Called on my return from Filey food was OK but over salty

The Satan’s Lollipops challenge looks intense, but the reward—a spot on the wall of fame—might just be worth the pain. If you're into ribs, steaks, or chicken & waffles, they've got you covered with their combos and plates. The ribs are slathered in a sticky sweet bourbon glaze that sounds like heaven, and they source their beef from just down the road, so you know it's fresh. Huckleberry's is definitely not for the faint of heart or small of stomach, but if you're looking to indulge in some American comfort food with a twist, this is the spot!

must admit not my thing. 6 of us visited for some food but we only ate starters as the food was just too much and too greasy. kids loved the puddings.

Staff very friendly. Had steak and eggs. Paid restaurant price for a burnt steak. Tasted like burnt toast. Manager was totally uninterested in my complaint. Actually went out of our way to get there.Toilets disgusting. Never again.

The best ribs I have ever had in my life, would highly recommend and will definitely be back before my holiday ends.

Called in on a Monday on way back to Barnsley from Hummanby Gap purely as we had been here back in around 2014/15 was closed for a while and saw it was back open so called in though it looks it has changed owners as the decor seems to have been downgraded, looks more like a roadside cafe now with the exception of some stranger things posters n a pinball machine, Pretty quiet for a sunny Monday during school holidays, the waitress who served us was a northern lass she was great, however there was quite a few flies in there and the place is looking pretty tired and in dire need of a revamp. Didn't use the toilets before ordering and as others had said if I had or actually checked the reviews we might have not bothered, The blokes toilets are grim as, they stink of damp and pee, one toilet was missing a lid, bit of graffiti and a nice paddling pool of urine, not great, the boss aka my Mrs reports the women's wasn't much better, going by some of the reviews this has been a problem for in excess of 6 months?? Which begs the question if they can't be arsed to fix/keep the toilets clean, what else can't they be arsed with. I ordered a burger with candied jalapeños inside, though these just looked like normal jalapeños to me, there was no salad on the burger and it was a bit bland but there was plenty of meat, I also got some chicken tenders which were actually quite tasty, both were cooked thoroughly and the servings of chips was generous, we had milkshakes although they tasted alright, can't help but feel they would just nesquik or something similar. The food tasted alright, it was good value for money for what you got in terms of quantity, it wasn't anything to rant and rave about though, it's a shame really, I feel like they could have something really special here if they invested some money n time on the decor I.e get some furniture which has an American diner vibe and not that of a school cafeteria, and sorting out the toilets, (come on guys, wetherspoon toilets look like the Hilton by comparison), it's a sad day when you can't recommend a restaurant over a mcdonalds , but unfortunately this is the case,

Lovely American feel to the place. Was seated and ordered. Short waits on food and was warm and cooked well. Only gripe is location. You wouldn't plan a trip here as it's off a motorway

Didn’t want to leave one star as the waitress was friendly, however we were disappointed. Called in for a round of drinks on the way to Whitby and were told there was a wait on food - which is fair enough. We were then told as we began to place an order that unless we ordered a main meal we weren’t allowed to order an alcoholic drink “due to licensing laws”, had we had a chance to give our order they would have realised we had intended to have some food too but due to the assumption (and the fact that this was not stated in the menu or on a sign anywhere in the premises) we chose to leave without ordering anything. Toilet out of order and spare they offered instead was filthy. Atmosphere felt awkward and despite it supposing to be an “American diner” vibe it just felt like an empty white room with kitch signs on the wall - no music to be heard.. Won’t be calling here again.

Stopped for coffee. They had almond milk but no pouring cream.

Food luke warm. Coffee was cold and was returned. We had to wipe down table and seating ourselves. Customer toilets were out of order so had to use staff toilet. This was disgusting. Broken toilet seat on floor, broken wall tiles, dirty floor and sink and inside the bottom of the toilet was absolutely disgusting. Will definately not be visiting again.

Lucky to be getting a one-star. After travelling for hours & needing to use the rest room which by the way, was absolutely disgusting, the smell was awful. The cleanliness of the toilets was dirty too. I was told I had to purchase something to use the restroom. The cheapest option was £3.25 for a can of coke. Absolte joke will never go in here again. The staff weren't helpful or inviting.

