We arrived for lunch and weren’t sure which way to enter the restaurant. There is a front door but no sign or anything intimating it was the main entrance or whether it was the door for the hotel or the restaurant or both; so we opted for the side gate but still weren’t sure if we were going the correct way. Still not sure whether we had entered the restaurant via the correct route we were seated quickly and my young daughter needed the bathroom: we went to the bathroom leaving my partner at the table and by the time we came back there were still no menus on the table. I did wonder if it was the start of things to come. However, thankfully, I was wrong. Everything after that was seamless. Service was good and food was great. My partner had the burger, I had eggs Benedict and my daughter had pizza. My only personal preference with the eggs Benedict would be to have a thick slice of ham, but as I say, that’s my personal preference. All the food was good quality. We liked the seating arrangements too; tables weren’t squeezed in and there was plenty of space between tables. We’ve already recommended this place to friends and family and will return ourselves in the area.

I used to love going to Spot in the Woods with friends. Food was amazing, but has changed since new owners have taken over. Its too expensive and not enough variation on vegan and vegetarian options. Its not the same anymore. Was such a lovely venue to go to after a walk for a drink and cake. sadly i dont think i will be going anymore

I just wanted to write a quick review to say how totally impressed I was with this gorgeous place. Totally dog friendly and such a relaxed atmosphere. The staff were very attentive and nothing was too much trouble. We will definitely be back with our dog to stay in one of the gorgeous shepherds huts that are within the grounds.

I've been going to Spot in the Woods since it was previously Hotel Terravina. Under the previous ownership the food was excellent, service and pricing spot on and was 'the place to go'. I went on Saturday lunchtime for the first time under the new ownership and was shocked at how disappointing it was. Firstly the restaurant was empty on a sunny weekend which i've never seen before!! The menu arrived and it is the strangest thing ever. Food options for lunch were a full "dinner size" plate or a "small plate" such as grilled asparagus which is more of a side. No simple lunch options other than pizza and a toasted sandwich priced at £14! I opted for the £14 sandwich which to be honest is horrific pricing. the food took a long to to arrive which for an empty restaurant wasn't inspiring. Sadly, from what WAS an amazing forest cafe, its changed to being overpriced and with a menu not really set up for a light lunch in the forest.

We placed our order, it took 3 attempts to get a lager from the menu for my husband, the first 2 weren’t available. We waited almost an hour for our main course , it wasn’t busy. My son in law ordered 2 small plates instead of a main, they were nice but tiny @ around £9 each. The pizzas were good but again, small. My grandson had the sausage patty which was very nice and I had the burger which was OK. We ordered 4 desserts, the triffle was lovely and the ice cream Sunday was nice but the Eton Mess was a joke, a couple or maybe 3 mini meringues, les than a whole strawberry and a lot of cream? Not an Eton mess and not worth £7.50? My daughter and son in law had eaten here pre Covid and loved it but this was very poor. It is a beautiful spot but I can’t remember the last time I had such a poor meal and terrible slow service, they seemed shocked when my daughter asked for the service charge to be removed and we said we wouldn’t return.

Been to venue before, but this was a pleasant surprise. Perhaps menu could contain some more "meat" based dishes but the standard of the food was good . The ambience has been improved and the staff were genuinely helpful and attentive. New menus soon, hopefully there'll be slightly wider range of food available. Come......... we think you'll like it.

I loved this cafe , always meet people here and have been several times in the last few weeks. BUT today has been a real turn off…very very sadly. I met a friend there, we had coffee and my friend just wanted toast . One slice of toast was duly delivered with butter and marmalade for one person . When we came to pay we questioned the bill. The toast was £6.00!! There was no apology but a very dismissive explanation that it was sour dough toast and hence the cost !! I could have bought at least three loaves and had change for the cost . I understand it has to be toasted and taken to the table but that is some incredible profit. To date the staff have always been exceptional, the service brilliant and the food good. But this is so so disappointing that I will have to think if I return. These were different staff to the usual . An apology and checking with someone over the price would have been better. Moral of the tale….DO NOT order toast !!!

