Excellent new refurb; same friendly welcome and delicious Sicilian food. Tasty and different breakfast options and of course wonderful coffee. The pasta is exceptional and well worth an evening visit too.

We loved 'I love food' - so much we visited every week when in town. Always welcoming, a little chaotic but always great quality food. We keenly visited the revamped restaurant for Saturday lunch but were sadly greeted by the once so friendly manager as strangers. As if we had entered a parallel universe void of joy (and customers) So sophisticated but now oh so charmless.We ordered three pasta dishes and waited... and waited...and waited for over 1hr before finally giving up having being told the food would soon be ready...in another 15mins.Perhaps the food is still great but I doubt the wait will be worth it.

Love food has grown up to be Rossanas Sicilian kitchen - very busy and booked tables on day of visit so booking advisable May be busy as this was first weekend of opening Lavish sophisticated interior - very grown up has lost a bit of the lively cosy simple drop in feel so prob will attract diff customers as a result ? Gone are the big armchairs to slice into with a quick coffee - mix of tables / high bench seating Upstairs yet to explore - slightly quirky seeing footsteps walk over head through frost glass floor - downstairs outside space gone - now a roof terrace Menu slightly different - has grown up too Treated myself to a snatched breakfast which was superb poached egg cooked to perfection on sourdough with prosciutto hamVery buzzy as staff we’re getting used to diff type of service / layout

The newly refurbished restaurant is attractive and comfortable. The menu has a reasonably good choice of dishes and the price is not too high. The food was nicely prepared and absolutely delicious. Sadly the whole experience was slightly marred by poor service. Inexperienced staff were totally out of their depth and there were long waits and clumsy service. Such a pity as this could be a super restaurant.

Visited yesterday the staff were so helpful even though I had missed the booking time. The menu is interesting and food was beautifully presented and tasted amazing. Will definitely be back

We booked ahead for Sunday brunch. Very noisy due to tight spacing of tables and loud "background" music. We asked them to lower the music and they did... for a few minutes and then raised it again. Service was slow. Food was okay but overpriced (£8.95 for a slice of toast with scrambled egg and a bit of smoked salmon). No paper in the loo. Stacks of Christmas panettone in the front windows - and this is mid-February. Overall, we got a strong impression of a poorly-run restaurant. We won't be going back.

Walked in last night (Saturday) and they found us a table for two. Nice house red carafe, food was tasty and hot, (I can't stand it when food comes out luke warm), but this was hot and freshly cooked. I had butternut squash tagliatelle and my husband had chicken livers and mash, both equally delicious! We had a pudding each, me tiramisu, and he had the gluten free chocolate cake which was sublime. Had a good chat with the waiter about Sicily and Sicilian vases! All in all a good night and will definitely go back again. This was our second visit, our first one was probably a year ago.

we were in berko this morning shopping when we found this adorable café. where the coffee was excellent and the cakes were good the staff were helpful and pleasant all round was excellent

We were greeted by surly staff, when I say greeted I mean vaguely acknowledged, shown to a filthy table where we sat and waited and waited and waited. No attempt was made to clear the table and no menus were offered, let alone any service given. We did not see one member of staff smile while we were there. Eventually I managed to catch the eye of one of them and asked for menus-when they arrived we asked for brunch and were told we were 5 minutes too late-despite the fact that we had already been sitting there waiting for much longer than that . Anyhow we decided to leave. As we got up to go one of the staff smiled and wished me GOODBYE, -obviously pleased that they had fewer customers to serve. This took me back to the time soon after this establishment had opened when a friend and I went there for lunch. Long story short, we were served avocado which was black and brown and not at all green-we sent it back. To our surprise it reappeared a few minutes later and we were told by the waiter that it was not off, merely mature. We begged to differ - it was rotten. Guess who the guy who said a smiley goodbye to me today was ? Yes- he of the mature avocado.AVOID THIS PLACE.

First time visit and was very impressed by the entire experience.

Popped in for a light lunch. We had a chorizo panini and uovo e pepperoni. Both were tasty and filling. Wine also good Would go again. Good service

We live locally & have enjoyed Love Food for many years. We have had lots of coffee, cakes, lunches & dinners over that time.

