Howard's Fish and Grill in Castle Point

Our Camera club ordered fish and chips for a Xmas social . It was delivered on time and piping hot. The club members commented on the good quality and generous portions . Thanks for a great service .

What a great fish and chip shop. My family and I, have now had 2 takeaways from Howard's over the last 3 weeks sampling the ribs, roasted chicken, cod, cod bites, savaloy, meat pies and chips. All were very good. A special mention for the chips as I think they are the best chip shop chips I have ever tasted. Both times I have visited on a Saturday, early evening, the queues have been quite long, but I presume this is because they are providing excellent quality and quantity. I for one do not mind a short wait for a 1st class takeaway.

The best ever.....this is how it's done. Proper chippy. Wrapped in paper with enough to wipe yer paws when your done. Beautiful cod and chips just right........🥰♥️👍

Howard’s are simply the best fish and chips in the area by far. Even though there are two others on the same road, it’s Howard’s that always has the queues and it’s easy to see why. Their chips, especially, are outstanding - cooked in an oil that leaves the chips slightly crispy and clean rather than greasy and oily. The taste is phenomenal. Their fish is similarly generously sized and tastes amazing. I tried the grilled chicken on this occasion and it really was half a chicken, cooked beautifully. Howard’s isn’t the cheapest (a medium cod will cost you £9) but it’s a rare treat and worth waiting for.

First time of using this place as our closer chip shop closed and didn’t fancy next one along so came here and are we glad we did. I always have had scampi for years and this is definitely the best yet and big portion too. The chips were the best cooked in a very clean oil and lots crispy bits amongst the wonderful chips and now we will continue to use this place as our favorite without a doubt. Not the cheapest but to be honest I think all fast foods have gone up. We had a very large cod, scampi, large chips, curry sauce and mushy peas and cost £24 and for the quality we would go here always

Ordered a takeaway, really looking forward to it. When it came chips really oily. Cod was really oily and really over cooked. I right let down, paid £29 for the oily over cooked experience

Come here fairly often and tge cod and chips are wi detail. My daughter always has a plain cheeseburger but this time someone added ketchup and she couldn't eat it so that was disappointing and why I haven't given 5 stars. I didn't bother to call but maybe I should have. Previously tried the onion and just soggy.

Was really looking forward to dinner tonight but unfortunately it was awful, the chips were very oily and the sausage in batter was very soggy! Such a shame but lovely staff.

I ordered fish and chips for delivery with my family and I can honestly say I think it’s some of the best fish and chips I’ve ever had! It was delivered quickly, everything was piping hot and tasted incredible! Can’t wait to be back!!

Part of our order was omitted on collection however Howard’s immediately delivered to our home address along with an apology and a voucher for our next visit. That is old school customer service that goes a long way in our eyes and they will remain our go to fish and chip shop. Well done Howard’s!

This has always been our local favourite however on the last 2 occasions the take away has not been good. The first time put it down to a one off, did pre order so perhaps just busy! This week , on a Wednesday and just for 2 of us we fancied a favourite. So very disappointing! Fish overcooked and tasteless, fish dry and skin was like rubber!? We used ti clear our plates, batter light and crispy but not now? Dont know what has gone wrong but so not good...chips not as good either, undercooked if anything. Sorry, wont be coming back for more.

Have had a number of takeaways and been very satisfied but recently ordered skate and it was very small with hardly any fish and thick, hard batter. Not happy at all.

Best fish and chip shop we’ve ever had. The staff work so hard and adaptable in the current climate. We generally have the chicken strips and chips and they are just divine. There are times were the wait for the food has been longer than desired but it is always worth it. Keep up the good work!

we love Howard's. The variety of their menu is amazing. The fish is always cooked perfectly and I love their batter, its not greasy or oily just fantastic. Their chips are amazing and crunchy and I love their curry sauce!!. Made even better now that they do a delivery service.

I have never used Howard’s before although my wife has when at work. We gave it a go yesterday despite it being a reasonable drive away. It was well worth it. I had the half chicken and chips with piri piri sauce on the chicken and it was delicious. My wife had chicken burger and chips. The portions were generous and the food cooked to perfection. I am salivating as I type, thinking about the piri piri chicken it was that good. So although we live a little distance away and pass a few chippies , Howard’s will be getting some more business from us...

