Howl in York

Wow, absolutely blown away by this hidden gem! Me and my Mam came for drinks here on Friday and loved it so much we came back Saturday for lunch! The wine is absolutely beautiful, the food is so fresh and the staff are just incredible. Definitely my new favourite spot in York, can’t wait to return!

Great place for cheese and charcuterie. Had the sharing platter with two meats and 2 cheeses which you choose yourself from the menu. Board was beautifully presented with crackers, bread, cornichons, peppers and olives. Also had the hummus which was delicious which was served with lightly toasted bread. Great service with a friendly smile. And washed down with a pint of Hells lager. Would highly recommend and me and my husband will be back soon 😄👍

Stumbled across this cosy little restaurant shortly after arriving in York. My wife and I have been craving a really good charcuterie board and were not disappointed. We selected 2 meats, Brighton Salami, Rebel aged Ham, along with 2 cheeses, Montgomery Cheddar, and the soft blue cheese of the day. These were accompanied by bread, olives, pickles, stuffed peppers, and 2 chutneys. We also added a seasonal hummus. Every mouthful of the food presented was immensely tasteful. Decent price with 2 glasses of prosecco and a large red wine, total bill £54. Would 100% revisted (almost did the following day).

A group of 6 of us visited, hadn't booked we just turned up but were delighted they had a table in the courtyard to accommodate us. The owners mother looked after us and was more than happy to make changes to the menu to suit our needs - I wasn't eating but got so envious when one of the sharing platters arrived, I wanted to dive it!!! Very good toilets, relaxed atmosphere, slight issue with the bill but quickly resolved Would definitely return and recommend

After reading great reviews thought we'd give HOWL a go. Disappointed they didn't have the wine I wanted. Staff member whom I belive was the owner showed little interest in our table and she was talking down to a member of her staff, which wasn't professional. Everything seemed to be too much trouble. Overpriced, mediocre and staff member indifferent. Won't be returning as York has so much more to offer.

What a wonderful chance find a little oasis of good wine and antipasti, some of the best cheese served beautifully as it should be. Great selection of wine and warm and friendly service. This will definitely be the 1st of many visits as a great place to visit and see our son at Uni X Highly recommend Howls X

Discovered this little gem over the weekend. The girls were very knowledgeable and the sharing board was delicious.Orange wine something I’d not heard of before but the sample I tried along with the other glasses/bottle were a taste sensation.Such a lovely vibe and atmosphere here definitely worth stumbling across.xxxx

Found this place by chance, lucky to get the last table. We had a sharing board and ham hock, not sure if on the menu now. Lovely atmosphere, staff very friendly and helpful.

We chose Howl after reading some excellent reviews on here and then came across it by chance in York on a Friday night and how glad I am that we did. Myself and my wife had the Houmous and Sourdough, Sweet Potato salad, Kale & Feta Parcel, home made sausage roll, Brie & Cheddar and everything was a delight to taste. The dressing on the salad was amazing and after joking with the extremely friendly waitress that I would love the recipe she returned 10 minutes later with a list of ingredients from the chef. Not only was the food absolute superb but the service was outstanding, the two lovely ladies working Sasha and Adrianna are a huge credit to the company and made our visit all the more enjoyable. I would not hesitate in recommending eating or drinking here and will certainly return on our next visit to York.

We found this place by accident. It turned out to chilled,comfortable, great vibes., and food and great wine. BTW - that’s the definition of serendipity. Highly recommended

Amazing environment and amazing service from Sasha and Mia both lovely girls and would come back again any time food was lovely and the wine was gorgeous they were both very attentive and helpful whenever we asked for anything the were both lovely to have a chat with and we will be back monthly 😂

Utterly delightful. Stopped for lunch here. Excellent coffee and great Cumberland sausage. Friendly, helpful and attentive staff, but not overbearing at all. A great place to chillout before going back into York. Clean toilets and dog friendly as well. What's not to like 😊

What a gorgeous little place. We visited at lunchtime on my birthday and were not disappointed! The staff were friendly and knowledgeable, the wine list was great, the food was excellent (I can recommend the sharing board, one of the best I’ve ever had) and the atmosphere was relaxed. An absolute gem, we will be back! Bonus points for being dog friendly - even though we didn’t have our dog with us, there was one with its owners at the bar during our visit, and it was made very welcome.

Honestly one of the nicest places to go in york with incredible food and drink. As someone not overly familiar with wine, it has an amazing host of staff who are incredibly knowledgeable in the area. Would highly recommend it!

Despite living in York had not heard of Howl - came across it looking for somewhere for a drink and food. Was perfect. Very relaxed; good friendly service and fantastic wine selection. Grape varieties and wines we had not heard of or tried (and we like wine) - and they were delicious. Cheese and ham to go alongside. Good date night.

Lovely early evening of small plates, cheese, super-interesting wine (with expert, friendly service), great wifi and environment to work too. And of course to relax. Lovely stylish indie vibes and one to return to!

The candles in the window drew us in and so glad we did!! Not only an amazing wine selection but such a friendly atmosphere!! If you’re looking for a nice chillax with a great glass of wine this is the place to come!!

Howl is a beautiful place. It's filled with wonderful wine, food and staff. Howl is a wine bar for everyone and matches your mood. You can go for a casual one after work or for a romantic date night. It's also one of the few places in York I feel comfortable going by myself. If you're visiting York then you need to visit Howl.

This place is something special. We visit often for a few glasses of wine and some food and never fail to have a good time. The staff team are lovely and knowledgeable, going out of their way to endure their guests have a great time. There is a fine selection of very drinkable wines, reasonably priced, and small plates of food which are excellently prepared and delicious. They also do craft beer, tea, coffee and soft drinks. Can't recommend Howl highly enough.

Every so often you stumble on a place that has not just good wine, great food but personality and ambience that rivals the best places in london. This is an absolute gem that I'd encourage everyone to support as I'd like to visit next time we come to York. Thank you Hannah and your mum!

we are going to recommend they change the name of their Brownies to OMG Brownies, because oh my god , they are good. Coffee and cake, absolutely delicious, nice friendly staff too.

Called in at the Blue Boar whilst in York for a meal and drink and we were very happy with everything. We also had entertainment which was very pleasant. Would recommend a visit when you are next in town. Well worth it!

Found this little gem of a restaurant almost by accident whilst walking past. Professional, friendly and welcoming service loads of small plate specials seasonal local and home-made, tasty. Really really nice atmosphere in this independent charcuterie. Well worth a visit.