Visited for breakfast at 10.30am. Food was great but it took 20 min until asked for order, 30 mins to bring a glass of orange juice, tea and a coffee then another 20 (total 50 mins) for order of food.

Met up with friends for breakfast on Sunday morning to celebrate my birthday. So glad we chose I ❤ Food. Food, ambiance and service were really good. Looking forward to my next visit.

Food is great here but service let’s it down. If you have to sit upstairs then you would be better off helping yourself! Had to go down to ask to order.....even though they offer table service and then had to go down twice more as they didn’t give us the jam with toast, they subsequently forgot about it again after reminding. They forgot our water and then 30 minutes after finishing breakfast it took 30 mins for them to take plates away and bring bill even though I popped down another 2 times to ask them.

Popped in for an early lunch. Had to order from the breakfast menu which wasn't a problem. Ordered the avocado on toast from an unfriendly waitress who only gave us one menu between us. Still no problem. The avocado was drenched in so much chili that it was inedible even after scraping off most of the chilies. We didn't make a fuss, but the chef came out and told us next time to order the chili on the side as we are obviously not used to spicy food. We didn't demand a refund or complain. Being nice to customers doesn't cost anything, especially the ones who doesn't make a fuss. Won't return.

Met an old friend at 11.30 had lunch and left at 15.00 and no pressure. Very nice service, just the sort of food I like at lunchtime.

Hmmmm ok so this is an Italian restaurant and whist the staff are friendly I can’t recommend the breakfast choices.

Had breakfast at I love food for my birthday and wow! it was yummy!! I would definitely go again, will try dinner next time!

I have eaten here many times, mostly breakfast and occasionally lunch or dinner. The service is always friendly, helpful and efficient. The food has always been great

What a nice restaurant. Lovely service and a really simple but lovely menu. I had garlic lamb and potato followed by cannolis. All were simple but fully flavoured. Family raved about the pork and pear dish. A really good night out.

Just been for breakfast with family and were seated upstairs where it was quiet. We were served by a new member of staff who did not know the menu at all. After asking if my meal came with bread, she said no so I ordered extra toast.

£32 for one bottle of water, one starter green salad, two cups of tea and a piece of cake. £32 without the service charge!!! Extortionate!

A party of us went out for breakfast to celebrate a birthday. It was during the hot weather in 2018 and I was impressed that the first thing they provided was cold water and ice. We all tried different dishes and not one of us was dissapionted.

I Love this place. Always top choice for good coffee & very tasty little cake. Very friendly. Been coming here for years now, since they first opened. Lovely little courtyard out the back on a sunny day.

Recommended to this and certainly the menu more varied than usual Italian. Decor is not up to much and a little noisy. Food was pretty good. I had a really good liver dish and my wife a lamb stew dish. Both very tasty. They didn't have any non alcoholic beer which today is now quite unusual. Service was good enough. Price fair. Worth a whirl.

I love I ❤️ Food and enjoyed brunch many times there. Sadly I agree with some other reviewers that the service has become slow and inattentive on occasions. The last 2 times I have been the egg dish I’ve ordered has been seasoned with far too much garlic making it taste really quite unpleasant. Also found a hair in my food. It was my favourite place for a cheeky brunch but not any more.

Visited few months ago, service was excellent. Main meals was delicious. My sort of place for desserts and a cup of tea!! Amazing presentation of the deserts and full of taste.

Popped in for a quick coffee and cake, and was so heartened by both service and produce it completely changed my mind about this place. Originally a tiny little paradise of genuine Italian food stuffs and passion it expanded beyond its capabilities and for a whole seemed to struggle.

We recently dined here with family who live locally. It was such a good experience! The food was truly scrumptious and authentic.We were served by Francesco who impressed us with his attention to detail and was super friendly and entertaining. Gorgeous desserts, too! We love I Love Food. Maybe breakfast next time...

Me and my family have visited I Love Food and we love it here every single time. Great choice of starters but we love the antipasti starter. Their Norma main dish is fantastic and the choice of wine is great and at a reasonable price. The waiters make you feel like you're part of the family and the feel of this restaurant is just so delightful and warm.