Haven’t been for a while since change of owners. Very pricey but service not that slick. They tried to give my husband some toast which had already been out to a table and rejected, been under the lamp for 10 minutes. At this price expect everything to be fresh and perfect. We were surprised chef not wearing apron. I appreciate the relaxed feel of the cafe but I think an apron is a basic hygiene requirement. We shall not be back for quite a while. Other cafes offer much better value and of similiar standard.

Having been here many times previously, I'm not sure what's happened to spot in the woods... Has it changed hands??? Prices are extortionate.... Breakfast 14 pounds!!! Had a tea, coffee and teacake as too expensive to eat. Drinks took ages to be served and by the time my expensive teacake at £4 arrived it was pretty much cold!! ! Mentioned it to the staff on paying but she just said sorry and wasn't too bothered. Such a shame as we loved this place for the location but it's criminal to charge these prices and you need to up your service too. Will not return.

first time we have visited this place, on arrival after being seated, waited at least 10 minutes for a coffee, ordered 2 breakfast which took 50minutes for a shrivelled up piece of bacon 2 hard poached eggs ect, and all this for a very expensive £14 pound each, and it was luke warm and very poorly cooked. the restaurant was half full with 5 members of staff working so no shortage of staff, having waited so long for our breakfast you would of thought an apology would of been in order but NO. when paying we complained but no interest was taken. so definitely will not be returning.

The setting is beautiful and the facilities fine. However, it is a very expensive place to go for a cup of tea and slice of cake. A pot of tea for three and one slice of cake was £12.75. It was all very nice, but we are not prepared to pay that price again when there are so many other venues in the New Forest that charge a fraction of the cost.

I’ve always loved going to Spot in the Wood but hadn’t looked at the menu before I arrived so I was very disappointed at the very small choice of dishes and how much they cost. The old menus had been stuck together to just show the drinks available which was confusing. We didn’t have desserts as they were £8 each and a piece of cake was £4.50. Unsurprisingly the restaurant wasn’t very busy. Sadly we won’t be going again. There are lots of nearby places that are just as nice but have a better menu choice at a more reasonable price.

I have just visited this cafe . Food was appalling . Small portion size ,I had mushrooms on toast for £12.00 I am still hungry . Brioche slice was the size of my palm ,not many mushrooms and a fried egg . Not good value ! Burgers that some ordered were salty on half the burger . One person left his . Others just ate it because they were hungry . We were a party of 11 and no one was happy with the size or over salting of food . The menu was very poor too. Very expensive mistake , we won’t return . Been here many many times and have always praised the food and service. I know the Coronavirus is a big worry for this and all hospitality but the service we had left a lot to be desired. My poached eggs arrived hard and went back to the kitchen. The replacements did have soft centres but were cold. I hadn't the heart to send them back again but not sure how can newly cooked eggs (or were they ? ) be cold when they were served up so quickly after the hard ones went back. The sourdough toast and the bacon were done to death. The existing chefs sadly are not a patch on the recently departed ones. And some of the staff ( not all of them ) need to be taught some of the basics of how to serve and then look after customers. And we brought friends here for the first time. They weren't impressed as the extra requested tartare sauce never came nor did a cappuccino.

We went here a few months ago and found the food (cottage pie) nice but the portions rather small for the price so thought we would give it another try. We selected the fish pie which came with spinach and once again found that the portion was on the small side. There was only a small amount of spinach and nothing else. At £10 it did seem on the pricey side for the size of portion. We thought that we would have some cake as on our previous visits there has been a lovely selection on the counter - plus we had room as we weren't full from the fish pie! There were three cakes - two flapjack style and one individual cake (muffin?). They certainly didn't entice us so we left. I wonder if cakes are off the menu now?The place was certainly busy for an early lunch on a Monday so perhaps they are aiming at lunches rather than coffee and cake eaters?

