Keraspice clearly prioritises it's phone-in orders over the restaurant. the service was incredibly slow - it took 15 minutes before we were offered a drink. 3 drinks appeared but the fourth took another 20 minutes and had to be asked for. Another 20 minutes before our order was taken. A jug of water took 1/2 an hour. A glass of wine took 20 minutes. We waited a bit over an hour before we got any food.

Precios razonables.

Visited grillsbay during one of my stays in London. I was expecting not so authentic food to be honest. But it did certainly exceed my expectations. Food was excellent and the staff were only happy to accommodate any requests. Food was excellent. The only drawback is that they don't serve alcohol. But you can bring your own or buy it from the off license next door.

Had a delicious meal here last night.Fish dish and paneer highly recommended. Very friendly staff and bring your own welcome. I would suggest renaming as unless we were walking by and had the opportunity to see the menu we would not have guessed that this was in fact a great South Indian restaurant. Will definitely add to our list of local favourites.

Popped in here last night with my teenage daughter, as the place I usually go for a curry was closed. What a lovely surprise! Absolutely delicious food - unusual tastes of spices and flavour combinations. A real re-awakening of our tastebuds! As well as the food being divine, the people running the restaurant were extremely nice, and very passionate about the food they were creating - and the ingredients that make up their dishes. This restaurant is a positive oasis in the Leytonstone area. It's not that close to where we live, but we will still certainly come back again to explore the menu further!

An impromptu visit and not disappointed at all. The food was excellent, fresh, hot (temp) and very tasty. The subtle spices were very southern Indian, not 'spicy hot' if that is what you prefer.Alcohol is not served, but you may take your own and there was no corkage charge. It was surprisingly quiet, but do not be put off.The staff were very friendly, helpful, and attentive. The food was fresh, moist and well presented. We had chicken, lamb and vegetable selections, all of which superb.

A very friendly restaurant with a great menu. I thought the prawn curry (Chemmeen masala) was superb and had a delicate beetroot thoran on the side. Keralan dishes tend to have less oil and I personally prefer that. I look forward to visiting again. Highly recommended!

Was in Leytonstone the other evening and fancied a curry, so after seeing the various glowing reviews for this restaurant plus their web page touting "the authentic taste of South India" my wife and I plus a friend decided to check it out.I ordered a lamb malabar curry which contained a generous amount of meat in it and a good amount of sauce. Not having (knowingly) tried "South Indian" cuisine before I wasn't sure what to expect, apart from the general thumbs-up reviews on this site, but what an utter disappointment this dish was. The sauce was very generic - it was neither spicy nor particularly tasty (imagine someone pouring mild curry powder into lumpy Bisto gravy). This I could probably deal with but the real surprise was that EVERY single piece of meat in the dish had thick, unchewable gristle through it. I tried around 6 pieces and it was the same with all of them. I ended up leaving all of the meat on the side of the plate (it's also debatable whether this was actually lamb...)According to the blurb in the menu, the malabar curry is considered a 'special dish' of North Kerala. Not having ever visited this region before I cannot vouch for the dish's authenticity however, I do know that with such poor presentation of their main dishes I will not be coming back here nor will I ever be recommending this place to anyone.I was prepared to accept that maybe I'd just made the wrong choice from the menu but my wife and our friend also agreed that their meals were also way below average. Disappointing.

I recently ate at Grillsbay with my father and brother who were visiting London for the weekend and we had a most wonderful experience! I've eaten Indian food before but was curious as to what sets South Indian food apart from the rest of India. The very friendly waiter informed me that South Indian food uses less oil and has more flavour. I would definitely agree, as the food at Grillsbay was the best Indian food I've ever tasted. My father is not usually a fan of Indian food, but even he found the food tasty and full of flavour. I had chicken cheera kootu with mushroom rice for main course, while my father and brother both had chicken kurma with basmati rice and garlic naan. All main course dishes were delicious, but I would really recommend the mushroom rice and chicken kurma. For desert, I had matka which is basically ice cream with nuts on top served in a cute bowl. However, it differs from regular ice cream as it's much lighter and more refreshing. My father went for the palpayasam which was a sweet desert rice served warm - basically a lighter version of rice pudding. My brother had gulab jam which actually wasn't like jam at all! It was like deep-fried balls of dough floating in a sweet syrup. It was too sweet for our liking, but I'd definitely recommend the other deserts. The prices are very reasonable and good value, especially considering the quality of the food. Plus we were informed by the waiter that we could go to the shop and bring in our own alcohol at no extra cost (no corkage). The staff were so friendly and really nice. When we were leaving, they even gave us a small pot of yummy sweets to take away! We had a lovely experience and I'm looking forward to the next visit already!

I discovered this place by accident, just by walking past on the way to see the Hitchcock mural one evening. I don't usually walk down that part of Leytonstone High St, but I'm so glad I did. This is the best Indian food in town, by a country mile. The food was authentic and really tasty, and not too oily. The staff were incredibly attentive, which really made the whole experience for me. A lot of the other eateries in Leytonstone need to lift their game, but this one is already up there. It's still one of the only restaurants in town where you'll get a proper tablecloth! I will be going back again.

