Humphrey's Of Allington in Maidstone

Cold food and awful portion sizes and really not worth the money!! Got fish and chips for the family what I received, well it wasn’t going to feed a family of 4!!

Ordered a very large order for a corporate event for 50 people, and couldn’t be more grateful for the quality of service and food we received. All of the food was fantastic, and everything we ordered was received, and packed in a way that made it so easy for us to distribute to our group. A special thanks to Clare and Chris for their help when placing the order and answering my many questions. A massive thanks to all!

Best value for money for a fish and chip shop I’ve ever come across, lovely thick piece of fish, very tasty cod, nice big portion of chips, mushy peas were lovely, definitely would go back again in the future

Real British Fish and Chips. I WONT AND DONT GO ANYWHERE ELSE. So I live in central Maidstone, for years I have used A long standing institution of a Fish and Chip shop in Central Maidstone, if your from Maidstone you will know who I mean. But I don’t know if they have Been taken over/sold by the family who have run it for at least one generation that I know of, or standard has dropped. But I had become sick of paying £10 for large Cod/Haddock, Cutting into it to find the Thinest Fillet of fish possible. All Batter. It looks like a nice large chunky piece of fish, But ah the but the reality. It’s the Tinest thinest piece of fish, so thin you could probably see through without the batter. The Batter that is the distortion of your visual perception of this flimsy flam piece of fish. Now my wife KNOWs how to Cook I rarely have a takeaway because 9 times out of ten she can do better, accept for Chinese and Fish and Chips it’s a heat thing, apparently, domestic fryers etc just don’t get hot enough. She knows technic, etc. She knows what they are doing. Taking the cheapest Thinest Fillets that probably aren’t even Cod but Pollock (it can pass as Cod to most. Haddock you can’t Fake) They commit the crime of Double Dipping, Dip Once and Fry, Then Dip again, So you are paying £10 for Batter They may Not be doing this in Shop because customers might see. but it is definitely going on with all delivery orders, I have tried Several Chip Shop in and around Maidstone, all I have tried do the same thing. Humphreys IS THE ONLY CHIP SHOP THAT YOU CAN STILL GET REAL BRITISH FISH AND CHIPS AND GET WHAT YOU PAY FOR. Big Flakes of Cod not miserable mush not a Flake in sight to stab your fork into, but having to shovel it like mushy peas. If you like paying and overpaying for something that you're Not Even Getting, Then by all means carry on And Leave the Real Fish for us that love it. Now I have Found The Real Deal, I WONT GO ANYWHERE ELSE.

Always good quality and always within the time scale they give you you maybe 10 minutes either side but hey the quality of the food more than makes up for that it’s the only fish and chip shop I use now keep up the good work

from ordering it took 2hr 30 mins ,this is dreadful,, I'm not using you again

I've never had a problem when ordering from Humphrey's before, but yesterday I ordered a large cod and chips. The chips were fine, but the cod hadn't been de-scaled, so I kept having to stop and pick pieces of what felt like plastic out of my mouth.

Time kept changing fish very hard and very greasy

Please avoid at all cost to your health and your wallet. Ordered rock and chips through just eat ( who have partially refunded me) and what arrived wasn't all rock. We both had half a rock each and some othe fish put in with it. (Rock has a central bone so very distinct). The fish was like a pate consistency which tasted like it had been frozen and not cooked properly. I am awaiting to see if I have food poisoning from the measly mouthful I ate ( second mouthful was spat out). There are bad reviews on just eat when you look but there best customer "kim" keeps their star rating higher than It should be. Eat at your own risk. If I could give minus stars it would be minus 5!

most of the chips were very hard and the fish was very small

Chips were a let down this week 🙁They are normally so fresh, but a bit dry & lots of ‘bits’ tonight. Fish was lovely as usual.

Good fish n chips overall, especially for an ‘inland’ chippy, ie not by the sea. We always have a small, a large cod and chips, not tried anything else other than the mushy peas. Cod is white and meaty and sizing is good, the batter is fresh tasting and crispy and the chips are much better than most places, with only the odd one or two over cooked. We don’t live nearby but travel to this one as not impressed with any in Maidstone and bearsted.

Of all the places in Maidstone, Humphrey’s is the best. Living in town we’ve got a chippy a 3 min drive away, but always choose to drive to Allington to order from Humphreys instead, which we often do once or twice a week.

One of my items was not available so they put 2 substitutions in, brilliant 🤩 they did try to call me prior to delivery to let me know but I didn’t have a signal. So rather than make me wait for the delivery , they delivered extra so that no one went without! Thank you so much . Always had a lovely take out from Humphrey’s .. top job 👍🏻

Best fish and chips we've had for a long time.

Used a few times now and very pleased with portion size and quality.

How do you mess up a burger that badly? Never used this place before and it was disgusting. Yuk. Wont be ordering from here again.

First time here. Fair prices in comparison to others I've seen, (actually very good prices). Biggest piece of large size Cod I've had from a chippy. The Gov' was pleased with hers so both very satisfied.

