Dad was looking for a traditional pie and mash place. This was perfect. Exactly what he had wanted and remembered from when he was young. The pie was well filled and tasty, mash was creamy and the liquor (gravy) was a classic. A limited traditional menu in a funky wooden booth cafe. Service was friendly. Would definitely go back again.

A warm welcome as soon as you walk in the door from super friendly staff. The service was first class and our food was in front of us within a couple of minutes. Having visited more PM&L shops than I can recall the food was par excellence and did not disappoint with more than enough to satisfy my appetite. Suffice it to say that I have now been back there several times and will call in again next week.

Quick 2+1+1 for lunch while waiting for client to arrive at Heathrow T5. Perfect waiting point 15 minutes to T5 much better than M40 Services Beaconsfield. Guess where i’ll be waiting in future during Hughes’s opening hours. As good as any i’ve tried in East London, lovely friendly staff. Just be aware Cash Only.

I promised my grandad when he got out of hospital I would take him to the pie and mash shop which the man in the hospital bed next to him had recommended! We drove 30mins and it was well worth it! Both my grandparents loved it and they are hard to please when it comes to pie, mash and stewed eels!! Everyone was Lovely friendly and welcoming which made there little outing even better! Highly recommend! We will definitely be back!

Delicious and authentic pie and mash. Vegan pies are also excellent!! Just like traditional east end pies from Bethnal Green.

This is the best pie and mash I have ever tasted. Just THE best pies .... massively flavoursome. I could not fault it in any way. Covid compliant with hand sanitizer. Definitely worth a stop if you’re passing by.

I found you on line, I decided to visit as was going to stay at my brothers in the new forest, he love it, we used to go to Cooks in Shepherd’s Bush. The staff could not have been more helpful in making sure it was packed safe for the journey. It was as good as it looked. The pie was amazing

Tried to review vis Google - always asking for more personal data. Anyway Pies and Mash are part of our upbringing in East London. When visiting my sisters there it meant a trip to Kellys Pie shop - great. We have told them about the great Pies at Hughes and they are really looking forward to come to us. Hughes Pies match what we know and are actually even better. We wish Hughes good luck and thanks for bringing this great meal closer to us.

Lunch for me was roast lamb with a generous portion of veg and very reasonably priced. Great cafe with friendly staff and a wide range of meals. Well worth a visit!
