Booked a table for a friends birthday. Ordered drinks, tapas and meal. Drinks took soo long to get to the table! Tapas werent great at all. Coleslaw was off,smelt really bad, looked brown and tasted disgusting! Got some fries instead which werent amazing, oil must have been old making them soggy. Waitress was rude, no smile, no thank just plain rude! We were approached by the rude waitress, letting us know we basically had to down our drinks as they were closing! They were standing on top of us waiting for us to finish the drinks that by the way took ages to get to the table. People being sick in the toilet, maybe from how bad the food was!! Not the best experience. Not going back and not recommmending to anyone!!

Best roast dinner in Stortford , excellent service and not expensive, excellent value for money cant fault it , the waiter was really attentive we didn’t have to ask for anything

I had a great experience at host when I visited with my best friend, great cocktail menu music and atmosphere. The staff particularly Tom and a lady called Brianna went above and beyond to make me feel welcome and looked after The music is great had me dancing and having a great time all night the dj has some great music mixes too suit everyone. He's kind professional and likes to make sure everyone is happy and having a good time. I love host and have returned since and will continue to do so especially in the summer

Went for a 4pm Sunday lunch and could not believe how good it was. I ordered a medley of roasts and my friend ordered a chicken roast and couldn’t believe how good our meals were, food plentiful and hot and service excellent especially Elodie and Harriet who were outstanding waiter’s throughout our lunch. The menu prices very reasonable and the restaurant had a good atmosphere. We will be coming back very soon.

We had a really good Sunday lunch. It is extremely popular here and the food is extremely good value. For veggies, they could do with a slightly better option is it is either vegetables or fake chicken which is not that attractive. But we will definitely return and the staff are all lovely

I celebrated my birthday on Sunday with family by having my first Sunday Roast at Host. It didn't disappoint, we all had the beef which was so succulent and all the trimmings were perfect. We ordered an extra side of cauliflower cheese and as my dad said it was the best he had ever had and he is 84, so he has had a few!! Already looking forward to the next one.

Had the most delicious Sunday roast I've had in a long time. I'm very fussy when it comes to eating out for Sunday lunch as it's usually disappointing. Not today though, it really was delicious. Great vegs and potatoes and the meat was beautifully cooked. We had the meat medley and all three meats were lovely. Great service from George and all the team were so welcoming. Highly recommend. Thank you Host for a great afternoon, we will definitely return.

A fab evening, booked for a party of 18 for our works Xmas event - dinner in the restaurant followed by DJ and drinks upstairs in the lounge bar. Midweek lunch with family (son, d-in-law & grandson). Quite an eclectic choice from Brunch (including full English), Steaks, Burgers, Fish through to Tapas. Sundays also has roasts. Three of us had Tapas which was very good and very generous portions for the price. Grandson enjoyed the full English! I would highly recommend Host but check out opening times. They are not open Monday or Tuesday.

Opens the doors at 6pm, booked and filled up quickly after 630pm Friday night away from the little one, never been to Host, but impressed with their menu options for me. Everything is made fresh, drinks interestingly need to be made upstairs most of the time and bought down, hardworking staff! The ambience is great and overall experience (fake fireplace, lighting, general vibe) is chilled. Can imagine it getting rowdy as the night draws on. Top tip is go for the belly pork, that looked amazing, my wife has it and I was envious.

I know it was a Friday but there was really no excuse for the dreadful service, given there were plenty of staff on duty. We had a terrace booking but were assured we could go out on the balcony when a table came free - didn't happen. 4 attempts to get out drinks order right, and even then the white wine was barely chilled and we had to ask for a cooler to get it to drinkable temperature. Meal itself was fine, though unusually for tapas it was all delivered together. But then trying to pay was a task in itself, eventually we had to go to the service area twice to get the bill and then go back there to actually pay it. Was very tempted to walk out since they did not seem keen to take our money

We'd been meaning to try the lunch menu for months but never found the time, which is a shame for having been today we realise how much we've been missing out. £15 for three excellent courses is an absolute bargain for a proper, quality meal. I had risotto, Tuscan chicken and sticky toffee pudding, while 3 my wife had the chili chicken, burger and cheesecake. We'll be back again soon.

