Lovely chicken curry,hot food tasty good priced always ask for mushrooms tho in the curry as they only add onions to it

The restaurant does quite a few not so common dishes. Love to try different dishes and have never been disappointed. Generous portions, well cooked and tasty ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

Haven’t been for 6 years until tonight. Very disappointed, rice was stodgey and curry v bland, batter on king prawns was soggy, ended up throwing most away, won’t be returning

I have never tasted such awful Chinese food the yuk sung was sweet the beef in black been spicy that you couldn’t taste it and the curry was so spicy we couldn’t eat it. The prawns in the chow mein were slimy and prawn crackers had a weird taste. The only thing that tasted okay were the chips! Plus we waited almost 2 hours for our delivery when told at booking between 30 & 60 mins. I asked for a refund as we couldn’t eat it and the manager refused to give a full refund only half but I explained that I rang them to prevent a bad review but they were not interested. ! Their excuse for poor food was they were busy!!!! I have never complained before but please don’t order from here if you want decent Chinese food!

Must have changed hands in the last year. Food has improved. Service is efficient. Many choose this as the last destination after a few drinks in the high street. Favourite: best takeaway prawn toast I have ever had.

We've used House of Mr Li for decades, it's always been our first choice for this category of food. Maybe they had a bad spell several years ago because the recent meals we've had (3 or 4 in the past couple of months) have been as tasty as ever (recommend the salt & chilli king prawns or spare ribs!) They always send complimentary prawn crackers and fortune cookies too which is a nice touch (we always order lots of food.) No problems with missing food either. Would recommend.

tried this Place for the first time a few days ago which i was very wary to do so and it seems that I was right to be wary as I only had chips and curry sauce and enjoyed it at first but not long after I began to feel sick which gradually got worse to the point by the end of the night I was throwing it all back up for the rest of the night I felt awful so unfortunately will never eat from there again. big disappointment

Best Chinese takeaway in the UK

An emotional happening as you experience an element of luxury as soon as you enter. The food is indefinable and staff are genial. Its hard to describe the wonderful feeling you feel when you order from House of Mr Li and I tear up every time I enter. I am confident in saying that House of Mr Li is a perfect example of what authentic Chinese food should be, and that if you want an exceptional take out meal infused by the love of excellent cooks then House of Mr Li is the solution.

Some of food was nice but the rest was very greasy and the spare rib was so hard and dry

The food here is really delicious and it comes out very quick. 100% will recommend again. The cashier were very kind.

I first used this takeaway many years ago before Google had reviews. Today I ordered a large spring roll for £1.90. I didn't expect it to be better than Peking Garden near Sutton Coldfield college. Has it turned out, the snack was very good for the money. Not quite as good as the other Chinese takeaway mentioned above, but very good for the money. Will try the salt and pepper ribs next time and edit this review.

First and last time I will use this take away. Food was awful tasteless and poor ingredients, meats chewy. Crispy beef horrid. Only half decent part was salt and chilli ribs. Never again.

We use House of Mr Li about 3 times a month. Absolutely fantastic food. Always hot, fresh and plenty of it! Have tried a few other places over the years but nowhere had beaten them. 100% would recommend.

We used to use this takeaway ALOT but there was a change in chef/owner a few years ago and didn’t go back. Wow. House or Mr Li is back!!! Lovely food, fast delivery, large portions.

We have used this take-away in its various guises since 1986! The standard of service and quality of food is invariably delicious. Bewars that the szechuan beef can be a little too spicy (jalapenos) so if desired ask them to tone it down a little

I have been coming here for years. It was always my favourite Chinese take away. After it changed hands it went straight downhill. I understand that different chefs cook meals differently. I was fine with that. The new chef’s take on the dishes was obviously not to my liking. I gave the place a 6 month break. I ventured in again three week ago and was pleasantly surprised, the flavour was back and the curry sauce was once again to die for. But tonight, my meal was incorrect. Missing food, and one of the blandest meals I have ever eaten. It went straight in the bin. I think that it’s time the owners stopped trying to cook food to match the old menu, but reinvent a menu of their own that they can cook well. Obviously the chefs can cook, but the old Mr Li regulars are long gone and therefore will not miss their old regular dishes. It’s time to create a new line of meals, restart and move forward.

Really annoyed by the rudeness of staff and poor quality of food - I had heard it was good - but it now has new owners - we wasted money and spoilt an evening complaining about it!

This was once a great take away but new owners have changed the quality completely- the food was so salty and extremely greasy - orders were wrong and we were blamed - very poor service and complete waste of money - avoid - it’s not what it was sadly!!

We used to love House of Mr Li - regular user - but recently changed hands and now awful - woman on desk is rude - food is full of salt and very greasy - chicken tasted old - and vegetarian dish was full of pork pieces!! - bad bad bad - what a shame it’s changed!! This takeaway used to be top class - not any more. Pork yuk sung was nice but not stand out, a little greasy. But the portion of chips were re-heated lumps of fat-filled potato. Awful. Inedible. They went in the bin. Unfortunately too far from home to go back and get fresh chips. Surprised at this establishment for serving such poor food.

