Disappointed My vegetarian curry was mainly carrots and sprouts never had sprouts in a curry before. No spices very bland. Vegetable bhuna a very disappointing dish. I must say the chips were good The lamb madras was short of meat but the rice was ok . I hadn’t visited in a while because last time the sag aloo was my main dish and it was disappointing also. How ever before these visits we use to really enjoy our food here , don’t know what has happened ?

Staff were extremely helpful and polite when I was having issues ordering online, Very lovely food, very satisfied (and full) family. Will definitely be ordering again.

The website allows you to pre-order and pre-pay. Brilliant for a busy bank holiday night as we wanted to eat early with elderly family. £70+ pounds down and no confirmation of order for a couple hours we rang 30mins before collection time to find we had to wait longer. Haven’t tried food yet but given there are only 4 of us: over-priced and shoddy customer service. Don’t take pre-orders if you can’t handle them. If we had chosen cash payment on collection we would have cancelled.

Tried a few takeaways but nothing beats Indian Chef. We’ve ordered a few times & never disappointed. Food is always delicious & tasty whether it’s sweet & creamy, hot & spicy or even mild. Can’t fault it. Fab selection of food for the family & staff are always helpful. If there’s a wait, I know it’s because they are busy & it’s worth the wait, food is beautiful. Reasonably priced, cash only on collection & cash point nearby. Online orders accept card. Fab indian takeaway.

On the recommendation of a friend wife and I ordered a takeaway the other night from here. It was the worst Indian meal we have eaten in years , my wife's king prawns were like tadpoles and flavourless and my chilli masala was like a vestas boil in the bag from the eighty's gone wrong . The tandoori shashlik starter was hotter than my chilli main course ???. We were very disappointed and for nearly seventy pounds for our order very annoyed. We will never order from here again.I would recommend giving this Indian a very wide berth.

Great place to get a takeaway and is ready quickly

Food ordered at 17:45. Advised that it would be it with us in one hour. Food turned up cold at 20:15. We will not be using this place again and cannot recommend it.

On numerous occasions I have had items from my order missing, only for me to find out when I arrive home. The food can be nice or it can be watered down and bland, depending on which chef is working. Staff are rude, unhelpful and do not like to accept blame, as I have found out when calling to inform staff that items from my order are missing. However, without doubt the biggest joke is the delivery price - £6.95 for delivery within Lanchester.

Chicken tikka massala absolutely swimming in ghee. Even with excess ghee drained off the sauce was overpowered with it and inedible. Chicken as hard as rocks and a weird texture. Lamb tikka starter and balti chips were decent.

I've never seen such an incredibly customisable menu online, pretty much everything you can think of is an option (apart from coriander - guys why not add coriander too!) Oh also it tastes delicious!

First and last time. Pathia tasted like tomato soup or passata with .over cooked chicken dropped into it. The description of hot/sweet/sour didnt fit the meal we ordered. Not like anything I have had at any Indian restaurant or takeaway. Not cheap either, we would have been better just going to south shields for a meal but thought we would give this a try. Not very good wish we hadnt bothered. Chicken went into the bin, jazzed up the sauce and put some prawns in, much better!

Have been wanting a decent curry for ages and have tried a few around. First time here and was all very good. However ordered "madras hot" and was very very hot. Hotter than any madras I ever had. I like heat so was OK but my partner likes a madras and said it was too hot. However I ate hers too and it was very nice

Ordered a takeaway for delivery through their website. Got confirmation that the order had been received and the money was taken from my card. About 5:15, I got a text telling me my order had been cancelled (no explanation why) and the card refunded. Rang the restaurant and was told it didn't open until 6pm and they hadn't even switched on the machines then - despite their website clearly stating that they open at 5pm on Fridays (see picture). Was told that if I still wanted my takeaway, I would have to either order it again online or by phone. I took my business elsewhere instead and will do so in future.

Burnt onion bhajis and naan bread.... Wont be back!

I love this place, i often get food from here and its always perfect and tasty. I never get disappointed, I tried many Indians around and this is definitely the best takeaway!! Staff is really friendly also. They have their own app if you wanna order from your phone.

Recently we’ve tried nearly every takeaway in the area. I can honestly say this is by far the best. Lovely food. Very tasty and fast delivery. Can’t fault this takeaway.

Ordered a chicken and prawn balti last night for 6pm got there at 5 50pm it was ready brought it straight home which is a minute drive got it straight on to plates it was COLD no way was this just cooked it was last nights warm up... chicken was not freshly cooked and prawns had no taste and where like rubber won't be back

Had a curry from this takeaway tonight and I’ve tried loads of others in County Durham and surrounding areas but this is the best in the business thanks so much Indian chef keep up the good work your foods amazing

Tried this takeaway once about 5 years ago, did not like the food at all, did not go back. Gave it another try tonight, my so called Bombay Aloo went down the toilet, disgusting, chopped potatoes thrown into a horrible sweet curry sauce. I am amazed at the good reviews this place gets ! Never again.

