In Cafe Cardiff in Cardiff

The food is excellent, but the service was a bit hit and miss. The room would benefit from some softer lighting as it’s a bit like eating in an office.

Tucked away on Crwys Road, In Cafe offers authentic Cantonese cuisine reminiscent of dishes I had in Hong Kong and Guangzhou. The beef and ginger stood out! Great value for money, with a modern interior and attentive service. I’ll definitely revisit next time I’m in the UK and highly recommend it!

Ordered takeaway directly with the restaurant, for delivery. The delivery time came and went, we called for an update and were told it would be another 25 minutes. Half an hour later, we called for another update and we were told it would be another 10 minutes. In the end food arrived 50 minutes late (which was almost 2.5 hours from us placing the order). Terrible service, wouldn't order again.

The food is always exceptional for a great price.

When I was vegan I used to get takeaway from here all the time. They have such good vegan options, highly recommend trying it out!

Small interior, but it is the best Chinese food in Cardiff!

Esta fue nuestra primera visita a In Café, pero no podemos creer que no habíamos visitado antes. No nos dimos cuenta de que In Café es un restaurante chino superior, pero ahora lo hacemos. Es un restaurante bastante pequeño, pero tiene una sensación íntima. Pedimos una sopa vegetariana caliente y dulce y agria y un wonton de cerdo para empezar. Para la alimentación teníamos szechuan tofu y pato con setas. También añadimos fideos vegetarianos (que se recubrieron con una salsa de curry). Las porciones eran impresionantes y todo estaba sabroso. Una ventaja adicional fue tener cerveza china embotellada disponible. Definitivamente volveré para un lugar para almorzar durante la semana.

Amazing food with really lovely service! The waitress seemed to know basically all the regulars who showed up and overall the vibe was really friendly! Me and my partner were gonna get delivery but went in person on a whim and i’m so glad we did :) order the red bean freeze it’s amazing!

Went there for lunch today, listened to Cantonese singing, ate fried rice and drank milk tea, and it was like a quick trip back home! That’s right!

Grace was very accommodating and she and her team were very attentive to all our needs. Our vegetarian friends loved that there is an extensive choice for vegans/vegetarians as well.  The food we had was absolutely delicious and everyone agreed that it was one of the best Chinese meals they had eaten. The ‘In Cafe’ Crewys Rd. The restaurant is small and Cosy, seems to be family run. OMG the food is amazing so full of flavour. It was my first visit yesterday and I will defiantly return. You must try this place!

Been the this place a number of times and is our No.1 place for Chinese food and hospitality. The Food, Staff & Service is without doubt the best we've ever had. I can't give you a favourite dish, and that's because EVERY single dish I've tried is so incredibly amazing, fresh, so flavourful, and cooked perfectly. We recently celebrated our sons birthday here (18 of us) !! That's how confident we were that all our family and friends would love it...and they did (all of them) saying how amazing this place was. The staff are so attentive and polite, the service is on point, and the chef(s) must be from another planet. !! If we could give this place unlimited stars, then we would. Good food, great vegan menu. Staff were really friendly and very helpful re allergies. Food took a while but we were a pretty big group (13) so maybe if you're in a bigger group, ordering ahead might be an idea

I’ve been here many times specifically for their brunch options. It’s phenomenal. Baked Pork Chop Rice In Tomato Sauce and T233 Baked Chicken Chop Rice are highlights. Their red bean and sago pudding is also very refreshing.

I highly recommend the stir-fried rice noodles. The dryness of the fried rice noodles is very good. When I went on stage, the aroma was fragrant. The thick aroma of milk tea is exactly what I like. Thank you young people for their careful preparation. He and another young girl were both sincere and polite in their reception, with friendly smiles. The two hard-working shopkeepers are extremely hospitable to their guests, making this place feel like home.

It was our first time here, we came here for the vegan options, and oh boy, it's easily became our favourite place in Cardiff for Chinese. Dozens of options, vegan chicken, duck, pork, beef. The staff is lovely, the food was beyond amazing, normal portions, cute little cafe. 100% coming back! Update: we had our second visit on the 23rd of December, we got there quite early but they kindly let us in (and our small dog). The staff and owner are just so lovely, the food was again amazing, service is excellent. Both vegan and meat options are great, so everyone can enjoy various options. A must visit if you like asian food!

