Have been coming to this place for years now. And this place always lives up to your expectation . Had a great dinner last night . The owner Rogero is quite chatty and our usual server Darshna always looks after us .. what is not to like.

Called in for a meal at 6 pm there was only one out he person in. My pizza was ok at best, my wife wanted canolloni, none left. She had a calazoni pizza instead, it was very bland and came with half a plate of salad leaves. Once served nobody came to ask if everything was ok or if we wanted any dressing or pepper. When I complained I was told the salad was for decoration and not for eating. When the bill cane they had the cheek to add a service charge. When I told him I wasn’t paying that he never apologised and muttered something under his breath. Only eat here if you want to throw your money away.

I had the three colori salad and the spaghetti napoli. They were both absolutely excellent and so was the service. I would expect such a place to be higher up in the tripadvisor rating.

This was our return visit after a few years. First time good, friendly service but not very good food. This time, because it offered omelette for my husband at dinnertime and it was close to our hotel, we tried it again. Service was poor, slow and not cheery as before. My fish would have been fine except for the tomato sauce covering it. So again it hadn't improved in our view. Good if desparate for an omelette or nowhere else appeals.

When I arrived.Tuesday evening,what I really noticed was a lot of Italian spoken by the restaurant patrons a very good sign, a restaurant for Italians run but London Italians.Just what you need after work. Everyday dining that everyone would enjoy unpretentious bench seating, welcoming host, surroundings good, food just what Mama would cook. Looking for good food and good service.Support these lovely people running a good honest Italian eatery in the midst of Bloomsbury. Pizza quattro formaggi looked to die for. The Spanish dining next to me loved it. The restaurant host took time to greet me asked which table would be good. Had a lovely glass of red wine. I had calamari which was freshly fried and had the hallmark of hand battered fried calamari with flick of the wrist batter drips a sure sign of fresh batter quality. Family with son in wheelchair accommodated with ease smiles all round. Leisurely service. Pictures on the wall of Palermo and Amalfi amongst others.Antonio served me chef Miguel chicken which I loved. Well done.not fine dining but well worth it.

The last three times I have eaten out in London at a place chosen by someone else, it has been dire. This place was chosen by friends staying in a hotel nearby, and more than lived down to my expectations. Old school Italian can be very good indeed, if it is delivered with passion and integrity rather than cynicism and greed. Both passion and integrity were sadly lacking here. Fried squid (£8.95) came in soggy, under-seasoned batter and the squid rings themselves tasted of little. A seafood pizza (£13.50) was more proficiently cooked, but the main 'seafood' element was canned tuna. We didn't have sides (except for a couple of portions of garlic bread which I avoided for the sake of my marriage) or dolce, and coffee was dire. The wines were ok and reasonable value. Service is very slow even though the restaurant was not particularly full. At £70 for three I might have put it down to experience. At over £120 it made me rather angry.

It must be the best gnocchis I have eaten for a while tender in a delicious cheese sauce. The tiramisu was also luscious. Thank you

We had just booked into our Hotel, The Morton Hotel, about 5 minutes walk away, and wanted something to eat. We both fancied a Pizza. My wife spotted a Pizza Hut, but almost next door was Il Fornello. We checked the menu and while doing this one of the waiters asked us in. The best Pizza we had ever tasted, and we've been to Naples!!

You need to try this - forget the pubs and eat here. Go to the pub afterwards. The meat is excellent, service is perfect and the desserts are to die for!

Cuando un restaurante está vacío, en general siempre suele ser un indicador de la calidad del lugar, pero debido a la franja horaria en la que nos movamos (debían de ser las 10 y para ser Londres es bastante tarde) decidimos entrar, al llegar el trato nos pareció agradable pero al rato comenzó a ser intenso y muy incómodo, error nuestro nos decidimos por pedir unas ensaladas ya que era nuestro objetivo esa noche, y a nuestro favor antes de entrar y de mirar la carta informamos de que ese era nuestro objetivo para cenar, como entenderéis fue un desastre absoluto y un timo, sino no estaríamos escribiendo esto que tan desagradable nos resulta, pedimos dos tipos distintos y nos traeron dos réplicas, crudas, de bolsa y si me apresuras hasta sin lavar, y al reclamar que no era lo que habíamos pedido, de malas maneras nos la retiran y nos la traen alegando que ya lleva "más ingredientes de los indicados en la carta", sin informarnos de que esto, reclamar lo que habíamos pedido desde un principio nos iba a suponer un suplemento en la cuenta!!!! Después el agua o podría decir gotas de manantial del mismísimo bali, a precio de horo la botella casi 6 euros y habiendo pedido una pequeña nos traen la grande, el lugar estaba sucio y era desagradable, por favor si estáis pensando en ir, repensarlo

