I was expecting really delicious food - especially for £200/head. What was served was second rate, and also took a long time to arrive - what a rip-off. Feel cheated. Also ordered Valentine cocktails - which arrived halfway through our meal - as did the bouquet of roses (£80) - what a pathetic execution for something that cost me £600. My advise: Hutong, go jump in the lake!

As vegetarians, there wasn’t much food to choose from but the chef did make us some lovely tofu off the menu which was very nice. The food tasted great but wasn’t very filling. The rice for mains felt a bit undercooked when eating it. I would say for veggies it’s probably better to eat for lunch not dinner. It was also extremely dark so be warned. Staff weren’t super friendly either.

I’m beyond disappointed with my recent experience at Hutong. After paying a £400 deposit for a table, we were met with chaos from the moment we arrived. We had to wait outside in the freezing cold due to a massive queue, which was understandable considering Valentine’s Day, but the disorganisation didn’t end there. Once inside, we waited an additional 20 minutes just to be seated. The space was cramped, and the service was terrible, we weren’t greeted for over 15 minutes. The food was a huge letdown. For £175 per person (or £200 for window seating), the starters were appalling. The presentation was lackluster, and the pork ribs were stone cold with almost no meat, just bones. The main course was decent, but adding £50 for duck felt excessive, especially when it didn’t live up to expectations. Dessert was equally boring with no effort put into it. For the price, I expected far better quality and service. It’s clear the restaurant wasn’t prepared for the volume of guests, and that showed in every aspect of the evening. The only positives were the security at The Shard, which is always top-notch, and the cocktails at Hutong, which were great. Unfortunately, the food and service were not. A truly disappointing and frustrating experience.

Definitely DO NOT come here for food. The softshell crab was incredibly bitter and inedible. We returned the dish and the waiter / manager did not even apologize but just said that it is "meant to be like that". A quick google search tells you that softshell crabs are bitter for a few reasons: crab isn't fresh, poor handling, crab has started molting, crab liver contamination, or over cooking. Service is so bad considering we're paying £200+ per pax. Peking duck, fried rice, and prawn dumplings were good though. Everything else, you can get food for much cheaper at literally any other Chinese restaurant.

The service that we had was absolutely horrendous. The only thing that made it enjoyable was the reception team apart from that the waiter kept skipping our table, did not explain which food was which, was never around when needed, when we asked for something we would have to wait around 10mins before anything. We had to take service charge of because honestly we could not pay for such horrible service. We was also sat somewhere that a spotlight was directly in my eyes so we couldn’t see. On top of in general the restaurant being dark and the one spotlight in our faces. Definitely won’t come again.

I also had a window table booked.. on arrival I was told that I didn’t have a window table booked and I had to show my receipt in an email for proof. For paying over £500 for the evening, I wouldn’t say it was the best value for money

Beautiful place, very dark, would like clip lights on the menu, everyone had mobile phone torches on to see the menus. Was so excited to visit this place, however, food was terrible, it was all cold and buns were full of water inside. Best food was the beans, the he duck was greasy and not to put in pancakes. £65.00 tip was put on top of the bill also. Very disappointing with a very expensive bill. Sorry, would not visit again.

It was my birthday and we booked a window table looking over glorious, twinkly London city. The food at Hutong was outstanding quality and beautifully presented. The wine menu was excellent, elegant and very thoughtfully matched to the food. I had high expectations for this restaurant, but left very disappointed. I booked a Window Table experience with an 8-course fixed menu which absolutely did not meet my expectations. In fact, the dishes, which from photos and reviews seemed to be spectacular, I would categorize as "passable": bland flavours, dishes without too much character and none of the dishes tasted made me say "wow". Such a shame given that the location and interior design of the restaurant are truly beautiful and evocative, with all the potential to have a London experience that leaves its mark. Finally, the service was absolutely not up to the standard of a fine dining establishment: the dining room staff, friendly and super helpful, did not however demonstrate their preparation at the level of the type of restaurant, for example by setting and clearing the table without care. To conclude: the price (£170) is absolutely excessive for this dinner. I wouldn't recommend it.

