Sweet chilli fries are just chips with sauce on. Burger was just cheap factory made burger. Onion rings weren’t cooked properly. Just your average Tesco Coleslaw.

I was pleasantly surprised by the accommodation. I travel for work 3 nights a week on average and for the price of a room here I was blown away. Comfortable bed, great pillows, a lovely modern bathroom, fluffy towels and white company toiletries. I also ate in the restaurant. Not understanding the cage concept with the naked burger I somehow ordered 2 bowls of salad- lucky I enjoy salad! All in all it’s a lovely pub, good food, good service, good rooms. I’ll stay again when visiting friends in the area.

After a nice morning walk at carsington we decided to have lunch at the knockerdown inn , unfortunately it was closed today for staff training so on way home decided to stop at Hurt Arms Ambergate just two of us with dog .When I entered there was two tables taken and this was 1pm Tuesday lunchtime , this place used to be packed at this time whenever I’ve driven past . When I found the grumpy barman no hello or welcome just tried to ignore me so I asked if it is ok to sit in with our dog yeah in bar area only fair enough but as first time in wasn’t sure as to which area this was , ordered drinks but card machine just shoved at me even though paying with cash no sorry or please or Thankyou he just walked off . Sat in area with drinks in what was a very unfriendly atmosphere so took out business elsewhere . If you or the girl behind bar are managers here you need to change jobs , If you are staff then the manager needs some friendly and inviting staff as in this difficult time for pubs there is no room for poor customer skills . Will not be returning here again .

First shown to a grubby table, waitress explained the £10 offers then left to get r drinks. On her return we placed r order of 4 £10 meal deals. But explained very clearly one of our party very allergic to vegetabl pepper. My daughter is a vegetarian and ordered a burger, I love my meat and ordered a burger we ordered different sides. When the orders came, I said my burger should be on white bread to my daughter and she said dont touch it mum it's got salsa dressing all over it and that contains vegetable peppers, my sides were correct and my daughters also correct, but they had placed the wrong burgers on each others plates. If I had taken even one small bite I would have needed an Ambulance. No apology manager just said he would swop them. One waitress hadn't got a clue what was in the starter dip. Another waitress had an attitude problem. The table and everything on it sticky. And to top it all, they tried changing full menu price stating we didnt place order in time when on r bill it clearly stated the time we orderd and it was before 6pm . The manager came over and said he would allow us this time as if doing us a favour. He was not and please don't worry there won't be a next time I can assure you. And if you read this dont waist your money going its crap.

We visited today for the Hurt Arms martini morning and it didn’t disappoint! It was the first time we have been for the martini morning and wasn’t sure what to expect and as there wasn’t much information on Tripadvisor or any photos we could looks at. We arrived at the restaurant and were seated straight away. The lovely waitress talked through the whole experience and if I’m honest I was overwhelmed with how much was included! You start with a Prosecco, Buck’s Fizz or a Bellini. All of which taste amazing! This is quickly followed by the a continental breakfast consisting of fresh fruit, cold meats, pastries, granola and yoghurt as well tea cakes (a meal in itself)! You then order your main breakfast dish. On our table we had full English’s and eggs royal. You also get to pick between tea or coffee to accompany your food. It’s over yet! Finally you get to finish the experience with a flavoured Martini of your choice. Honestly one of the best breakfasts I’ve ever had and well worth the money. If you are thinking of booking, just do it as you won’t regret it!

Went here today for Sunday lunch. The table was sticky and hadn’t been cleaned properly. There was a sign on the table to say it has been cleaned, that was filthy too.Took ages for our order to be taken as they sat us on a sorry looking table out of the way.We had two Sunday dinners. The roast potatoes had obviously been hanging around for a few hours (maybe even since last Sunday!), the mash was instant, the vegetables were non existent apart from the attempt at cauliflower cheese which was the soggiest I’ve ever had.The drinks came during the meal.We asked for a selection of all three meats on one of the dinners but the quantity was the same as one meat - this was £8 extra!£40 for two Sunday dinners and two soft drinks in a run down pub is excessive. Would never return.