Why is this restaurant so quiet? It’s a gem! Very surprised to get a table last minute on a Saturday evening. Lovely ambience & spacing of tables. A warm welcome & excellent service. Starters: Pigeon & scallops. Mains: Chateaubriand & hake fillet. All the dishes were generous, full of flavour & fresh (often not the case with fish). A shared bottle of the Cotes du Rhone was perfect with the Chateaubriand & smooth enough to also enjoy with the fish. Absolutely no awkwardness or “I’ll have to ask Chef” when I requested more of one accompanying vegetable in place of another. No extra charge either, even though I offered to pay the difference. Thank you! & we will come back very soon!

Fabulous roast beef today in the grill. Beautifully cooked, plenty of tender beef. It was surprisingly quiet and we will definitely be back.

Oh my gosh, I do believe I have just eaten the best Sunday roast in a very very long while. The roast beef and all the trimmings were cooked to perfection. Vegetables en pointe. Crispy roasties and an amazing Yorkshire pudding even a surprise pig in blanket. I’m very fussy when it comes to gravy and that was spot on. Huge thank you to Giles for looking after us (love your sense of humour). Compliments to chef, sorry I didn’t get his name. We will be back !!! PS The photo really doesn’t do the food justice.

Visited here today after hearing some good reviews, they were not wrong, the staff were attentive and friendly, the Sunday roast was delicious, it is very hard to get a roast that tastes like home made, but this hit the spot, fabulous Yorkshire puddings and the gravy was very rich but totally delicious. Desserts were just as fabulous, we asked for more ice cream, and this was not a problem. Drinks and food was very reasonable and not overpriced. Will definitely return, a real little gem. Forgot to take any photos, only one of my crumble after I had started eating it.

We arrived for drinks only and after ordering they took 25 mins to arrive. Plenty of staff on the terrace taking orders but clearly nobody to make the drinks. Wasn't particularly busy and lots of tables complaining. This doesn't seem to be a one off...

Had the most delicious Sunday lunch at Host. I really don’t know any other restaurant that serves such an authentic Sunday roast, I had the meat combo; roast chicken, pork and beef, served with an enormous Yorkshire pudding, fabulous roast potatoes and perfectly cooked vegetables....

Went here today for Sunday Lunch Friendly staff. Great food. Great to have a non chain restaurant in the town. Not the cheapest but good food. Only complaint they charged an extra £5 for an extra slice of beef after paying £75 for the meal.

Decided to have a family lunch to celebrate my father in laws birthday who passed last year ..... we sat upstairs and were given menus, we ordered drinks 2 sharing platters 1 steak, 1 veg salad, 1 chicken Caesar salad and 1 king prawn salad drinks came with no problem then the who visit went wrong .... 1 platter arrived together with the mains ..... the table as you can see in the picture below was not big enough for the meals ... the waiter stood there and didn’t know where to put the mains we sent them away and asked that we finished our starter first. The waiter came out and told us that they wouldn’t re cook the mains so we had to have them (there was no where to put the food) I asked to speak to the manager and was told he wasn't there ! He eventually took the mains away, we continued to eat our 1 platter with no side plates, and no napkins, a chef came out and apologised and told us that the mains would be re cooked fresh.Our food came out and looked ok my husbands steak was medium rare even though he had asked for rare which tells me that it was just reheated, the Caesar salad had far to much dressing on it, the vegetarian salad actually had a few pieces of bacon in it ! we had to ask for cutlery from a waiter who was stood up eating his own lunch in view of everyone ..... salt and pepper pots (pictured) was disgraceful .... we waited 15 mins to grab the attention of a waitress to order drinks, who had to come back to us to confirm the four drinks we had ordered as she had forgotten (what’s wrong with a good old pen and piece of paper?) they did not take away our empty glasses we had to ask for them to be removed, while on the table next to us another waitress accidentally spilt a drink over a customer !! We eventually got our drinks as we finished our mains. The decking by our table was poorly maintained and my husband nearly tripped up twice on a broken piece of decking, this could have been so much worse if it was an elderly person. We were charged £110 for this terrible service and to have people smoking cigarettes behind us ruined our family meal remembering our lost one, on the whole these youngsters were poorly trained and clearly not managed ..... we are extremely disappointed and will not be returning ......