Es un buen restaurante, con comida típica italiana, bien atendido por mozos que hablan algo de español y eso ayuda un poco para quiénes no dominamos tanto el inglés.. precios razonables para lo que es Londres en general

Popped in for a quick lunch before heading for the station and home. The only visible member of staff was on the phone and after a while we got up to leave. However the call finished and she came to serve the other person and us. We chose the lasagne which came after a reasonable wait but it was scalding hot on the outside and lukewarm in the middle whilst the top of mine was very scorched. The other customer had to ask for Parmesan and the pepper grinder but they were brought to us. Whilst tasty we found it very heavy and both regretted our choice later on. A service charge was added to our bill but by then we were in too much of a hurry to argue.

Went for a lunch time meal had a pasta dish. Very hot and well cooked in the main.Surroundings are a little worn and staff (possibly due to staff shortages) somewhat lacking in service.

We went here on Saturday night, it wasn't very busy and I can see now why it wasn't. My carbonara was tasteless and had a real cheesy taste to it (not good if you don't like cheese, like me). I had a prawn cocktail to start which was just old bits of lettuce (brown) with prawns scattered on it and a dribble of marie rose sauce. We had three steaks all ordered medium but came out with blood running out of them. One of them was sent back (snatched off the table and then the chefs told off) and took so long to come back out again everyone else had finished their meals so we didn't want it. The main problem was the guy serving us, he was really quite cross that we didn't want that steak anymore and argued (yes proper argued) with us about it. The calamari was like rubber bands too.

I would like to say that contrary to the reviews below, I visited the other day and had a perfectly decent spaghetti and sauce at Il Fornello. They were happy to accommodate additional ingredients and the spaghetti had exactly the right consistency.

title says it all. Just terrible. Indifferent, angry, waiting staff; eyewateringly overpriced, tasteless, served with as much enthusiasm as stepping over a dead dog. Really awful. Avoid. I've never written such a harsh review but take it from me.. Avoid.

We have been reguler customers at Il Fornello for nearly 20 years, and for the last two or three yars we have noticed a considerable decline in both service and standard of food. Every time we have hoped that the staff will be back on track, but our experience when we visited the restaurant on New Years Eve (last Monday at seven) made us decide never to come back. The food, pizza margherita, tortelloni and risotto alla marinara, was served cold, and tasted horribly. The head vaitor was unpolite and more eager to please Italian guests than to give us proper service. We waited for half an hour for the bill, but we finally had to make the staff notice that we were leaving the resturants, to make them taking notice of us.

No sé si soy objetiva, porque para mi, que estaba sola en Londres en invierno, Il Fornello fue un refugio de comida "como en casa": mucho de italiano y algo de español, con dueños y meseros españoles, italianos, cubanos, rusos... Como soy argentina, eso le daba un "toque familiar" a mis noches solitarias y frías... y cansadas de curry. El ambiente es acogedor y relajado, pero no esperen encontrar diseño ni minimalismo: Il Fornello es un restaurant como los de antes. La comida deliciosa, en su mayor parte traida de Italia. Londres no es económico y el restaurant apenas es "justo" con sus precios: ni excesivos, ni para esperar una ganga. La atención muy europea: amable. Un lugar para recomendar, al menos cuando lo visité.

Sin duda lo mejor la ubicación si vas con niños, en pleno centro de Valencia, en una calle peatonal con un parque infantil en la misma puerta, recomiendo reservar en la terraza, con estufas de gas y pegado al parque. Muy buena atención por parte de los camareros y buena comida, tal vez un poco caro para ser un italiano, pero la atención recibida y la calidad de lo comida fue más que correcta. Fuimos 3 matrimonios con niños. Un acierto de lugar.

Guess because it's in a tourist area that it survives because of the ever changing clientele. I can't believe it has any regular customers because of the staff's poor attitude and the mediocre food. Never again! I should have read other reviews first

Do not eat here. Owners are inconsiderate of neighbours. Awful people encouraged rabble outside at 3am. And the food is disgusting. Avoid.

