I do not understand the negative reviews for this lovely eatery. The food was truly exceptional. It was clearly lovingly prepared and quite frankly, my pizza was the best I’ve ever tasted. The server was attentive and friendly. This is the sort of place we should all be patronising during this Covid pandemic. They are desperately in need of our custom and the food is well worth your visit.

My husband and I wanted a meal that wasn’t through a chained restaurant. We found Il Borgo on the off chance and it was the best find we’ve ever made! The staff were so welcoming and the food was put of this world. The pizza was absolutely delicious and no doubt the best I’ve ever tasted. Slightly annoyed with myself for not ordering something different from the menu and trying a different Italian dish. Would certainly come back when I’m next in London!!

Estábamos comiendo antes de irnos al Royal Albert Hall, a solo 10 minutos en autocar, ideal para esa comida antes de la cena. La comida estaba caliente, sabrosa y justo lo que pedimos antes del espectáculo. Los precios son razonables para la ubicación y el servicio nos vio salir a tiempo para ver el espectáculo.

Fomos ao restaurante Il Borgo em Londres e comemos um risoto muito gostoso, o couvert são pãezinhos com alho deliciosos. Os funcionários são muito atenciosos. A localização é ótima, após o jantar fomos andando para o Royal Albert Hall assitir o Circo de Soleil. Voltaremos com certeza !

I am Italian and this restaurant is a joke. Restaurant is tired as the staff and the food they serve. And the worse part...?the guy brought the bill written by hand as the till was not working!!I've been working in hospitality for 20 years,if the till is not working you use manual check!!!not just a piece of paper!!Avoid if you can

Food was nothing out of the ordinary and neither was the service. A smile goes a long way in my opinion. House wine best ignored, not good at all, go for a bottle instead. We found better value for our money elsewhere.

Mi familia y mi amigo planearon ir a Damario, pero estaba cerrado y llegamos a Borgo el 30 de diciembre. El restaurante estaba vacío.Pedimos comida pero el personal no estaba de buen humor!La comida no era tan buena, y una pequeña porción por el precio.Gastamos 100 por 4 platos y 2 cervezas y 2 colas de coca.¡Definitivamente no valió la pena!

Wanted to go next door but was shut. First time here. Friendly waiter. Sat out back. Felt quite closed in but decor very thematic for an Italian restaurant. My daughter ordered a gluten free pizza which I shared with her. Was ok but not sure about the base. My wife and other daughter shared a pesto pasta and salad. They thought was average. We also ordered a bowl of fries (don’t ask) that never turned up. Chef was washing dishes at front of restaurant when I was paying. He apologized - “was very busy sir”. Don’t think I will hurry back

I have been going to Il Borgo for about 7 years now. They always remember me and they know what I like. Their veal piccata and veal marsala are tremendous. The cook comes out to see whether everything is satisfactory too. It is small and intimate. Very good service.

Da Mario (next door) was packed, this place was empty, and there is a good reason for that. I ordered the "funghi trifoliati" (sautéed mushrooms) and instead got a plate of mushrooms swimming in MSG or something similar. I set it aside. "You don't want this?" asked the waiter? He shrugged and took it away. My main course was a pizza "capricciosa" which really tasted of nothing at all. Just a soggy pizza base. I thought about this afterwards - I think they just forgot to add any garlic, herbs, salt & pepper, seasoning of any kind. Whatever. I set it aside and asked for the bill. It must be quite usual for diners to refuse both courses as the waiter didn't even bother to ask why I hadn't eaten it. 45 British pounds, including wine. Stay away.

Walked in on a Saturday night with a friend. Greeted warmly by the waitor who served us throughout and was friendly and attentive. Food was good and we loved the atmosphere and decor. Would definitely go back if I was in the area.

Two of ate here last night, the food was tasty, hot. Started with the freshest bruchetta ever, and the fungi trifolati, both really tasty. Followed by nettuno pizza, hot, tasty, and we'll present. Also has the spaghetti Al Tonno, again fresh, hot and amazing taste. Washed down with a bottle of pinot, all delivered with great service. Pleasant start to a visit to the Royal Albert Hall. Would recommend a visit.

Food wasn’t awful, nice quaint restaurant but the service is shockingly slow. 2 hours we were there, we were a party of two and we only had main each!