Nice Pub/Restaurant/HotelNext to Busy/noisy A6Can't fault the room/Hotel for comfort (Although could do with a chair in the room)Being a large building the ambient noise level from disrespectful guests in the restaurant area's can get high. (We asked to be moved)Food choice, taste and appreciation are individual standards. So I'm only commenting on the service and standard of cuisine.I enquired what the Soup of the day was to the young male server who didn't know & never returned. I enquired the same to the next Server who was well versed in the menu. (Australian Girl)We ordered Chilli Roasted Taco's. Which arrived as cold flavourless mince with red cabbage, lettice & chic pea's in Tortilla Wraps. I asked the Server if they were supposed to be cold. (He couldn't answer) Then a Hurt Classic Burger. The Bun was freezing cold & soggy and the Burger was raw through out. I wasn't asked how I'd like it cooked, so called a different server over and asked if they were cooked raw? You know the response! Finally a Brownie for desert which was stale and a cheesecake that was rock hard. I relayed my experience to another server, expecting a visit from A Manager. But got "I'm sorry" Overall below expectations for a seemingly above average pub/Hotel chain. Not likely to revisit.

We arrived at the restaurant and were seen and seated promptly. The waitress came over and took our drinks order and then as we were ready, took our food order too. We had a chicken chorizo meat hanger and a burger. It had been around 20 mins and our food had come out, but no drinks. I asked the waitress where our drinks were and she went to check. They arrived finally. We ate our food which, was all presented to look spectacular but to be honest was just average. The chicken and chorizo skewer was fairly dry. The sauce was fairly flavourless. The onion rings side with the burger were so greasy they weren't nice. During our meal, nobody came over to do a check back or to ask if we wanted any more drinks. We sat with our empty plates with us for a fair while before they were cleared away. These were cleared and we were left again, I had an empty drink and we hadn't been offered desserts. 15 or so mins later the waitress came over and asked if we wanted to look at desserts, we said yes. We ordered the Peach splits and the lemon meringue sundae. These looked lovely and the Peach splits was enjoyed. The lemon meringue sundae had barely and crushed meringue pieces and the tiniest bit of lemon curd, it seemed more sloppy cream and ice cream with berries.Overall the experience was underwhelming, it's such a beautiful setting but the food taste and service just didn't reflect this. We were sat around for alot of time even after finishing desserts it was very hard to get a member of staffs attention.

Food was amazing! Service was not!!!! Has to ask numerous times for someone to take out orders, not busy at all with plenty of visible bar and service staff but we were totally ignored and during our 2.5 hrs here we had to ask for our table to be cleared and order to be taken. Waitress also didn’t know what was in one of the dishes which didn’t help. Would be 5 star if it wasn’t for the non existent customer service

We visited today with our daughter for our wedding anniversary.Shown straight to our table, and a drinks order was taken, food Oder was taken shortly afterwards so everything seemed positive. After a wait of around 45 minutes we eventually got our food. We had ordered a Roast beef, Roast lamb carvery lunch and a child’s burger. Our Roasts were served in a bowl, the potion was small, so would advise on having a starter. It made it difficult to cut through meat and Yorkshire pudding. Other tables were served on plates so it becomes confusing. Food was not hot enough, and tasteless. Burger was missing beef tomato which it stated on menu. Desserts were ok. Our second order of drinks were incorrect, and I would advise to check your bill properly.

We always comment on what a great setting they have here. We visit once a month or so and usually find it quite nice. This visit though left alot to be desired. Very busy Saturday afternoon, struggled to find a clean table, tried to order drinks which took 20 minutes. Saw a table near ask a waitress where their food was as they had been waiting 55 minutes, to be told another 15 minutes. We decided to have a drink and go elsewhere.

