What an absolutely lovely location. Great atmosphere, real genuine hard working staff Always make you feel welcome . Just be careful when ordering puddings as the waitress Sophia thinks they all belong to her (Not really) just a lovely friendly young lady

The staff in here were brilliant with us when we broke down near the pub. Made us feel so welcome and were so helpful and just genuinely super nice. Made our bad day so much easier, thanks so much

I rang to book a table for 8 people for 1.00 pm 17th August. The person who answered the telephone was very abrupt. He told me that if I booked a table for 1.00 pm then it would leave a 'hole'. When I asked him to explain this he said that they started serving lunch from 12 noon and therefore our table would be empty for an hour! He eventually suggested 12.30 and I accepted this. I then requested a specific area in the restaurant and he told me that wasn't possible and that our table would be in another area. Knowing where he was talking about I declined as some areas are a tight squeeze. Whatever happened to customer service?

We were travelling for our holiday and stopped for lunch for a break from driving. The food was great, the facilities for the children were awesome Friendly staff. I would definitely recommend.

We were absolutely blown away by the facilities at The House in the Tree in Cheltenham. This pub goes above and beyond to cater to families, offering a petting zoo, a children’s football pitch, and a massive play garden with a climbing frame. They even have an ice cream hut, which was a delightful treat for the kids. Although we had already eaten before arriving, we couldn't resist trying the food and ordered a lasagna to share. It was outstanding! The kids' meals are also a fantastic deal at just £5.75 each. Jason, the landlord, was incredibly kind and gave our son some food to feed the animals, which made his day. It's very rare to find somewhere that caters so well to families. We spent over two hours there, and our little boy didn't want to leave! We’re so glad we came and cannot wait to visit again. We had lunch here on a sunny day in the half term holidays.It was busy - due to Covid we had pre booked and all was fine, but there was about 30-45 min wait for food.Kids meals are good valueKids play area was busy and good -but not huge. Animals were a good little extra treat to see - especially the goats Gin and Tonic!

Myself and my family came here today. The food was lovely and the setting was perfect. Despite the long wait time for food and drinks. I felt happy to wait and I understood because it was exceptionally busy and peak time. I was also inform about the wait time, when I placed my order. The setting was perfect and the outdoor play area was fantastic. However, the queuing system does not work. I queued for 45 mins to place my order, for drinks. Many customers failed to adhere to the social distancing guidelines and I felt very uncomfortable. The staff did not attempt to intervene. The lack of parking was also an issue, despite that I had booked a table a few days earlier. We sat in our car for 15 mins while we waited for a space to become available, surely if people are pre-booking a table the car park would not be overflowing? I understand it was exceptionally busy. However, I do not agree with the queuing system, it is potentially putting customers safety at risk. Despite these issues. The food was delicious and my family had a really nice time. Unfortunately, I will not be returning due to the queuing system.

Ate outside as per the regs at the time a couple of weeks ago. Very well run and Covid compliant, staff lovely and food good. Really nice, well done folk.

Booked a table at this well known establishment,all COVID matters we’re dealt with quickly and no fuss. We had ordered a table and they were set out so you were not close to another table.

Never fails. Ambience, Atmosphere, Setting, Lay out, Food, Service, Staff en masse, Beer choice, just excellent. Attitude is above the best. Lovely people. Even a little faux pas by my lovely wife did not phase them. If you have not been, what you waiting on !

The time for our lunch had to be changed, due to unknown and unforeseen events. The changing of the time was done over the phone, with no fuss. We arrived early and were Covid checked and handed our menu, then guided towards the garden with the kiddies play area. There are tables all over the garden, abiding by the Covid rules. Our order was taken and delivered to the table in short order.I had the fish and chips, which was excellent. 2 ham, egg and chips disappeared in quick time. The Steak and ale pie went down a storm and there was nothing left of the kiddies chicken nuggets, chips and peas. (Chicken Nuggets can be over cooked and become dry, but these were just right.)A superb meal, in the garden, in the sun, with family. What more could we ask for. House in the Tree is one of favourite eating places in Cheltenham. I am pleased to note that despite the Covid situation, they have maintained their excellent menu, their excellent chef and their excellent Staff. All working extremely hard to ensure that their customers enjoy their dining experience.Thoroughly recommended all day, every day.