We went to this place because the Italian restaurant next door was full with a queue outside. We were a party of two and a baby so upon entering we were greeted with "we do not have highchairs" not even a good evening! The place was smokey although it was not full- seems like the extraction system in the kitchen was not functioning properly. We have ordered pizzas. The pizza bases are definitely the cheap frozen type you buy from supermarkets- nothing that resembles a pizza base crafted and hand-worked as expected in an Italian pizzeria. My partner ordered a pizza with a rucola (rocket leaves) topping. Instead, she had a salad mix on top which included baby spinach and lettuce!!

Just a lovely evening with my friend. Beautiful food. Gentle atmosphere & music. Such a great place. We will be back!

I have no idea how this restaurant is allowed to trade. Firstly the service was slow and rude. One waiter serving the entire restaurant. And then the food... we ordered a pizza and the gnocchi. Both dishes tasted like they were shop-bought. Almost every oven pizza has tasted better than this one! The gnocchi was disgusting - sauce was re-heated, and didn't taste fresh.

There is no other way to title this review. The meatballs had a most peculiar taste, even through the over cooked and almost burnt shell. The pasta they sat on had a non-discript script source. My wife’s spicy tomato Pasta had just enough spice to obscure the flavour. The house white wine, was best described as bland.

I've been here several times, and would come back again.

The food and atmosphere were so pleasant. It was a nice quiet place to have a glass of wine and some good fresh food!

Food cooked from a Sainsbury's frozen ready meal (the staff carried in 5x Sainsbury's bags while we were sat at the table), and wine that costs £5 online charged out at £18 per bottle. Not quite what we were looking for on Gloucester Road...

Horrendous. Numerous clues: it was empty on a Saturday night. Advertised air conditioning but there was none. Veal on the menu but they didn’t have any. Tells me the appetizer only serves one person. I ordered lasagna and I know the taste of frozen boxed lasagna because I’ve eaten my share of it. It was staufers frozen lasagna placed on a fancy plate. My wife ordered penne and hardly ate any of it.

Hace poco fui con ella a mi familia para celebrar mi cumpleaños antes de ir a Chelsea Flower Show, era un maravilloso restaurante tradicional, y el viernes por la noche estaba plagado de familias y gente de negocios. Tengo las chuletas de cordero que venían con muchas verduras acompañantes encantadoras junto con papas fritas. Mi hija tenía el salmón en salsa de brandy que, aunque suena extraño, en realidad era encantadora. Hubbie tenía una carbonara especialmente hecha donde reemplazaron el tocino con pollo, lo cual no fue un problema para ellos. El vino estaba bien y era un lugar agradable y sin pretensiones. Muy agradable.

Today was my mum birthday one of my friends Recommended ilborgo restaurant we booked a table for group of 15 people and we ordered different dishes from starters and main dishes like pasta,pizza,fish and chicken and the food was awesome and delicious absolutely beautiful everything was 100% and very one was happy with the food especially my mum and the atmosphere and music and the service was awesome and I am really recommend this restaurant for any one wanted very nice and delicious food

Je suis venu deux soir de suite et tout ce que j'ai commandé été excellent par contre ce n'est pas un bas de game en goût et donc en prix je reconnais mais ça vaut le détour sauf si on veut manger pour pas chère mais la qualité est là si l'on apprécie la cuisine italienne et le tiramisu est une tuerie du moins de mon avis.

Very poor pizza quality. My 5 years old could have done a better job at making it. Dough was odd (a bit too dense) and pizza was very greasy for some reason. Good location but that is about it.

Di italiano ci sono solo le immagini pacchiane riportate nelle pareti del locale: personale inglese e che tratta non troppo bene gli italiani, locale stretto e cibo di media qualità, anche se ho mangiato pizze peggiori.

Food was ok but the restaurant was let down by the atmosphere and service by the waiting staff. Also disappointing that we were charged for the olives, water and bread that were brought to the table without us asking, The waiter was rude and although the food was tasty we were disappointed that we were charged a service charge!!! Not very Italian and they played the same cd over and over again which we were sure was the soundtrack from the godfather films. We were hoping for a nice atmosphere but quite frankly would have had a nicer night in a restaurant chain. We would not return or recommend anyone going there.

We had a very hot and tasty risotto and Pizza. found everything very clean and waiter very helpful after going next door where we originally booked a table was full and they had given out our table as 10 minutes late due to traffic. Ambiance was charming and authentic, the service was outstanding, but the FOOD..... the best Italian food that my family ever tasted! the Spaghetti Bolognese was so delicious, that we went back for a second time in 5 nights!! Absolutely a gem in a city full of wonderful restaurants!!

