food is ok but wouldn't say it's worth the money you pay, chasni was okay rather disappointed it didn't come with rice after paying around £15+ for just the curry. Arran special kebab is lovely. Staff are not very well organised, food missing from order had to return to collect.

Don't know why I keep going here. The guy who takes the orders always looks like he can't be bothered with anyone. Customer service is 0/10 Their food is O K and over priced compared to Glasgow. I go over to Arran couple of times a month to work and occasionally pop in for chips & curry sauce in the same tub. Every time I get a look of distain as its only a £5. Tonight, I got an outright no.. Mumbles something about tubs and walked away! How is this business still open?? Only Indian food on the island so have no competition. Won't be back

Having never tried this takeaway before, I read the review to see what we were dealing with as it's not the most appealing looking place from the outside. I have come to the conclusion, that all bad reviews are from people that have clearly never had a good curry! This place is excellent! Being from the west of Scotland, renowned for some of the best curry houses in the UK, I have eaten at many and this place is up there with the best, contrary to previous negative reviews. Amazing flavours, no food colourings, the chef clearly knows his stuff!! For the person who reviewed an Indian takeaway based on their omelette...maybe try a greasy spoon? Highly recommend!

We ordered a takeaway by phone and were told to collect in about 20 minutes .the service was pleasant the meal was brought from the kitchen and came with complementary poppadums . Our starter was slightly disappointing..Chicken pakora ,which had a doughy batter rather than a crispy batter , but was tasty enough. The main was lamb tikka masala ,tender lamb and a mild spicy sauce, very good. The portions were generous and easily enough for 2. We will definitely use this place again and try more from the menu., Just don't expect the type of indian cooking that you might get in the big cities like Glasgow, there isn't the turnover on a small island.

It was the worst Indian takeaway I’ve ever been to. We ordered chicken korma which was spicy, just a very sweet sauce was poured over the chicken. We’re very disappointed. But the peshwari nan which cost £3.95. There was a yellow powder inside the Nan which it all crumbled, it was all disgusting, hence it went into the bin. We would not recommend this place not even to my worst enemy(if I had any!)

Ordered from here last night. Terrible service on the phone. Was told no delivery service, which was fine as we weren’t far away. Asked if we could pay by card, as it says on the menu, and was laughed at down the phone. Told not to order the lamb tikka as it was poor quality as it is not the season, for someone else to be allowed to order it while we waiting on the food. We were also only told it would be around a certain price, the order was quite big and when I asked for the price so we could get the correct cash was snapped at and told he didn’t know. I nearly cancelled at this point and wished we had. The food was fine, although the veggie curries were all over cooked and soggy. However we now have 4 people who are ill after eating the chicken, no prior symptoms before this Would not recommend

Had a short stay recently in Lamlash, and delighted to see an Indian take away within walking distance. We love Indian food, and my favourite cuisine. I have eaten Indian food all over the UK and love nothing more than good Indian food. However was sadly not my experience on this occasion. We were initially very excited, and the menu had lots of very appetising options. We were particularly taken by the Chef’s Special Treat. To be fair my wife ordered Onion Bhajis for a starter and these were lovely. Good size portion as well. My issue here was that the dip options were sold individually and very expensive for the size of of each of the potions. In my local Bangladeshi & Indian restaurant we would pay less than £1.00 for the entire pickle tray, with a selection of 4 different dip options. The Indian charge 90p per pickle option (tiny pot) and so if we wanted to have the full range £1.30 for the spicy onion, so if we wanted to have the entire pickle tray (4 items, including onion) it would have cost us £4.00).I had the prawn puri starter and again was very nice. However, our main issue was with the main dishes, these were distinctly average, in fact less than average. The Chef’s Special Treat was a gloopy, oily mess. As soon as we took the lids off we couldn’t believe our eyes. They just looked awful. We actually had to get the menu to re-read the description for the Chef’s Special Treat, because we just couldn’t believe that what we had in front of us was actually what was described on the menu.We ate what we could, but neither of us could finish the meal, and left half of it. It jay was not nice at all, and bitterly dissapointed. We had such high hopes, because the menu looked so lovely. The food was unnecessarily oily. There was oil swilling around the edges of our plates, and in the containers.I became really unwell very quickly after the meal, and spent most of the night on the toilet, and had very bad stomach cramps right through until mid-morning, the next day. My wife was fine, so not suggesting food ing or anything like that, however if you even have a remotely sensitive constitution, I would recommend you stay well clear on this establishment.I don’t in general have issues with good Indian food, however I do have issues with poor quality Indian food. In fact we had a delicious meal last night in our local Bangladeshi & Indian restaurant last night, with no issues whatsoever. In fact this is what prompted my review, having contrasted the difference between good quality Indian food and poor quality Indian food. All in all a huge let down.I note others report better experiences, however I can only reflect our experience on this occasion, and based on this, we could not honestly recommend the Indian Garden as a take away option. On a final note, as a seasoned traveller, I have noticed this in locations where there is only one option, without competition. lt’s like that have become complacent. They don’t have to try too hard. Where else do you go if you want Indian food ?Well even though Indian food is my favourite cuisine, I would rather do without, based on the experience I had. We had some lovely food on subsequent evenings in local restaurants (not Indian).