The restaurant as usual was excellent and I would like to say a great thanks to all the staff and especially the chef who provided a fabulous Gluten Free option, and a good selection of real ale beers.:-)I hope to see you again in the New Year have a wonderful Christmas and a Happy New Year.

came in before lock down social distanceing was respected and carried out without loosing the personal touch .athou was was in a group we kept our distance and had a great time .donna jason and staff are brilliant and proffesional.the food is to die for .you wont find better

The food here is really lovely, burgers were huge and steak really flavoursome. The service was genuinely friendly and made for a great evening. Would definitely recommend.

Fabulous but very busy pub, must book ahead. Staff socially distanced squeezed us in! Pie was suet crust and beef beautifully cooked. Burger came with pickle skewered on top and a garlic mayo coleslaw. All absolutely fabulous, and a good price.

The food is delicious and you won't go hungry. The staff are attentive and friendly and the pub is a very nice place to be.I have no complaints whatsoever, especially around their Covid security which is second to none. They obviously care about their staff and customers.Excellent value and service, so if you go here for a meal, you won't be disappointed.

Visited the House in the tree 3 weeks in a row. The food is delicious. We asked for liver to be put in the specials board and it was. Donna is so attentive and makes sure that you are happy.

The house in the tree have always made beautiful great quality food, but on this Saturday evening, I enjoyed it much more than any other restaurant I've been to and I would highly recommend this dish and whomever made it.

Cenamos aquí. Aunque no hemos reservado con antelación, conseguimos una mesa. Todas las medidas en su lugar con desinfectantes en la entrada y mesas a distancia entre sí. Sin embargo, he notado que la mesera usó la máscara de manera incorrecta, sin cubrirse la nariz y la boca adecuadamente. La comida estuvo muy buena. Tuve la pasta con langostinos y cangrejo. Me decepcionó un poco cuando vi parmesano fresco en mi plato, mientras que desde el principio dije que no lo quería. Aceptamos y nos sentimos muy bien atendidos y seguros.Hemos comido aquí varias veces antes y siempre hemos tenido una comida excelente. Lovely welcome from lady at the door who showed us to our table and mentioned the specials board. Menu looked lovely but we went for the light sandwich option. Gosh if you have a small appetite be warned deep filled baguettes with lovely produce and a side salad, option of crisps or chips. Will definitely be back to try more of your menu. Thank you.

My sister in law and I decided to have a long weekend away from London and lodged at Cheltenham. We had been craving good pub grub for a while so used 30minutes to look for pubs where we were staying. This pub had the most extensive menu compared to the others so decided to visit. We didnt book before hand but the staff quickly made accommodation for us. The service was good and staff were friendly, often checking if we were good. The food however exceeded our expectation. Not only did it taste amazing, the produce was obviously of good quality. We will be going back before we leave for london because it was that good. My compliments to the chef

Was recommended to visit this pub but unfortunately the reviews didn’t match expectations. Understandably the menu was limited but what we did have was pretty average.

Huge thanks to Donna and her team for their usual warm welcome, excellent service and delicious food when we visited on Saturday to celebrate two 60th birthdays and a 30th birthday - our family 150th celebration. The steak pie remains the best we know and our great niece said the chips were a-ma-zing.Thank you for enabling our celebration even in these difficult times.

My wife and I met up with our oldest daughter and our two grandchildren for lunch. Very friendly staff, very good food and total attention paid to covid etc. Loads of hand wash stations etc. Really good experience.

