Humphrey's Of Allington in Maidstone

Have used this fish and chip shop for a number of years but service is slipping. Told we would have to wait 10-15 minutes for the food to be cooked but it took closer to 30 minutes. They were busy but no attempt to apologise for the delays especially as people were coming in after me and getting served quicker for the same food. I make no excuse for being grumpy. Will be complaining to Chris next time I see him.

Waited 35 minutes for chips 2 weeks ago, 20 mins for chips a week ago and tried tonight and told both of my cards were declined!! I suggested their machine may be at fault but was given the response “it works for others” surprise surprise Papa’s accepted my cards. Tried to complain privately to the owner but no response to my messenger message.

Please serve customers in the order they arrive instead of ignoring them and serving others who came in after.

Batter was so soggy on large cod it just turnt to mush. Oil tasted as though it hadn’t been changed in a while so chips, fish cake etc tasted horrible. Wouldn’t even waste my time entering to grab a wooden fork in future. Yuk!

Lived in 3 places in the south east, and this is hands down my favourite fish and chips takeaway. Big portions, always cooked to perfection. Just had a piece of rock and some calamari that were both as soft as butter. Thank you and well done 👏.

I am waiting on a refund that I will never get the whole £32 order went in the bin I ordered on just eat and it came completely covered in oil wasn't left to drain when my husband called they said we would get a refund I was then told by just eat that no refund will be given as shop has refused refund. The advice we were given on the phone was try it yeah thanks I'm pregnant and it was clearly under cooked fish thanks just to let you know it's actually dangerous for under cooked fish to be consumed by a pregnant woman! Don't give this advice in future please. Would really like my money back and for you guys to just double check quality control before sending. My parents use you all the time for years so they recommend you and the dinner was for them as well they were appalled you sent food out like that. I get everyone has off days and I hope to give a better review in future but stand by your word of a refund!!!

Ordered from just eat and the food arrived undercooked, oliy and soggy the portions were tiny and chips were like mush. When I called I was offered a refund and then it was refused the next day when followed up with just eat. Very disappointed I'll stick to using big chains from now on and not small business at least they have better standards in quality and customer service. Just to add, I would have been happy to give the food back and have it redone but was offered a refund before it was suggested and the reply to this review is a perfect example of the poor service and lack of care.

Ordered Cod and Chips and 2 jumbo sausages as a treat. The chips were cooked to perfection and the cod was extremely tasty. The sausages were for a 10 Yr old labradoodle. Im sure he enjoyed at least one of them as the other mysteriously dissapeared on the journey from my house to his 😆 Thankyou Humphrey's for a lovely dinner

Excellent fish and chips. Always fresh, although I always have a small cod it’s always quite large. Excellent burgers and half price on Thursday. Even had them for our wedding reception last year. Placed a large order for about 25 meals and all our guests praised the food.

Excellent fish and chips. It was the thickest piece of fish I have had in a long time. Very moist and tasty.

Firstly the chips were very big and cut un proportional with lots of green marks all over them , secondly there was a hair the size and smell of a pube must have been the chip cutters job. Sack the chip cutter !!

Food was still lovely and hot when delivered, seafood cooked perfectly, as was the cod and the burger we had. Will definitely use again. Price spent is total order not per person. Great value compared to other chip shops in Maidstone

Best fish and chip shop in the local area. On deliveroo as well. Such good chips I can't praise them enough.

Never seems to be a large piece of cod compared to other local chip shops ! Portion size always small🤨

UPDATE 4 JULY 2022 I ordered 1x xtra large cod and 1 large portion of chips which I shared with my other half (NOTE this was a very fulfilling meal) , this was ample for both of us. The quality was excellent, one of the best fish and chips I have ever had. If I get the same quality of food and friendly customer service next time I visit, I will upgrade to 5stars. The large cod and normal portion of chips was a real challenge, in the future I will order the small cod. If you are also visiting other retailers at the centre be aware that there are limitations on the time you can park your vehicle free of charge. Note when we shopped at Humphrey's we paid by Amex and saved £5 in their Shop Small promotion.