Having read such mixed reviews of this Indian takeaway I must admit to ordering with a certain amount of doubt, but as we fancied a curry - we decided to give it a go.Before continuing the review I must say that I generally respect the reviews of others, and the photograph of the paltry chicken pakora served to one reviewer was indeed very relevant - so we didn’t order those. As far as Indian curries are concerned, I must say that I consider myself pretty well versed, as I have eaten and generally enjoyed them all over the UK for years and also cook British Indian Restaurant (BIR) style curries at home - so I guess I know what I’m looking for.Whenever I eat in a new Indian restaurant or takeaway I tend to stick to some well-known staples, so that I can judge flavour and spicing, and on this occasion we kept it simple by ordering a chicken Jalfrezi, a chicken tikka Madras, pilau rice and a plain nan. I ordered by phone and it was all ready on time. But what would it be like?!In some restaurants a Jalfrezi is a relatively dry stir-fried dish (my preference), while others add some sauce. The Indian Garden version is of the latter variety, but it was very good indeed, with excellent flavour and just the right amount of heat. The Madras looked strange in that the sauce was of a very watery consistency, the like of which I’ve never seen before (and I notice a previous review also referring to it as “soupy”) and whereas that aspect was disappointing, the actual flavour was very good and the spicing spot on.The rice was fine and the plain naan very good.So the bottom line from our perspective is that, apart from the watery sauce on the otherwise tasty Madras, we thoroughly enjoyed our meal from here and would happily use the Indian Garden again.

Owner seemed nice but this was the worst Indian food I have ever had. Vegetable dish was bland . Spiced onions tasted were bitter and hadn’t been marinated enough or for long enough. Lamb was inedibly tough and the curry itself was like a homemade curry gone wrong with added shop bought sauce/ paste to correct it. I would have taken average to poor given the lack of choice on the island but this was horrendous and pricey. Also the curry was leaking out of container

The presence of an Indian takeaway on the Isle of Arran sounds exciting. Unfortunately, the excitement evaporates as soon as you open your containers. A complete inedible mess I’m afraid. - bearing no resemblance to anything I have previously eaten in Indian cuisine. The chicken madras and naga dishes were soupy (without the consistency of soup) concoctions lacking in any any flavouring let alone spicing. An overpriced and under-spiced disaster.

The prices were high but it was the only game in town so we ordered Chicken Tika Masala, Chicken Korma, Sag Paneer and an Aloo Paratha stuffed bread. Only the Sag Paneer was tasty. The Chicken dishes were simply chunks of meat tossed about in non-descript sauces. The Tika Masala sauce was SWEET--unlike any I've had at other restaurants. Have been to Arran multiple times and had never tried this place. For that reason, the wife and I decided to get a take away after our walk on Lamlash beach. I went into the place in advance of the walk, placed the order and said I would return in 30 minutes. Staff were friendly enough, and when I returned 30 minutes later the food was waiting as agreed. My first doubts began when I saw the size of the bag! We had ordered a lot of food for a family of 5, and it was all within one small paper bag!Got home, began to dish up the food. As suspected, the portions were small, I feel, over priced. While I always expect to pay a little more for items on Arran compared with the mainland, I really don't expect to get less for the price!!We ordered popadoms, spiced onions, nan breads, chicken tikka masalas and various portions of pakora. On the mainland at our usual Indian take away in Glasgow such an order would feed an army. At the Indian garden however, a mouse would struggle to survive and would be penniless for the privilege.Everything was sickly sweet, the spiced onions were like nothing I have ever seen north of the border, and the popadoms and nan were not that big. As for our chicken pakora, I 100% agree with the post from August 2016. The guys pictures do not do justice to how pathetic the portion of chicken was. It was simply a token slice to accompany your batter which, was not that spicy! We were so disappointed with this place that;A. We will never go again,B. We had to go to our local - the Indian Cottage, Kirkintilloch, Glasgow - when we got home to remind ourselves what a proper Indian tastes like!! It was half the price, quadruple the food, and 100% of an improvement in quality and flavour compared with the Indian Garden, Lamlash.WOULD NOT RECOMMEND.