Unfortunately because it rained a heavy fog spoiled the view. It cleared slightly before we left so were able to experience the view, albeit a bit hazy. The restaurant was elegantly decorated and added to the atmosphere. Staff were very attentive but not overbearing. We all went for the Peony set menu which we were all very happy with flavour, quantity and top notch service. It’s this rooftop place at shard’s. Ofcourse a very very nice view. Vibe and ambience inside is great too. If you don’t book in advance, you could always walk in and put the name in the waiting list. If they have seats, they ll let you in the bar. We got the bar window seat, it’s such a view. Ofcourse couldn’t order from the whole eating menu but bar menu food was pretty good. Loved the mushroom and spinach dumplings. Cocktails were great too..

Visited here November, December 24 and January 2025. Chilled and relaxed atmosphere with great views of The Thames, Tower of London, London Bridge, The City and HMS Belfast. Good thing here is you can walk in and no need to book. Snack menu is reasonably priced and the spring rolls and prawn tempura are excellent. Top end drinks (Champagne/ Cocktails) are a little pricey but you have to remember you are in the Shard and the views are excellent. We are going back for the afternoon tea which looked superb.

We decided to drive, and of course, we were late, so we lost our table. However, the staff were great at fitting us in. While waiting for our new table, we settled down at the bar, I was surprised just how small and cramped it was - you’re practically sitting on top of each other! Thankfully, we didn’t have to wait too long for our table. Dinner was a gift from friends, and we were given carte blanche to order anything from the menu. The food was nice, but I was expecting it to be on another level. It's a shame because the venue is gorgeous, and the views of London are stunning. Unfortunately, the dishes didn't live up to the setting. The roasted Peking duck was particularly disappointing, especially considering it's a signature dish. The soft shell crab was buried in a bed of chilies, we literally had to fish for them. The rest of the dishes were nice: - Hutong spicy rice - Chilli prawns - Beef tenderloin - Lamb rib - Kai lan with ginger - Chocolate tart - Mango pudding ... but nothing to write home about.

The view from the restaurant is absolutely stunning and definitely worth experiencing at least once. I reserved a table with a view, which came with a set menu—something I was fine with—and also opted for the wine pairing. However, the wine service was disappointing; glasses arrived pre-filled, so I couldn’t see what was being poured, and some wines were even served after we had finished eating. The food was okay but didn’t feel like the most authentic Chinese cuisine. For the overall experience, the bill was extremely high and not justified. Glad I tried it, but I wouldn’t go back.

I was kindly given a gift voucher for the Lotus dinner menu for 2 people with 2 complementary cocktails as a birthday present. The terms and conditions on the gift voucher specified that the service charge for this had also been paid. Even though I didn't pay for the lion's share of the meal (which was covered by the gift voucher), I've left feeling completely ripped off. I booked online in early December for a booking in February the following year. At time of booking, I completed the extensive dietary requirements section, specifying that 1 person didn't eat any fish/seafood and noted the gift voucher code within the booking as required. I received a call from the restaurant 2 days before we were due to dine, confirming dietary requirements and preferences. Despite this, absolutely no changes were made to the menu to cater for these requirements which was disappointing and (given the lengths gone to establish such requirements) really frustrating. We enjoyed cocktails in the bar area before being called to be seated at our table. It would have been helpful for the staff to have offered to take our coats and drinks to the table. As it happened, we had to struggle lugging everything ourselves through the dark to the table. I wonder if the venue would consider offering to store guests' coats somewhere? Once seated at the table, the waiter opened a bottle of lukewarm still water that was already on the table and poured it into tumblers for us, without asking if we even wanted it. For this, we realised when the bill arrived that we were charged £7.50 for this and we had to pay a "discretionary" 15% service charge on top of that! If you're going to have to pay for something, it's surely customary to ask if the diner wants it rather than assuming that they'll just pay for it?! We opted to go for the wine pairings, not (as it turned out) that we could really appreciate why the wines were paired with the food as it was served well before the food arrived - we were waiting 30 minutes for our starters to arrive. For this price point, I'd also expect to be told what the wine was. As it happened, this didn't really happen. The final dessert wine was put on our table and the waiter/sommelier just said "Saved the best 'til last" and went to walk away. I had to ask him what it was. For this, we had to pay another "discretionary" service charge of 15%! This seems quite steep for the level of service that we actually received. Finally, we had to send the bill back twice. The first bill didn't reflect that we were redeeming the gift voucher at all - despite this being on the booking and us also telling the waiter when we were first seated. The second bill arrived and it didn't take into account that the "discretionary" 15% service charge was factored into the gift voucher and even that aside, we'd been charged extra for something that we couldn't work out. Overall, we left feeling seriously overcharged. The duck was the highlight but the cucumber, spring onion and sauce were seemingly rationed. Otherwise, the rest of the food was average and certainly not worth the price. The service was poor. I accept that you pay a premium for being in the Shard and there's no doubt that the view over London is fantastic. I also accept that these comments are "First World problems" but I do expect better when paying that amount for the food and the whole experience. These are all things that could be fixed but until then, my view is that you should save your money and just pay to go up the Shard.