Picture the scene. Date night, Saturday. Looking forward to a nice meal, glass of wine and a good evening. We enter the restaurant and ask for a table of two. We are taken into a dark corner of the restaurant near the rear fire exit. We are seated and no mention of drinks or anything. 15 minutes pass and the waiter finally comes over and asks if we are ready to order food, no mention of drinks. Drink and food ordered at the same time. Just a bottle of beer and a gin and tonic, no fancy cocktails yet the drinks still took a further 10 minutes to arrive.

An edible but disappointing meal. Inattentive staff serving our table. An uninteresting expensive meal. It's true, there are lots of restaurants in Berko, but one needs to be selective, there are only a few that are worth the money.

We had Brunch here last Sunday. We had a version of Eggs Benedict. It was the most delicious brunch I have ever had. We can't wait to come back for an evening meal !

I have just had brunch with a girlfriend in I LOVE FOOD We started using and enjoying this buzzy restaurant from when they first opened it normally serves delicious food from cakes to regional Italian style food. BUT on several occasions recently the service has been slow and slightly surly and on occasions the food not as good as it ought to be but everyone has off days. Sadly today my friend's food was inedible, scrambled eggs with mashed avocado and chilli on bruschetta. There was way too much chilli on it which killed the flavour of everything else on the plate not too mention setting "fire" to my friends mouth. On mentioning this to the waitress she merely shrugged. When I paid the bill we mentioned it again to the "manager" who really didn't seem that interested! He made an error in the billing by only charging £2.13 instead of £21.30 when I pointed this out to him (too honest for my own good!) did he thank me NO so sorry I LOVE FOOD have lost two longstanding customers, I suspect with the attitude of staff in the restaurant today they really won't care. Such a shame!

Always enjoy visiting this restaurant. This time I had lunch with my wife and mother-in-law and we all enjoyed the occasion.

The food is really good. Everything was incredibly tasty and freshly made. The stuff were also really friendly. Would recommend!

Went there recently with my mum. She had a lasagne - no meat inside. No one asked how our meals were until too late. When we complained they did not apologise, acted very rude and didn't even offer any money off.

I have visited ‘I Love Food’ on a few occasions for lunch and it has always been excellent. The food is Sicilian - Italian, fresh ingredients and authentic.

I hardly know where to start - from the very frosty reception my friends and I received, to the very curt demand that we collapse our pushchairs... they told my friend she must carry her buggy upstairs as it wouldn’t collapse, then when we requested...

No acknowledgement on arrival, made our own way to our table. Waited 40 minutes to be acknowledged. 2 rounds of drinks - both incorrrect. Very small food portions. 2 waiters- 1 couldn't speak english, the other avoided any eye contact. Asked to speak to the...

After a previous visit of raw chicken I thought I would give it another chance. Big mistake there were 6 of us the service was awful weren't shown to table, were given no menus for 20 mins, waited 40mins for a drink, got drinks order...

What an enjoyable coffee (and a perfect brownie cheesecake too!!), We stumbled across this on a gentle stroll, it's a lovely place, comfortable with superb food and made all the more special by great service from a charming sicilian waiter! Highly recommended...

We ordered 5 meals and had to send 3 back they were cold the other 2 were just warm and the only reason they didn't get sent back was we waited so long and they was starving

We’ve eaten here with friends and on our own a few times now - we’ve been for breakfast, lunch and dinner - although not in the same day!

So disappointing! It was freezing upstairs and we had to ask for the heating to be turned on! Family breakfast pre Christmas festivities included cold tea, wrong food brough out, floppy undercooked pancetta meal sent back, soup-like porridge. Had to ask several times for more tea. Generally uninspiring! The staff were ok, maybe the chef was having an off day. Would not return.

Great venue, great service and Great Food. Popped in for some breakfast, warm welcome on arrival. Quick to get a table and place order. I had the Popeye Spinach... just screamed eat me from the menu, what better combination then rich irony spinach with rich creamy poached eggs with a hint of chilli. Well when it arrived it did not disappoint. The chef that dreamed this up should be awarded a michelin star for innovation alone the combination was delicious with a black americano. I only wish I had more time to sample the cakes on display by the till, they looked amazing as well. 100% recommended. Well done Team "I love Food"

Fabulous afternoon to celebrate a friends 80th Birthday.Lunch for 30+ people,excellent service and superb Italian Food.I have also eaten brunch and had coffee here and never disappoints.

