothing from outside, but clean and welcoming within. If my methi chicken had been just a little less oily, it would have been five stars. As it is 4 and a half.

I came with a group of friends for a birthday on a busy Saturday night, the place was jam packed and I can see why! The food was simply delicious. Tried a variety of dishes from across the menu, and all of t top notch. Even friends that claimed not to like curry were easily converted! A huge thank you to the whole team, we’ll be back for sure

Went with my children and grand kids. had lovely meal, service very good, good value for money. Used to go regular when they were further up North Finchley but stopped after they moved to the new location, so went back after along time and was pleasantly surprised by them in service and food. Highly recommended.

Six of us had a boys night out and I recommended this restaurant. Tuesday night the restaurant was very quiet. Apart from us six there was one other table of four. The food is excellent however the service was very poor. I have eaten at this restaurant six times and never had such poor service. The starters took over 30 minutes to arrive. The main course came to the table at least 40 minutes for four of us. However the two who ordered the Tandoori prawns had their rice but waited a further 20 minutes for the main course. They changed the rice after 10 minutes but it was cold by the time the prawns arrived. When I complained and asked for a reduction to the £170 bill I was told NO. We would always tip well where ever we eat but on this occasion we did not leave a tip. Now the group have said they do not want to go back again. Pity because the food is very good.

I loved the food, tasty, beautifully presented, decent portions. I also really like ambience of the restaurant. My new regular restaurant!

Vegetarian staters and main was delicious Just as we ordered not very spicy and chilli hot. Restaurant was full.very busy but service was excellent. My favourite Indian Restaurant and I travel a lot.Their vegan meals are very delicious. See you soon

A small but busy Indian restaurant with fresh authentic Indian dishes served right from the kitchen. I loved the food and my first visit was very impresive. Will certinly interduce this place to my friends.

An amazing evening with very special people. The food was just amazing. We had chilli garlic mogo, okra fries, methi gota, pani puri as starters. The quantities are just right! For mains, we mainly had vegetarian food and everything was made with perfection. It feels like you are sitting at any fine dine restaurants in Mumbai! Their wine and cocktails are amazing as well, do try their martinis! Will be visiting again soon!

We came here last Saturday on a visit with my aunty and grandparents as my Dad wanted to take my grandmother out for a meal on that day. For starters we ordered Garlic Mogo and Methi Gota and they were very nicely flavoured with the Garlic Mogo being my favourite and it was probably one of the best Garlic Mogo's I've had. We then ordered the main course after 20 minutes and I had Methi Chicken with Garlic Naan and it was very tasty. Only issue here is that the sauce was very salty and their food has always been very salty having been here for previous visits. Can you please tell your chef to put less salt in the food so that it doesn't taste salty the next time we visit. Apart from that this place is very nice and the food always delivers. Will definitely come here again for sure.

Been to this restaurant on numerous occasions since it opened its doors and have to say it has never let me or my friends and family down.

Went on a Friday night, good service and most importantly the food was spot on. The starters in particular were very tasty, the chilli garlic mogo and lambs chops were the highlight. Will most definitely be back.

This is the third time we have been to Indian Orchid, first for lunch. A bright clean restaurant with white walls and modern crockery etc. TVs on walls but not intrusive.

Went with another couple, one of whom was a celiac (no wheat) and we found the staff most helpful with checking the ingredients in certain dishes. The menu was full of variety and there was no problem in having a vegetarian meal as well as the usual meat dishes. The restaurant is tastefully decorated and it will be a pleasure to return.

Ate here for the first time on Saturday and the food is absolutely delicious. We like to order plenty of starter dishes to share but can often feel disappointed with small portion sizes at many other indian restaurants. Not here! The portions are plentiful, the chicken wings are LARGE and everything is so tasty and full of flavour. The garlic mogo, the sheekh kebabs, crispy chicken and paneer & spinach are recommended. We ate like kings and thoroughly enjoyed the vibrant and buzzing atmosphere - great to see a new restaurant so busy and popular among all ages and cultures. And the service is perfect - attentive, fast and friendly. Brilliant, a must visit if you're in N.London.

This was my first time entering this restaurant. I have loved eating curries for over 25 years in London and this was the best Bombay Aloo and Chicken Tikka (starter) I have ever tasted, it was excellent. The restaurant was very clean, spacious and has a very good menu (veg and meat). The food was delivered promptly to our table. Drinks were very good. Waiting staff were very attentive. The only down side I found was that the waiting staff were walking up and down the restaurant too much and it put me off my food, I didn't feel relaxed, but some customers may like this. Please go to this restaurant and try the food, it has different spices that I never tasted before, you will not be disappointed. The portions are on the generous side too so it is value for money.

Food spicy hot but not pipping hot. It was OK but nowt special - definitely over priced for a run of the mill restaurant. Rice claggy and disappointing.