What can I say....amazing from start to finish! Very covid secure, tables well spaced, cutlery brought in washable baskets and staff maintaining distance. The food was incredible....the choice was fab! Never felt rushed and though we ate on the 50% deal, I would have happily paid full price. Will certainly be back and will bring my family next time!

It had been a long time since we last visited this pub, so it was good to go again. My partner had the gammon and chips, he said it was the best gammon he had had in a long time. I had the rump steak and had a side salad with it. My steak was very good. Sat outside later to have a drink and look at the animals. The black pig was snoring loudly so that provided some entertainment! Lovely pib, staff are friendly and helpful. Recommended

If you’re looking for a great selection of food, warm hospitality and somewhere that caters for the whole family then this is the place to come. Faultless every time and highly recommended.

The coffee here is great and definitely a lot better than most chain coffee houses. Always friendly staff and toilets are immaculate. Lovely garden areas too

went in with friends tuesday night 3 steaks 1 pie the pie was to die for full of meat and flavour .the steaaks were cooked to perfection .dan the waitress talked us through the menu .was friendly helpfull and couldent do enough for us .food service dont get any better then this

An impromptu lunch out, just because we could It was so nice to have a bit of normality and our lunch here was fab. We booked a table the previous day, arrived and had a friendly welcome.The staff are wearing masks, tables well separated and we felt very comfortable.The best meat pie fresh veg & all piping hot. What a lovely pub! We wanted to stop somewhere near to the M5 on our way home from Devon and found this pub on trip advisor. We sat in the garden near to the animals which the kids loved. There were so many lovely places to sit outside in different areas.They are brilliantly organised with plenty of social distancing, hand sanitiser and one way systems. We felt really safe and well protected.And the food was gorgeous!!! The rump steak was delicious and everyone thoroughly enjoyed their meals. The puddings were also delicious. We’ll definitely stop here again next time we go down the M5. Highly recommend

We have had many fine meals in the House in the Tree, but today was our first Sunday lunch. The food was marvellous and the staff could not have been more helpful. The social distancing was managed perfectly without being intrusive. Highly recommended

After three months they opened a week or so ago 15/7/2020 and we ventured down all the necessary precautions had been taken from arriving there till the time we left.A few tables had been taken out so there was social distancing and the staff wore masks,The food was as good as ever and we had a pleasant meal.

The best food ever, very impressed with measures that they’ve put in place and the food is outstanding. There’s not one thing I can complain about. 10/10 Highly recommended

Visited here during the week and was overly impressed with the service along with the food, whilst following all the sfatey measures.I had the steak and ale pie and it was definitely the best pie I've had.Even though the social distancing is in place, the staff went above and beyond. Always friendly and I'm sure they are smiling behind their masks. All over customers in the resturant and outside were appropriately seated. Well done to the team at the house in the Tree! Will definitely be returning soon.

Myself and 2 friends booked for Sunday lunch and it was just as good as we all remembered. You can not fault the staff with the new guidelines... We were shown to our table to have a drink outside first with the farm animals (our choice, we love the pigs) . Then when we were ready to go inside, plenty of hand sanitation areas. I am allergic to dairy and the chef always accommodates for my dietary requirements! Food was spot on. Lovely atmosphere, wasn't as busy as it has been previous but we all had an amazing afternoon. Donna and her team gave us their usual warm welcome and we enjoyed another fab meal at the House in the Tree. The steak and ale pie is to die for! One downside this visit - no sticky toffee pudding but we enjoyed our second choice puds just as much.

Telephoned on a sunday to book a table for the following Wednesday, was told sharply by the lady who answered ' I'm in service phone back at 7pm' - in service - Where ? Downton Abbey?! I did call back, food was good but only rump steak on menu for steaks, empty table next to us all night, but someone who asked for a table was told it was full to capacity. You are not allowed to look at the drinks before choosing, told to sit down and they would tell us what they had ? There is so much more competition in the area now I feel they are losing their edge.