First visit to this independent Italian restaurant and it was unbelievable. The staff were extremely friendly, seen to straight away on arrival and directed to our table while we waited for the rest of our group of 10. The menu was so different from your usual Italian restaurant, the waiter was knowledgeable and very happy to talk through dishes and make recommendations on drinks to go with the meal.The food when it arrived was totally amazing. Authentic but not the usual Italian fare.The evening was so relaxed and our group were almost the last to leave, but nobody hurried us.I will definitely be going back.

Arriving for a late lunch we decided, after a little hesitation, to sit upstairs where it was cooler and quieter . (Are there any restaurants where loud music is not played?!) The waiter upstairs was polite, helpful and knowledgeable. However after being served with soup we had a long wait for the main courses. The pasta dish with prawns was really a starter size portion, an opinion offered to a different waiter once we had returned downstairs to pay the bill but responded to by a waitress who remarked that all the pasta dishes are the same size. This seems a strange and unhelpful response. We were not asked for any further feedback or given any reassurances. We didn't feel this particular main course was good value or that the service, initial waiter excluded, was customer-friendly. The waiter at the till only stated the final cost of our food and I had to ask for the receipt. We came away with mixed feelings about this restaurant. Certain very basic expectations of a restaurant experience were not met.

Waitress (dumpy, brown hair) seething with resentment towards me as soon as I walk in and ask about the lunch menu (overpriced & pretentious). I didn’t stick around. They might love food but they don’t love people, or serving it to them.

I ordered the Insalata Pesche and Coppa which is supposed to be a Grilled Peach and Coppa Ham salad.I ws very disappointed when it arrived to look great, but on tasting the Peaches they were neither grilled or fresh I was served TINNED Peaches in Syrup on my salad.The bread that it came with was tough and hard to eat.The waiter was not aware and questioned the Kitchen who said that the Peaches were NOT in season. The menu did not State that produce was fresh when in season!My friend has a Lasagna which looked like it was microwaved and was disappointing.The waiter did try to offer a desert or Coffee but we needed to leave.

This is a Sicilian restaurant. The service & staff were very helpful. The wine & drinks were good. The food was alright but not special.They have a good range of cakes including gluten & dairy free but they were a bit dry.

We used to be frequent visitors to The Olive Tree for breakfast but they obviously no longer offer this option. So after the best part of a year we now find ourselves enjoying delicious breakfast here on occasion. Have tried most of options available- really need to try pancakes next they look to die for! Everything I have had has been delicious and very fresh. My only criticism would be the service has never been memorable- they definitely seem far more attentive to regulars and I haven't yet had happy faces. My last visit left me waiting at till for several minutes whilst the lady on till finished her chat with chef - wouldn't have minded if she could have at least acknowledged I was there!

Have been going to ILOVEFOOD since its opening - went again this Saturday with 4 friends - genuine welcome - great food and service throughout - quite a few restaurants could learn from these guys - new manager had only been there a week but already polished. You are made to feel actually welcome. Nice bit of Italy - Sicily in Berkhamsted. well done Salv and team.

Very good breakfast at this popular little restaurant in Berko. I loved the avocado on toast with a poached egg on top. With fresh orange and a coffee for 2 the bill came to £30.

I went down on a Saturday mid morning with my parents and child who is 16 months. Got seated on a table that had a reserved label on that said 10:40. It was about 10:55 and the table still had warm coffee on but the people had left. So the waiter cleared the table and we sat down. About 11:15 we were asked to move as someone had reserved the table in the window. By this point my 16 month old son was crying as he was getting hungry. They wanted to move us upstairs...with a buggy and also a very upset and hungry toddler. The staff clearly were under pressure by the family who booked the table however it wasn't handled at all well. We left in the end and got something to eat quickly in Costa. Not really a bad review for I Love Food...as we didn't really experience the food. However the people who had reserved the window table...you could clearly see my son wasn't happy...you could have easily have gone to the table upstairs. My mum also goes here several times a week. Sadly you have lost her business now.