Had given up on actually finding a local takeaway where the food is really good but have been to House of Mr Li now three times and each time the food has been excellent. Great menu, great quality and flavour and piping hot, freshly cooked food.

We normally use another Chinese takeaway but thought we would try this for a change. It was a mistake. When I called to place the order, the lady stopped taking my order to serve a customer who had come in to pick up their meal. I was on hold for around 8 mins while the assistant tried to locate the meal (please bear in mind this was a mid week order not a busy weekend). Once that customer had been served she resumed to take my order, I was a little worried by now but had waited so long decided to stick with it.

As takeaways go the House of Mr Li is pretty good. Clean, friendly service with a good choice of dishes. Standards did drop for a while but after eating from here twice in the past 2 weeks I can vouch for the quality of the food. Keep it up

We've been coming here for our chinese takeaway for some years now but have never bothered to write a review. Having tried yet another alternative yesterday, recommended by a work colleague and finding it very average, it made me realise, yet again, how good Mr. Li's is. Consistently excellent, I can honestly say that we've never had a bad meal from here. Our favourites are the spicy (salt, chilli and pepper) spare ribs, the mixed meat satay on skewers and the curries. The ribs are probably the best we've ever eaten. Large, tender, low amounts of fat and very, very tasty. I haven't come across the satay on skewers anywhere else. Different to the normal satay (which they also do, by the way) and even more delicious. The chips are as chinese chips should be - crispy on the outside and soft inside, not the soggy, greasy things that are found at some restaurants.

Just had the worst Chinese food I think I’ve ever had. Uncle Benns would have been better. We’ve been using this takeaway for over 20 years bought unfortunately won’t be going again

Used to live in Birmingham years ago and always used House if Mr Li’s as our regular Chinese. Every time we come down to visit family we always make a point of getting a takeaway from here. So much choice and well priced. Good service and very good food

Mr Li has been on Boldmere Road for a very long time and now has huge competition from every other kind of intersting and totally boring types of cooked food outlet. Mr Li cooks quickly, has a good range on the menu and is reasonably priced.

Picked up a meal again last night and was very disappointed. Been using this takeaway for 10 years + and the last 2 meals have been tasteless. Yuksung was horrible with not even a tea spoon of the little crispy bits that you mix in. I think they forgot to put any chicken in the chicken chow mien and the sweet and sour chicken Cantonese style was dry. Will not be going back.

Sorry all. Popped in for my usual Beef curry, extra hot with fried rice this evening. Noticed the change of staff, and had heard rumours of new owners but placed my order anyway. This is the only place I ever have a beef curry from...

Food here is really good, and all freshly cooked. The set banquets are reasonable, and the courses well selected. Particular praise for the Yuk Sung starter.

I haven't had a take away for few months because of disappointments in the local area.The order was taken by a very polite lady and was ready in 15 mins.The spare ribs were fabulous complimented by a lovely sauce, followed by Fried chicken szechuan style which was one of the best I've had.None delivery is not an issue for me especially as they have opened a car park around the back, access from the side road.

Had a meal yesterday, had to say it's the best Chinese takeaway in local area. Food tasted delicious and services were wonderful, would recommend to all my friends and family.

After feeling hungry we decided to order a takeaway. Lady on the phone was helpful collected the order. However the food was bland and tough and very greasy. In the end thrown in the bin. Won't be going here again!

Very busy take away. However the staff particularly the lady who takes the orders is very quick and welcoming. Yuk sung and crispy beef are excellent with generous portions at a good price. Will make this visit a regular Friday night treat

I can't believe I've only just seen House of Mr Li on Tripadvisor, my partner and I absolutely love this place! We can't go anywhere else now and we have recruited friends and family members who now love this place too! We have tried most of the dishes on the menu, always tasty and always pipping hot! The Aromatic Duck is definitely one of our favourites enough for 4 people or two very hungry! The Young Chow Rice is also delicious, there is just too much to write here!You must try the ribs they are meaty, juicy and tender the meat just falls off the bone! We always order the Spicy Ribs. You must give this place a try, they don't deliver but they do have a car park at the back of the shop which I always use, never any issues there.

Although the reviews are generally positive I'm afraid my experience has not been so good. Average food, average portions but a lack of competition in the area means that we keep going back. They used to deliver but have stopped which is terrible as there is never anywhere to park along Boldmere Road. We'd use it more often if they started delivering again.

I really like the food from here, they are very consistent and have a large selection of dishes. I do choose certain dishes so i can only comment on them. Crispy Shredded Chicken, Pork Yuk Sung, Salt & Pepper Ribs and Aromatic Duck are my favourite main dishes. Unfortunately they have stopped delivering but assured me that they will be starting again soon.

We had a takeaway from here over the weekend, much against my better judgement considering how poor it was the last time but, they have received some good reviews so worth a try....Basically very poor quality, king prawns were hard, a curry dish had almost no flavour it tasted as if the paste they used had gone off and generally other dishes were very poor quality and lacking in taste, everything seemed to be done on the cheap.Ok,as other reviewers have commented `large portions` so if this is what floats your boat with so called Chinese food you won`t be dissappointed!!

A lovely little restaurant, which gives large portions cooked whilst you wait. I recommend it for a quick bite on a Friday night.