First place we've eaten in our new home town, to celebrate our move.Really nice staff who answered every annoying pregnancy related question i had with a smile.The bread basket was lovely, with an optional pesto spread which was a nice change from just butter, I could have eaten that all night alone! Our food was delicious, I had the salmon and my husband had the pork and the cod cheeks to start with. I thought the batter was too heavy when I tried it but thats just a personal thing.We didn't have room for pudding but the menu was good, with lots of options.

So a month later and back again with friends it was faultless we had excellent starters I have monkfish cheeks that were deep-fried and no complaints in the other starters.

As usual, had a fabulous meal at Host tonight. Never fails to deliver- independent restaurant serving fantastic food, cooked to order and impeccable service. A cut way above the majority of others in town. Glad to support our local independent rather than all the dull, vanilla chains!

I am very fussy when it comes to a good steak restaurant, and we have now been here twice! Always excellent - highly recommend.

I held my 40th Birthday party out on the terrace and in the restaurant afterwards. Diana was brilliant at advising on food and drink beforehand and making sure the arrangements were all on track. Our hosts on the night put a table out with Pimm's and Prosecco and kept topping people up. They even arranged for us to go in early because it rained. Everyone commented on what a cool venue it was - the place to be in Stortford!

A real gem of a place which must be one of the only indépendant places left in Stortford.

Most locals will be familiar with Host in the summer for sitting outside the corn exchange in the sun having cold drinks and good tapas, The restaurant below has had a few makeovers over the years (the only poor one being a burger joint) but now it's back to a proper restaurant.

My first visit to Host Grill last night and I was really pleased. A nice welcome, cool and funky decor (loving the green snakeskin chairs). Nice varied wine list with a few unusual items. Service was friendly, efficient, and all in all just right.

My Fiance and I wanted a quick meal one Wednesday somewhere different and had an amazing meal. I had the Rib rye steak with the Hist Steak Sauce which was cooked perfectly plus I had it surf and turfes with king prawns and baby squid. My fiance had Moules Marniere with fries. Possibly the best Mussels we have ever had. The auace was nice and creamy too. We both had the chocolatr mouse for dessert with some lovely juicy Strawberries. The mouse looked homemade and was thick but soft and very choclatey.

This food is absolutely delicious. Could not fault a single thing. Really good portions, couldn’t finish everything but sooo nice. Couldn’t recommend more highly.

Went with family for Sunday dinner. I recommend the roast beef. Nice varied children’s menu as well as food allergies catered for. There’s also an excellent selection of wines!

Having looked on line, we were disappointed to be shown a very limited menu. In the end we both chose steak.

Best Sunday Roast in the area by far. Lovely independent restaurant conveniently located in the middle of town. The Meat Medley is a standout dish, everything was cooked to perfection, the three meats, the veg, the roasties and my particular favourite the enormous Yorkshire pudding. Extensive menu for a Sunday Roast, the biggest problem was choosing a starter. Service was faultless and caters very well to families with children. Will most certainly come back, its now my default Sunday Roast location.

If you like delicious food and a waiter with a cheeky sense of humour (krystov), then this is the pace for you!