Both male and female toilets were very dirty and made us think about how dirty the kitchen might be. Having checked out the menu we considered paying £16 for a burger to be excessive and not worth the money. A thank you to the manager for clearing a table for us both and our dog.

Came for a birthday meal with our children and grandchildren. Food was tasty and plentiful. The stand out feature was the service, particularly the way that the children were included; they loved helping out and really appreciated their tips! Shame about the toilets.

Rubbish food rubbish service charged extra and toilets and palce was very run down

Literally left the establishment 10 minutes ago. Food was not the best, soggy burger bun because it had been frozen. The hotdogs had toppings that resembled slop. They were very bland. Had to leave the side of corn on the cob as it had gone off. As we were halfway through a long journey, I visited the bathroom. Oh my gosh. It was squalor. It smelt strong of stale urine, the toilets themselves, well I don't think they have ever been cleaned since installation. I wouldn't let my children go. Instead, we got back in our car and went to a garden centre not far up the road. I just wish we had eaten there as well. I think a visit to Costco for afew gallon of bleach is the only tip I could give to Huckleberries.

Nice staff. Filthy toilets, blocked loos in cubicles, toilet paper and wee. Mens urinals same. Worst loos I have seen im a long time. Feel sorry for staff there.

We loved the mac & cheese and it was plenty big enough for me and my daughter to share especially as we were having dessert 🍨 🥧 🍦 🍡 will definitely be going back.

Lovely American diner with big portions

Lovely diner, food was amazing!! Would definitely recommend coming here. We watched a beard meets food video of him here, which inspired us to come and very happy we did.

Food was OK but the friendly staff made me want to return.

We had such a wonderful visit here on our way to the seaside. The staff were so welcoming and really looked after ourselves and our little girl. She was given a balloon and loved playing with it. The balloon blew away in the car park as we left and a staff member ran out with another one! They really went the extra mile interacting with our daughter and checking in with us. The food was lovely and we will be back again.

Wicked place, lovely staff and amazing food. Found it by chance en route from York to Whitby and will be making it okey off our annual journey there (it’s that good!). We had pancakes… next time we’re coming for the challenges! Thanks Jonathan and the team 🥰

Lovely friendly server, fast service, food cooked just right, and seasonings and drizzles were just right! Tried the donut burger, and was super impressed with the glazed donuts, worth a fun try if you have a sweet tooth and are brave. Those donuts made me keep eating. And loved the Stranger Things diner inspired decor!

We had a mixed experience. Chips were mediocre and very salty. Burger tasted burnt and lacked flavour. On the other hand ribs were nice and service good.

Friendly staff and great food, decent price.

We went here for my son's birthday and the host Jono went above and beyond to make it a fantastic experience. The food was really good, the milkshakes were amazing and the atmosphere even better. I just wanted to say a huge thanks for making it such a delightful experience. We will definitely be returning in the future. Keep up the amazing work. Thank you so much

We came here for breakfast this morning, we (and I) have been here a few times and it's been good up until the last 2 times... The quality of the food I had was good up until the point that I found a hair on the plate under my eggs, I pointed this out to one of their waiting staff and they did admittedly remove the drinks from our bill, though the only reason I'm highlighting this is the last time we visited here was on an evening a few months ago where we had eaten, got desserts and my wife had a hair on her plate, the concerning thing was that it was either a beard hair or a pube, from what we could see none of the kitchen staff had any sort of hairnet or hats on, so kitchen hygiene clearly isn't a priority anymore here. It's a bit out of our way and sadly I don't think we'll be rushing back any time soon, which is a shame because we like that bbq american style food.

I’ve been with my husband twice now after hearing about how tasty the food was we decided to travel from blyth in Northumberland to give this diner a try… and boy were we amazed It’s got a real American feel and styled that way, the music is American country style-ish really cool, the cocktails are fantastic the food is out of this world real old fashioned style soul food Well worth the money and the travel, totally hits right 👌 You all have to go just to experience the magic this place creates.