We are local to the area and decided to go here for a quick beer and let the kids play in the play area then decided to stop and have food. Although all tables were booked they managed to fit us in. The food was excellent along with the service. Only downside was that i was going to change my childs nappy but there is no baby change in male toilets but luckily had my wife with me so she was able to do it, if i had been on my own i don't know how i would have changed it

We booked just a few hours before arriving, which I understand is almost unheard of at the popular pub/restaurant. Two of us occupied a circular table in a quiet corner of the restaurant, which we later learned was possibly the best table in the house. If we had told the staff in advance, we would have had suitable flowers on the table to celebrate our belated Valentines meal. We are amazed at their attention to detail, despite being a busy Friday evening...Full marks for my king prawn in cream & cheese sauce starter, and the minted lamb steak main course.The staff were attentive, friendly and efficient.Booking our next visit before leaving the premises was a smart move in our opinion.

Visited on a Friday night having booked in the morning as a result of Trip Advisor recommendations (engaged for 20 minutes). It didn’t disappoint. Two adults and three children were well fed and had a great time. Typical traditional English pub atmosphere and authentic decor with nearly every table displaying a reserved sign. Menu was varied and portions very generous but great pub grub with fresh veg and lovely gravy. The 4 layer chocolate cake was divine! Service was excellent. All in all a great experience and we’d be regulars if we were more local!

We had Sunday lunch there today - there were several of us and we all enjoyed our food. Well priced and tasty. Amazing vegan / gluten free option of sweet potato and cashew tart - so much better than I expected. Shame it wasn’t on the menu though, I rang up to ask. Lovely friendly staff too

Above average pub grub where you get really tasty food at good prices and portion sizes. Service was just right not in your face but always there when required and the restaurant is spacious but has cosy feel. I’d recommend this pub and especially the steak&Ale; pie, fabulous.

Lovely venue for a lunch party for 14 including pre-schoolers and teenagers as well as adults. We were asked to pre-order lunch but the venue was happy to allow the guest of honour to order on the day so as not to spoil the surprise. Very friendly and helpful staff, good tasty and well-cooked food, flexible to accommodate the younger members of the party, and relaxed atmosphere. Really lovely.

Once again, an excellent meal, arranged at short notice. A terrific menu, including specials board, resulted in 4 people leaving the pub, with no room for any more food. Outstanding menu, presented by an excellent chef and staff who made you feel welcome. I recommend the House in the Tree, without reservation.

Booked this place for lunch to meet up with family. Some of our party were late due to a puncture. The staff could not have been more accommodating. When everyone had arrived our drinks order was taken - great range of drinks and real ales. Food order was taken and food delivered after a short wait.

Our second visit. Great food Chicken Supreme suberb. A pint of Jail Ale - so well kept. The landlords - husband and wife team and lovely waitress. Nothing too much effort.

Met here for a family lunch on Dec 28th. The staff were welcoming and very efficient. Drinks were ordered first and these were served quickly. We then ordered the fish platter (2), Pie, Sausage & Mash (2) and Lasagne. Despite the menu saying that there may be a wait as all food was cooked to order, we only had to wait around 20 minutes. All orders were delivered at the same time and any extra sauces gravy etc requested were brought without delay. Staff were attentive, asking if drink refills were required. All the dishes ordered were well cooked, well presented and delicious. We have eaten here several times in the past and it has never failed us. Would definitely recommend.

We visited on Saturday night. The choice on the menu was varied and the standard of cooking excellent. The staff really make or break a dining experience for me and at the House in the Tree they are some of the friendliest and most helpful. This was our third visit and we plan to return soon.