I am writing this review because even though I visited this place over a year ago and gave a good review I have been back here a few times since and it's the same thing, most of the staff are so miserable, nearly slamming food on table, and abruptly pulling away the empty plates, this is mainly the same couple of staff. The men who serve are polite so was the older lady, I even said to her when she took our order " oh what a change someone who happy and polite ", and the waitress who was stood at the service it's not a good look to be chewing on something, e.h.o would take a point of you, my daughter swears it was a wasp she was chewing on..

Chose to meet friends here for lunch as a convenient midway point. Enjoyed the sunshine in the garden. Interesting selection of beers and ciders, as well as soft drinks, and everyone commented on the very good coffee. Two dishes were particularly favourably received, the ham egg and chips and the smoked salmon scrambled eggs, however the vegetarian wrap was heavy on wrap, and less on filling, and the batter element of the Fish and chips was significantly past a normal golden colour.....and appeared the same on other plates going past. Would come back though, and maybe choose different dishes! Prices reasonable for the quality and the proximity to the New Forest. Staff friendly and helpful.

I ordered drinks asap as needed to take a headache tablet and in the end I had to go to the bar and get the drinks as after 10 minutes waiting. And even then the order was wrong. I ordered the Ramesco hash and was disappointed bu the very vinegary artichoke, the blandness of the rest of the dish apart from a very strong taste of garlic. Even though they were very busy (as seems to be the norm with them these days), they had a good system of taking names of anyone waiting for a table and then keeping you informed as to the progress of a table becoming free. As I said, it was very busy, but we only had about a 5-10 min wait in a comfortable, seated area. The food was excellent; plentiful and reasonable priced and also, cooked freshly to order. It also has a couple of little shops to look around and you can sit outside when its nice and even take dogs.

We go here lots, with friends, with the dog, various times of day - it’s always great for breakfast, brunch, lunch & tea! Yummy food, just the right amount of choice, all made with love. Also vegan friendly. Brilliant spot :-)

We have just returned from a two-night break at a hotel in the Forest, and enjoyed the food, coffee and dog-friendly hospitality here three times in that short period! Initially we had an early lunch/ all-day breakfast inside the cafe, and then the following two days returned to sit out on the verandah just for the fabulous coffee. There is also a farm shop, local craft/gift room and accommodation. We plan to return to stay. Thanks and 'Well done' to all staff who made our visits so enjoyable and memorable.

First visit was back in April 18 (coffee only but very impressed back then) and not been since, so was looking forward to a lunch meeting with 5 other friends. Offered a menu with wraps, sandwiches, small lunch plates, soup etc and then there was a specials of the day board. Lamp shanks £12.50 which was oh so tempting and garlic crevettes served with black garlic mayonnaise £10.50. Three of my friends went for a blue cheese and rosemary quiche which they loved, one went for a wrap that looked delicious, another chose the soup but I had the last crevette portion in the restaurant! OMG. It was simply divine. Lots of crevettes served with brown bread and a bit of salad on the side. Flavour was outstanding....I still can’t praise the chefs enough. Good value for £. Would choose that anytime. But a finger bowl was really needed as shells on prawns and therefore very messy. Excellent friendly service. You must try here!

Four of us met here for a Saturday lunch. I hadn’t dined here since it changed from TerraVina. I was impressed by how busy it was and as you can’t book we had to wait 10 minutes for a table. I chose Carrot Fritters, which were nice and everyone else enjoyed their meals. Service was good and friendly. We’ll be back.

Visited here on a Sunday lunchtime with about a dozen of my family, nothing was too much bother, moved tables around to accommodate us all. We had various reasons, coffees, wine, bacon sandwiches etc, etc. All really good. The place itself is lovely, great dining area, lovely garden with a terrace and swimming pool for guests. Also two shop areas. The toilets were clean and well equipped!

We came here with our two pups before going on a forest dog walk. We had a table by the window with a great view of the terrace and garden. Breakfast was really good and served in a timely manner. Efficient waitresses who didn't bat an eyelid when one of our pups had a small wee on the floor (neither of them have owned up to it yet). Lots of free parking. I will definitely return and would like to come in the summer too as I feel that decking would be perfect for warmer weather.