Excellent, absolutely authentic Hong Kong style taste. The baked pork chop rice is delicious, the dry-fried beef river is also delicious and not greasy, and the corn and fish fillets are crispy and delicious. Special salt and pepper flavor is Hong Kong fruit variety, recommended

We love coming here. The BEST LETTUCE wraps. We have visited 3 Chinese restaurants in this same street.we find this one edges against happy lok & an other can't remember the name. I find that even though this one has slightly higher prices , the portions are decent. There is a cute female waitress who is so attentive and polite who always has the most loveliest prettiest smile. Thank you. See you again soon

The food quality is really disappointing me when compared with those positive comments from the web. I am curious why people will say the baked tomato pork chop rice is authentic hk style? They are not using jasmine rice and the taste is absolutely not acceptable. The seafood dishes are not good as well, most of the clam flesh is already mixed with the sauce and the fried squid is overcooked. Is the original chef is not attending the kitchen that night? Besides, the owner is more enthusiastic in serving the local customers and she is showing off her fluent English. Actually, I feel not quite welcomed when we step in the cafe. Maybe we are speaking HK cantonese.

Real authentic Hong Kong cuisine. The pork bake rice, chicken bake rice is soooo soooo good, better the ones in Hong Kong.

Great food, amazing vegan options. Best salt and pepper "chicken" I've ever had! But, the prices for the portions aren't great, it's expensive and the dishes aren't that big. I also, had "beef" noodles which were okay could have had a bit more flavour. Amazing vegan options tho!

A hidden gem on our doorstep, amazing menu and more amazingly the main menu is mirrored in the veggie/vegan menu. Lovely friendly service and atmosphere and a fair price. Highly recomended

Simply exceptional. We've had one take away and three meals in the restaurant in just a few short weeks and each was so enjoyable. It's a small restaurant, so we recommed booking!

The food was excellent both in quality and quantity and at a very reasonable cost. The owner was very pleasant and friendly. Best Chinese we have had for a very long time. Will be returning very soon. Started with crispy duck and pancakes for 4. Duck was so nice. Then between the 4 of us we shared a variety of dishes including king prawn with noodles, chicken with noodles, beef with ginger and spring onion, black beef with potatoes and a large pork fried rice with 2 bowls of curry sauce. All the food was served nice and hot and was all delicious.

Food was absolutely delicious and freshly cooked. Flavours were fantastic and not gloupy like some Chinese restaurants. Best Chinese we’ve had in a while. The staff are very friendly and love how relaxed it was. Was quite noisy but in a small area this cannot be helped. Definitely will go back and also get a takeaway from here.

This is a restaurant you should not miss if you like traditional Hong Kong food! And better to reserve a table before you come!

Best Hongkong restaurant in UK and wouldn’t mind driving all the way from London only for high quality food and drinks they serve!

The cafe was very accommodating as we were late for our booking time by 40 minutes due to traffic. Good recommendations for dishes and the food was delicious and authentic Cantonese dishes from Hong Kong. Will go again.

My wife asked for Beef satay sauce, when the dish arrived it was certainly not what was ordered, we questioned the waiter who said that's what we asked for. When the bill came it was listed as a Beef satay sauce HOTPOT, it did not say that on the page we ordered from, if we had known it was a Hotpot, we would not have ordered it. Very disappointed with the service,and looking at the menu it's clear we were given the HK special dish with glass noodles, the waiter was at fault. We only visit this Chinese cafe, but we may not return after this, shame really. Update: I have spoken to the owner today, and she very generously gave us the correct dish, great customer service, will be back soon!

My partner asked for Beef with satay sauce, as described in the menu. What arrived was not what we expected, my partner ate it to not make a fuss. When the bill arrived it clearly showed that it was a Hotpot, it DOES not say this on the menu. This is the 2nd time we have been given the wrong dish. We questioned the waiter, but he said it was what we ordered. Very disappointed, as we regularly come here, but not sure we will return again.

I eat alot of Chinese takeaways and go to alot of restaurants and In cafe is by far the best I've ever been too. The food was delicious and staff were amazing. Cannot wait to go back there.