I've been here off an on for years, but I have been slow to notice that it changed hands 5 years ago and the current managers have pulled this place to the top of the pile with excellent food and well kept ales and ciders. I had the pork belly pork (best I have ever had) and will be back to try other dishes. I almost never add photos to my reviews, but take a look here. Also, jam roly poly, total satisfaction. The portions are generous and the prices extremely reasonable too. The staff were very well trained and helpful. This place is my new favourite and congrats to the management, you are doing a grand job.

Called in on a Tues evening after passing an hour earlier on our way home. They were fully booked (it being the last full week before Christmas) but wonder of wonders they were able to seat us at a table booked out for 7:30pm (this was around 5:45pm). Jason took our drinks order and shortly after took our food order. He said it would take around 30 minutes which we were fine with, but it didn't take that long anyway. My steak and ale pie with veg was lovely - the chips were delicious, super crispy and fluffy. Hubby loved the belly pork with crackling and mash along with his two pints of Butty Bach. Cost just under £37. We were too full for dessert but willingly accepted a chocolate, or two! Not once did we feel rushed as the tables filled up. Clean toilets. Loved looking at the old photos of the pub and surrounding areas. My only regret is that we were unable to visit again on our last night (Fri) as, understandably, they were fully booked. Our loss! Thanks once again for accommodating us. Merry Christmas!

Although it was really busy four of us were greeted warmly and shown to our table. We were served promptly with good food and staff ensured we lacked nothing. Due to the festive season and high number of diners, the specials board was not available. Overall a good experience

came here on works night out knew we would get a good meal but this was better then expected .the food was hot the courses came out .nicely timed and the food was excellent hot .and the staff were out standing .dont know how donna does it .but the food service is better every time we come .thank you for making our night out a great night out

The food is home cooked so there is sometimes a bit of a wait but it is worth waiting for. We went with a group of twelve and the service was friendly and first class

Five of us had Sunday Dinner here, having reserved a table in advance. We all opted for the Mixed Meats and with the exception of the chicken breast, which was a bit dry, we all enjoyed our meals; it would have been better if we had a slice or two of chicken breast rather than a hunk.

Excellent food and plenty of it, lovely Staff, and obviously they must have a Good Chef (no complaints). 1 mini complaint is if you sit near the Resturaunt door and its cold weather it is a bit chilly, Brrrrr. If you go it is advisable to book. You will not be disappointed, Excellent,

Was expecting something special as was recommend by a friend to go there.

We went here for an evening meal with friends and it was absolutely superb. Stephanie did a great job as our waitress and ensured that service was perfectly timed. I didn't hear a complaint of any sort from anyone in our party.

I love this place. The staff are kind and friendly and nothing is too much trouble. They will always do their best to seat you even if you haven't booked.

Visited with family without booking, however we managed to get a table even though it was very busy. The food and service were excellent, which is always the case when we have visited previously. This place consistently delivers on all fronts, we will be back.

Went to the house in the tree on Thursday night for a birthday meal for my son’s birthday, we had starters and a main meal which was all amazing and staff are brill , don’t think I have eaten so much in one night !

Warm welcome. Easy, level parking. Ate in the pub: a Saturday night and almost fully booked but found us a table. One meat-eater and one veggie; both enjoyed our meals very much. Friendly, professional staff and service. Pleased we stayed and that we ate in the pub. Recommend.

We came here for a family meal as it was my mums 60th birthday. It didnt disappoint. There was 6 adults and 2 children and we all had a roast dinner and puddings. Orders for food and drink were sorted quickly and food arrived in good time too

We booked the house in the tree for a retirement celebration for a group of 19, we were asked to pre-order so they could ensure we all had our choices,and gave them time to talk to their suppliers if needed, when I took the order in they talked me through timings of the evening, we all ate together, rather than in waves, and the food was delicious, hot, fresh, cooked perfectly, and our waiter was excellent, 5 stars really isn't enough.

I cannot recommend House in the Tree highly enough. Superb food from the very varied menu, very friendly staff and i would not consider in anyway that our meal was expensive. In fact it was incredibly good value. Definitely booking again

I booked a table at The House In The Tree for my wife's birthday. The day before I called to add a person and this was dealt with without a fuss.