This is our 3rd order from Indian Chef after giving up on all the lack lustre curry houses in Consett. 3rd time we’ve been really impressed. Fantastic meals again, full of flavour & delivered well within the time they said. Love the food from here, despite the distance it’s well worth it. Tonight’s Tandoori Mixed Grill & Chicken Parthia, highly recommended

We ordered for 7:45 2 hours in advance however the food was still 1 hour late coming out at 8:39! Food was great can’t complain but the wait needs looked at. Thanks

Placed order online at 5.10pm to pick up straight away,travelled 5 miles to pick up to get there and they say it won't be ready till at earliest 6.30pm????1 hour 20 minutes to make 2 curries??? Won't be back

Ordered a starter, four main meals with rice, nan and poppadom. Nut Pullao was missing and after reckoning up using menu we were still overcharged £6. Not happy. Meal was tasty but the lad taking money needs to double check cost especially just using a calculator at desk.

Indian Chef is a very unusual takeaway. It's quite unlike many 'Indian' takeaways that rely on a menu of takeaway standards: korma, vindaloo, dupiaza. Indian Chef has a real, and very talented, chef who cooks dishes proudly based on Bangladeshi cuisine. The menu changes as in-house recipes are added: Baingam with mangos and aubergine, Modhu with coconut and honey. Wanting something simple and vegetarian, I ordered Sag Bhaji made from spinach and fresh herbs. Boring? Not at all. It was a rich, sharp veggie blend that went perfectly with steamed rice. Any of the dishes can be ordered with meat, or as a vegetarian option. Lanchester is well known for its restaurants and takeaways, and Indian Chef is to me a new discovery. I'll be back soon, Chef.

We have eaten here several times now and had meat/fish/veg and Vegan dishes. I have to say I fundamentally cannot fault it. Ring in order, always been ready to collect on-time. Food has been hot and delicious. Great selection of food, the young guy at counter is very helpful and humble. Smashing food, very reasonably priced and one of the best I’ve had in a long time.

The Indian Chef is a great takeaway at great value of money. You do get a lot of food so possibly worth splitting a naan/rice or going with a big appetite!

Food from here is generally good but very variable heat.However, in recent times things have changed and changed for the worse. Just picked up a food order for three people and only had two rices in the bag when we got home. Recently we have had a main course missing on two other occasions.The reaction from them - we will give you a free rice next time you come.They need to realise that food missing destroys the whole meal for every one as they are too far away to just go back for one piece.To cap it, tonight’s meal was inedible, massive amount of chilli and just way over spiced.Will never return and would recommend anyone to go somewhere else

Third time in succession that there was food missing in the order and all they can say is sorry we will give you a free rice next time you order. Incapable of putting 3-4 meals together and don’t know how to sort a problem when it happens. Spend your money elsewhere

Best Indian food in Lanchester.

Had the chicken tikka garlic, very rich & dark in colour.........loads of garlic but would give much better flavour if they minced the garlic & not slice it, garlic also was not fried but quite hard & makes sauce lumpy if they minced & fried it would be much nicer as chicken was really nice

Heard loads of good reports about this place so while we’re we at a friends house we went with their recommendation of trying here rather than somewhere in Consett. What a huge disappointment !! one of the starters was missing the food was stone cold and had to be heated in the oven, the nan was so cold it was almost frozen and probably had been, once the food was heated, it was the blandest Indian food I’ve had in a very long time on par with the rubbish served up at Rumi’s. I eat Indian food all the time and would never ever go back here, felt sorry for our friends that recommend this place they were mortified at how disappointing it was. Maybe it was a one off but this curry fan won’t be back and won’t be recommending here to anyone ps never had an onion Bhaji that tasted solely of salt before, too much salt hides bad food.

We have used this takeaway for 15 years and its always been good until tonight. The biryani vegetable curry sauce was tasteless, like a cheap vegetable soup. The tikka masala sauce was really runny and tasted completey different to their usual, also lacking in taste tonight. Very disappointed, wonder if they have a different chef.

This is by far the best Indian take away in the County. The food is always delicious and well presented served by the lovely family. I highly recommend this Take Away.

Mi cuñado vive a 10 minutos en coche, así que el viernes nos pedimos comida para llevar para 5 con 5 platos principales, pan y arroz y había suficiente comida para todos nosotros a £40. La calidad de la comida era muy alta, no demasiado grasos, un montón de carne y bien condimentadas con un montón de calefacción en algunos de los platos. El naan peshwari eran realmente buenos, que es una de las pruebas de comparación que utiliza para restaurantes indios. Este lugar es sólo para llevar.

I have had several of the offering from the menu as has my husband and we just love their food. Sometimes we get a selection in for a family meal and it's always a big hit with everyone.

The Indian chef would really take some beating for overall taste and quality. We regularly have a meal from here and it is consistently good. The lamb shaslik is a particular favourite, but whatever you choose, you will not be disappointed. The staff are friendly and polite and the place itself although quite small is very tastefully decorated. A really good choice and one we will certainly not stray from.

This is the only Indian takeaway I use excellent quality and never disappoints'curries are superb much much better than any other Indian takeaway in the area.

The food here is as good as the best Indian restaurants. Try the Dahl which is exceptional, and from the many visits we have made, we are yet to be disappointed with any of the main courses.

Ate from here and was very very poorly hours after. I had the mixed grill and and a few minutes started to look more closely at the meat which was not cooked as thoroughly as it should be. The shush kebab was red raw inside. Appalled and disgusted!

Yes I know its the indian chef but its affectionally known as this By quite a few of our friends. Anyway I highly recommend it, never had a bad meal from here. Full of flavour, not just heat, and using good quality meat. Nice waiting area and polite staff. Its a cut above usual takeaways. Shame they don't have a restaurant