I’ll start by saying I rarely bother reviewing places, I save my reviews for the incredibly good and bad. I saw Spot in the Woods was well reviewed on local Facebook groups so with a rare weekend at home decided to walk my dogs nearby then pop in for some lunch. I was not disappointed in any way, in fact quite the opposite, the place is fantastic! A little list why:

Visited recently on a murky day. This meant windows and doors were closed and everybody was seated inside. The food is great and the staff polite and helpful. However the acoustics are poor to the extent that it was difficult to hold a conversation with the person next to you let alone someone on the opposite side of the table. I have heard that in good weather noise isn’t a problem and I will make a return visit when the weather is fine because everybody enjoyed their lunch. The deli looked interesting as did the gift shop.

We visited at lunch time on a busy Friday without a booking and were greeted by friendly welcoming staff who advised there would be a wait for a table. We browsed the in the lovely deli for a little while and were soon found a table. The atmosphere was buzzing. My daughter and I were so pleased to have a choice of several vegan dishes. I chose mushroom and avacado on sourdough which was delicious. My daughter choice of carrot fritters which unfortunately had just sold out. She said that her second choice of pea and mint risotto was also really good.

I have been to Spot in the Woods a couple of times and enjoyed each occasion. The first time was with Wives from HMS Invincible local group - great response - hoping to return at end of October to celebrate a birthday... The next time was with a friend who was recovering from a serious illness and she thoroughly enjoyed the meal and experience. At beginning of November the local Ladies Who Lunch are looking forward to trying out your varied menu... Friendly and efficient staff; excellent menu - delicious and well presented meals. In addition it is nice to browse around the spice / fragrance rooms.

We found this lovely place (hotel, deli, gift shop, eatery) through a quick google search for vegan options. There was a real busy there when we visited for breakfast on a lovely sunny August day. The staff were very well trained and efficient, even though it was a busy Sunday morning. I had a vegan breakfast which came with roasted tomato, avocado and Linda McCartney veggie sausages. The other order was for a sausage sandwich which although not on the menu as a vegan offering was quickly offered using the LM sausages. There were plant based milks available for a non-dairy latte and the green tea was superb. The whole place is beautifully presented with some really nice little touches like free sanitary products in the ladies loo. I would thoroughly recommend a visit.

Stumbled upon this Kitchen Cafe whilst walking in the New Forest. So glad we did. We only wanted a coffee; the staff were very friendly and efficient and we were served the good quality coffee on the veranda overlooking the garden.

After a challenging weekend in the New Forest, (not the Forest’s fault) we decided to try and salvage something by having a posh afternoon tea at Burley Manor before returning home. We rang and booked the day before as wifey is both vegetarian and GF, and we wanted to give them a fighting chance. I wish we hadn’t bothered. Let’s start with the parking - there isn’t any if your vehicle is bigger than a small family gadabout. We were in our motorhome, and ended up parking in a field that was open for a separate event. Burley Manor assured us this was fine, and that neither gate (big or small) would be locked. You guessed it - wrong , but we squeezed out thanks to wifey’s skilful driving and steely nerve. Then let’s talk about the perfectly coiffed member of staff who seated us, took our drinks order, sent somebody else over with them, then ignored us for nigh on 45 mins. Finally our afternoon tea arrived and was placed by a disdainful waiter, who when he was confused about who’s was who’s and I pointed out the ramifications of getting it wrong snapped, ‘well I didn’t take the order, did I?’ The food itself was fine, just fine, not excellent or amazing, and certainly not worth £61! When we challenged our disdainful waiter on the horrific wait, he was more than happy to throw his colleagues under the bus, saying that his previous establishment had been much more professional! His excuse was that they had had been overbooked for lunch and had several afternoon tea bookings. They had our phone number, if they couldn’t handle the number of guests, they shouldn’t have taken the booking, or they should have cancelled us. To be honest, the nice man who had accidentally locked us in the field, on his Penny farthing and talked about deer and pigs, but reassured us we would easily get Buzzy the motorhome out was the highlight of the whole debacle, and he didn’t work for Burley Manor!