We have visited this restaurant at least once a year for 8 years for a meal before attending a prom concert. Until last year the food, service and ambience had been excellent. Last year there was a change of staff and the service was not quite as good.

The restaurant is cozy and clean. Quick service and friendly staff. Food is delicious. Infact the best margherita pizza we had in this neighborhood. We will definitely revisit next time when in London.

We were surprised at some of the negative comments on here regarding Il Borgo. Restaurant is cosy, clean and authentic. We were greeted with complimentary water and assortment of breads as an appetizer. Food was overall very nice and was served in good time. Only suggestion for improvement would be to maybe restyle the front of the restaurant. With so much competition from next door, we felt they could have played on this more with a more stylish front window and reception area to draw people in. For two mains and alcoholic drinks we paid approx £35 for a dinner for two which we thought was great value

Shocked to see prior reviews of poor service and bad value. We stumbled upon this restaurant for a pre-Royal Albert Hall show, and were delighted. It is small, quaint and welcoming, and very relaxing. Also a real "Venetian" feel. The service was good and food delivered within a reasonable time. Both my wife and my food was well presented and really delicious. Cost was £43 which included two alcoholic drinks each. I thought it was great value for the location. Would definitely recommend this restaurant to others.

Casi personal arrogante desinteresado. Probablemente la peor pizza que he probado en mi vida. Bitter, amargo, y así carece de sabor que me preguntaba si podría haber posiblemente sido preparada por un chef entrenado? Mi tomate alad' era una media de tomate en rodajas con la mitad de una hoja de albahaca y un par de rodajas de cebolla cruda. ¿Cómo puede un plato de ensalada de tomate consisten de media? La salsa de tomate en mi pizza (que era tan mínimo que te han sido difícil arañar 1 / 4 de una cucharilla de) sabían de nada! ¿Cómo puede no sabor tomates italianos? Eso es verdaderamente un arte!

A good place for a simple casual pasta with a glass of the house red. Prefer the lighter, tomato based sauces to the creamy ones. spaghetti caprese with tuna and olives is my favourite so far.

Came to this restaurant for dinner with a group of 5, staff member was very rude to us and would not let us come in for dinner as 2 of our group members were 'alternative' looking (because they have dreadlocks). very disappointing, cannot believe it. Staff members excuse was that they had a another group coming, which was not true as half the restaurant was empty.

Top line: 45 mins for wine and starter order, further 30 mins until starter came out . Mains came out 15 mins after stater (ok). Very tired by end of meal and cooking while adequate (not amazing) did not make up for length of service. The night I attended (Tuesday) the restaurant was very busy. It is clearly a popular local choice and indeed was recommended by members of our group. Sadly there seemed to be only one very overworked waiter who while polite and competent was clearly struggling. Having worked in the service industry myself I did feel sorry for him. Food was ok, but for £30+ per head with starter, I have had much better for less.

Our family ate a yummy dinner here in our travels from the states. They accommodated our large party (5 adults and 2 kids). The food was excellent, the staff was friendly, and the price was fair. The beautiful paintings on the wall added to the ambiance.

After a day of tours, we wanted a meal without a lot of waiting. Fancier Italian restaurant next door had a 45 minute wait, so we gave this place a try and they didn't disappoint.It is not impressive from the outside at all and the amount of available seating is surprising, even for large groups.They brought out plentiful quantities of complimentary marinated olives and 2 kinds of bread, and brought us all tap water with ice and a full pitcher for refills without us even having to ask.We had 3 different pizzas, all served piping hot with very thin crust. My wife's lasagna was exceptional. My daughter's ravioli was probably the weakest dish.Desserts were limited (tiramisu or ice cream ). We didn't have any wine so I can't comment on their selections.Have I had better Italian food? Absolutely. But this was quite good, the servers were friendly, and the prices were very fair.

Negli ultimi 52 anni non mi è mai capitato di andare in un ristorante dove è terminata l'acqua naturale ... a parte la musica di italiano non c'è molto ... cucina scadente ... lo consigliamo solo per sopravvivenza

A mixed bag really. We had pre-booked so as to have time for a meal before a concert at the Albert Hall. Got there a bit early to find it all closed ( should have been open according to website).As there are loads of places nearby we didn't think we would bother. However because we had booked we thought we better just see if it was open a few minutes later. On walking back -it was open. Went in. No booking. However they had tables and we were on a time constraint.It's very dated inside. Plastic plants and garish painting. But we had seen very similar on a recent trip to Florence!!!My pizza was fine and so was my husband's ravioli. House red and white both ok.While we were there it certainly filled up. Given the large number of restaurants in that area, I'm not sure I would go here next time. But our meal was perfectly Ok

This place seems to be designed to cater to tourists and other people who are unlikely to visit more than once so it doesn't bother to try hard to please. The food and wine OK but not delightful and the service is offhand at best. Fortunately there are plenty of other restaurants in Gloucester Road.