What a great little place to eat. A great welcome from Salvo (Sicilian warmth). The breakfast muffin was excellent. It takes the English breakfast to a different place. Great flavours and great coffee.

The only real italian taste in Berkhamsted!The chefs are Italians , best italian products coming directly from the italian sun,Real italian cuisine. Buonissimo! The staff are just amazing. I have been here a number of times now and the food is always quite good. Not the best in town but not bad quality. The burgers are especially good. I have never had very good service though. The lady who served us yesterday seemed very grumpy with us and the time before it took so long for the drinks to come that we had finished our food. Service with a smile would help a lot.

My son and I visited for lunch. Service is excellent. Is very popular. Salads at £13 are delicious. Fresh orange juice £3.50. Good coffee. Parking might be an issue. You can park at the nearly Waitrose

My wife and I came here for dinner and had a wonderful meal with excellent service throughout the evening.My wife had mozerella in tomato source and I had the prawn salad, both served with very fresh ingredients My main was a spicy sausage and my wife had the stuffed pork.Since our last visit a while ago we were impressed with the reasonable cost for very authentic Italian cuisine, wine and beer.Thank you and we will definitely be coming back

We had some Italian friends on holiday over in Berko today and we were somewhat hesitant about taking them to an Italian restaurant here but needn't have worried, the staff were delightful and the food good and reasonably priced.

We often go here for breakfast and it is always first class. The lunch and dinner menus are also good. This looks more like a cafe but the food is always top restaurant quality.

Went to this place for a leaving do at a lunchtime. A lovely atmosphere inside and out. It helped that the sun was shining but the courtyard was glorious, plenty of room and a lovely seating. The menu choice was good and the food was delicious with very good portion sizes. The service was impecable and the staff very friendly and accommodating. Price wise, good for the quality of food and level of service. Will definitely have to give it a try one evening.

I regularly stop here when passing through Berkhamstead. Friendly staff and great home style food. Love the selection of nibbles at the counter and outstanding coffee. I enjoy the relaxed feeling when there and the quick & unintrusive service.

This is a lovely little place with really friendly, welcoming and knowledgeable staff. Particularly good for brunch (gets busy), coffee and cake. There's a nice light and airy upstairs space too. Would definitely recommend.

I was visiting my cousin in Berkhamsted who suggested this place for lunch. I found the service to be rather casual but friendly enough. Our meal was a very average Lasagna too much tomato not enough meat and a tiny portion but it was enough for a light lunch. I was pleasantly surprised at the cheapest wine on their menu being a Sicilian 'Nero d'Avola) as this is a good wine at any time but it was served much too warm in temperature. What a pity that restaurants - and especially those in England - tend to forget that 'room temperature' for a red wine means between 12 and 15 degrees, not over 20 degrees which this clearly was. Other than that, price was reasonable, meal was good enough. Couple of minus points though, they charged for bread which goes against the grain with me for an Italian restaurant (food is ALWAYS served free of charge with the meal in Italy so why not here?) and the restaurant was tiny so if full, would have been bordering on being claustrophobic.Luckily for us, it was a late lunch so plenty of tables available.

My wife and I ate at the I Love Food restaurant on the 6/4/17. Brief revue, food Italian very good, service prompt and curteous, the only problem we had was they brought the wrong sweet for my wife. They said they would change but would take another 15 to 20 mins as it's prepared fresh. We declined the offer because my sweet was on the table and we didn't want to wait another 15 to 20 mins, my wife ate the sweet they first brought. The waitress said the girl who took the order didn't understand what we wanted. Would we go again, yes as the food was very good.

Love Food is a well established breakfast lunch and dinner place specialising in home made fare. We visit frequently as a couple or sometimes solo for an occasional coffee and cake. Service is generally friendly and efficient, only very rarely slipping when they are super busy. Food is always wholesome, fresh cooked and tasty. I'm fond of the superfood frittata or bacon and onion marmalade sandwich. The cakes look and taste home made, that is, really good and breads are baked fresh every day. There are both cheaper and pricier coffee shops locally, but none better. Speaking personally I find the decor a bit cold and it's also now tired looking. But it's still Berkhamsted's best all round cafe.

