Imlees in Birmingham

Very disappointing experience. Joined friends for a meal. I ordered tandoori fish, my meal arrived late, had obviously been forgotten. Was served with 4 chunks of white fish with a red something drizzled on top, salt granules and a few strips of lettuce. Was dreadful, could not eat it. There was only one waiter, service was slow and portions small. Would not go back.

Food is tasty, however could be a little more authentic with flavours. The staff are all friendly and provide great service. The portion size are very generous leaving loads to take home!

Pretty much the best curry to be had in Moseley. Consistently tasty food and friendly service. Cash only though, so pop to the cashpoint first.

Lovely food and a really good place to eat. It's a bit old school as it takes cash only but otherwise at least fornour visit it was a faultless experience.

Don't waste your time here. Food taste rubbish at times cold. Rats all over the place dumb people can't speak English these people don't know anything about hygiene and there water smells never went there again and never will. Don't waste your hard working money here.

We had a lovely time here, the food is delicious and the owner is really friendly and looked after us well! I would highly reccomend this place to anyone who wants good food and a great evening. :)

went here with two friends last night, hadn't been there for a very long time, so was looking forward to a revisit. Good atmosphere in the restaurant, but we were sort of left to choose our own table, no one really did a meet and greet when we arrived. Service was good and we were given menus pretty quickly. We then placed our orders (we had brought our own wine). There were two things that irritated my husband and I though - there was a diner who seemed to know the front of house guy and although he had come into the restaurant well after we had sat down, he was served with his food well before we were, and he also seemed to be smoking with a vape (and there was clearly a No Smoking sign on the door to the restaurant!). The food was enjoyable, but we found our particular dishes quite salty, and my husband's fish starter (cannot remember what it was called, but it was the first on the list of fish specials) was quite dry and chewy. My salmon starter was delicious! Perhaps a touch overcooked, but delicious nonetheless! Our main courses were nice, but the Bhindi bhaji was drowning in a rich tomatoey sauce, and there seemed to be more tomatoey sauce than bhindi. The restaurant were only accepting cash payments, there was no explanation as to why we couldn't use credit cards. Not terribly keen on the lurid green raita either - a bit on the sweet side really.

Been hear a few times now. There is always just one guy working at the front. I know these are hard times, but come on! If there are more than 5 tables, the customers won't get the service they need. The food is good, the atmosphere and location are also good. Just invest in another member of staff or don't be in the restaurant trade.

Visited with my boyfriend for a casual curry on a Saturday night. We didn’t realise it was bring you own booze but it wasn’t an issue as there’s a co-op across the road. It’s also cash only, but again there’s a cash machine near the post office on the high street so no issue. Overall the food was good, although main meal portion sizes were on the small size for a curry house. I’m not sure whether they had the heating full blast or it was the heat from the kitchen but it was very hot in the restaurant. We were ready for some fresh air after our meal so left quickly. I’d visit again for a casual curry

Awful service. Items missed of the order. "Waiter" then comes over and instead of an apology starts to aggressively state why I wouldn't have liked that menu option anyway. Worst service in years. Food not good enough either to balance the bad service experience

Really friendly restaurant with agreat range of South Asian food. Each different and authentic. It is BYO so also very reasonably priced.

Came across Imlees Restaurant by chance, when looking for an alternative " Curry House " fairly close to where we live in Solihull and not in the usual Balti Triangle area which we usually frequent. Despite looking at previous reviews here, we decided to make our own minds up about the place and the food it serves . Well to say we were not at all disappointed is a Gross Understatement.... We cannot understand any of the negative reviews we have read here, as our experience last night was totally the opposite..... From the initial greeting by the owner Javid, to his attentive service throughout the evening, he more than helped to create a welcoming atmosphere in this wonderfully decorated and furnished restaurant. Why we have never tried this particular place before escapes us, but we are so glad that we did, as the food can only be described as AMAZING ! Both our starters and main dishes were VERY TASTY with soft succulent chicken and were well presented in modern design crockery dishes and on plates, all of which had been heated ( a definite first for us, as all of the other restaurants we've ever been to, have always served meals on cold plates, so the food however warm, loses its heat almost immediately ). The naan bread and rice we ordered were both superb too. Last but not least, as we always think this is a very important issue within any restaurant establishment...the toilets were very clean and immaculately maintained, Already booked for 6 of us to return in just over a week's time and can't wait to try out more of Imlees delicious Menu and recommend it to all of our other friends too. Have just returned home from a night out with my best friend on a Christmas night out. Rushed fir our order, not asked if we wanted any soft drinks or water, even though glasses in tables.. when I went to pay, told I had poppadoms which I didn’t have. Said we weren’t asked for water with a reply ‘ you should of asked ‘ ,, when leaving we said how rude to be told ‘ you’re lucky we served you ‘ . We were in and out within 30 minute with other people still inside, they told us they were calling .. very disappointing, as food was lovely but customer service was appalling, will not recommend this restaurant

