The layout/decor is really nice but the service and food was disappointing. Despite the bar-restaurant being more than half empty, the staff member was so unfriendly and treated us like we were an inconvenience. The food was edible but not particularly nice, so overpriced - the pizza base tasted like a cheap supermarket one, the beef chilli was bland and the rice was hard. The "checkback" was asked across the room, perfunctory but not really caring. We won't be back, there are plenty of pubs in the area that do have decent food and make their customers feel welcome. 🤷

Nice friendly place and dog friendly which is a win for us, I think this is the only pub/bar I’ve ever been in that has little hooks on the tables to put the dogs leads on. Had the £10 roast to fuel up for the rest of the hike, hit the spot nicely.

The Commoners Bar - in my travels, this would also be at home somewhere in Czechia or Germany. Stylish interior with industrial type lighting. Spacious with a great atmosphere. Welcomed by friendly bar staff member Lana from Ukraine, passionate. Setting up a bar-tab was no problems as we were sitting inside. High tables with high stools for 2 to 4 people, normal height tables too and comfy sofas in the front. Plenty of electrical points for those wishing to charge or use their electronic devices with free wifi. The bar, an impressive array of wines and top shelf. Cider, lager and a guest ale, Hicks, at 5%. Nicely chilled (but not too much) and not too hoppy. Looking at the menu, the prices were reasonable, not outlandish. Grazing boards, pizzas, something for the little ones, sides, buns and wraps. I opted for a burger that was served in a ciabatta bun and not brioche. Partner opted for ham, egg and chips. Both were exceptionally good. Our bill came in under £50 for drinks, sharers plate and 2 main courses. A rarerity round here. Definately coming back and suggest others visit too. Their drinks menu is one to read. Definately worth coming into this bar in Brockenhurst, relaxed, welcoming and not over-priced. Was very impressed their loos especially the disabled. Clean and functional.

Reminds me a bit of a student union but in a good way. I love the art on the walls and the atmosphere is welcoming. I found the staff to be relaxed and friendly. The absolute triumph was the quality and value of the wine(we tried four different wines) and food. All in all, it is an excellent experience.

Had an amazing roast meal for £10 I wouldn't normally spend that much on a meal, but it was totally worth it, and relatively inexpensive considering the quality of the establishment, the location and the excellence of the food. Perfectly cooked and presented, I wanted to lick the plate. I felt a bit bad not buying a drink, but the food was exactly what I needed after a long walk in the New Forest. Thankyou Commoners Restaurant

We were told food would be a wait, but ended up being an hour and 15/20 mins. When we ordered the garden was full of people around 1.45 and by the time we got our food it was gone 3 and no one was around. We thought we had been forgotten, with no updates. When the food came the nachos were tiny and unimpressive sadly, the cheese board was lovely but the grapes were going brown. My husband had a pie which was delicious. Overall, a few good parts but mostly disappointing I'm afraid.

Huge language barrier here! The young lady was trying her best but did not understand hardly any English at all. Even a simple order needed so much explaining, and trying again and involving other staff to get my order. All going over the head of this girl. A shame really as not her fault that she was employed when clearly does not understand enough English and has put her in such an awkward position.

If you are hiking around the New Forest or just having a time off in Brockenhurt, a must to do is going to the Commoners. It's easy to find in one of the principal streets. That's one reason why is so popular, but is more than that. The atmosphere is friendly and good and drinks are great. I was there twice, one just for a beer (Guinness, obviously) and the second one for dinner are riding the bike a few hours. I wanted to taste a traditional British Sunday roast and I booked one day before (just in case). It was as delicious as I expected. Well served and well done. Congratulations and thanks to the people, I felt like surrounded by friends and family.

A very odd experience. In short, the food wasn't great and while the service was friendly, it certainly wasn't great. The place wasn't busy when I visited, with maybe 2 other tables in. The front of house staff member juggled these tables with a level of stress that I'd expect to see on an ICU nurse when a patient starts crashing. After ordering some waters we had to wait maybe 10-15 minutes for them. In this time we were brought cutlery and seasonings and a young lady brought in a (cute) puppy who in turn was offered water before we got ours. Said puppy roamed around freely while it's owner was overheard saying that it had 2 accidents at home previously. Staff didn't see the problem with it walking around the bar. When the food arrived it was fine. Not awful, but if I'm honest my 15 pound chicken ciabatta was basically a chicken sandwich, some frozen chips and a small pot of supermarket coleslaw which had definitely gone off. I'm not one to make a fuss but I did mention this to the staff as they cleared the plates. It's very telling that I didn't get so much as a "that's embarrassing, sorry about that". If the kitchen staff aren't aware/don't care that their food is off then that's worrying but its just as worrying that they don't seem to care either. Wouldn't come back and wouldn't reccomend.

3-4 Stars respective to the area. Ate here twice during our short stay at the new forest due to gluten free options being available. Self-seating and ordering at the bar. The wine was interesting, a lot of choice and nicely chilled when ordering a white. The food was okay. Could be elevated with better seasoning during cooking, better plating (nachos were split into respective parts instead of being built for example) and sauces and seasonings not being in pre-bought sachets. Thank you for the quick and accurate service.