We ordered drinks starters and mains and the starters arrived before our drinks!? I thought there was a rule against food coming out before drinks!? And the bar service in general was extremely slow ... the service was ok there was no attention to detail especially with requests like no cheese on the burger truffle fries instead of normal... a lot of things were just over looked just a shame really

After we had finished, we was sat for 50 minutes with not one staff member coming to our table to ask if we wanted another drink or desserts! We actually talked about getting the sundae & brownie & was looking forward to it! Eventually, a girl walked again right past our table so we had to shout her over & finally got some attention. Unfortunately having to wait 50 mins & having a baby with us, we decided to leave. What was annoying though was the table near us finished there lunch after us & got there dessert while we had no service at all!! I've just visited here with my family. Lovely location, interesting decor, great service. The problem was the carvery; good ingredients treated with disrespect. Great looking Yorkshires that were rock hard. Every item of veg was cold (aside from the carrots) and the protein portion of the children's carvery was tiny. Nice cutlery.A waste of an opportunity for a meal out. I wonder if we'd have been better off with the non-carvery meal as there is clearly skill somewhere in the kitchen; the lamb was cooked relatively well (it still had some pink which I like).

After a rainy walk around Matlock Bath and the surrounding countryside, we stopped for lunch. Having already booked, we were quickly moved to our table and ordered with out a problem. The food was well presented and tasty - it's a shame this is the last day of our holiday else we would have visited again. I did not see any of the negative issues mentioned in previous reviews. There was clear track and tracing, tables were spaced out and sanitisers in several places around the pub. Ordering at the table limited movement as did the one way system. Overall the bingo was fun, however... the prices of the drinks were extortionate. Were not in London? A bottle of prosecco at 26 pound is ridiculous and I cant believe they get away with it. A pitcher of pimms at 25 pound? I dont even know what to say.You would also think if you are giving out a free drink voucher that you are given a pint of lager not a tiny plastic cup, it comes across as stingey. The set up was well organised, however you wouldnt think COVID existed if you were at the bingo outside. The portaloo toilets ran out of toilet roll, clearly werent checked throughout the night and were pretty dirty by the end of it. It was okay but the prices definitely let it down!!

Shame one member of your staff has to let the whole team down. The Rude South African guy thinks it's ok to call customers a name involving a explicit body part. Caught him using various rude sign language to talk about customers. I'm a sign language teacher so know exactly what he was doing. Sort him out!! Me and my friend are out at the hurt arms on a busy week night. We had booked in advance and were made aware that we had been entered into their track and trace upon arrival, how wonderful . We were welcomed by a friendly member of the bar team who helped us with our drink selection and took us to our table. Then whilst there they clearly explained their COVID-19 guidance that they had in place. This included explains the location of the toilets and the processes that they had in place. This included explaining that food and drink orders would be taken from the bar to minimise the interactions at our table to protect our out personal bubble. Which I can say worked rather well and better than other places that we have eaten at since the reopening of restaurants. I ordered the chicken and chorizo hanger and my friend had a burger. Both meal were really nice and would definitely recommend. I saw a meal go out to another table and it look excellent I asked a member of staff and they informed me it was a Mexican hot pot with chicken .... which I definitely will come back to sample. We concluded the meal with a cookie dough skillet which was also excellent. I will say that the staff were all very friendly and the service was top class. I ordered a chicken and chorizo hanger which looked great but was cold , the waitress kindly took it away and brought me another one , unfortunately they had reheated the original one , which to me is absolutely wrong . I did complain and I did get a fresh one , however it was cold. By this time my friends had finished their meals so I gave up trying to get a hot meal. The staff were pleasant and apoplectic, the beers and gins were fab but I wouldn’t eat there again.

We booked here off the back of some excellent accommodation reviews. We were not disappointed. Check in was easy, room spacious and warm with very good quality touches. We loved the White Company toiletries! We had a lovely meal in the restaurant in the evening and breakfast (included in the price) was fab - good choice of lots of cooked dishes. The staff couldn’t have been more friendly or attentive. We would certainly stay again.Thank you

My husband and I had a super lunch here. Skye looked after us brilliantly and took care of my husband's garlic allergy. Emily and I had discussed it by email in advance, and the chef had been very accommodating. Menu has standards as well as items we'd not tried before, all excellent. Good wine list too, wide range. We'll be back!