Llegamos aquí en busca de un bocado rápido antes de la hora de cierre, la camarera nos hizo saber que se estaban cerrando, pero se ofreció gentilmente a que nos sentáramos una vez que le hicimos saber que buscábamos ser rápidos, no para una comida larga y prolongada. El servicio fue rápido y amable, la camarera realmente era encantador! ¡Los alimentos! ! Tuvimos tres comidas diferentes, canelones, tortalloni alle creme y ñoquis! Los tres fueron perfectos! Este fue un pequeño gran descubrimiento con comida, vino y servicio increíble! Recomiendo encarecidamente si estás en la zona!

The restaurant was one of my favourites. Tonight it was truly awful. The service was slow. The meal was ruined by waiting over an hour for our main course. I ordered sole and they waited till I had eaten my starter before they told me it had run out. Awful slow and sloppy service. End of an era and I will never come back. I would suggest avoiding this place as we could hear several other tables complaining.

Visited late on a Sunday evening. Short staffed. Menu limited. House white wine awful. Food was basic and not well presented. All in all a very average experience.

We stopped in for a late lunch. The bruschetta was very nice. The lasagna came out & was boiling around the edges, but was not hot inside. We sent the lasagna back for more heating. Second time around it was hot & tasty. The lasagna was enormous, we could have shared one! The service was attentive.

Dined here as a group of 6 on a weekday evening. The place was almost empty which never inspires that much confidence, though it usually means you will get served quickly and will be catered for pretty well. Not really the case in this place.

Been gong here whilst on visits to Bloomsbury for years and never disappointed. Front of house manager very welcoming and friendly. Good food, nicely served at reasonable prices. Huge helpings of traditional well cooked Italian food mean choose carefully if on a diet.

Typisch Italiaans restaurant. Met een eigenaar uit Napels en ook een kok uit Italië. Krijg je hier echt pasta of pizza zoals je in Italië ook krijgt. Leuke sfeer, aardige staf.

因为爸妈想吃意大利餐，就来到酒店附近的这家店。妈妈吃到一半看到邻桌老外点的意大利细面很诱人，加点了一份，端上来后，小小一盘，妈妈说面比邻桌老外的面少了很多。买单时，发现擅自在账单上加了10%的小费！我问服务员，这小费10%是规定的吗，为什么我没有在菜单上看到？他立马说，这是随便你的。基于因人而异的菜量、全程无笑脸的服务及擅自加10%小费让我很不爽，我拒绝付小费。离店时，服务员给了我全程唯一且无比灿烂的笑脸。

Aunque la entrada frontal pequeño y excesivamente decorado del restaurante no parece muy prometedor, la calidad de la comida y la amabilidad de los camareros es excelente. Fui al restaurante con mi novia. Mi Saltimbocca alla romana era excelente y mis amigas espaguetis a la boloñesa donde sorprendentemente buena, ya que el plato es una opción muy estándar y bastante aburrida. Durante nuestra visita, los camareros eran siempre muy educado y el típico hombre que uno puede esperar en un restaurante italiano. Los precios de la comida no es barata, pero razonable y justificada por la calidad que se obtiene. Recomiendo el restaurante a todo el mundo que quiera disfrutar de una noche agradable con la familia, amigos o incluso una relación romántica. Espero volver a Il Fornello en mi próximo viaje a Londres.

Booked restaurant for convenience and the choice and price on website. The price shown on website for the wine bore no resemblance to what we were charged. Also food prices differed...food just OK Won’t return

La comida genial un gran servicio. Sí, es caro, pero no nos importa para una buena comida. Nos fuimos para pan garluc bith expectibg una gran ine pero era 3 rebanadas vetween nosotros mi marido tenía carne tuve ternera. Nuestra verduras no era poco no había problema en resolver el problema. El tiramusu el mejor que hemos tenido en mucho tiempo. Sin duda volveremos en nuestro próximo viaje.

Fui con tres amigos cada uno tenía un entrante y un plato principal. Comida típica italiana está bien cocinada, pero las entradas son caras. Menú variado s hay algo para todo el mundo, desde pizza, pescado, carne de aves de corral que. La ternera a la milanesa era muy bueno. Las bebidas eran muy por encima, pero cuando llegó la factura que salio menos de £40, 00 s cabeza con servicio que para el centro de Londres no estaba nada mal.

Típico restaurante italiano, se come bien y el.precio normal, sobre 20£. Atención en varios idiomas.

Nuestra primera opción de restaurante no estaba abierto, así que elegimos fue Il Fornello como cerca y abierto en la mitad de la tarde que visitamos. El menú era variado y la comida llegó rápidamente y era ideal para una opción de almuerzo tarde. El proyecto de ley tenía un cargo por servicio considerable y lo convirtió en una cara visita.