We have had several takeaways from Imlees, they are now by far our Indian takeaway of choice in Birmingham. Excellent food, always on time and friendly, attentive staff. Would definitely recommend!

Imlees is our " go to " place for a curry and never dissapoints ..Last nights meal was superb! Lamb Tawa, Chicken tikka bhuna accompanied by garlic fried rice and Garlic and Coriander naan really was gorgeous BYO too so great value...Lots of choice in Moseley , but this is the best !

Wendt for a meal with friends first time since lockdown. Had been before pandemic it was always great. Bur last nights food was even more amazing! Syed was most helpful and very efficient. We never had to wait long for the food but when it arrived omg! It was to die for. My friend had a mixture of starters and i had a balti so we dipped into each others (covid friendly ovs) we were not disappointed with a single thing. I would urge anyone to pay this restaurant a well worth visit. Keep up the good work chef and staff i will deffo be back soon. Excellent.

Food was absolutely disgusting & cold I had to take the food back after I paid for delivery AVOID

Visited with my partner and my friend and her daughter. The starters were awful. My chilli paneer was really sweet and I couldn't eat any of it. They saw me not eating it but didn't come and ask why, or ask if everything is ok. When they took the plates away, I said I couldn't eat it because it's so sweet and that was not how it was described on the menu. He still charged me for it, and just said 'have you not had it before?'. Yes I have in other restaurants and it is not like that! Then the main (garlic chilli chicken) was a bag of sugar too - so sweet. Again couldn't eat it. My partners curry was bland. My friend said hers was ok. All in all, food wasn't good, they didn't space people out very well so not particularly covid safe. Poor service. They had the cheek to keep the change too - £7! which we had to ask twice for and eventually this was given to us but they clearly weren't happy with us asking for it. I am not leaving a tip when I have paid for food I didn't eat !

I had booked in advance for a friday evening for my mothers birthday. However, upon arrival, they had no recollection of our booking and shoved us by the window. We were ignored for 30 minutes whilst the restaurant started to fill up. My mother had to go to the counter to remind them we were there, to which they asked where we were sat... Once the orders were taken and the food started to arrive we were pleased with the food. Compared to other curry houses in the area, the portions were slightly small, but everyone was content with the taste. It is such a shame the staff let down the overall service and we will be unlikely to return as they kept their change assuming they had earned a tip with their poor service.

Guy just took our money as an assumed tip then eat and had dinner with his family. Just rude. Food was average

Great to find such a good place on a Monday night

I came here a few years ago and I must say the food especially the bagarra dishes were amazing, after visiting again the standards are exactly as I remembered a few years back. This shows the commitment of this restaurant to keep up the standards, as we know standards can go up but to keep that standard to the highest levels is the most hardest bit and this place has achieved this and beyond. Great customer service and a fast and efficient service even in busy periods which shows the organisation levels. I will come here more often now I have seen what I have missed out in the past few years. I recommend to try this place out to see for yourself.

The manager is not a nice guy to speak. He was rude on the phone and while making an order. Their food was not good as well. I would not waste my money like this again.

Twelve of us had booked for a friend’s birthday. We have eaten here before and it was fine; hence the repeat booking. The restaurant was reasonably busy but by no means full. Despite this, no-one took our orders for over an hour, and it then took another hour and a quarter for our food to arrive - we were only having mains. When it finally arrived, my main (paneer tikka masala) was lukewarm and had obviously been standing around for some time. The naan bread was good, but no naan bread is so good that I am prepared to wait over two hours for it. My wife had katwi curry, which was apparently very good, but I am afraid my previous comment still applies. I am not sure anyone had the energy to complain in the end, but rather than the manager taking responsibility and apologising to our party, the restaurant had their most junior member of staff clear our table, and absented himself. I can’t remember the last time I was so unimpressed with a restaurant.