Value for money, good food. Some staff are very friendly, these are the younger staff.. they are lovely and helpful.

went to this chippy ,,asked for two large cod chips got to my car was given 2 small pieces of fish ,,one was mainly batter and very little cod ,,wrapped it all up and took it back,,where i was told we given small portions which i never asked for,bit of banter in shop ..in the end was given one bit of fish back and and went on my way with my same cold chips in hand paid 16 pound for all this with 2 drinks ,very small portions of fish i will not use this chip shop in future.

Come here a little too often but the quality and service is outstanding Always greeted with a wonderful smile so the day on the dust carts is great knowing the great food is appreciated and customer service is outstanding, always on my possible break time stop off 😀

was disappointed my daughter wanted to by us dinner and she ordered and paid for a large chips for us to share and 8 chicken nuggets for each of us when she got home and we looked we had one lot of 8 nuggets and one with 7 in and a small portion of chips

Always good quality fish. Gluten free options Monday and Tuesday too. Good prices, The staff are friendly, full covid safe processes. Wouldn't buy my fish and chips anywhere else.

Humphrey's seem to be doing everything right in these sad covid times. Service from the young girls working in the shop was excellent, very friendly and polite and our fish & chips was excellent. One very happy and full family in my house.

The worst fish I have ever had, such a shame when it is supposed to be a treat. Fish looked anaemic and was greasy beyond belief, I literally feel sick thinking about it again. The batter wasn't crispy in the slightest, I would actually describe it as slimy. The chips were OK although a little cold (probably because we had them delivered though) and we were missing a portion. The Customer Service on the phone was incredibly unprofessional, the female member of staff really couldn't care less. There was no apology or offer of recompense. And owner before you think you are clever in responding to my review and attempt to write it off because my surname is the same as the previous negative review, yes I am the wife of the previous reviewer, but I am also entitled as a customer to review the product you provided to me. You don't appear to take constructive criticism well but as you have said in your previous responses that you rely on honest and sincere feedback I thought this might help.

Rubbish fish and chips made us all sick for about a week avoid you can see here the owner clearly dint like when he is challenged on all the bad feedback. Fish was cold in middle just like this other guys experience here, chips were dripping in fat too, we been coming here a while but must admit it's been going down hill a while now wont be returning. Paid for 2x large chips, only received 1 lot. Phoned the rude woman at this place who couldn't care less. If that was me I would have sent another one straight away. Not only this but they were the WORST fish and chips we have ever had disgusting, trading standards been informed, SEE REPLY so I have been abusing their system i will be taking this up with them direct now. Also very interesting considering thr lady on the phone admitted to forgetting to add the chips. Disgusting way to run a business shame on you. Hope you go bust!!

Used this chippy for years but I came in last week and the chips were white and soggy and went straight in the bin. Came in the week before and they were orange and looked like they had been fried twice. These went in the bin too. I will give them one more chance unfortunately.

We visit Humphrey's every pay day, everyone in the office is always eager to order. We all love the lunchtime specials. Lovely team working there. Will always be our local go to for a payday lunch.

A good local chippy. We use it fairly infrequently but have never had a bad meal. Fish and chips seems more expensive than I would imagine but I think this place is about average compared to other local shops. Place always seems very clean. Good portion sizes and is generally fairly busy.

I drive for miles to get the best fish chips, I do not understand the negative review and is not my experience. We felt compelled to write a review. Myself, my wife and daughter really look forward to Pie, Cod and Sausage all with chips, It's always clean and the staff are really friendly

Cannot agree with the 2 other reviews, nor can my friends & neighbours who have used this shop & refuse to go back. Unhygienic -young lads turning up from the back room & handling food without washing hands or using gloves to handle non-fish/chip food. For vegetarians sausage/saveloys all cooked in the same fryer as the fish. Totally over priced & with poor customer service & attitude & poor quality & poor tasting fish & chips.

Used them for years as failed to find any other Chippy that comes close! Fresh high quality food!