Really great American restaurant! We came here more as a fun stop but the food was really great quality - I had the Brunch Waffle which I highly recommend. It had the base of a sweet waffle, Haloumi, friend sunny side up egg and crispy bacon with maple syrup. The unlimited coffee was also really nice! Was pleasantly surprised and had a great breakfast. The service was also great - we were sat quickly and served nicely.

Huckleberry...you have been flawless in creating a relaxed environment and amazing food on two visits. John and Elle (Linda) both were amazing with their customer service and made the experience better as they were tentative, great with children and also provided appropriate humour. The food was delicious as the portion sizes were on the larger side however despite this, you're well looked after. We had dinner and were pleasantly astonished that ended up returning the morning after following our great experience. Again, flawless and an amazing dining experience. Would I recommend? 100%, although it is in the middle of no where, it is highly worth it. Driving past and acknowledging the place doesn't do justice. I've tried a lot of American diners however this one trumps the rest.

Food wasn’t great at all, wouldn’t go back ever again tbh, cost £50 wildnt have paid £20 for it. Toilets were dirty don’t waste your money going.

Great family day out at Huckleberry’s Diner York. Got defeated by the Chili Dog Challenge. Jon the owner was an amazing host. Really made us all feel welcome and even got my daughter cleaning the tables lol 😂 If you’re in the area, I’d definitely recommend this place for somewhere to eat.

Came just now (24/05/2024 at 11am) only just left after having a beautiful breakfast with the husband and three children. All had milkshakes (blueberry one was incredible), kids had pancakes and mini full English, steak and eggs and breakfast burger. Absolutely gorgeous food. Husband then went on to have the moana burger and corn dogs. Again, bloody gorgeous. It's our daughters birthday and the lovely gentleman went and got a card for her, gave the kids some pennies to use the vending machine. The staff here go above and beyond. It's a phenomenal thing. 10/10 would definitely recommend to anyone. We've been a few times before since it reopened and every time it's been brilliant. Wasn't too much trouble to order Pecan Pie and Key Lime Pie to take home either... which the bloke understood immediately and even put in some disposable cutlery for me incase I want it on the way home! Thankyou Huckleberrys for a lovely morning. You superstars!

This place is ok if you just need to stop to refuel. Not a destination restaurant by any means. It has a general air of being run down , just going through the motions, there is no effort made to make it look welcoming. It was fairly empty when we visited but we still waited a fair while for the food to arrive, service was friendly and crayons were brought for our 4 yr old. I ordered a dish with a side order of onion rings, when it arrived there were already onion rings on the plate, I queried this and was told that yes, onion rings are part of this meal, so she hadn't brought the side order ?? The food was ok, but nothing special, fairly standard cheap café fare and certainly nowhere near fulfilled an authentic American diner experience. On the whole - disappointing.

Clean diner & the food was excellent

Terrible, air conditioning fans dirty, dust hanging, bathrooms dirty, the only thing made on site was an inedible salad. French fries are best frozen.

Our waitress was great and super friendly. The food was below average and very bland, which was really disappointing as we were looking forward to our meals after reading all the 5 star the reviews. After eating there, I don’t believe the reviews are real, the food lacked flavour and the “thick shake” was like watered down chocolate milk. There was mould at our table which made us worried how clean the kitchen was. The bathroom was soaking wet, reeked of pee and didn’t have any soap. If I would have used the bathroom before ordering, we would have left immediately. We were surprised walking in to an empty restaurant at 5pm on a Friday, but understood why after eating there and using the bathrooms. It was also extremely overpriced. We spent 92£ for 3 adults and 2 children and it wasn’t worth more than 50£ altogether. I do not recommend this restaurant and would never return.

The diner itself is cute and the service is good as the staff is friendly, but I was very surprised that the reviews seem so great for this place as I genuinely don’t understand how because besides the friendly customer - the food was not very good, very overpriced and came out quite cold. The female bathroom smelled horrendously of urine and had no soap, and there was mould along the edges of the tables which we didn’t realise until the end and made us wonder and worry about the cleanliness of the rest of the establishment especially the kitchen. Within 30 minutes of leaving both my little ones were complaining of sore belly’s. I wouldn’t recommend and I wouldn’t go back.