They say credit where it is due and it certainly is. This is by a long way the best fish and chips I've ever had whatever you're doing keep it up thanks and see you again soon.

Despite lockdown, Howard’s are still providing a fantastic service, ordered and within 20 minutes our food arrived and was hot and delicious best fish we have ever tasted Highly recommended

So I can’t comment on the food because I didn’t get a chance to find out. Was told at the door phone orders only orders.....which is fine considering the current climate totally respect that. As I walked away to my car a guy asked the same question. At first he was given the same answer but then because he protested someone from behind the counter allowed him to order at the door. So I went back and was refused....how can you do it for one person but discriminate against another that has just asked the same thing! Won’t be attempting to spend my money there again. Inconsistent and rude.

Wow best fish and chips ever. Had this delivered as in isolation, needed a takeaway for a change to cooking and this did not disappoint, always good food here but this arrived fresh, hot and tasted delicious. Thank you for doing deliver great service great food.

Was in desperate need of fish chips after 5 weeks of lockdown so called up to place an order for collection. Given a time of 6.55 arrived at 6.45 and it was just ready. Have to say while it was not cheap it was one of the best takeaways we have had.

Best Fish & Chips in Benfleet, they have increased their prices after the fire they had but you get what you pay for. Would recomend that you try them.

Have just eaten fish and chips from the newly reopened shop. The small cod was a very generous portion as was the medium haddock . The chips were crispy , light and not at all greasy as was the batter on the fish. No hesitation in recommending this and wish them deserved success which is already evident in long queues out of the door.

We always use Howard’s fish and chip shop as the service is great,the cod is always beautiful and a medium is like a large elsewhere, the chips are always great and what we call traditional again good portion size, reasonably priced for great food, well worth the ques when you arrive highly recommend

The best takeaway fish and chips in Benfleet. Fish cooked nicely and lovely tasting chips. As others have said this can get pretty busy especially on a Friday evening

Have tried this a number of times now and is definitely the best fish and chip shop in the area. The fish is beautifully cooked and not greasy at all. Also is boneless. Chips are very generous, so only order a large portion if you are super hungry as they will easy feed 2 people. Curry sauce and mushy peas are also both worth trying.

You have to wait while they cook your food to order but it is well worth it. No more soggy batter on fish that has spent 30 minutes being kept warm after cooking. Knocks the socks off every other chippy in the area.

Massive portions and freshly prepared... I sometimes go for the children’s meal which is a nice size. Good menu with plenty to choose from .. always served with a smile 😊

Visited the restaurant for my Friday night meal and enjoyed the food. All freshly cooked & served nice & hot. Staff were friendly with food ready in a reasonable amount of time. Prices are competitive. Would recommend.

On our visit we had to wait quite a while (a good 20 plus minutes) with all the other people who had ordered before us. This might be an injustice but as the chips got cooler they took on a look & taste of having been frozen first??????? Cooked fish was spot and qyite nice.

We go there at least once a week excellent food nearly always cooked to order, service is always friendly food is always well wrapped so always hot when we get home 10 minutes later.

Whenever I go to my daughter’s we always have a fish and chip meal from Howard’s. It’s the best I’ve ever tasted plus their menu is second to none! I also love their southern fried chicken burger.. I rate Howard’s very highly.

Always receive a happy friendly welcome every time I visit. This place cooks some of the best ribs and chickens I’ve ever tasted from a chip chop.

Regularly eat here. The double bacon & cheeseburger beats all the others hands down. Everything is cooked fresh, which can mean a bit of a wait at peak times, but beleive me, it's worth the wait. Traditional fish and chips are excellent too and the portions are mighty fine. Never had a meal from here that has been anything short of great.

Not a regular fish and chips lover. Visit for take away cod and chips and 2 plain cod, all 3 well done, nothing out of the ordinary. But reception and service is excellent. May visit again.

