I had not been here for a few years, slightly changed inside, but the food was every bit as good as I remembered. Amazing value. This restaurant cannot be beaten for value, so close to the main shopping area in Birmingham.

We went there for a family meal out but it turns out to be a worst meal I have ever had. A customer was sneezing and coughing over the food, food was too old, rice was like stone hard, feels like the food was sitting there for couple of days. The dinner table was dirty and sticky. Take it this way if anyone ask me to go there for free a meal I wouldn't go!!

I really like the Big Wok! You can eat as much as you like and there are plenty of dishes to choose from. You can have a clean plate and cutlery each time - not like some buffets I have visited. You can eat the dishes in any order you like - nobody monitoring whether you have eaten starters first etc! Not a huge choice of desserts and those there are not that great but then who would come here just for the desserts? Staff are always pleasant and polite. Would definitely recommend.

Paying £11.99 for their 'Grand Buffet' after 5pm, I totally regret making the decision to come to this restaurant. The food was cold and didn't have much flavour to it, so it certainly didn't justify its price tag. My friend who I was with said that the chicken she'd taken didn't look cooked. The waiters appeared to be watching us eat too, which was quite intimidating. I would go as far to say that this was the worst Chinese buffet I've ever been to! The desserts available were good, but it didn't make up for the fact that the food was really poor. I certainly won't be coming here again when I'm next in Birmingham.

Chinese buffets are usually about eating lots of mediocre food while people think it's a bargain. This place actually differs as the food is quite nice to eat considering the low price. Cant knock the place to be honest, came up from Essex and asked a few randoms for a decent place to eat and they said here. Looked alright on the outside and seemed pretty busy so went on in. Got a beer tower (8 pints) for £20 quid. Food was average cheapo Chinese buffet quality and didn't think much of it.....until the next morning. At 0225 GMT i was awoken by a terrible rumbling in my stomach i rushed to the toilet in my hotel room...not only did i projectile vomit into the toilet i defecated liquid brown all over the floor as i had lost complete control of my bodily functions. This repeated up until 12 o'clock when the hotel i was staying requested i checked out. I then had to repeat this disgusting ordeal in multiple services stations, back alleys and laybys. Over the course of the day i vomited in excess of 20 times. I couldn't even keep water down. The illness resulted in me having to throw multiple pairs of boxers and a couple of bedsheets. So overall no i would not recommend this restaurant.

We used to come here very regularly when we were poorer and more on a budget. Its a great Chinese buffer place in the middle of China Town. Very cheap at lunchtime. Slightly more expensive in the evening, but you get more variety then.Often queues coming out of the door to give an indication of how popular it is. We often have to wait to get a table.I would say that the best time to come would be on a busy day like a Saturday, but at a non-peak eating time like 3pm. The reason for this, and its the same with many buffet places is that you want the food to be fresh and there to be a lot of variety without risk of it running out because they've had a rush of customers or they are about to close. You also don't want to go last thing at night when they've stopped prepping new stuff to put out and customers are dying down so the food looks less appetising. But if you go at the right time, its very good with fresh hot food at a great price. Food is standard Chinese takeaway style with a few extras from other cultures. Very surprised sometimes to see dishes that you would normally see from a traditional Chinese restaurant (as opposed to takeaway) although those dishes are not regular. The variety is good. The price is good. It's not fine dining, but very good value. Well worth going occasionally!

We arrived as a fairly un-rowdy stag do and were welcomed all the same. They took payment initially to help speed up the process and also took drinks orders at the same time. We were sat in our own section upstairs which made sense for all the families around downstairs. They offer 8 pint drinks fountains for your table which is a great idea for larger groups due to having to go back and forth to the bar normally so this was a nice touch. The food was very nice, a wide variety of dishes including some middle eastern dishes which was a welcome surprise. the restaurant was very clean and plenty of staff clearing tables too.