This restaurant advertises itself as an authentic taste of South India, and it is. I went on the recommendation of my son for a family meal, we were joined by a vegetarian friend. We had a fabulous evening, marked by great personal service by charming staff and absolutely outstanding food. A variety of fabulous vegetarian dihes, huge tasty Dosas, delicious Sag Paneer and a Chana Masala that was easily the best I have ever tasted. Kerala coconut oil is used extensively and it produces a far superior taste to ordinary Indian dishes redolent of ghee and often comprising a ubiquitous brown sauce that seems to accompany every dish. Not here! All our dihes were carefully spiced, the Chicken tTkka succulent and the Beach lLmb Roast (i stole some from my son), was a great blend of spicy flavours enhanced by fresh lime leaves. Even the Poppadoms came crisp and dry with really tasty selection of pickles. Just go, it is a real treat and inexpensive, take your own drink no corkage fee!

Not sure I should really be reviewing as didn't actually eat in Grillsbay but ordered a takeaway.I just thought I should give it a mention as it was such a nice surprise to find an Indian restuarant that didn't have a menu that was a carbon copy of all the others. It had a lovely variety of interesting South Indian dishes that I had not come across before. Chose a chicken and a fish one pretty much at random and asked for them to be made spicy. Both were delicious, as was the rice and the various dips that came with the poppadoms. Will definately be visiting to have a proper meal there very soon.

We ordered samosas and potato bhaji to start, both stodgy and soggy. For mains we had lamb malarba and chicken kurma, both tasteless and watery, with 5/6 small pieces of meat and the rest of the container was a quarter of tomato. The rice was a small portion, although tasted okay. We called Grillsbay hoping for a refund - we wouldn't have paid for it if in the restaurant - but unfortunately their customer service only extends to offering us a different (probably equally awful) curry. I appreciate the difficulty for takeaway restaurants to know when complaints are genuine but this was the worst £25 we have ever spent. I'm about to cook myself a frozen pizza and chuck this tasteless food out.

This restaurant is guilty of turning me into a South Indian food lover. I have decided to give it a go after having a quick look at the window menu and seeing a big selection of vegetarian dishes; still, I didn't have high expectations. To my surprise, everything we ordered (and we ordered a lot) was fresh and tasty, skilfully spiced and served quickly. I'd recommend their thorans and dosas to everybody, and if you like fish - the fish Molly is just perfect. Despite not being into spicy food, I enjoyed daals; in every dish spices emphasised the taste of food and not overwhelmed it as it often happens in curry houses.I am now a returning customer and I try to order something different each time, and I still haven't found anything on the menu I didn't like. The only thing to remember is to bring your own bottle if you want an alcoholic drink.

There has been a Keralan restaurant in this location before and it was the same food but better. Although nice enough it wasn't great (the rice was clumpy, like it had been microwaved, the popadoms and dips a shrunken version of the previous restaurant. My chilli chicken had very little chilli) and there are a number of niggles regarding the restaurant itself that didn't previously exist - like why does it have drinks on the tatty menu (it's not been open more than a few months) when they only sell a bottle of rose? Do they have no licence out of choice or did they forget to get one? They have bar with a pump and bottles of half-finished spirits lining it. One of the toilets were out of order and the table setting was dishevelled. The waiter insisted on hovering over us annoyingly and the food was rushed, even though the place was pretty empty. It was pretty cheap, though.

Visited this little restaurant when staying with family. We had a delicious meal, the choice of dishes is brilliant and really good value. Unusual dishes available, especially for those of us who are vegetarians, a really good choice. When we visited on a Friday night there were just two other tables taken and they other guests were complaining about the wait for food. They were justified, we waited over an hour for our small order for a table of five. No lager was available, and only two white wines. We took a trip to the local off licence to buy some beers. Cleanliness is a bit dodgy, only one toilet working, which wasn't the most hygienic I've ever seen. The staff were really welcoming and the food was lovely, and it was incredibly good value, but not sure this quite made up for the wait.

We walked past the place a few weeks ago and did a double-take. It didn't look like the kind of restaurant you'd find in this area. Lots of interesting-sounding veggie dishes and a definite focus away from the usual curry house tropes. Well, we popped in yesterday for a meal, and now have a new favourite restaurant in Leytonstone! The vegetable side dishes, involving fresh-tasting green breans, beetroot and cabbage, were a highlight, as was my dosa. The mushroom rice had an unexpected peppery zest which went beautifully with our saag paneer and lentil dishes. Yes, we went a bit nuts and ordered half the menu. The place was very quiet, which I suppose is a slight negative, but it meant we were well looked after by the attentive staff. They were just winding down their stocks of alcohol to stop serving it when we were in there, so by the time you read this they will probably be a Bring-Your-Own; possibly to appeal more to the local Asian community? Either way, that's no negative, especially from a price point of view, so we'll be back here again and again.Highly recommended.

We have been getting takeaway regularly from this Keralan restaurant and haven't had a bad dish yet. What surprises us is why it isn't packed with custom every night? We wish we could go more often, it's so good! The staff are friendly and the food is delicious. Far more interesting and tasty than the usual british curry house - and I've tried a lot! Keralan food is full of incredible flavours and Grillsbay gets it right. My current favorite is the Beach Lamb but we can't resist trying out other dishes each time and nothing so far has been a disappointment. It's great for veggies and vegans too. We really hope the restaurant succeeds as it's a delicious addition to Leytonstone.