As it happened, we had to struggle lugging everything ourselves through the dark to the table. I wonder if the venue would consider offering to store guests' coats somewhere? Once seated at the table, the waiter opened a bottle of lukewarm still water that was already on the table and poured it into tumblers for us, without asking if we even wanted it. For this, we realised when the bill arrived that we were charged £7.50 for this and we had to pay a "discretionary" 15% service charge on top of that! If you're going to have to pay for something, it's surely customary to ask if the diner wants it rather than assuming that they'll just pay for it?! We opted to go for the wine pairings, not (as it turned out) that we could really appreciate why the wines were paired with the food as it was served well before the food arrived - we were waiting 30 minutes for our starters to arrive. For this price point, I'd also expect to be told what the wine was. As it happened, this didn't really happen. The final dessert wine was put on our table and the waiter/sommelier just said "Saved the best 'til last" and went to walk away. I had to ask him what it was. For this, we had to pay another "discretionary" service charge of 15%! This seems quite steep for the level of service that we actually received. Finally, we had to send the bill back twice. The first bill didn't reflect that we were redeeming the gift voucher at all - despite this being on the booking and us also telling the waiter when we were first seated. The second bill arrived and it didn't take into account that the "discretionary" 15% service charge was factored into the gift voucher and even that aside, we'd been charged extra for something that we couldn't work out. Overall, we left feeling seriously overcharged. The duck was the highlight but the cucumber, spring onion and sauce were seemingly rationed. Otherwise, the rest of the food was average and certainly not worth the price. The service was poor. I accept that you pay a premium for being in the Shard and there's no doubt that the view over London is fantastic. I also accept that these comments are "First World problems" but I do expect better when paying that amount for the food and the whole experience. These are all things that could be fixed but until then, my view is that you should save your money and just pay to go up the Shard.

Been here so many times, perfect date spot! My girlfriend however has never been, wanted to take her for birthday. I called to ask if they can do happy birthday on a plate they said yes. We didn’t get that btw. To even place my order i had to ask 4 times and they all said we will send the waiter, the waiter came and said can i take ur order i told him i asked 4 times he shrud his shoulders. Rude waiter ‘max’ i think his name was. Done a takeaway and going back to Nobu. They lost me as a customer despite my shanghai la membership

A huge thanks to Alex for making mine and my fiance first experience in Hutong so amazing. From start to finish the service was impeccable. Alex was super funny and warm which made the whole experience even better. The food was amazing special the Scallop/ prawns dumplings (to die for), u should most definitely come back ... I would give 10stars if I could but for now 5 start it is : )

We had a great experience at Hutong. Francesco, who served us, was incredible throughout the meal - he also helped us choose the right dishes. The peking duck is fantastic - both when served as a main, and as a side after being cut. Drinks a bit pricey, but you’re on top of the Shard! Will totally recommend and of course look for Francesco who’s been fantastic!

I made the mistake of ordering grilled fish. Apparently I was supposed to have told the waiter when ordering that I did not want the fish too dry. The grilled fish was hard and dry. It was a waste of money and response from the guy who served us was very unprofessional even though he was a likeable character. Won't be going back here.