Decided to go here on spec with my mum, stepdad and my two children aged 5 and 1. Very spacious. Decor has been very tastefully done. Comfortable seating all over. Staff were excellent, they couldn’t have done more for us, especially the chap behind the carvery section (so helpful and accommodating) and the Australian girl who even went out of her way to find my mums dog a treat after my 5 year old daughter was concerned that they didn’t have any dog treats behind the bar for him! (perhaps our fault as we run a tearoom and we offer dog treats- sorry!) I have already been raving about the place to my husband who I will surely bring to try - cauliflower cheese was to die for! There was one problem- I piled my plate up so high, I literally couldn’t eat it all. This is purely because the food looked AMAZING and tasted AMAZING Usually I’m not a fan of a carvery but this was incredible! Well done everyone - keep it up!

Stopped by The Hurt Arms this morning for breakfast with the family. We only live up the road and haven't visited since the refurbishment. Really liked the decor. We have visited numerous times over the years and the tables have been packed in making it feel quite claustrophobic. The new layout is much better. Both my partner and myself had a full English which was ample. 2 bacon, 2 sausage, 2 hash browns, black pudding, an egg, beans, toast, a large tomato and a large mushroom. It was good. Coffee & tea for us and toast & jam for our daughter. Altogether it cost £23 which I thought was fair. The staff were attentive and polite. Altogether it was a pleasant experience. We would recommend and plan to return. Thanks.

This is very nice and posh inside and the staff are very nice but quiet they have very quick services however the food sizes aren’t the biggest but the food you get is nice, and very well cooked the reason for my 3 stars is simply because the meals where small.

What a lovely place. We tried to visit once before but it was closed for renovation. So today after going to Derby my husband and I decided to try again. The staff were very friendly and we were informed there may be a wait for our food as there was a party of 24 in. I had the chargrilled lamb burger and my husband had the pork and chorizo pie. We didn't have to wait as long as we thought. The food was very good. The burger very succulent. My only fault was that I couldn't eat it all. There was to much for me but that's not really a fault. Will definitely return for an overnight stay

We decided to have a night away and went for the Sunday evening deal, b and b, evening meal and bottle of wine. We visited Cromford Mill, did a walk down the canal and had a light lunch at Wheatcrofts cafe. Our room was a larger room with a stand alone bath! Nice evening meal, good night's sleep and an excellent breakfast. Service was good too. Considering they had only opened a few weeks ago after the flood everything was very well organised. Thank you.

Had a family meal at the Hurt Arms. The pub is lovely and the staff are helpful and friendly. But the food is very poor. The menu is very limited. To be honest I think if more time was spent on concentrating on good food instead of elaborate ways to serve it that would help. I opted for the chicken skewer, which came served hanging above a bowl of chips. Now I might be wrong but 3 pieces of chicken and 2 pieces of chorizo does not represent a meal. Oh but there was two bits of raw onion and a raw carrot on the skewer. The chicken pieces were not even big, it would probably have been half a chicken breast at best. Not only was there not enough, it was not flavoured with anything and it was overcooked and dry. Yet the onion was raw! The fries were nice. Other family members opted for home baked chips, which again were tasteless and dry. They were more like roast potatoes, but they were awful non of us ate them. I couldn’t swallow them, nearly choked. My mum ordered fish, which was ok, but came with the home chips which she couldn’t eat, it also included a egg cup sized pot of mushy peas, again these were awful. Sisters went for the gammon skewer, again 3 pieces of meat? Really is that a meal? We did complain and got one meal free and 20% off. Was also offered desert free but we declined. Hi

The food was over prize I had the gammon only had 3 pieces on a hangers the veg was under cook and the chips taste like they was frozen and not cook for 11.95 not worth the money we went as a family and most of us didn’t like the meal. We did complain to them and they knock 20% off and we didn’t pay for one of the meal. we want be going again

The decor is beautiful and the refurbishments give the place a warm and contemporary feel. The rooms are beautifully decorated.

We recently visited the hurt arms during a week day. Lovely pub with a good selection of beers/spirits/wines.The decor is very quirky and staff were very friendly... unfortunately the quality of food was just not there! Myself and my partner ordered the gourmet burgers which arrived In a bird cage/afternoon tea style stand which was accompanied by the plates of sides also within the stand. The food was tasteless, the burger buns were stale and dry lacked quality overall. We shall not be visiting again in a hurry.