The taking of the 'phone order was straightforward, and (early in the evening) we were given notice that it would be ready in 25 minutes. We had ordered starters, mains and side dishes. The member of staff on the counter was very friendly, and our order was ready not long after our arrival, and he took the trouble to remind us to keep the trays level (as we were walking with a trolley). We had only ordered one plain Papadam, but were given 3 at no extra cost, which was very nice of them. They were nice and crisp. The mixed kebab was very tasty, succulent chicken tikka and lamb tikka and spicy kebab with salad and lemon slice. The chicken chat was up to expectations, but the 2 vegetable samosas were drier than expected and not very spicy and our hostess wished she had had the meat version. The Green Masala Chicken was a generous portion and had tender chicken lumps and lovely flavour. The Bengal Chicken was a good portion. It had strips of chicken tikka and was hot and tangy as described and very much enjoyed. The accompanying Pilau rices were good sized portions and very colourful! The Prawn Biryani was 'as described' , but the more expensive King Prawn version would probably have been a better choice for flavour. On the whole it was a lot of rice proportionate to the sauce, but that is normal for biryani and so not a criticism as such, just advice. The Tarka Dall was tasty, but a little salty and a little watery, but still enjoyed as an accompaniment,as was the Bombay Potato which was good. The Nan bread was large and fluffy and nice.We thought the quality of the food was very good on the whole ,and compared well to the many curries we have in other parts of the U.K.

This is a take away. We visited and enjoyed two really good meals on the 10th September 2016. I had Lamb Rogan Josh, partner who is a vegetarian had vegetable Kashmiri, both of us enjoyed it, it was cooked fresh, large portions. Will try again during our week stay.

A family of 6 of us really enjoyed our takeaway curries with naan bread, rice & pakora. A wide selection of different curries and they were all really tasty. Served fairly quickly and food piping hot. Staff very friendly. Would go back.

I arrived on island late with family already there. Had intended to go for dinner somewhere but due to time thought chicken pakora and chips all round, you can't go wrong with that. We bought 3 portions of CP and 2 off chips. The latter were cold and greasy but by god the former beat it hands down. Out of approximately 15 pieces there was enough chicken for 2 or 3. How they can call it chicken pakora I'll never know. The picture doesn't do it justice as I snapped the thick end. There must be a rule somewhere we you need to have a percentage of chicken in the item to be able to call it chicken, in this instance I would say 5% at most.

I ordered a lamb madras, it was very good but the naan bread was very doughy and not the best. Also ordered a portion of vegetable pakora, which looked amazing, freshly made but there was only 5 pieces and not at all spicy, more sweet and then there was the pakora sauce WOW, it was a horrible colour and tasted more like a cough syrup.

We were in Arran for a week and were so impressed by the Indian Garden that we ordered take-aways twice. The mixed prawn curry and Bengal curry were particularly delicious. I hope it's still as good when we return next year.

Visited this carry out restaurant last week (May 2016) on a whim, but we are big curry fans so thought we'd give it a go. We travel a lot and although we like our own very good local Indian Carry Out place we regularly try out other places when we are away from home. However on this occasion what a mistake! The meal was expensive for 2 main meals, rice, breads and some pakora. The chicken pakora was disgusting - it was like the deep fried chicken balls that you get in some Chinese dishes - a bit of chicken in some kind of greasy, doughy yellow stuff. But the worst was yet to come...... the main meals were both lamb. One had squarish chunks of lamb (not very many!) but seemed ok although the portion was pretty small, even including the sauce, the other meal had scraps or little strips of lamb (really not very many) and was swimming in a horrible sauce, the texture of which was pretty vile - this one was mine and I picked the few scraps of tough, chewy meat out and binned the rest. To add insult to injury some items were missing from the order but it was too far to drive back to get them so we just ended up paying even more than we expected. If you are a lover of curry then the best advice I can give is to stay away from this place. There are many excellent eateries in Arran, pick one of them and wait until you get home for your curry - it will taste all the better for the wait. If you really cant wait then the Co-op in Brodick is pretty well stocked and there are other little shops round the island with interesting ingredients so why not make your own - honestly, no matter how little you can cook you can't do worse than the Indian Garden!

Really enjoyable take away. Generous servings, tasty food. We phoned in our order and it was ready to collect as promised. Glad we did!

