Waited 30 mins to order when only 3 other couples in the restaurant. Food then took an hour to arrive and when arrived was so disappointing. Waitress did her best , our fourth time but will certainly be our last !

My husband booked the restaurant for our anniversary and after reading some negative reviews on this website we decided to honour the booking and keep an open mind. The restaurant was lovely and the 1 member of staff was very friendly and polite. She took our drinks order straight away and when she served the drinks she took our food order. 50 minutes later our food was served even though there were only 4 other customers in the restaurant. The restaurant was also very cold which made it difficult to relax. After our mains we ordered dessert only to be told that the dessert I had ordered wasn’t available and I could either order something else or wait 10-15 minutes whilst they picked it up from another restaurant. As we were really feeling the cold we decided to pay the bill and go to another restaurant where we could have our dessert hopefully in a warmer atmosphere. It’s such a shame that this was our experience as I don’t think we will be visiting there again.

A great local restaurant with exceptional food. The menu was varied with a good choice of first class dishes. I think appropriately priced given the high quality. Very clean and friendly place and caring staff to look after you. A very nice faultless enjoyable meal out and I will look forward to returning.

Overall very poor. Overpriced 7 quid for a beer Belly pork on pasta 24quid 8oz Ribeye with chips 45 quid 6oz fillet with chips 55 quid. Sat me and my partner next to a group if 20 when the pace was empty. We asked to be moved back to the bar so we could actually hear ourselves. GLUTE FREE menu is not all gluten free Bar staff and waiters do try there best that is the only positive from here

Been to il mullino 4or 5 times and usually very good if a little expensive. Another visit today for another birthday meal with family and have to say it will be my last. Food was not good , not very hot on plates that were cold and appallingly slow to arrive on a very cold evening. Staff in the main very good but the person who appeared to be in charge needs to learn to smile!.

I think this place is very expensive for what you get. Two small piece of focaccia bread are like a fiver. The fillet steak though tasty was very small and expensive for a 250gram steak. The staff whilst enthusiastic and well meaning, were very young and poorly trained. My sister had her starter for 8 minutes before the rest of the tables arrived. An okay but expensive meal.

I am not one to write a bad review but was so disappointed this evening. My friend and I arrived despite a very stormy night. We almost cancelled but were looking forward to trying this restaurant which for me was a first. We were thinking il mulino could become our 'local'. We were shown to our table straight away but were very soon aware that most people had their coats on. The room was freezing. We asked one of the staff if they could turn the heating up. We ordered food and drinks and again checked the heating status to be told this time that the boiler was broken. Whilst the manager was very apologetic we decided to leave as there wasn't any alternative seating available.. I feel that we should have been given an option before we ordered. The staff were obviously very aware of the poor conditions in the restaurant. My friend checked the temperature on his phone which was showing 'feels like - 4 degrees' So. We actually had our first course which was only OK. Not enticing enough to make us want to brave the cold and stay for the rest of our meal.

I was really looking forward to visiting this restaurant, the whole experience was very disappointing. We waited 45 minutes for the table, 2 of the main pasta dishes were not available, several other tables had complaints, we waited another 40 minutes for the starters to arrive no one asked if everything was ok with our food, the portions were really small, 2 x2 inch pieces of what was supposed to be focaccia with the starter, cold main meals and really small portions again and no staff came to check if our meals were ok. Wouldn’t recommend.

Second visit, second 5* review. I never review twice but I can’t not review again as it was an incredible evening. I’m very shocked at the recent 1* review. We visited last Saturday evening and everything was exceptional, again. Still Michelin quality food and service. The wine and coffee equally exceptional.

Tonight was a take out pizza sort of night. We tried the Il Mulino Ristorante Italiano & Bar pizzas - WOW! They were amazing, light and tasty base, rich and flavoursome tomato sauce, then there were the toppings....delicious!

Restaurant completely empty except for us. Lunchtime on a Wednesday. Service pleasant but food service very slow, took an hour between starter and main. Food very mediocre indeed. Beef tough and not very flavoursome. Shame as looked like a nice place if there had been more staff it might have been good.