The ladies' toilets were filthy.. in need of cleaning and a paint job. Staff very misleading. We arrived at change over from breakfast to lunch.. they said 30 min wait.. we presumed that was until we received food. No... we couldn't order for 30 mins, then a 20 min wait... by then, we had ordered drinks.. an honest mistake, but staff need to be clearer when seating customers. £3.20 for bottle diet coke served in a bottle with a straw and at room temp...

Wouldn’t even let my six year old daughter use the toilet, she had to cross a busy road and go to the garage instead what miserable people

Food was good but the Coffee was not. We all enjoyed it. Especially the grand kids.

Lovely staff and food abit over priced for what you get but generally nice cocktails to die for but the hallway to the toilet seriously needs addressing it absolutely stunk of urine once in the toilet it wasn't to bad.

Staff were very welcoming and chatty. Dining area very uniquely decorated , toilets although although clean need an upgrade. Plenty of parking Food was disappointing, both meals were over cooked in fact charred . Coffee was delicious and sweets looked divine. Young male chef seemed to have eye on phone more than food . Shame really .

Had a pig burger with pulled pork OMG... the best burger I have ever had. Each element was delicious. The fries . Coleslaw everything.. then the milkshakes another Wow... Will definitely return when near the area again.

Staff so nice here very welcoming and can't do enough for you. Food was great too and plenty of it so wear your "big pants". Everything on one level so fairly accessible for people with disabilities.

Our first visit here, and I can safely say that it was just the right thing in the right place. We were in need of a loo and refreshments and this place was ideal for both. The lasses here made us feel very welcome and were very very pleasant, which was more than welcome on a dreary, wet day where the traffic on the A64 was abysmally bad! Will be going back again when we're in the area, that's for sure!!

Loved finding this place on the way to whitby. They have great vegan food. I had the cauliflower steak burger, it came with a pickle salad and fries. What a treat it was too. Was so tasty and filling. Would recommend anyone going to whitby to pop in on your way there. Its just outside of whitby. I'll definitely be going back. All cooked freshly too. Perfect .

I have looked forward to trying an American Diner for years. I was quite disappointed. The burger and sauages, weren't just chargrilled, they were char burnt, and dry as the dessert. We should have complained, but being a first visit didn't like to. I did mention it when I paid the bill. The service was slow, apparently due to the preparation of a large takeaway order. It wasn't what I expected of an American themed diner.

Had a veggie breakfast was lovely. Wasn't liking the attitude of the fella that served me.

Full breakfast £15 or as close as a penny! There is nothing to write home about! Was I considered poor on the cafe just down the road at almost half the price! And a much better breakfast 😋 shame though! Although Huckleberrys do a Hugh food challenge on several dishes that do fit the bill! And you can have your photo added to the hall of fame! I won't be put off by the breakfast, but won't go for another untill they improve them with quality and quantity! But will probably go back to have a go at some if these big eat meals! No idea how much they cost but they did look amazing in the pictures!

Great comfort food for a long journey!

The food was nice, just found the chips to be a bit too salty and the burger patty was slightly burned. The restaurant itself is nicely decorated with a wall of previous people who completed or failed one of their food challenges.

Great service and food was exactly what it said on the menu. Me and grandson couldn't eat it all so the gave us a takeaway box to put the rest in and take with us.

Everything was 10/10 ! We called for breakfast and weren't starving so we just had a breakfast bap but it was beautiful! The staff were super friendly and couldn't do enough to help! The cup of tea hit the spot too! We will definitely be back !!!

Came here on our way home from Filey. Ordered a Breakfast Burger without egg. The burger was so nice, had a beef pattie, sausage bacon with a side of has brown and beans. It was absolutely lovely apart from the hash brown has been over cooked slightly but was lovely! Definitely recommend

where to start. asked to sit at an empty table by the window but got put in the middle of the restaurant near the bar and toilets. was told the window table was booked, but no other customer sat at the table the whole time we were sat down. asked for a lemonade for drinks. was told was unavailable despite there being a fridge full 1st dish came out wrong from the menu. no consideration to dietary needs. replacement came out cold with unedible chips. chefs arguing in full view. and the toilets were shocking. dirty loo roll on the floor