Seated within minutes, main course took a little while to arrive but not a problem (they were very busy), pleasant dining room with a lovely 'feel' i.e. relaxed and informal. Customers looked to be mainly local/regulars with a few tourists like us in the mix. Clean plates all around, always a good sign.

We booked a table for 2 on 20th September. Our meal was lovely - we both had the steak pie which came with lovely hot veggies and were offered extra gravy! There was a family with a young child which was making itself heard. The management made the point that the rest of the diners were being affected by this - and I support their stance. So well done - we’ll be back.

Pre-booked and were warmly welcomed by friendly staff. Was invited to sample a taster of a new real ale before deciding on our drinks. Time given to decide on our meal selection - vegetable and bean chilli with rice, and Camembert and Lemon Tart with new potatoes and green salad. Both arrived after a respectable wait for freshly prepared food and the verdict was that both were excellent. Staff always nearby, attentive without being overly fussy. Our desserts were also excellent - Raspberry Frangipani Tart with ice cream and Lemon Tart with cream. Washed down with some fine Tempranillo wine, our meal was ideal. Ady and the team were courteous, attentive and helpful. A wonderful find on the last night of our holiday. Highly recommended.

I took my American friend who was visiting there today. The food and service were very good. Staff were friendly and they did not rush us either.

We stopped for lunch here on our way to Dorset. We were looking for something really close to the M5 so we wouldn’t have a big detour. This place was only four minutes from the M5 which was perfect for us.

I booked here for a family meal but after reading the previous comment, left just two days ago, I have to admit I was not sure what to expect, however, I have to strongly disagree with that review and I ask myself what caused some issues?? The whole experience from start to finish was a delight. Donna and Jason were most accommodating from the second we walked in, the waiter and waitresses were friendly and efficient (having worked in customer service for over 20 years, they all certainly have qualities I expect) and above all the food was amazing, in fact one of the best meals I've had in a country pub and came out very quickly, which is ideal when you have young hungry children who just want to play. The atmosphere was bustling and our children had an excellent time playing outside and seeing the pigs! The gardens are kept lovely with beautiful flowers. I would highly recommend this pub. Thank you.

Once again we had a great meal served by professional happy staff probably the best Sunday dinner in Gloucestershire

Having seen the review and opening times here...took a detour off the M5 at 310pm Thursday.

Lovely meal with a friend on Tuesday evening. Food and service excellent. Need to book as very busy due to being so good! Great menu selection and good value for such great quality food.

My wife and I last minute decided to pop out for Sunday roast and thought we would try our luck at The House In The Tree knowing that they are always booked up on a Sunday, To our surprise staff were very friendly ,accommodating and found us a table in the front bar. The food was quick and very reasonably priced. We have to say that was possibly one of the best roast dinners I’ve ever had and my wife’s ploughman’s lunch was top shelf too!!

Rang for a table. Told (by a rude member if staff) they don’t take reservations. Turned up, another rude member of staff said they are full. 4 x tables with reservation signs on it. Confused by their service/lack off.

We visited the House in the tree with my partners elderly grandparents, his nan has dementia. The staff were friendly and patient with her. The food is always gorgeous and very generous portion sizes! There are a few members of staff who are a bit rude and appear unfriendly. However most staff are welcoming and warm. We have been here several times and will certainly be back. The animals outside are always a pleasure to ho and look at.

My friend and I decided to visit the House in the Tree on the off-chance. When we arrived it was very busy and we realised we should have booked. However, the lady that greeted us said we were welcome to eat in the bar, so that's what we decided to do. By the time we got to the bar, one of her colleagues was waiting with a menu and treated us just like we would have been treated on the main restaurant. The food was delicious and the service was brilliant despite the fact that they were clearly busy. We are already planning a return visit.