Prompt service, but don't why they served the starter with the main (the restaurant wasn't busy, so it wasn't as though they needed the table). Only the 'a la carte' menu was offered. The main spaghetti course was tasty, but unable to taste the garlic in the 'garlic bread and cheese' starter. When the bill arrived, they had added 12.5% service (no mention of this on their website). Paid and left.

Un grupo de 6 de nosotros entramos sin reserva en la víspera de Año Nuevo a las 6:30 y nos acomodaron enseguida. El personal era muy amable y nos hizo sentir bienvenidos. La comida era increíble. Lo recomiendo.

Il Fornello is Italian in name only. I would consider their cooking to be typically English. I had a Pizza Napoletana which was thick as the type of pan pizza they make at Pizza Hut. In order to digest it, I ordered an amaro which was minuscule. When I mentioned it to the waiter, he claimed UK law regulates the size of drinks. He also ranted about how he once had become drunk in Italy because drinks there are (too) large. If you want to sample authentic Italian cooking, avoid this place at all costs.

Small portions of food in a homely restaurant. By request the food was adopted to a non-spicy diet. Service was friendly.

Mi esposa y yo usamos para comer aquí hace más de 30 años como una pareja joven el cortejo así que después de ver un espectáculo del West end, decidimos dar un paseo para venir aquí y no sólo una comida, pero tome un viaje por el carril de la memoria. El menú es muy similar a lo que recordamos, Il Fornello ha mantenido con tradición y tiene la mayoría de los platos italianos clásicos no ven más. Ambos tuvimos el Scampi provenzal con vino Corvo bianco seguido de Crema de caramelo (favoritos largo perdido). Ambos disfrutamos mucho, la comida estaba muy buena y nuestro camarero era muy agradable. Este es un restaurante italiano tradicional emoción pero bien hecho, con buena comida y servicio. Gran cena para terminar un día estupendo.

It is a normal restaurant.Italian,,has pasta,, pizza, also meat and desserts, and salads.Not expensive,, it was near my hotel so for me it was convenient.

Came here at lunch time and the staff were really nice, food came quick and was very tasty.

Went to Holborn with my family and we went to the ll Fornello Italian Restaurant,we was pleased with the service and with the staff they looked after us as soon as we walked in.The starters and main meal was excellent,we would definitely be going back as everything was excellent.

The worst experience was the food that was pre-ordered at one and the same restaurant for our evening meals. It was by far the worst and disgusting food I tasted. It was a real bottom button as you chose what you thought by good recommendations. But that definitely can not be recommended to anyone. Take your Gordon Ramsey or lay down!

Cucina surgelata altro che italiana. Abbiamo mangiato in 4 la pizza e siamo stati profondamente delusi sia da essa cbe dall'acqua (probabilmente proveniente dal rubinetto). Esperienza penosa posto da evitare anche se state morendo di fame.

Entrati solo perché conquistati dal gentile invito ricevuto all'ingresso. La gestione credo sia stata italiana solo all'inizio ma il cuoco si è impegnato a preparare 4 piatti diversi che sono arrivati in 4 tempi diversi. Pietanze buone e gustose solo penalizzate dai tempi. Nel complesso bene essendo lontano dai prati di casa. Espresso finale, come a casa!

While our daughter was having surgery, to take out minds off it and that we'd mostly spent the day at the hospital and were famished we looked for a local restaurant for something to eat early afternoon (5ish). This Italian place looked ideal so my wife and I popped in. We explained to the waiter that we were in a bit of a rush and were keen to eat as quickly as possible. I selected a crab Ravioli from the chalk board and my wife ordered a vegetarian pasta dish. The food came in a reasonable time and it was adequate. We were a bit surprised that the dishes were ravioli awash with cream. The ravioli itself was nice but the amount of cream as a sauce was overpowering. The crab ravioli would have been better is the cream sauce had contained tomato and possibly basil it would have complimented the crab a lot better. As it was we were hungry in a rush and it filled a hole and some time before we went back to the hospital. Maybe it was the time of day and that we said we were in a rush they tried to be accommodating by getting something hot out. Wasn't that impressed but it had the potential to be a lot better.

This is an attractive little restaurant in Bloomsbury that I have intended to visit for some time and got round to today. I was not disappointed. Our scallopini were authentically Italian and tasted very nice as did the house red. Service was welcoming and prompt.