Nothing special burgers are the main feature of the menu. Felt limited choice. We had two children’s burgers which were dry and very crispy or burnt not brilliant, the adult burger was OK not something I would rush to have again. Service was very good staff pleasant and the pub very nice inside.

We wanted to go somewhere nice to eat for my husbands birthday meal, we had a drive around n thought how nice this placed looked so we parked up with friends and went inside, omg I couldn’t believe how cold it was inside there,I asked the lady behind the bar if the heating was on but all she said was that it was because people was going in and out of the door we didn’t sit any where near the door and we was still dithering I felt the radiators n they where freezing we couldn’t sit n finish our drinks never mind sit in comfort n eat a meal it was a shame really you’d think a place like this would of at least have some heating a specially how cold it is outside now a big let down

As part of a special deal we stayed at the Hurt Arms. On the Sunday evening we had a three course meal. We shared breads, then Pat had fish and chips which she said was very good and I had cottage pie which was excellent. Pat had the chocolate and ginger brownie and I had the strawberry short cake and clotted cream. Very nice food, good atmosphere and good service. It is easy to see why it is so popular. Breakfast the next day was also very nice. Only criticism is on the Sunday lunch time it was so busy they could have had more staff.

We booked a table for a birthday celebration. We had pre-ordered food as there was 16 of us dining. Before any food came out the manager came over & read all of the pre-order meals to check they had everything correct. We thought this was a little strange. Starters arrived & all seemed fine. When the mains arrived this is where the problems started. The crab meat in the linguine was off so this was sent back an alternative meal was offered but refused. Another diner had the chicken burger which was raw in the middle. Disgusting. Two of the children had hamburgers on cutting the burger in half we found this to be raw inside. Absolutely shocking that an established business would send out such sub standard food & especially to children. The meals were swiftly taken away & was told they probe the food before it’s served which cannot be the case. The manager then came over to advise they won’t be charging for the four meals which had been sent back. Disappointing that they felt this was appropriate action with 4 of the diners having raw & gone off food. We then waited for the desserts to come out again there was an issue with the sticky toffee pudding which the diner said it didn’t taste right. The table next to us also had an issue with there mains. The whole events of the evening spoilt the celebration. Safe to say non of the party would ever return, we are just thankful that we all realised the issues with the food rather than eating then suffering the consequences!! Be warned eat here at your own peril!

Bank Holiday Weekend and I ask my wife what she would like to do. Go to Matlock Bath, says she. So, a room booked at The Hurt Arms, Ambergate, about 6 miles away. Get there Sunday tea-time and check in........nice room, recently re-done, very well laid out and a huge bathroom with slipper bath, enormous enclosed rainfall shower too. Excellent bar and a varied, reasonably-priced menu in the restaurant. Comfortable, a really good full English breakfast, pleasant staff. What more can we ask? Highly recommended. Just a couple of small points. Had to search for the bathroom sink plug.......found it under the vanity unit. Bath plug not attached to the chain....fished it out with nail scissors. Do these things detract from the stay? Certainly not!! This business deserves to flourish. Try it, you will be just as hooked as we were. Thank you Hurt Arms.

Stayed for a weekend away. Read reviews and seemed ok. Arrived and greeted by friendly staff. Had a few drinks then shown to room and it was very clean and comfy. We were on the front of hotel which is on the A6 and it is obviously where bikers and car drivers like to speed . There is constant noise of revving engines which is the only downside . Had we have known would probably asked for room at the back. Ate in Resteraunt and had their signature burger which is superb. She had a perfectly cooked steak. Staff are great on the whole but could have been a little more interested in their jobs . It was nice for a break but the noise would possibly stop us returning again

I came here with a group of friends for a Sunday dinner and it was unreal. The options of meat and vegetables felt endless which is differently what you want for a carvery! The fact the Yorkshire puddings were homemade made this even more delish! We were that happy we stayed for desert. We will definitely be returning!!!

Always travelled from Chesterfield for our chippie suppers from here, will not be doing this again. Food for 4 ordered, fish batter was like concrete, fish, chips and fish cake tasted very heavily of grease. Total waste as we threw it away, others in there were also complaining.
