This used to be a really good place for Chinese, BUT that's no longer the case. The quality of food and service has dropped drastically. In the last 24-36 months, due to the increase in business. The food is poor compared with 4-5 years ago, with ingredients used being subpar when you understand real Chinese. The skills to make great food are no longer experienced. To give examples are Char Siu Buns, Cheong Fun and Congee. This is all due to having to rush all the food out to customers. Why? Is it to make turnover. Is it greed? It's a shame 2 new ish waiters are horrible. Both men in late 40-50. Their fingers were in the food, when they brought the dishes out, feels like the 80s hk or movies. One of them were drooling and luckily or unluckily, the saliva dropped on to our jacket. Sadly this is the only reasonable option for real Guandong dim sum. Only come here if you really really miss hk food...

The dim sums are great but other dishes are tasteless. It is normal for chinese food to be full of oil but it is not worth it if it is blanch. Stick to dum sums, never tried the European dishes. So, it can get worse with the quality of food.

Absolutely brilliant. Myself and my fiancé decided to try the Imperial Palace tonight (28/11/) as we’ve been on the hunt for some good dim sum and we were not disappointed! The food was fantastic and our server was great, very kind and friendly and gave some great recommendations for us including a combination meat dish which contained char siu, roast duck and pork belly which was gorgeous, hands down the best char siu AND pork belly either of us have had (and we eat out often!). I highly recommend the Imperial Palace and look forward to our next visit.

One of the best Chinese restaurants in Edinburgh, if you miss Hong Kong or Cantonese style dim sum, side dishes, or even fried noodles and rice, this is definitely a good choice. It's just far away from the city center, it takes 20 minutes to drive there. From the food quality and environment to the customers around you, you won’t feel like you are back in Hong Kong. Even the service level is definitely Hong Kong’s service efficiency and attitude 😂

It was really busy when I went in, I went around lunch time, probably because most of the dim sum menu is offered during lunch time. When we got our food, it tasted pretty okay. Nothing special really, but just decent quality dim sum. The portioning was satisfactory to me, I think they gave enough for each item. However, I ordered a duck with fried noodles and they gave a lot of noodles and not much of duck. A lot of the duck had bones stuck in them too so I wasn't able to eat much meat. The servers are respectful and courteous, we didn't interact much with them. If you are looking for some decent dim sum, this is the place to go.

I recently visited Imperial Palace Restaurant and, overall, had a great experience. The food was delicious, and the ambiance was delightful. The majority of the staff were courteous and attentive, making our dining experience enjoyable. However, I am giving 4 stars instead of 5 because of one incident that marred an otherwise perfect lunch. When I tried to get the attention of a waiter who was merely looking around the tables, he stared at me with an annoyed expression and walked past without stopping. This left me no choice but to stand up and go to the counter to ask for what I needed. Despite this, the rest of the service and the meal were excellent. I hope the management addresses this issue to ensure a consistently wonderful experience for all patrons.

Incredibly disappointed in this place. The place was chaos, loud, cold and with staff running around like headless chickens. The staff seemed more interested in resetting tables than interacting with customers. The ordering system is hard to work, one menu for a table of 7 with a card you fill in yourself. Even the waitress had to ask what we wanted after we completed it. The food isn't good. The rice was sticky and in big lumps. The duck was still attached to a layer of bone so you had to try and peel it with your teeth and fingers, the noodles were burned crispy on one side. It's expensive too. Would not recommend a visit to this place. Which is a shame because we had been there a few years before and had a good experience.

Ordered a carry out for pick up on Mother’s Day evening. Extremely annoyed and disappointed. The food was inedible. Barbecue ribs were so dry there was no meat on them. The sharing platter was also way overcooked and dry and was only fit for the bin. The food had clearly been sitting on the pass for some time. We were on time for the pick up and in fact had to wait. This was absolutely not a problem had the food been fresh. The mains were also cold, bland, greasy and totally underwhelming. I have eaten in this restaurant many times with no complaints but this experience has put me off ever ordering food there again. The total cost was nearly £60. Literally money down the drain. I would not recommend and will definitely not be back.

Went for my birthday on recommendation of my partner who lives nearby and uses take away often. Although the food was good the prices were extortionate! £18/19 for a main course without rice. I also felt that the staff couldn't have cared less about our business. When we arrived we were left standing at the desk for about 5 minutes with no-one acknowledging us. Once we were seated I felt the staff were rushing to take any orders - probably because there were not enough of them - there were no pleasantries or indeed any interaction apart from taking the orders. We were also disappointed to find out that the dim sum menu finished at 5pm which seems odd because that's what it is famous for. If the take away menu has been increased like the sit in one we won't be using it again.

This place was a great favourite of ours and we always used to look forward to a meal here. It was reassuring to see so many chinese people eating here so its obviously popular with the chinese community. However, this time the price for lunch had gone from is usual £30--£40ish to well over £70. This was hard to believe. Price per dish had rocketed and we were surprised and disappointed to find that even after paying eg £19 for lemon chicken, the rice (for one) was an additional £7. It wasn't as if the food was any better. In fact one dish was such a gluey mess and had such a nasty flavour and texture that we couldnt eat it. These prices are unfathomable to us and can only assume that its a special menu with special prices that will certainly drive away non Chinese customers. They've lost us anyway.

Taste authentic, tasty, all that you expect from a decent dim sum restaurant. Cheong fan with prawn so juicy and soft, the flavour was just well-balanced. Do try their fried dim sum as well cause it was fried into perfection, crunchy from the outside and still juicy flavourful from the inside. I experimented of ordering chicken feet with wine sc but it didn’t really suit my liking, save yourself for the regular chicken feet next time. I ordered a special curry with fried rice. Price £11:50.. it's a bit on the high end for my liking. I asked for it extra spicy. green chillies were added 👌 Beef, pork chicken, and prawns were all tasty. The pork was a bit tough. No biggy. Overall, it was good,i would consider getting it again.. but I can get it £1.50p cheaper elsewhere.

What an awesome surprise! I had chicken kayak curry and my colleague had ramen. And we shared sushi to try. Everything was delicious, super tasty and good price quality. I definitely recommend plus it's doggy friendly!

Disappointed for our 2nd time in a row. Standards have dropped. Many of the dishes were no more than a little warm and not really tasting as labelled. Pancakes were over boiled and all stuck together/soggy. No puff soup(my wife's favourite) again..!!

The boss uncle was so nice that he gave us a dish, fruit and sugar water, which made us feel embarrassed🙈The barbecued pork and roast goose tasted very authentic Hong Kong style, and the most important thing was that it was not oily! The other dishes are also delicious! Highly recommended!