We visited this place last week when staying in Birmingham. We entered at 9.45 and on asking we were told that they were open till 11 oclock. However after we sat down with a drink and went to the buffet the staff started to take food away . I then asked if he meant 10 oclock closing he said no it was 11. It was just 10 oclock and the food was dissapearing. It was most uncomfortable .Felt like the staff were glarring at us to leave. We decided we would just have a sweet and leave as the food we did get was cold and very poor. ALL the sweets and ice cream had been taken away. When I approuched the MANAGER ???? he didnt seem to understand and said no hurry open till 11????????? YES I SAY BUT THERE IS NO FOOD. He didnt offer anything so we paid ( full price ) with almost nothing eaten and left being in there for about 20 mins in all. Please never risk a similar experience. For an "all you can eat", £13 may seem like a steal at first. It certainly did for us, as my partner and I wandered through the lacklustre Birmingham Chinatown in search of a quick pre-gig meal. The waiter drew us in as we were debating the deal, and once inside it was slightly disappointing to be confronted with the scene that to me resembles a supermarket with hot food and tables, stretching on over the rather large canteen-style hall. We placed a drinks order, and aside from that we were left free to roam the aisles, picking out the bits of buffet that caught our fancy. Shockingly for a buffet, the range was disappointing. The starters consisted of spring rolls and prawn toast, and little else worth noting. The main courses stretch from a few well-known favourites, to a few dishes of Cantonese street food, carefully hidden at the back for some reason, so that I only found them at the end. They were possibly the best bits though. After the starters, I decided to try some of the sushi dishes. Sushi is a very loose term for it. What the sushi consisted of was crabsticks wrapped in a makki parcel, or Americanised "rolls". This level of authenticity is mirrored in their main cours options of "Indian-style curry"; as someone with a considerable level of experience working around Indian food, I cringe. The crispy duck pancakes are pretty good though, and they also serve a crispy pork variant, which I have never seen previously. Several sauces are also available alongside the traditional hoisin, including a sweet chili sauce which actually works surprisingly well. They also have a Korean barbecue-style counter, which was cool in the whole "choose some food and we cook it in front of you" aspect, but once the cooking is done and one ends up with a simple plate of oily meat and badly-done chilis, the novelty quickly wears off. As for dessert, the watery jelly in the fridge and the Pizza Hut-sponsored ice cream factory machine says it all. Whilst it is good value in terms of quantity, the same cannot be said for quality. This being said, the buffet price is probably good value for money if you like this kind of thing, or eat strategically. There were obviously no surprises when it came to paying because of this, though I would have preferred to eat somewhere else actually, even if we would have got less food for the same price - the food would have been better, and we wouldn't have felt so obligated to cram as much bad-to-averagely made food into our stomachs to warrant the experience.

Drinks on the expensive side 2 soft drinks for 4.40 is high, if I was to return I would go at lunch time as I think the 12.99 each is dear for what it is.Might be coincidence but had a very bad gut later that evening.

For the money I can not fault the selection available or the quality of the food. I'd recommend the big wok for its value, friendliness of staff. For lunch it's great you don't need to be dressed up smart casual is the perfect dress code. If your looking for an upper class restaurant this really isn't the place for you. If it's your first visit be prepared to have to queue to get a tabel as it is very popular. We went at about 3pm so we only waited for about 10 mins, but if it's busy you can be waiting a while.Over all we had a great afternoon walking around birmingham city centre which we followed up with lunch.

Firstly don't believe the Google directions from the markets in Edgbaston St to the Big Wok, the send you on a ten minute trek rather than three minutes walk.Situated down a rather dingy dead end the surroundings don't inspire much confidence, however once inside it is a different matter.Friendly, attentive staff, the place was well over half full at about 1.30pm yesterday.Good choice of food, hot and cold, and all in shallow trays which means they get refilled regularly. Not over spicy, the black bean and satay sauces didn't have much of a bite but were pleasantly tasty as were all the dishes I tried. Both of us were satisfied with the food, and reasonable value at £6.99 a head for the lunchtime buffet. The tables and chairs were a bit downmarket, and the cushioning on my seat had traces of dropped food from previous occupants. Other than that, ok, and we will go again on our infrequent visits to Brum.

Not as hot as I would have liked it, but it didn't deter from the overall taste of the food. The variety and choice of food on display was excellent. Plenty of choice for meat eaters and vegetarians. From the starters, soups, mains, vegetables and sweets, excellent all round. Outstanding value for money. Would definitely come here again. The toilets clean and presentable. Well done everyone.

Decided to give Big Wok a chance on a Monday evening purely because it was £4 cheaper than other Chinese buffets in the area (£12.99 per person) and we were extremely disappointed, food tasted flavourless and the place is in serious need of an update. The staff were attentive and lovely, I can't fault their service, just unfortunately the food was extremely disappointing. Their one saving grace for me was their duck pancakes, I'm 'one of those people' who prefers the soft meaty bits to the crispy bits though so was happy not to see any crispy bits, plum sauce needed improving though, it was not good. Main problem was that both me and my partner had major tummy troubles throughout the night, unsure whether Big Wok is to blame for this, however this is the only place we both ate at during the course of the day. Won't be returning and next time will pay that little bit extra for another buffet.

Went against my better judgement because of the volume of good reviews. Place smells, looks dirt and food is horrible. Avoid!!!

This place is ok for people who don't care what they eat, plenty of choice but poor surroundings in the restaurant. Everyone is hurded in like Sardines and the tables and chairs are something you'd expect to see in a bad works canteen.

went in on friday lunch time with my wife and the food was piping hot as you would expect. the chips were perfect and very hot indeed. we were greeted in the same manner as normal. can not complain about this place. i have been coming here since it first opened back in 2002. i know for a short while it did go down hill just a bit. but its back to its glory self. this restaurant to me is original. and best far cheaper then ming moon and not as pricey as ming moon. so come one folks please come to big wok. great food great service and great value. drinks are not over priced eather. will return here again and again and again

Food was lovely, fresh and hot. Good value for the money. I had a 10% voucher off the web site and when I went to pay, I gave them the voucher and then the table number. Obviously the bill had already been done and presumably the cashier didn't know how to deduct 10% off and waved it back at me to show next time first. This doesn't say this on the voucher and I think, didn't want to change the bill. Disappointed.