We had a dinner me and my wife and the food was absolutely amazing and delicious.Staff was nice , they have a lot of different drinks and the menus was full with a lot of choices .

I was looking for a takeaway pizza. I went in as it was quiet, ordered a 12" spicy meat pizza and a can of Coke. The service was quick. The pizza was average, but was small probably only 9" of the box filled! And for being a spicy pizza it wasn't. It was also very expensive for a can of warm Coke at £2.50 and the Pizza being £12.

Dreadful food and waiting staff not much better. Had a groupon voucher, gave the number ahead on booking via phone which meant that when we arrived the app showed the voucher status as 'suspended' and the waiting staff said they had no knowledge of the number. We had to pay full price for inedible food and kept being offered a glass of wine at £9.95! Will not be going back Groupon or otherwise and can only say DO NO GO!!!!

Stumbled across this place by accident and was glad we did. It looks like an old school Italian family restaurant and has a proper pizza oven. It serves cocktails as well as wines beers etc. There's classic Italian pasta dishes and pizzas too. It's reasonably priced and a good find in this part of town.

You can get a reasonable value meal here but need to watch out for extras. We had enjoyable pizzas and a good spaghetti bolognaise but it is the drinks and desserts that push up the price. Our grandson had a glass of coke which cost £3.75 and we had a bottle of mineral water costing £4.75. A scoop of ice cream was £3.00. On top of that the restaurant added on a 10% service charge. All that and the waiter did not remember part of our order until we had nearly finished our meal so we refused.

Vi var fire kamerater som stakk innom for å spise middag. Veldig hyggelig og imøtekommende betjening! Maten kom raskt og var veldig god! Autentisk italiensk! Betjeningen har gode kunnskaper med tanke på vin og vinanbefalinger til maten. Supert sted, mitt faste stoppested i London!

How can someone ruin Italian food? I thought this was impossible until we ate here in this dark, narrow space. The so-called eggplant parmesan arrived swimming in what looked like a can of tomato sauce, with squiggles of cheese floating around in it. The cheese was partially melted but not enough to provide a nice cheese crust. The artichoke-peppers lukewarm pizza arrived with bits of what looked like frozen broccoli and unchopped olives (straight out of the can). When we asked about the artichokes & other veggies, the pizza was taken away & returned w/ bits of rocket on the top. We were very tempted to leave, but it was already late. Too bad - having already passed on what we thought we be poor fare at a few nearby chains. Don't go here! I would recommend the excellent food at Old Amalfi across the street.

Restaurant à l'ambiance italienne, plutôt calme et un personnel accueillant. Les pizzas n'ont par contre rien d'exceptionnel, très moyennes et qui ne nous ont pas donné envie de revenir.

Comida muito boa, muito bom restaurante Italiano, mas o senhor que nos recebeu não explica grande coisa não propõe nada a beber, não propõe sobremesa, nem café. Não é muito simpático

Four of us enjoyed a great value Italian Meal, plenty of choice on the extensive menu. The veal scappone was fabulous. Cost £30.00 per head including drinks for two courses. Will definitely return

This restaurant in opposite the Bedford hotel where we stay when visiting London. The staff are friendly, helpful and great fun (being Italian) The food on the varied menu is always of a high standard reasonably priced and sufficient to satisfy most appetites. We arrived very late one evening and it was no trouble to serve us.

I've been going tp Il Fornello since the 80s. I'm always amazed it's still there, surrounded by newer chain restaurants and places that are desperate to be hip.Fornellos is an old-fashioned (in a good way), family run Italian restaurant. The food is great and the people are lovely. It's not breaking any new ground, but sometimes all you want is something comforting and delicious. Long may it continue.

Don't visit here! Three of us shoehorned into a fixed seat table fit for possibly two slightly built midgets. Our Waiter had a personal hygiene issue which we found unpleasant, drinks failed to come up all at once so had to request them for a second time. One meal we ordered not available, a simple cannelloni, supposed to be an Italian restaurant!The Pizza I ordered was as thin as a riizla and supposed to be spicy but no sign of any chillis. The Lasagna we ordered had a strong resemblance in taste to that of a well known tinned variety of spaghetti bolognaise.£19-00 for two medium white wines, and all this for the princely sum of £89 wth a 10 percent gratuity imposed on the bill, daylight robbery!Oh and don't visit the gents toilets unless you can dislocate the shoulders and hips in order to gain entry.Very, very disappointed, won't be going back.