A table for 4 …starters of honey ribs, prawns and chicken in batter .. main egg fried rice, noodle's, chicken/blackbean sauce, sezuhan chicken, kung po duck and salt and chilli chicken loads of food , portion size ample and of excellent quality would highly recommend visiting or a great take away

Having ordered home food delivery from In Cafe many times, I decided it was finally time we tried eating in. We booked a table yesterday evening and ordered a selection from both the main and vegan menus. Every dish was superb. In Cafe really stands out for the choices they offer veggies and vegans... there are as many dishes available as there are on the standard menu. We particularly enjoyed the vegan salt and pepper squid, and vegan chicken balls. My dad loved his sweet and sour (real) chicken, and the special spicy fried rice with a combo of vegan chicken/pork/beef/seafood was absolutely superb. The staff did not stop smiling the whole time we were there, and it was clear a number of other groups who came in were regulars. Loved it and will be back time and time again I'm sure. ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐

Went here recently , There was a vast Vegan Menu on offer . I had the vegan menu and I really enjoyed the Vegan Black Pepper beef and Potatoes , The sweet and Sour Chicken , The Vegetable Fried Rice and the Prawnless Toast. So worth a visit

Me and my son went to this place for the 1st time yesterday before a gig in town. I'd heard some very good reports from others so we gave it a go. Wow !! This has to be by a mile the best Chinese food and service I've ever had. The welcome was amazing when we arrived. Everything on the menu looked and sounded amazing and the food was the best, most tastiest I've eaten for a long long time. We had the Salt & Chilli Spare Ribs (Incredible), the Lettuce Wraps (stunning) Hong Kong style Chilli Rice (OMG) and the Crispy Shredded beef ( knockout). Still keen to try more after that we decided to go for the French Toast Peanut Butter and Maple Syrup with Ice Cream dessert and OMG !! The best dessert I've ever had also. The service was 1st class, even one of the chefs came out to speak to us!! I'm going back 100% Again and Again and Again. Try stopping us. ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️10/10 Full Marks Best place ever .

We went there on Tuesday evening as it was our anniversary. The food was extremely delicious. Don't get fooled by the decor... It's very simplistic and neat and clean. We ordered some starters - mini spring rolls and chicken fried dumplings. We ordered 2 fried rice between the 4 of us. 1 Vegetarian Singapore noodles, 1 chicken in black bean sauce, 1 salt, and pepper chicken. The salt and pepper chicken was so delicious and tasty. The quantity of the food was excellent, and I thought we ordered too much as there were leftovers. I would recommend this to anyone.

We have just ordered takeaway from this restaurant, and we were so pleased with our order! I am vegetarian and was so happy to see such an extensive vegan menu! Usually I just have to order plain chow mein or chips, so I was overjoyed to be able to order meat alternatives and even vegan prawn crackers! My meat-eating friends were also very happy with their chicken and ribs. The food was cooked and ready within half an hour which we were also very pleased with. So far, this is the best Chinese we have tried in Cardiff!

The service was good and the food even better. Might feel a bit pricey for a single person, but the dishes are big and meant for share, so don’t let the price mislead you. Flavour and quality are definitely worth your time. Would recommend and will go back.

Real Hong Kong taste Hot milk tea is good Frozen lemon tea has good tea flavor My favorite at night is the Satay Fat Beef Vermicelli and Thin Beef Satay, which are rich and spicy but are a perfect interpretation of Hong Kong-style satay. For lunch, we have satay beef with fried rice, which is fried with rice noodles similar to Hsinchu until dry and not greasy! The West Toast is first-rate, crispy on the outside and soft on the inside Hong Kong-style Spicy Pork Fried Rice is a combination of shrimps, grilled pork, chicken and mushrooms stir-fried together. The wok-flavor is spicy enough to wake up the stomach. The highlight is the fried rice base.

We dined at In Cafe with friends last night and were so impressed with the quality of the food, the first class service and the warmth of the staff. The decor is basic to say the least but it didn’t matter. We’re certain to want to return for more of their delicious food!

We ended up here almost by accident as what would be our first and second choice restaurants in this area were both closed on the Monday evening we were dining but we most certainly did not regret it. We were a mixed party of two vegans (myself and my son) and two omni. The vegan choice was amazing and shadowed the main menu using meat substitutes where appropriate but also featured stand alone vegan dishes using bean curd and noodles. Quite literally there was something for everyone with my son and I being spoilt for choice (as vegans we often have to face very limited choices when eating out and you can only face so many veggie burgers) The quality of the food (which arrived very promptly accompanied by very friendly and cheerful service) was really excellent and we all agreed that this restaurant would most certainly be somewhere we would happily revisit. Very, very highly recommended for both vegans and non vegans.