Staff were nice and friendly, food shocking !! Soggy bap from freezer and some horrible cheese stuff on my beef sandwich ( looked like 🤮) Chips dry and over cooked. Diet Coke warm and cream on milkshake warm ! Hotdog grey and old 🤢 But the staff were nice 😳

Very enjoyable few days stay. Central for bus to York Scarborough Staff helpful and friendly just wished the disabled rooms had a higher bed. Wet room was fantastic Oh and 3 had steak meal one had to send it back once as couldn't cut 2nd time still not good but couldn't wait for a 3rd . So she never enjoyed

The food its self was nice our problem was, we had an older waitress that was unwelcoming from the moment we entered for some reason she even walked off half way through our ordering food and just never came back to serve us again! we had to go to the till and ask if she was coming back as she hadn't taken 3 people's orders! but it made afew at our table notice the atmosphere and mention this womans attitude was unfriendly and inpatient... there was alot of whispering behind the tills and waitresses staring over but we never did figure out why ! The other problem was the toilets were very unclean and looked like they'd been in that state awhile. Shame really as we wouldn't recommend the place and certainly wouldnt ever go back. Ive also looked at the reviews and they all seem to be a positive review so it really must have been an off day for whatever reason.

Food was amazing. Great menu, nice see different options available sweet and savoury. Re atmosphere, just one thing with the toilets- floor was wet and nearly slipped. Everything also looked damp and doors don't shut properly, just something to add for improvement.

Went for breakfast and to start off to say they call this a diner it's not the traditional American style diner, but I'll give them props it does look American! The food was great and very filling for the price 👌 The servers were very attentive, though a little too quick to ask if we were ready, though not going to knock any points for that as some people probably checked the menu before coming. All in all, great food, great service, and at a good price to boot. 😋

Drove 45 minutes to the place only for them to say we can't order food to take away with it being so busy, you would of thought you would anticipate that as you know how popular you can be. Disappointed can't begin to describe it Reply: Regarding phoning up for availability: availability for take out? To be honest for me that's a new one, i would understand if it was availability to dine in but never heard of phoning up for availability for a take out option? I have worked in a kitchen before for many years I have cooked for over 80 people in the space of 3 to 4 hours but it still brings me to the point I made regarding atntipating how busy you can get on a day like mothers day, days like these is normally where restaurants or diners are popular because it's a special occasion. All I can say is please consider people even on a busy day that just want to get food and take it home. Can't fault the food at all but for me that particular day of service was a bit shocking

The staff we're lovely if I hadn't used the toilet before my food I would have been able to eat.ive seen better toilets in a park.they we're filthy, no taps working and floors and walls and toilet themselves. Every one that used the toilet, some laft others were worrying about eating. Terrible. 20yrs in the n.h.s.i felt sick.

We've been 2 years in a row now on our way up north and bloody love it. Steak and eggs with hash browns and bottomless coffee for breakfast. Bang on 😎 Also it has dog friendly area and they are very good with looking after dogs

Would not recommend this place, quite pricy for a burger so was expecting good things. The wife’s chicken burger was just a small chicken goujon that did not even fill up the bun, the chips and onion rings looked like they were about a week old and had been cooked numerous times, she hardly ate any of it. My burger was ok but nothing great, it just seemed like they went to aldi and got everything nothing was home made. The kids meals were ok. Disappointed really as was looking forward to a good meal, and at £60 was expensive for what it was, would be better going to Burger King as that would be 100% nicer and much cheaper.

We just happened to drive by this restaurant on a trip from Nottingham to Whitby and decided to stop for a quick lunch. We had low expectations but just needed some food. But wow! The staff were welcoming and friendly from the moment we stepped through the door, even welcoming our dog inside and bringing him a bowl of water. The menu offered so much choice. We ordered a Canadian wiener and a big pig burger. Service was quick and the food was delicious. The fries were top class. Honestly the food is the stuff of dreams. I really wish this place was close to Nottingham as I would love to try out the breakfast menu. A really fab diner. Well done to all the staff. My only complaint is a tiny one. The toilets were very smelly and damp, although seemed fairly clean.