I've lost count of the number of Indian restaurants I've taken a shine to over the past five decades...then been disappointed when I made a return trip a few months later because the chef has moved on. Let's hope this newly-opened (2017) restaurant on the main road through North Finchley is not one of them - because the meal was superb. At first glance, a bill of £27 a head might seem a trifle hefty. But (for three people) it did include two tasty starters (one of them gargantuan; pity I've forgotten its name); three wonderful mains; vast bowls of rice; two well above average-sized side dishes - and three large bottles of Cobra. Long gone are the old flocked-wallpaper days of the traditional Brindian; this place was light, airy and well decorated. Good service to go with the large, tasty portions. It deserves to succeed in an area crammed with ethnic restaurants. And I'm sure it will...so long as the chef stays in place of course.

Had a reunion with old (over 50 years) school friends from Kenya (some visiting from overseas) - making allowances for being "new" the food was average - no wifi (which was a great disappointment as we were hoping to link up online with other friends) - the service staff seemed to forget orders and had to be reminded - has the potential to be good so may give it another try in a few months

Visited for lunch with a friend, we were intending to have the excellent set lunch but decided to try a variety from the main menu. The menu was very different from the usual Indian restaurant with lots of dishes which were new to me. The waiter was extremely pleasant and helpful.we had Garlic and chilli mono which was cassava in a nice spicy sauce.and baigan bhartha, a lovely tasty crushed aubergine dish. The nans , peshwari and cheese were the best I'd had. Would definitely recommend this restaurant.

There are a lot of Indian restaurants around the area but this one is by far the best. Food is great, staff are very friendly and always smiling. Will definitely come back.

Visited with another couple last night. Noisy party dominated restaurant and most waiting staff looked inexperienced and didn't seem to have a clue what they were doing. Service was very slow from getting a drink through to mains. Food ranged from poor to OK with exception of the egg fried rice which was superb. All in all a bit of a disaster which was a shame as I have eaten there before and the food was good.

I visited this restaurant on a Monday afternoon with my husband and baby. This was my first visit after a couple of recommendations. All I have to say is wow! Food was amazing! We ordered the garlic Mogo for starters and paneer tikka masala and methi chicken for mains with garlic and plain naan. Absolutely delicious! I cannot believe I have never visited this restaurant sooner! I will definitely be recommending this to my family and friends.

Im surprised to see such mixed reviews as my friend and I visited recently and the food was first class and definitely one of the best Indian meals Ive tasted in a long time. Clean modern restaurant with good service. Highly recommended.

Reading the review one would think different from what one experience.The standard of food is average. The price is above average. The service is below standard. The waiters in that restaurant don't know their food.What would you think of that?

Amazing food veg and non veg.. Very helpful staff and very accommodating to your needs. It's very child friendly here too. They also have a lovely private function room upstairs which is available to hire. Price wise very reasonable. Parking free after 6.30, I would highly recommend this Indian restuarant.

I was first brought here by an Indian friend and have subsequently brought many other people here. The decor is not impressive - I fight the lighting a little stark - but the food is truly delicious and the service very helpful. The flavours of everything I have ever eaten here have been wonderful and, although it is not particularly local to me, I will return whenever I want tasty, good quality food.

Always a great night in here. Great atmosphere, great food, great staff. The staff are very friendly and efficient, and the curries are fantastic. Great prices too, even the beer.

Indian Orchid came recommended so decided to try it out. Arrived early for a midweek dinner and it was empty, even as we left just after 8 it was still very quiet but don't take that to be a fair reflection of the restaurant.It has a really substantial menu with plenty to choose from for starters and mains. I'd have maybe liked to have seen a few chef's specials (always think a good Indian should try and do a couple of unique(ish) things).The starters were fabulous. The chilli paneer (which I tend to use as a dish to compare restaurants) was excellent, really good; and the fish tikka was one of the best dishes I've had at an Indian restaurant.The mains were a little less good. The chicken tikka masala lacked something, I'm not sure what exactly but it wasn't as rich as it should have been. The saag lamb was very disappointing - the lamb was overcooked and therefore tough and chewy whilst the pieces of meat they'd used were quite fatty too. However the various naan breads we ordered were really good.Given that it wasn't busy, it did take a long time for the food to come. Would try it again because the starters show that they can do really good food so maybe we were just unlucky with our mains.

Luckily I had a received a recommendation from an Indian friend, so I was confident enough to ignore the bad reviews. When I went early evening, the service was quick and attentive. The waitress gave genuinely helpful advice that we were slightly over-ordering.This is not simply your standard Indian food and the new tastes were very welcome. The Peschwari naan was delicious as was the meat in the lamb-on-the-bone curry. Altogether a very pleasurable experience.

I went here with 4 of my friends while on a visit to London. I wanted good Indian food at reasonable prices and the Indian Orchid was recommended. Two of my friends were vegetarians and the other 2 were not. The non-veggies ordered a starter which had chicken tikka, lamb chops, shish kebab with some fried vegetables, among other things. What I liked was the fact that it wasn't too oily as sometimes happens in Indian restaurants. The portion was so big that we decided to forego a main meal and just ordered some garlic nan and pillaw rice. The service was suerb. She was patient and never without a smile. I would recommend this place without any hesitation. It is a sort of Pub and Grub place also as there is a nice var.