Lovely little place this, been here before and it’s always a nice, quiet place to enjoy the food and drink with loved one. The one little criticism and it is little, the prices are expensive for the food but the food is good. (A guess you get what you pay for) Without the 20% off it was £130 for two of us. Which is MCR prices so make sure you go when there are offers on. Services was a little slow last night too, waiting 10-12 mins for extra bread but it was generally very good.

Overall feeling after our visit....underwhelmed and will not be returning or recommending. The food was average and had some odd tastes, not enough good pasta dishes. We were seated on a very large table unsuitable for five people, needed a megaphone to have a conversation due to the other party with a screaming baby. The restaurant itself has some nice touches and the wc's were clean and tidy. The food though was underwhelming, some of it was nicely cooked but we just didn't really like the flavours that much, the chicken dish had an odd after taste, no offer of black pepper or parmesan. The staff seemed young and inexperienced, we felt a little forgotten at times. There are far better places.

This was our first visit to Il Mulino . Initial impressions were very good , seating decor and lighting all impressive. We had a drink in the lovely bar area before being taken to our seats. We liked the idea of the ‘wine cave ‘ from where we chose a very nice bottle of Chianti. Three of our group chose the mackerel starter and I had the burrata, we all then had the chicken main with some sides. Everything was very good , nicely presented and perfectly seasoned . We finished with the torte nonna and cheeseboard , both excellent. Service throughout the evening was perfect. Thoroughly recommended, we look forward to our next visit

Michelin level food and service. The wine cellar experience was unique and exciting. Every dish was extremely well balanced using the best local produce. Friendly service and decor of the restaurant was beautiful. A very special restaurant, looking forward to a return visit! Only small recommendation would be to include which dishes are gluten free or could be adapted to a GFO on the menu itself.

What a beautifully appointed restaurant and bar Il Mulino is. The quality and decor of the building is first class and impeccably finished. The menu is really well put together with small eats, starters, nibbles etc before you consider the mains. No wine menu...... even better they take you to a small wine room to choose your own which is a brilliant idea as looking and reading the labels brings you closer to your choice. Food was superb. Compliments to the staff and above all the Chef and team. Everything super fresh. I cannot recommend Il Mulini enough. We will be back!

I visited here with colleagues for a mid-week evening meal. There are some great deals on such as early bird where you get three courses for £16.95. I opted for that as the options I was going to get for starter and main were on there anyway and it worked out cheaper to do that than order them from the main menu (plus I got dessert in the early bird price too!) Starter of fried halloumi was really nicely cooked and a perfect sized portion. My colleague had calamari but they felt it was a bit soggy for their liking. For main I had penne dolca vita which was really tasty, It was nicely cooked, had a decent kick and flavour and was suitably portioned. Dessert I had ice-cream which was fine. Overall we had a good evening here and the food was a standard expected of a good Italian restaurant. Service was friendly and generally efficient. Would recommend for a good value Italian meal

We have been here several times over the last few years as we love the food and have never had a bad experience with it. Our latest visit for my wife's birthday was a mixed experience for us. The food was superb as always but we were let down massively by the service. The staff are all very friendly but there appeared to be no management of the staff. There did not appear to be a server assigned to a group of tables rather each member of staff just served who they could. The problem with that is that none of the staff appeared to know what each other member of staff had done or not done and didn't know were tables were up to. We were left feeling abandoned and had to flag staff down to order more drinks and then subsequently chase drinks and also chasing staff to provide us with dessert menus. Overall a disappointing experience for my wife's birthday.

Visited this bar/restaurant with my daughter for a birthday get together. What an absolute gem this place is. Classy and clean interior, lovely ambiance and delicious food. Staff were incredibly kind and couldn’t have been more helpful. Have visited Ormskirk many times (daughter is at Uni there) but this was my first visit to the Old Post Office, definitely won’t be my last. Overall fabulous place! Thank you

I’ve visited a number of times, the food has always been excellent and the service has been just as good. I tried the sticky chicken for starter and it was amazing, followed by the slow roasted lamb which was great.
