IKEA Restaurant in Cardiff

The cafe is dirty and grubby , tables chairs all need a good clean A guy wiping the tables and dropping rubbish as he’s walking around in a daze !!

Very busy but que went down quick, food was okay but prices gone up, just felt really rushed ordering food and paying for it

Spacious dining area with very good reasonable priced food. Worth using if shopping at IKEA.

Poor quality food with no hash browns today. The substitute potato 'thing' could not even be cut with a knife. Unfriendly and grumpy staff serving and a long queue at tge cafe til meaning the breakfast got cold during tge long wait. What a shame!

Ikea breakfast was OK but this is what I had instead of hash brown, some thin looking pitta bread thing.

Good foods but be careful of the cutlery some of it's dirty

Ok food, the chips were tepid and soggy. Cafeteria service, so not much to comment about. Very busy. Great for families but quite difficult to negotiate the aisles with buggies and trolleys everywhere.

I've visited the IKEA Restaurant on a few occasions but have never actually bought anything to eat here. Instead, I have taken advantage of the IKEA Family hot drink offers. As an IKEA Family card holder, you can get a free filter coffee (with free refills) in the week (Monday to Friday). The other hot drinks they sell, including cappuccinos and hot chocolates are also offered at a significantly cheaper rate of 50p per drink for IKEA Family card holders. The drinks are made at self-service machines so are not as nice as ones you'd get from a proper coffee shop but as a free or very cheap pit stop while shopping they are worth it. I've visited the restaurant at a few different times of day and on different days of the week (but not on weekends) and have always found it busy, even outside of the main meal times. However, I have always been able to find a table and have not had to wait too long in the queues. The tables I've sat at have always been very clean (but I wouldn't sit at a dirty one anyway). Although there are staff cleaning tables you are expected to take your tray with any mugs and plates etc to a central point so the table is clear for the next person. The staff I've spoken to have always been very friendly and helpful. I strongly recommend visitors sign up for the IKEA Family and download the IKEA app on their phones to take advantage of the free/cheap hot drinks on weekdays.

The restaurant was clean. A member of staff was constantly tidying the trays away and cleaning tables, which was good to see. There wasn't a great selection of food when we visited but there was something for us all.

Great quality. Great service. Generous portion. And amazing value for money.

Great products and lovely food at the restaurant.

No hot food available and no effort made to make sandwiches or salads ect. Staff didn't seem to care for the customer. All was being served was cold bacon or cold sausage rolls and hot tea, coffee or soft drink

This place is HUGE! I could have spent all day there..perhaps I will soon. So much stuff you're spoilt 4 choice. Visit b4 Xmas...you're bound to grab a bargain or two.😊

Cafe was extremely dirty, drinks machines were all empty buttons missing, tables were disgusting, limited choice of food as they had run out of everything. Snack bar looked like something out of a horror movie, it was awful worse than the main restaurant . The toilets were stinking, this IKEA is in dire need of a spruce up really shocked how bad it was we have been coming here for over 10 years and have just watched it degrade. We certainly won't be eating here again

Lovely to sit in a comfy seat and enjoy the coffee

Long queues. Dirty plates and cutlery left on tables, tablets are never cleaned. The restaurant floor had almost no cleaned tables to use, although the restaurant was not busy. Misleading pricing regarding offers and IKEA Family discounts. When asked for the manager, to discuss losing out on membership discount after being held in a queue for 40 min, the manager could not be found. The place is evidently understaffed, and the few people of staff are overworked, the kitchen had only two people to cook and serve. Customers were held up in a queue, while IKEA staff was getting served. Most missed out on the discount and were visibly upset.

Not the best to be frank, cold food being served is never good, not very fresh.

Shocking. I expected way better on my recent vist here. I have heard so many good things about the quality of the food and just overall the choice. It was just dissapiotning to hear all about world renowned meatballs. But in the end them being bland and felt like they were soaked in oli. The veggie nuggets, were crisp and with no actaul taste. From whay i tried i personaly would say the mash potatoes but only after i put some slat and pepper in it. Once again I was just dissapionted as i though it was going to tatse way better and there would be a wider selection. Overall I wouldnt reccommed.

The food was not great..the staff were clearly uncommitted.. very little food on display and had to be requested..The vegetarian biryani was horrible..a New recipe is required..We travel the world..so far the IKEA in Sicily is the best amazing food not dried up served at it's optimum..by cheerful staff .

Fishand Chips atIkea can't gowrong

Unfortunately the quality of food has deteriorated, nothing like it used to be when there was more choice and higher standards. Now it's very bland and there's usually long queues and not enough staff. I ate there recently for the first time in ages but definitely won't be returning.

We love to come here for lunch. They are now doing specials for £3 on different dishes each day. As we are family members we get free tea or coffee. There is always plenty of spaces to sit. You are never rushed to eat your food.