Great traditional Italian Menu. Nice wines. Very attentive and responsive service. Right in te middle of a very touristy area. Good for dinner before going to the Royal Albert Hall and also close to the Museums. A fun place

Für 3 trockene, geschmacklose Pizzen (keine Tomatensouce – und obwohl mehrmals nachgesalzen noch immer nach nichts geschmeckt) und ein ebenso nach nichts schmeckendes Risotto mit Garnelen, eine Flasche Pino Grigio und 1 Flasche Wasser zahlten wir über 100 Euro! Jede Fertigpizza aus dem Supermarkt ist besser als was dort geboten wird.

I couldn't get a table at Marios and really fancied Italian so went here.The staff did nothing but argue with each other. The guy bossing the girl around. They forgot my drink, I had to ask for it. I ordered Hawaiian Pizza. The pizza was sloppy and tastless. Cheap ingredients I suspect. I also ordered a portion of "house fries" expecting them to homemade delicious fries. They were out of the freezer and cooked in oil that tasted like it hadnt been changed in a while. It wasnt so much the food that I was disappointed with but the way the staff spoke to each other and were arguing topped it off.Wouldn't recommend.

Sad to see some mixed reviews here. We enjoyed our meals - and so much so we will be back before we leave LondonThe service was efficient and friendly - food was tasty and hot - plenty of garlic too which was refreshing for Italian food outside of Italy these days If you are in the vicinity of Il Borgo we recommend it.....

Originally going to Da Mario but it was closed, It seemed it wouldn't hurt to go to Il Borgo, just next door. To sum up: disappointing. The place doesn't seem clean and the food is, as the title says, below the average. Wouldn't go there again.

Ambience...4/5 - Il Borgo has created a little Italy inside their space with lovely art work and lovely greenery.Food...4/5 - we each had a salad and a main, the caprese salad and the insalata pomodoro were both fresh and light - a perfect time start. My pasta carbonara and my friend's chicken with pasta were delicious and flavourful. No complaints from a native Italian.Service...3.5/5 - a little slow and sporadic; but very caring; olives and bread were a nice surprise. Wine...4/5Dessert...N/A - they were out of the tiramisu which was what we wanted, so I can't comment on dessert. Overall a lovely evening and I would come back for seconds :)

Within seconds of sitting down and being given a menu we were asked if we were ready to order. Felt rather harassed as we were asked at least four times if we were ready before we had actually chosen what we wanted to eat. I asked for a glass of house red which was pretty good for a house wine and my husband ordered a peroni. A dish of olives and two types of bread arrived which we thought were complimentary, but there was actually a charge of £1.00. My meal of rump steak with a cream and mushroom sauce, wilted spinach and roast potatoes was very tasty but the steak was rather chewy. My husband had pasta with chicken in a cream sauce which was very good. Desserts were vanilla ice cream and a dark chocolate/orange cake both of which were good. We finished with a latte and mocha.

Called in on spec on a Saturday evening, restaurant quiet but, gave it a go. Service attentive without being pushy, I had a calzone which was really nice, wife had Scaloppine al Marsala with cauliflower cheese which was the temperature of the core of the sun! Well presented, really tasty

We had a very nice waitress serving us who is a student in UK. She is lovely.The food quality is average especially with the Veal, not much meat taste at all.Pasta is also tasted nothing better than average.

Terrible dinner:- Waited 30' for the wrong pizza. The waiters didn't seem to know the difference between a pizza with chicken and bacon and a Napolitana...- When the right one arrived (only 7' later to their credit), it was bland.- Overpriced with respect to the quality of the products. - Charged us for a couple of olives we never asked. Argued with a smirk that we should have rejected it although they didn't mention it would be charged.Cheap products, cheap staff, fake atmosphere.

I try and give positive followed by negative but for this restaurant I struggle.Does London mean ,tolerate poor quality food ,lack of dessert in an empty restaurant where clearly everyone wants to go home at 7-15?I had penne al salmone something in this dish was still being microwaved when it came to the table! When we asked for dessert we were told " no desserts tonight"How dissapointing