Tried everywhere for a decent Chinese Takeawayin Cardiff. Read reviews for here,decided to travel across city to try it out. Still looking for a decent Chinese Takeaway. Can't understand how this place has garnered such great reviews. It was average at best,and not good value for money.

Superb food , good portions , bit pricey. We had Starter. Lettuce wraps. £11.50. Fab. Hubby has prawn crackers & chill sauce. Mains Me Pekingese chicken. Good size portion. £11-£12 Egg fried rice £5.50. Good portion. Hubby. Lemon chicken. Lovely . Again great size portion. Chips. Egg fried rice. 2 cokes. 2 beers. (Small) Total £76. 😱 They got bill wrong twice. 3 rd attempt got it right. Hope that was a genuine mistake. 🤔. So check bill. 🤔 It was Cold in there. Door doesn’t close properly. Just eat etc in & out. Should do so something about that. Like a heater above door like Mowgli up the road. Usually go to happy lok. They were closed. Glad found this. But next time we would share a rice. And as main portions big wouldn’t have starter. Hubby says happy lok still has the edge. I prefer here. As I love lettuce wraps. 😜

Called in on the off-chance today lunchtime ...made space for two of us at the window...really nice helpfull staff ...we had treyaki chicken,fried rice, noodles and some fried chicken dumplings ... very very nice ..was busy with a good atmosphere as more people came in . Will definitely return next time I am in the area. Called back I'm today six months later just before noon , the owner recognised us from one visit , thanked us for returning . We had another great lunch , great staff. Was very busy by the time we left , always a good thing . Will make it a regular stop for lunch when I am in Cardiff. Called in again today, reserved a table online in the week. As usual very friendly engaged and genuinely interested owners. Asked us about our reasons for returning and why we visit cardiff. Will be calling again I know during the year will be nice to try more of the menu.

Ordered a takeaway for collection this evening, I’m really disappointed in the food, not that tasty, not great quality and far more expensive than my usual takeaway. Thought I’d try this place for a change but I can’t understand all of the 5 star reviews, service was good, staff polite, attentive and the order was ready on time but that’s all I can say that’s positive. I feel ripped off. I never leave reviews but this has really annoyed me having travelled over from Penarth to collect and try it.

In Cafe is one of my favourite restaurants in Cardiff. From the majestic and flavourful food to the wonderful and helpful staff, every visit to In Cafe leaves me feeling full and with a smile on my face. As a vegetarian it’s so wonderful that In Cafe offers vegan alternatives for everything on their menu. This means you’re never spoilt for choice and there’s always something new to try alongside my regular favourites.

I spent over 4 years in Hong Kong 🇭🇰 and my wife is Cantonese so when she found this place we had high hopes. The food overall did not disappoint to bring back those familiar tastes and nostalgia. Still that being said you can see that the food was partially westernised. Still it was a lovely lunch meal, so much that we came back the next day.

A friend recommended In Cafe for a get together and I am so glad she did as it was wonderful. Absolutely delicious food, the service was amazing and the atmosphere was delightful. Will definitely be back again and will be recommending to everyone I know now as well!

I have been to this cafe a few times. Just love the food there. I had my Hong Kong Red Bean Ice for the first time in three years and it’s delicious!

15 visits total and 15 fantastic visits. As a vegan, Grace and the team go out of their way to serve the best vegan Chinese food I’ve ever tasted. Cardiff vegan scene for food has really picked up over last year or so. Will be only using InCafe for all my Chinese food.

Eight of us ate - four HK Chinese, six Welsh. The Cantonese did the ordering, Delicious. We were so happy both with the food and the service. My Chinese son-in-law is always critical and he was well pleased. We will cetrainly be going back.....

Found this spot by accident on a recent family trip to see our grandson who has just started in Cardiff. What an amazing find - lucky Cardiff. My partner who is from Hong Kong was almost reduced to tears of happiness, claiming that even in Hong Kong it is difficult to find food of such a high standard. Dish after dish of deliciousness together with friendly on point service and very reasonable prices. Well done!