We have a few 'chippys' near us but non are a patch on Howards. Spotlessly clean & the fish & chips are always so fresh. Reasonably priced too. Would definitely recommend.

Evening meals. After wife as been at work on a Saturday we get our dinner from here. The food is cooked to order and i well worth the wait. You have a large choice of what to eat from Fish, Pies, Burgers,Ribs or Chicken

They used to charge 50p for transactions under £5 which was taking the mick anyway but now they've decided they don't want any customers who aren't spending over a tenner.

This is the best chip shop in Essex one of the best burgers I have ever had and the rips where on top form and it’s not over priced and always cooked fresh keep up the good work

Chips were greasy and soggy. Southern Fried Chicken was not very nice either. We were expecting more and will not be going back.

Was disappointed ordered pie & chips twice on a Friday evening about 4pm. Got home 2 mins away & pies were stone cold! So I phoned as they weren’t even luke warm & the man took a minute then said oh we have forgotten to put warmer on. No apology no bring it back & we will exchange! Ok we could microwave but should they have offered?

I came all the way from USA to visit some relatives and they sent me to Howards for what they said would be the best fish and chips I could ever taste.

Smart looking little chippie that is very modern compared to the usual fat sizzling potato shop. Chips are decent and the Cod was an OK standard. Quite pricey but overall good food. The queue is normally out the door with a load of teenagers scurrying around behind the counter trying their best. Worth a try if you're passing through!

First time here last week. Oh yum. Cod and chips. The best i have had in such a long time. Went back again this week and was not disappointed.

Shop very busy on Saturday evening had to wait a while for my order of cod and chips ,cod was so fresh and lightly battered the chips nice and crispy .be nice if they did a side salad .

Had to wait a very long time for my food. The orders did not come out in any order. It was very random who gets there order first. Unfortunately the wait was not really worth it. The chips were good but the fish was over cooked and under seasoned.

I ordered battered cod and chips for my tea and he came out with haddock. HADDOCK! Of all the things I would've had haddock was the only thing I wouldnt have had. I AM FUMING :((((((

We were recommended this chip shop from a family member and we were very impressed. The shop is large and clean, with helpful staff. We ordered fish and chips and the fish was cooked fresh. Both the chips and fish were very tasty and definitely worth the money. They were also very generous portions, which was another bonus. We will be using this chip shop again.

My Family has had many meals from this establishment and have never been disappointed with the food and it's priced very reasonably.

This fish and chip shop is definetley the best around in Benfleet, food is usually amazing. Unfortunatley today it was not. We ordered the rock and chips, the rock was overcooked, boney and very small. I had a saveloy and chips which was perfect as usual. The customer service is usually good

Needs to be more consistent with the fish. Some days it can be covered in soggy batter. BBQ ribs are delicious

We had a take out fish and chips from here. It was quite busy, so we had a bit of a wait, but not unreasonable. The food was good, nice chips, crunchy on the outside and fluffy on the inside, just as they should be. The fish was tasty, if a little on the greasy side, and the portion size was big...next time I'd get 2 portions of chips between 3, instead of one each. It's very clean and hygienic, and the staff were friendly and helpful.

When Howard's first opened the good was of a much better quality. The chips taste like the fat needs changing and are also soaked in fat. This may be because they part-cook the chips and leave them in bowls on top of the fryer and then reheat and finish cooking them when needed. I won't go there again now- I've given plenty of chances. Come on Howard's bring back the same standard as when you first opened!!

Popped in to grab a bag of chips because we randomly just fancied some 'proper chip shop chips' as you do sometimes, but unfortunately upon getting them home and out the packet found them to be the kind of thinner cut, greasy and starchy chips you would be served in an Indian restaurant. Found this to be pretty disappointing as its been decorated to a nice modern standard, but even though its modern, would be nice to get traditional chip shop chips.

We ate here the day it opened, and it was good! Months later the standard of food has never dropped. Shows how popular it is now as local roads are often packed with cars, even though you can park in the Spar car park for 30 mins. Highly recommended.

You must try the food here. It's all cooked fresh, fish, ribs, chicken, burgers best I've ever tasted! The place is spotlessly clean too. I wouldn't go anywhere else now.