Sort the take away out: why did you forget our two orders of Chicken Tikka Masala this Thursday? It wasn't a big order. Plus: my Chicken Madras was shockingly bad: lots of lengths of slit green chillies and what tasted like Thai sweet chilly sauce added to it. I judge a place by its Chicken Madras and this is a new low.

Often visit Imlees with friends, when in Moseley and they never disappoint us. Great starters, especially the Garlic Chilli Chicken and very tasty Balti for main are something I would thoroughly recommend.... Well worth a try in my opinion.

This has to be one of the best Asian restaurants in Birmingham. The abundance of options in the menu is commendable and the atmosphere was great too. Tried out lamb chops and garlic chili chicken and it was mouthwatering. Will definitely visit again with friends now.

Had a great food experience here, the environment was calm and enjoyful. Enjoyed a lot and had a tremendous experience. Would suggest everyone to have a visit once and get an experience.

Went for a birthday meal, staff were too busy eating themselves to serve us! Restaurant was a mess they hadn't cleaned empty tables with food and bottles.

Went here Saturday 1st June, what a mistake. We were a party of 12 family & friends to celebrate a birthday, there was only 4 other people in there, should have known empty restaurant not good.

My wife and I joined friends on Tuesday 14th and overall it appeared that everybody enjoyed their meal as there was nothing left on our plates. I personally had Seekh Kebab, Saag Gosht and Garlic and Coriander Nan. It was good to able take our own drinks. The service was attentive and there is no service charge.

I went as part of a big group for Xmas. Not been before. It was one of the best curries I’ve had. The food also came served in beautiful authentic dishes which added to the theatre of it. Our groups was not quiet so they did well to put us upstairs. Well worth going back for a quieter meal.

We’ve been here loads of times. It used to be our go to curry house. Always had decent food and service and good value, plus the added advantage of being able to take your own booze. Not any more. I don’t know what’s happened, but last night’s visit was appalling. We waited well over an hour for our starters and two for our mains. There were 7 of us, and neither of us had anything positive to say about the food, probably because we weren’t hungry by the time the food eventually arrived. The staff looked like headless chickens, totally unable to cope with a fairly busy service. We weren’t the only ones to complain about the lengthy wait. I shan’t be back.

The food was absolutely wonderful, from preparation to presentation, very pleasing. Food quality is best and has several choices dish. The presentation is additionally smart with friendly and that they serve food. The food was delicious and the workers were friendly. I have been a supporter of this restaurant since it opened and loved it. Oh dear... I went tonight and ... 1 I hour for starter 2. 1 hours for mediocre main So sad. Will not come again.

I will highly recommend Imlees as one of the best Indian restaurant in Moseley, Birmingham. Its a place to visit when you need quality and affordable meals. They have nice and tasty meals and i will visit again and again. Welldone Imlees moseley and thumbs up.

I was in town for a couple of days and was craving for something Desi, saw this place on the internet and I thought that I might as well give it a try. Thank God for the decision, this was hands down the best Indian food I've ever eaten. This restaurant is going to be my go-to place whenever I'm here. Everything from food to service was top quality. I honestly can't think of anything bad to write, it was just that good.

Had a fantastic meal with friends. Decor is very posh but prices are very reasonable. Their gosht was melt-in-your-mouth, and everything else we ordered was lovely and authentic. Extremely delicious food all around, and the service was excellent. Definitely will visit in the future!

We often go to Imlees and every time we go there we're always very pleased with their service. The quality of their food is excellent especially the best Indian meals desi biryani, the garlic chili chicken and rice delicious. Along with the food Hakka Dhaka Baily Road also has a very warm, friendly and inviting environment with excellent customer service. It's an amazing restaurant with great food, me and my family love this place. Wishing them all the best.

One of my friends suggested this place. Now, I'm not a big fan of Indian food and I was a bit skeptical, but honestly, this place changed my entire perspective. The food was delicious, the atmosphere was comfortable and everything was clean and tidy. The people here are so friendly too. They just made a customer for life. 100% Recommended

Truly excellent food - fresh, creative, full of flavour. The staff were incredibly friendly and helpful, and everything was delivered to us promptly. We were there at a busy time and we still didn't have to wait. A really excellent experience.