A decent family like eating venue

Any food you have is always cold because the staff serve food so slowly only one person on the till to pay . Food should be paid for before collected . I had to microwave mine in the children's facilities . They need to have the screens like McDonald's. It drives me crazy every time I go there but for some crazy reason I still want coffee

The meatballs are awesome and staff are polite and helpful. Queue's are always long, but worth it in the end.

Totally disgusted with staff's attitude! After having to organise so much so I could go to the Cardiff store on Monday evening, including the severe paining I was in, and to check what I wished to purchase was in stock, after enquiring with a member of staff how i go about purchasing and actually being united with said purchase, I was well and truly shocked plus annoyed to be told, "There's a little over 20 minutes left before closing, and no one is going to help you at this time of night!", really got my back up. I was instructed I had to make my purchase online and chose a collection time, which may or may not be convenient to me and work within the tight deadline I had, then return to the store for collection! I get during the lockdown, arranging the collection of items like this, which really helped the country to continue moving on, was vital, however, seeing this has now past for a number of years, why does things remain so incredibly complicated and inflexible!

Simple and cheap North European food. The feeling there is incredibly pleasant. Everyone is tired, inspired, hungry, happy. I wanted to stay there for longer and come again. It is hard to explain.

It's good cheap food. A clean and spacious seating area.

My daughter had a small vegetarian breakfast which looked lovely. She enjoyed it. I had an almond croissant which was nice. The lunches looked good but we were a little too early . Will go again soon

Cheap and cheery for IKEA family card holders

I was known as “cheap and easy” in university. Not because I was a “public bus” for people but because it only takes me 2 pints to get drunk. Glad that name still sticks, not just for alcohol but for food as well. Easy date night in ikea with nice food plus you get the option to play hide and seek in the show room.

The 3 star rating is because the place was in a mess. Food on the floor and tables not cleaned are just two examples. Customers were not putting used items in the collection points - this did not help things (who wants to clean up someone's mess in order to get a table!). Food and drink were as expected from IKEA (good for the price). No complaints about the food.

Most probably the cheapest place to get food, but make sure to go on a Friday!!!. Obviously go for the meatballs after going downstairs and go for ice-cream

Try the signature meatballs, they focus on value for money

I have been a fan of IKEA from the time it opened. I have eaten there countless times however, I had a breakfast there recently and had food poisoning, might have killed a vulnerable person. As someone said "it only takes a dirty finger". I now realised that another nasty stomach upset I had after eating there previously was food poisoning! The young staff on Minimum wages are not too concerned it really should be overseen in the kitchen! .

Functional food at an excellent price

You can't go far wrong with the Swedish meatballs (plant based alternative is available), and the salmon (with a small pot of dill-dip) was decent too.

Great restaurant ,good drinks too

The biryani meal was absolutely sloppy, more like a risotto, with loads of tumeric, no curry flavour and the rice was mushy. I wish I could of had the meatballs instead. On the plus side, the meals are very competitively priced.

Always a fair deal at the IKEA restaurant!

Unimpressed with this restaurant. Not cheap, not good, food not hot, very, very slow service. Fish and chips was advertised as including mushy peas but they'd run out! Fast food it was not! We really, really wished we'd gone to McDonalds! We would have eaten far better and paid much less. My advice, avoid this restaurant.

Lovely food! And nice and cheap too. Was a long queue which took about 20 mins to get served but apart from that it was good.

Just what you'd expect from IKEA. Nice food for a very reasonable price. Small menu but more than adequate for adults and children. Clean tables and toilets.

Meatballs an gravy are the best thing to come out of Sweden much better than a chair

Took my Grandson had a lovely day lots to see food good for the money.

Waiting so long to pay for food it was stone cold then had to wait again to warm it up in the microwave queued again for that took ages

Recently visited the IKEA Wales restaurant for the Christmas dinner event and also a couple of times for breakfast, but living within walking distance we visit quite regularly. The food can be patchy but I am often surprised by the quality for such low prices, particularly the specials. Staff are invariably friendly and helpful. The atmosphere is that of a canteen.

The staff is friendly and helpful, the place was clean and spacious. Food is very standard like canteen food and the price is very reasonable.

Lots of meat/fish meals, sadly if you are vegetarian and want a meal you will go hungry - you advertise plant based, what a con. Let me know before I've queued for 30 minutes too.

Nice. The foood isnt bad. Just that the chips were from a fast food outlet.. But the.y need to cook quick as there were lots looking for some.

Always take a trip to the restaurant when visiting IKEA Cardiff. Food always nice, good sized portions and great value for money. Queues are normally quite long on weekends though so avoid visiting at this time if you don't like waiting 30+ mins to be served.

End of the day visited for Fikka. Tea and cake. Love the unicorn cake. 2 slices plus 2 teas just £5.90 with IKEA family card.