I didn't expect much of the only Indian takeaway on Arran, but was still disappointed. All the dishes were super greasy or (if sauced) swimming in oil. The flavour profiles were also indistinct while meat portions were frugal (eg chef special chicken curry was primarily a red/brown oil sauce, with a tiny number of chicken lumps). Vegetarian offerings were also fairly dreadful. We over-ordered with plans to store leftovers for another meal. We certainly had a lot of leftovers, but they were all binned. We had no issue with overall portion size or service, as highlighted by other reviewers.I initially scored two stars, but having seen the photos used by the takeaway have docked a star. These photos bear no resemblance to the foil trays of brown mush drenched in oil we were given. Not least, it is my understanding this is a takeaway only, so why there are photos of perfectly plated food is a real mystery.

We visit Arran every year. Now that the Indian restaurant in Brodick is closed, to my knowledge this is the only place you can get Indian food on the island. I apologise if this is incorrect but I'm pretty sure. It's expensive but delicious. Very nice indeed and the service is good too. Prompt and honest. I recommend this take away to everyone.

We never order standard curries, instead opting for an assortment of veg side dishes. The quality of the food was good, but I've never known an Indian restaurant to be so mean with their portions, barring the rice which is the only thing that they give plenty of. Literally, some of the portions didn't even fill half the tinfoil container. Usually, we've always found with any other Indian food place, they always pack the container to the brim. I understand that meals cost more on Arran due to the transport costs to get the ingredients but we're talking 10% not 100%. I'm afraid it's the last time we order from them as we now just wait until we go to the mainland for our fix of Indian food.

We enjoyed some Indian food while we were on Arran in July 2015. Unfortunately this is the only Indian place that's left on the island and it's only a takeaway. However, the food is good, the pricing is reasonable and the service is very friendly. We'd go again.

Not that spicy tasteful food experience we expected in an indian restaurant. Some pieces of meat were tough, the gravy for my taste much too sweet.Rice and bread not included in our meal. The salad unappetizingly packed in a plastic bag.Staff not very helpful...get some plastic forks for eating outside at the picnic area, but no knives or napkins. Can't recommend the place.

On holiday in Lamlash on a wet and dismal night I ordered a chicken dopiaza. Plenty of meat but not as flavoursome as I would have liked.

After spending over £20 here my wife and I were disappointed and still rather hungry. We ordered a tandoori mixed grill (or something similarly named) + bread. The flavour of the food was ok, not great but ok but there was just not enough of it...what we were given would have reasonably fed one 'normal' person.Service was average. Can't recommend and won't be going back.

We opted for a take away whilst staying in Lamlash recently. We order a chicken tikka korma, chips and naan. The food was nice enough, the korma was perhaps a little bland, but it still did the trick.I would use again.

A small takeaway situatedon the road out of Lamlash, opposite the secondary school. It has an extensive menu. If you are buying for a group you do not need a container of rice each as the portions are generous. The service was polite and the premises seemed spotlessly clean. Recommend this for an easy, good quality meal.

Being from Indian subcontinent, i have tested a lot of Indian dishes in Oxford and London. Nevertheless, i must admit that take-away from Indian Garden is my best Indian food experience so far in the UK. After reading some reviews, i was confused, but definitely not after testing it - i would say it all depends on taster's palate! It deserves a better review!

Got a takeaway for 3 of us. Was very tasty. Although more expensive than at home (perhaps due to being on an island), the portions were bigger than at home. Our fussy son really enjoyed his chicken tikka masala & my hubby & I both had lamb dishes which were lovely. The flavours were delicious. The garlic naan & rices were very tasty too.

We ordered a large order of food from this takeaway and while the food is ok it is nothing spectacular. The service itself is very good. The food was not very hot and the chicken pakora, well I've not had so muck batter and so little chicken ever before, other starters however were more pleaseing. The chicken balti was very nice. Now for the naan bread, if you like it served looking like it's been swept up in bits off the floor, then great. See attached image.

This is the only Indian in Arran , this was the worst Indian food we have ever ever tasted , and no matter where we are in the country we always try an Indian meal all I can say if you feel like a bit of curry go to a supermarket and buy a ready meal , we both tried one mouthful and it went straight into the bin .. Vile

It is the worst Indian we have ever tasted. Mixed Pakora was 2 straw like things. 1 battered mushroom. The chefs special was like a stew with no meat. The nan was a saucer size. The korma was to feed a bird. Absolutely a joke of a meal. I nearly took it back to them.

Had a nice night tonight, The mid week deal is fabulous, the Thursday steak deal looked great and some of the steak looked 😋. Some nice music on the background playing. Service for food order bit slow, but the food out was fast between courses. Would be back