I frequent this restaurant quite regularly along with my family.I always enjoy the high quality of food.I have known their staff to be helpful and polite they always provide excellent service.I recommend the Tawa Lamb or Desi Murgh.

Passed through Moseley and had lunch at Imlees. As I walked into the restaurant, I was politely greeted by friendly staff who directed me at one table and asked for what I would want for my lunch. Ordered an Asian dish and all I have to say is that I was really delighted by what I ate! Ordered a drink afterwards and it was ice cold. Will definitely pass by on my next visit to Birmingham. Highly recommend Imlees.

Fantastic place. We do visit other places in Moseley, but we always tend to come back here to eat. The starters and main courses are always brilliant. Service is always welcoming and friendly. Restaurant is clean and spacious. Best of all they let you bring your own drinks too.

I can’t believe we walked past Piquant to eat at Imlees. The service was impeccable but the food was just awful, paneer was like chewing gum and dyed deep red, lamb chops were bland and mains were curious to say the least! It’s clearly a very popular place but not for anyone who knows what good curry tastes like!

Service waiters gave was brilliant they also were very friendly despite being so busy on Saturday night. Food was exceptional, loved Kheema Balti and Mushroom spinach and veg balti. My husband loved the Kebabs.best place to eat in Moseley.

20 of us had our annual Xmas party here. We had a set meal. The mix starter was fantastic. For main course I had was chicken Bhuna, which was nicely spiced. Service was good considering it was busy upstair. Everyone enjoyed their meal. I will be looking to visit again before the new year!

Disfrutamos de una cena aquí. Las salsas de popadom eran muy sabrosas y los bhajis de cebolla eran realmente buenos, ligeros, recién cocinados y entre los mejores que hemos probado. Las vegas samosas eran bonitas pero bastante estándar. Los platos principales de la patia vegetariana eran dulces / picantes sin demasiada papa y el jalfrezi vegetariano era excelente, de nuevo con coliflor en lugar de papa. El arroz al vapor era ligero y el pan naan era fresco y ligero. El servicio fue amable, rápido pero un poco olvidadizo.

Tuvimos una comida horrible en el restaurante Imlees anoche, el pescado tandoori estaba muy cocinado y seco. El plato principal que podría llamarse un curry al igual que los tomates con chile, extremadamente amargo al gusto y paneer resistente como el cuero! No hay carta de vinos, solo casa roja y casa blanca.

El sábado pasado fuimos a Imlees sin reserva. Nos dieron una buena mesa en la ventana. He comido aquí varias veces en el pasado, ya que es local para mí. Sé que la gente tiende a tener preferencias por los restaurantes de estilo indio, así que es un asunto subjetivo, pero mi familia y yo calificamos este lugar muy bien.

I've wanted to try here for a while. Finally we made it tonight. Service is great. Staff are very assertive and nice. Food is just lush. Not too much or full of fat. I would highly recomend the tawa. We will defo be back

Imlees is an absolute gem. My friends and I went for my birthday and I couldn’t have had a more lovely experience. The restaurant itself looks very posh and bright, but the prices are extremely reasonable for the amazing food we got.

Went here last Tuesday. The restaurant was quiet as it was a Tuesday. There is plenty of choice on the menu. But I prefer going for the house specials rather than the traditional dishes. I had the manchoosi which was lovely. Definitely a place I would visit again

Went to this place after t20 game on a Friday night with a few mates. We had starters I had the mix grill which was delicious. For main course I had the garlic chilli chicken and a rice. They let you bring your own drinks, which we did by the nearby Sainsburys.

Booked a table for 6 here for after the Mosely Folk Festival. Was told that they normally close earlier but would be staying open because of the footfall from the festival. Asked us to call when we were leaving Mosely Park to notify them.

Had a birthday party here recently. The decor is amazing. We had the chilli chicken and Kerala fish fry to start. Both delicious. I had the Lamb Bhuna and Keema Naan. The bhuna was nicely spiced and tasted delicious. The service was fast and friendly.

Do not go here !!! We have visited twice, our first visit we had a hair in our nann bread, when complained they did not apologise and did not take off our bill. Our second visit going back for a friends birthday was despicable -,very rude manager (grey haired old man) and terrible service.plenty of better restaurants around.