Great food and service .... the menu range is perfect and there's something for everyone. Ingredients are clearly fresh and quality ... freshly cooked and served by a really nice team of waiters/waitresses.Highlight was the chocolate fondant ... don't miss it!

We go as a family, 3 young boys, one with a severe allergy.The food is beautiful, full of flavour.Service is leisurely, so not ideal if you are in a rush, but they are friendly and listen well.Seated us appropriately at the edge of the restaurant with the kids - friendly to the children as well as the adults

There are a lot of restaurants in Berkamsted so the wife and I chose this one at random for an early dinner. We sat outside at the back and got the last of the evening sunshine. We shared a bresaola to start, then my wife had the mixed seafood grill and I had the pork stuffed with cheese and pear. The first two were damn good but mine was simply one of the best dishes I've had in a very long time. My wife is gluten-allergic and for once she had a good choice of desserts - she went for the Santiago, made from almond flour - it was so delicious we bought some more to take home. We will definitely be going back next time we're in town.

After a lovely visit to the nearby Castle, we wandered in on Easter Monday at around noon, and were delighted with the venue, the service and the food. The venue is beautifully decorated with an intriguing Sicilian family feel, and the ambience was warm and welcoming. Our server was quick and professional. We both chose the pannini sandwiches and were highly impressed; they were well-made, the fillings cooked to perfection and full of flavour. By the time we left, the place was buzzing - clearly a local favourite. Highly recommended!

Had a really lovely lunch here last week. Both the food and the service were excellent.There was lots to choose from on the menu and we each had 3 courses plus cocktails and some delicious limoncello. We spent a long time here and the atmosphere was very relaxing. I would definitely return here again.

There are so many places like this in London! It's like a chain coffee house/bakery! There are better places to go in Berkhamsted!

Nice coffee ... but staff little off... if you speak to the little Italian man he things his better than you and why talk to him.... if you order a coffee id your taat, not his way he is rude and sarcastic ... food little to expensive ... let lots of other coffee shop far better in the Village

We have been on a number of occasions and have always had positive experiences so slightly surprised by the negative reviews. We had another super meal last night. An absolutely delicious mozzarella salad starter, good steak and a chocolate fondant to die for. An excellent selection of Italian wine and extremely helpful and friendly staff.

Visited I Love Food on Saturday night with friends. The 2 starters were OK , 3 of us ordered the grilled fish and seafood platter served with green salad for our mains . It consisted of 3 small prawns, a grilled squid, a small piece of swordfish and 3 prawn heads to make it look like there was more to this main ! For the price it was a complete rip off , the green salad was a bit of lettuce garnish on the platter . Dessert was OK . The bill came to £69 a couple , it was very poor value , would not go back again .

Something has definitely changed here. Service was really poor and food just average. Portion sizes seem to have reduced and stingy on the Parmesan. Used to be great but suspect a management change?? Won't rush back.

First time visiting this place for saturday lunch with my husband. Got half way through my lasagne when I spotted a long, dark, what looked like some sort of body hair, in my lasagne. Worst possible thing :( it was really gross and neither of us finished our food. I guess on the plus side they didn't charge me for the hairy lasagne (although they charged for my husband's meal even though he couldnt finish after seeing the curly wulry in my food). Yeah, don't think we'll be going back...

Went for a Sunday morning brunch. I asked if I could have croissant with cheese and meats (as croissants on display) was told no as he hadn't priced for that. Ordered 2 x double espresso's which came in large cappuccino cup so coffee was cold, and no glass of water to accompany them either. Also dogs are allowed in. Not for me, Won't me back!

Just had dinner for four and it was ok we thought. First Italian we have been to that doesn't serve fillet steak. Their Gin is Gordon's (really is that the best you can serve) and vodka was Smirnoff. The food we did have was fine we thought but we won't be going back. There are much nicer Italian restaurants around.

Our first time at this restaurant. My wife and I had lunch here today and it was a popular and busy restaurant with very good Italian food. The service very friendly - albeit somewhat on the slow side, but as we discovered when we asked for our bill - to their credit the waiter said please 'do not add a gratuity as we are understaffed today and hence the slow service'...So in summary - good food, good presentation, friendly service, busy but nice atmosphere and I'm sure we will eat there again.