Cardiff ikea,,always long queues for food,,,food is never hot enough, that's always made worse by having to always queue way to long to pay on one till...by the time you finally get to sit down food is luke warm at best..service is like ( waiting for god ) attitude..

Not for me, but you can see why people stop. The curry was as dry as cement, but the meatballs and mash were nice.

By far the worst IKEA I have visited .Two counters only one open. And ques that lead back a long way to wait over 20 minutes to be served is in my eyes unacceptable. Friendly staff just a massive shame the food looked unloved and dry..

The queue was atrocious. Only 1 girl serving . Must have been at least 50 in the queue. Very poor service.

Could have more staff on the tills and more behind the counters.

Went to boot sale which was fantastic even though it was only a small one but 1st one ..Brilliant then we decided to go for a look around IKEA and have breakfast .Fantastic but a bit food cold and big queue need to get more staff behind servery But all in all it was brilliant and coffee to your hearts content .which on a positive side was made with semi skimmed milk Bonus .10 out of 10 for a lovely day out with some bargains too

So, the gimmick is here and people come in and queue for the meatballs, the gravy and the Lingenberry jam, which is marvelous. The food isn't particularly good, the atmosphere is particularly good, the staff although not unpleasant are kinda just there. Despite all this, the place is rammed and customers seem happy so all in all my review is unnecessary because the gimmick completely works. Carry on and enjoy this somewhat below par experience but those around you certainly are. Oh I almost forgot the Diam Cake now this sugary nonsense really is a delight. I'm reminded of a television commercial from the 1990's and I believe Harry Enfield played a character who consumed a Diam Bar and utterly lost his mind and proceeded to shout "Armadillo" to those around him. Having said all that, I may be completely wrong but the core of this review is the IKEA restaurant does work and I mean really does work and the people love it. IKEA you are delivering something which somehow serves the public with what they want and for that I take a bow and request a revolution. Good Day.

This has gone down hill, used to be quick and easy food. The service is awful, items are not ready and they stop the queue all the time, last two times has taken almost 30mins to get food. Won't be coming back

When we went, there was only 1 person serving on each side, there were no desserts on our side and no glasses for soft drinks available possibly due to staff shortages. Unusual for IKEA.

Typical Ikea restaurant... Stand in line to collect food and then stand in line to pay ...then stand in line to collect your coffee...

Usually very busy in any given Sunday, but 28 May very quiet. Food on floor, not cleaned up around the tables. Staff are friendly, food is acceptable. When busy, the atmosphere is a little hectic, and noisy. Lots of children usually.

Went to IKEA for lunch and had Meatballs, with garden peas and mash with gravy and a bottle of mineral water. Nice meal. £7.30 all in.

We ate in the bistro area by the tills. The food was fine as you would expect but the tables were disgusting. Bags of other people's food all over them, spilt drinks and sauce. Had to clear it all and find a spray to clean the table. Spray was next to an over flowing bin. Another patron had to do the same.

Saturday lunchtime only 1 server at each counter, only 1 till server and hardly any of the self serve cold drinks were working. Really short staffed today 😞

Love ikea food! Meatballs are always so fluffy. Staff were great, really helpful and polite. Tables could be cleaned more often, but apart from that can't fault it!

Great place to eat , super menu for all tastes , great prices with unlimited coffee and soft drinks , well worth a visit even for meeting up with friends or the shopping

Fantastic place as always, but the service crew behind the food bar could be more customer service focused. They were just monotonous and robotic asking ur food, then just dishing them on the plate carelessly. The gravy in my boy's children's meal was dripping from his dish. Love the chocolate and Daim cake 😋

Amazing restaurant and cafe, whenever going to IKEA I am always torn between going to the cafe for meatballs or the hotdog stop for hotdogs. If you are faced with the same dilemma trust me the meatballs are worth it! They give you a plentiful portion of meatballs, and you have the options of chips or mash and then peas and lingonberry jam and gravy. The meatballs are really tasty and go down incredibly easily, lots of other meal options including pies, salmon and chicken. The only reason I didn't give five stars for service was because the queue was quite long and not many staff serving, which is surprising as normally even when it's very busy you can get through within 5-10 minutes.

It's ok, decent selection but often big queues

The food was really nice and big portions. Very cheap too. The fizzy drink self service wasn't working well the last couple of times I have been. Service was excellent and the staff were lovely and really helpful. The only downside was that it is a bit grubby. I think it needs a bit of a deep clean.

Standard IKEA restaurant meal, meatballs were as normal. Was busy and lacked staff on the clearing up front as the return section where near where we sat was overflowing. No great shakes...still.had room for a hotdog and an ice-cream on the way out ,🤣

Never got to try the food as the serious attitude problem of one of the members of staff was enough to cancel my order. Absolutely shocking, if the lady hates her job that much maybe she should work elsewhere.