Food was hot and non greasy. Portion size was good. Rock had bones in which is unusual. Could have been a better piece for the money. However we will use again.

The food was nice but the portions sizes are so small ,and that be only reason not to order again!

Very disappointed with my last two visits. The seniors specials are obviously cooked first and kept warm until served. The batter was soggy and the fish dry. What's happened to cooking to order?

Best fish and chips I've had in this area. As good as my favourite chippy in Newquay. Had the kids cod and chips fir £5.50 and the cod was chunky skinless loin and not the cheap bitter dry tail.

This was one of our favourite meals ever ordered on JustEat. Gorgeous, pure white cod in a delicious crispy batter and lovely chips, delivered piping hot. Would 100 percent order again!

Have used this fish and chip shop for a number of years but service is slipping. Told we would have to wait 10-15 minutes for the food to be cooked but it took closer to 30 minutes. They were busy but no attempt to apologise for the delays especially as people were coming in after me and getting served quicker for the same food. I make no excuse for being grumpy. Will be complaining to Chris next time I see him.

Half my order didn’t turn up, extremely disappointing.

Waited 35 minutes for chips 2 weeks ago, 20 mins for chips a week ago and tried tonight and told both of my cards were declined!! I suggested their machine may be at fault but was given the response “it works for others” surprise surprise Papa’s accepted my cards. Tried to complain privately to the owner but no response to my messenger message.

Couldn't assign a driver,food was meant to be delivered from 1740,took until almost 1840 to get it. Burger was delicious,onion rings ok,chips acceptable.

Food was delivered with a smile from the driver so thank u for being pleasant. Got what I ordered, sausage was a little on the cold side and and bit pink

Food was ok - the bap was a rip off though, small and hard - chicken pie looked bit small as well, specifically asked for salt & vinegar on chips and they couldnt be bothered to do that - would i order again ... prob not !!!

I’m sorry guys but we didn’t have a good experience this evening . Our food was very dry. The chips too hard to eat and the large cod was burnt . We have never had this problem before but would be very reluctant to order again.

Best fish and chips ever had. Overall consistency and flavour. Perfect. I've never known anywhere to batter or breadcrumb seafood so well and fry it , and it isn't tough at all. Well done + thank you!

I thought barming was good but this was fantastic

Was very nice tbh apart from the chips was very mushy and anaemic not cooked nicely I’d order again if they cooked the chips better and longer for a crispy out side next time

Please serve customers in the order they arrive instead of ignoring them and serving others who came in after.

Food was absolutely delicious and nice and hot. The only problem was that it took almost 2hrs for delivery but that was Just Eats fault and not the restaurant. Will definitely order again.

Batter was so soggy on large cod it just turnt to mush. Oil tasted as though it hadn’t been changed in a while so chips, fish cake etc tasted horrible. Wouldn’t even waste my time entering to grab a wooden fork in future. Yuk!

Lived in 3 places in the south east, and this is hands down my favourite fish and chips takeaway. Big portions, always cooked to perfection. Just had a piece of rock and some calamari that were both as soft as butter. Thank you and well done 👏.

Food was good. Only issue was being charged £3.50 for a tiny squeeze tub of ketchup!

I am waiting on a refund that I will never get the whole £32 order went in the bin I ordered on just eat and it came completely covered in oil wasn't left to drain when my husband called they said we would get a refund I was then told by just eat that no refund will be given as shop has refused refund. The advice we were given on the phone was try it yeah thanks I'm pregnant and it was clearly under cooked fish thanks just to let you know it's actually dangerous for under cooked fish to be consumed by a pregnant woman! Don't give this advice in future please. Would really like my money back and for you guys to just double check quality control before sending. My parents use you all the time for years so they recommend you and the dinner was for them as well they were appalled you sent food out like that. I get everyone has off days and I hope to give a better review in future but stand by your word of a refund!!!

Ordered from just eat and the food arrived undercooked, oliy and soggy the portions were tiny and chips were like mush. When I called I was offered a refund and then it was refused the next day when followed up with just eat. Very disappointed I'll stick to using big chains from now on and not small business at least they have better standards in quality and customer service. Just to add, I would have been happy to give the food back and have it redone but was offered a refund before it was suggested and the reply to this review is a perfect example of the poor service and lack of care.

Food arrived cold and had to be reheated. The portion size for a £4 LARGE chips was abysmal. Think we'll order elsewhere next time as this was quite disappointing.

Fish was lovely, as usual, but the chips tasted like they were reheated from lunch. They were awful.

Ordered Cod and Chips and 2 jumbo sausages as a treat. The chips were cooked to perfection and the cod was extremely tasty. The sausages were for a 10 Yr old labradoodle. Im sure he enjoyed at least one of them as the other mysteriously dissapeared on the journey from my house to his 😆 Thankyou Humphrey's for a lovely dinner

Half our order was missing and the food was just full of grease! Wasn't able to eat it due to the overflowing grease.

Good food again cannot fault this company

Asked for haddock got a soggy lump of cod, asked for certain drinks and got the complete opposite. Basically if you can’t complete a order grow some balls and speak up cause now I’ll be getting my money back :)