Very disappointed as went there after reading the reviews which People claim the food is very good.. First no atmosphere, children crying in the background on a nearby table, another table people on their iPad with full volume.We ordered chill mogo which was the best. The mix grill was not very good -lamb chops were chewy, lamb tika was also chewy, butter chicken tasted like tomato soup with sugar added. Will not go again, will continue to travel to regency.

I've been here a few times for take out only. They have a great lunch menu which includes curry, rice, nan and a poppadom all under £6. I always go for the butter chicken, thick, creamy and so tasty! Great value!

I was enticed here after seeing the very positive reviews - I find it very hard to believe them!If you want a cheap meal, then you will get a cheap meal here. Lunch (curry, rice and nan) is just under six pounds per person. But, if you want genuine Indian food, then this is not the place! My vegetable korma looked and tasted as if it had been made from condensed vegetable soup with a touch of spice added. My partner's curry looked and tasted as if the meat had been covered with condensed tomato soup with some spice added. Cheap as it was, it was exceptionally poor value. What's more, the portions were small. We left still feeling hungry! The place - not surprisingly - was virtually empty. The owner/waiter/host/server did not seem to know what he was doing. I would not return under any circumstances.

In London gibt es viele Inder und nach einem kurzen Blick auf Tripadviser sind wir während unsres einwöchigen Aufenthaltes in London zu Sylvester 2014 einfach zu dem Inder direkt um die Ecke gegangen. Wir haben gleich 2x hintereinander hier gegessen und ich habe sogar 2x das gleiche Hauptgericht gewählt, weil es soooo lecker war! Beide Male war das Restaurant gut besucht, auch mit vielen Einheimischen, was ja immer ein gutes Zeichen ist. Die Bedienung war freundlich und schnell und das Essen super.

I was looking for a quick place to have lunch and also hoped to satisfy my curry cravings, The Indian Orchid did all that. The lunch menu is extremely affordable, tasty and generous. Accompanied with papadum, a buttery naan and beautiful sauces, it hit the spot. Recommended to all and I hope they will become a new craze on the high street.

I was brought there by an Indian friend and I was a bit reluctant to go to an Indian restaurant as I thought they were all similar. However, I was very surprised by the menu which was so different than the usual Indian restaurant menu. No british vindaloos/madras...just very authentic Indian food! The starters were to die for, especially their chilli and garlic mogo! My mate who had dined at other "nice indian" restaurants like the Regency thought it was outstanding, better than the others! The service was very good and I'm looking forward to my next visit! Good job!

We went for indian new year dinner with friends. I could taste the flavours in our curries, Great selection of starters, the highlight was bharwa mushrooms, a must to have. The passion juice was fresh and very refreshing. A very good selection of dessert. Overall good value for money and would definitely go back. Bhavin was very accommodating and charming and also recommended us some dishes, exceptionally good customer service and very fast service.

We went there after a friend's recommendation and were looking forward to the experience of authentic north Indian food. It has a great indian atmosphere, with Bollywood songs and movies playing on big screens. The staff is very friendly and courteous.The food was not as authentic as it was recommended to me; it was still the anglicized version of all currys you usually get in the UK. The service was fine considering there was a big birthday party group in the restaurant that night. They had a nice bar and a good range of cocktails. The food was average but I have had better north indian food in London for that price. However, if you are around that area it is definitely a good place to spend your evening enjoying indian food. No choice of indian desserts though.

On a recent trip to London, we had the great pleasure of discovering Indian Orchid while staying in North Finchley. My significant other and I are foodies (he works in the industry) and we love Indian cuisine. We were so impressed by the food quality and the service at this restaurant that we dined there three times in one week! Now that we are back in the US, we fantasize about hopping on a plane just to go to the Indian Orchid. We hope to get back there--my taste buds are craving all the delicious flavors. I am a vegetarian, and there were many options for me on the menu.

I have recently moved to North Finchley, finding this restaurant is an icing on cake. I am a foodie and this is one of the best Indian food I have had in London. Chicken Tandoori was served like a sizzler and it was as tasty as it looked. I tried other chicken dishes and they did justice to the name. Ambience is average but I would say simplicity at its best!

We were recommended this place by an Indian gentleman as he claimed It was not only the best food he had had at an Indian restaurant but you could tell this simply by how many Indian people also go there; and he was not wrong.Fantastic menu with a massive variety, clean and fresh tasting food, friendly service and an all round great experience

I was staying in the area and wanted a quick meal of my favourite cuisine. I popped into the Orchid and it looked empty but there was some local (Indian) customers in the back so I thought I'd give it a try. very tasty food and I couldn't find cheaper.

Excellent food with different options to the usual curry fare. High number of vegetarian dishes. Friendly staff, quick service and open late.

A genuine Indian restaurant with a twist as some of the dishes are fusion cuisine. We eat there regularly as the standard of the food is very high. It is also a bar/restaurant, so you can have a drink and a small snack, again of very good standard.