Welcome addition to Brockenhurtst and with some small changes could do SOOOOOO well. Small plates could be more extensive.. pastas Bravas , Italian meatballs ( current meatballs are manufactured and tasteless ) humus, cheese and meat boards , garlic prawn , bruschetta etc etc … the mains are a bit of a non event and somewhat tasteless. Food feels re- heated which is why it’s a 2 star rating for me. Potential is 100% there but needs some TLC to raise the rating. Cocktails are good and the staff are really friendly

Sorry Commoners, we're local and tried you today. Lovely girls running the site but no experience whatsoever. We were asked to pay for drinks when they arrived, we said we were ordering food but we weren't allowed to run a bill and so had to pay for the drinks, then we ordered the food and she walked back over with the food bill to ask for payment before the food arrived. Smell of old oil is very strong, you need to either change it or clean it. Chicken Caesar salad was grey chicken and the croutons were too tough to eat (to be fair the lovely waitress did refund this). The asian fish and chips were greasy and overcooked and the tomato salad was doused with a watery balsamic and under ripe tomatoes (and served in the wrong dish). The toilets are by the automatic door so every time the bathroom is used the doors open and shut. The seating was uncomfortable and the general ambiance and decor are just wrong. We have watched for months as this place was created and were eagerly anticipating someone new to go but this doesn't have it's own identity, the industrial lighting and ducting (all very nice) is at odds with the commoners theme. The exposed brickwork is too warehousey - we can see you've invested a huge sum of money but it just doesn't join up in terms of decor, ambience and food - it's a pity really.

I really hope this new business is a success but changes need to be made. Positives first - very nice helpful young staff. However, they were not correctly trained in the COVID guidelines. Our contact details were taken at the door which was good but we were then told we had to order everything at the bar which meant that customers were constantly criss-crossing each other all evening which obviously increases the risk of infection. The food was awful so they need a new chef. I look forward to seeing improvements but will not be going back until that has happened.

Friendly helpful staff who took our contact details on entry. The bar is new and is modern in style. The first thing to say is that this business is not following Government guidelines and is not COVID safe. Customers have to get up and go to the bar to order drinks and food - that is against Government advice for safety of customers. You cannot order by app. Most places ensure you have to do this. They allow too many people in at busy times so that social distancing is impossible. Unless they tighten up and run this place professionally, it should be closed as a public health hazard due to the pandemic. The food is appalling and very expensive for tiny portions. Undercooked chips, pizzas that are not really pizzas but are pretty well inedible. Unfortunately I judge this place as a disaster waiting to happen - something needs to be done now.

After a challenging weekend in the New Forest, (not the Forest’s fault) we decided to try and salvage something by having a posh afternoon tea at Burley Manor before returning home. We rang and booked the day before as wifey is both vegetarian and GF, and we wanted to give them a fighting chance. I wish we hadn’t bothered. Let’s start with the parking - there isn’t any if your vehicle is bigger than a small family gadabout. We were in our motorhome, and ended up parking in a field that was open for a separate event. Burley Manor assured us this was fine, and that neither gate (big or small) would be locked. You guessed it - wrong , but we squeezed out thanks to wifey’s skilful driving and steely nerve. Then let’s talk about the perfectly coiffed member of staff who seated us, took our drinks order, sent somebody else over with them, then ignored us for nigh on 45 mins. Finally our afternoon tea arrived and was placed by a disdainful waiter, who when he was confused about who’s was who’s and I pointed out the ramifications of getting it wrong snapped, ‘well I didn’t take the order, did I?’ The food itself was fine, just fine, not excellent or amazing, and certainly not worth £61! When we challenged our disdainful waiter on the horrific wait, he was more than happy to throw his colleagues under the bus, saying that his previous establishment had been much more professional! His excuse was that they had had been overbooked for lunch and had several afternoon tea bookings. They had our phone number, if they couldn’t handle the number of guests, they shouldn’t have taken the booking, or they should have cancelled us. To be honest, the nice man who had accidentally locked us in the field, on his Penny farthing and talked about deer and pigs, but reassured us we would easily get Buzzy the motorhome out was the highlight of the whole debacle, and he didn’t work for Burley Manor!

We arrived for lunch and weren’t sure which way to enter the restaurant. There is a front door but no sign or anything intimating it was the main entrance or whether it was the door for the hotel or the restaurant or both; so we opted for the side gate but still weren’t sure if we were going the correct way. Still not sure whether we had entered the restaurant via the correct route we were seated quickly and my young daughter needed the bathroom: we went to the bathroom leaving my partner at the table and by the time we came back there were still no menus on the table. I did wonder if it was the start of things to come. However, thankfully, I was wrong. Everything after that was seamless. Service was good and food was great. My partner had the burger, I had eggs Benedict and my daughter had pizza. My only personal preference with the eggs Benedict would be to have a thick slice of ham, but as I say, that’s my personal preference. All the food was good quality. We liked the seating arrangements too; tables weren’t squeezed in and there was plenty of space between tables. We’ve already recommended this place to friends and family and will return ourselves in the area.