Family and friends were raving about this place - £12.99 for as much as you want to eat. Whilst the service was good much of the food was cold despite steam leaking everywhere, alternatively some of the serving spoons were so hot you couln't hold them. The plates are cold to start with and that doesn't help - my wife complained - a chef came out stired a couple of dishes and went away again - he hadn't increased the temperature of the food.Lots of choice which is a bonus, price includes starters, main meals and deserts as many times as you like but coffee is extra, as are all drinks, but it comes in a mug. Good value for money but I would watch for the cold food which is meant to be hot and move onto another dish

Somewhere in the region of 50 different dishes at lunchtime including some items I have not seen before, the Mongolian lamb is fantastic. The décor is nothing to write home about, but then I have also had not great experiences in places that have been wonderfully decorated!

I was in Brum for the day, and if alone, always find my way to Chinatown. After looking at endless menus I spotted this place up a small side street, (Wrottesley St), all you can eat etc. There were enough people in there so the lack of price advertised did not put me off.Something like fifty dishes were available, and that is no exaggeration, so the idea is go slow. Well I managed four different plates, with four or five samples per plate. The food is fine, tho' not the best Chinatown has to offer in truth, but wow, can you pig out. They have a good sweet selection as well, even down to a self serve soft ice cream machine, which I used to plop a swirl onto my chocolate gateaux. After finishing off my pint of "probably the best lager in the World" I waddled up to the till to pay. I was handed a bill for £10.49. Feeling a wee bit guilty i said I had a beer too. The lady said it was on the bill! All you can eat for £7.49. Brilliant. My advice. Miss breakfast.

Sorry to say that the Big Wok has become too much like a big noisy canteen, not a pleasant place to eat.

Food here is excellent and the service prompt and polite. However, it is like eating at a Transport Cafe - formica tables and lots of noise.Really good value for money

Great selection of food, tasty and quick service. Reasonably priced at only £12.99. The drinks could do wit being cheaper. It has a canteen feeling to it, this needs working on.

We had not been for a few years but found Big Wok to be the same great value as always yesterday. A good variety of foods which suited the tastes of all 4 of us, we ate far too much for lunch. A self service cafeteria you have to remember to get your own cutlery but it is not a problem. Service is polite, swift and unintrusive getting drinks and clearing away used plates. The website boasts a number of special offers - I downloaded the vouchers onto my phone and proffered one when we paid - 10% off for each person that bought a main course and a drink. Unfortunately they only accept paper vouchers which you have printed off. The same info written on a napkin with the voucher on my phone was not acceptable. The website says download your voucher and bring with you. Neither the website nor voucher say anything about have a paper version - could be clearer.

Very quick service and great if you want a hearty meal and fast.Don't expect a huge range or premium ingredients/items as you may find else where. This is basically due to the good price you pay. But what they have is ok.

Second visit to this restaurant in 6 months and I have to say it was very good again .A great choice of food all well cooked and tasty. I really enjoyed the crispy seaweed, a new one on me.Also excellent were the ribs and Chinese curry .There is also a great choice desserts from jelley babies to fondue and even cake and hot custard. The beer was also fairly priced and of good quality. The décor is simple and very basic but also very clean and homely.I will be going again soon.Just over £60 for 3 buffets and 3 rounds of drinks.Well worth it.

If you enjoy tasty well prepared chinese buffet this is the place, the seating and laminated tables are very basic, but this is what I like about it here, there is an informality about the place where if your a single diner or a large group you fit in well here, the staff are very friendly and accommodating towards the customers. Every time I come in always leave enjoying my visit. If your visiting the theatres here this place is great for a tasty buffet that won't break the bank.

Staff lovely, wheelchair access fine, food scrumptious, only one thing spoiled it the tetleys was awful. Had it several times there before and was OK but not this time. Neither of us drank more than one mouth full. Other half complained about the beer when we paid at the end and they didn't charge for the beer. Hope its improved next time we visit.

We were invited there for Sunday lunch in beginning of December and I was looking forward knowing that place but haven't been for ages. The layout of the restaurant is changed and its look good. The disappointment came with the variety of the food, its look plenty but when go around you feel like chips is the best option.Little wraps station wasn't labeled clearly and luckily I asked the girl what was the meat- instead of duck it was pork. Many Chinese dishes are replaced by curries. Salad station used to be very rich but now it was only cucumbers, cherry tomatoes and carrots. Fresh fruit is no longer available instead there was canned pineapple. Desserts were OK including the legendary ice cream machine. Overall the quality of the food drop down very significantly and I would not go again.