It's not often I get excited reading a menu. But at Host, I found it so difficult to chose. It's great that there is a local independent restaurant, that's not just part of a chain in town. As it was a Sunday I went for the meat medley. All 3 meat was cooked to perfection. Moist and tender and the pork had proper crackling, not the deep fried rubbish that most places now put on your plate to look good. Our starter of scallop and squid was delicious. Great choice in the kids menu too. Staff were attentive. Shame it's quieter than it should be. Can highly recommend.

I am once again SO impressed with the quality of food at Host. We just had a delicious dinner and honestly couldn't fault a single thing. Easily on a par with the food in some good London restaurants we have eaten at. Scallops, smoked duck, arrancini and squid to start. Rib eye, lamb, chilli chicken and bavette for main. Perfect wine recommendation from the waiter and really great service. We really are so lucky to have am such a great local independent restaurant! We visited on a weekday for lunch sadly the restaurant was empty and we had the place to ourselves.My grandmother struggled to find something she could eat; my only criticism would be that they should add something neutral to the menu like salmon / lasagne or such to cater for all tastes. They had a £10 3 course menu which was great value but we choose a steak in the end which was amazing. We were very happy and our server couldn't of been more attentive.

Went here today for Sunday Lunch Friendly staff. Great food. Great to have a non chain restaurant in the town. Not the cheapest but very good. We will definitely return. Give it a try.

For Valentine's my husband and I decided to have a meal locally this year and support a restaurant in our town rather than travel into the city like normal and I'm glad to say we weren't disappointed!

Host re-opened last year and it’s great to have it back. It is the only high quality non-chain restaurant in Stortford and food is excellent quality. We went for Saturday lunch where they have a two course for £10 offer which is incredible value. Nice wine list and highly attentive service, and really nice ambience.

Went a few weeks ago and can not fault it.. Sunday roast was amazing! Great food and great service from a guy called Chris. Funny, attentive and professional. Its the best roast in bishops stortford at present!

Came back to host after a while. The sharp interior design of the place was complemented with a warm and friendly welcome from Chris, our waiter for the afternoon. Service was attentive, kind and charming.

Had a wonderful meal with friends at the recently re-opened Host Grill. The Hatfield Forest venison was the best venison I have ever had, and my friends thought that the gnocchi was the perfect winter comfort food. There is also a good selection of fresh and interesting desserts. I would also recommend giving their dessert wine a try alongside your pudding! The service was absolutely excellent - such friendly and helpful staff who made sure everything was just right and never kept us waiting. Very much looking forward to our next visit already...

What a lovely dinner we had. The bread and olives so tasty as a starter. The steak i had was absolutely delicious with pepper corn sauce which was the best I've ever had. Sunday lunch was unbelievable. Can’t believe this place isn’t packed. We booked a family meal here for a quiet birthday. Portions were enormous & suited a mix of meat lovers, vegetarians & fussy kids, absolutely loved it, staff were friendly & efficient & really made it a special occasion, but the food is so good, we will be back way before the next occasion!

I came here for Sunday lunch with my family. They have a lovely selection of a beef, chicken, and pork roast, or a medley of all three. I had the medley and it was delicious. Try the chilli chicken-it is heaven! Host Grill are known for their outside catering, particularly weddings, but word needs to get out about their restaurant. They also have a terrace for people watching, and a nightclub above this, which I had a sneaky peak at for a future birthday bash, and that looks very trendy too. Definitely worth a visit.

Last went May 2016 before it closed. So disappointed as our restaurant of choice for special occasions. Now it has just re-opened so we had to return.

Went for a quick lunch on the terrace, we both had burgers but thought it was odd that they did not come with chips? Although the burgers themselves did taste lovely. Staff didn't really care, just standing round chatting all the time.

Visited one weekend evening about 8pm having looked along the high street at all the pizza chains and decided this place looked something different and found the place empty. It lacked atmosphere. The kitchen staff came in and out the restaurant to go outside. The waiting staff were very average and a dish was forgotten. The candle blew out and no one came to relight it or even notice it had gone out. The front door was wide open and I had the music drowned out by the cars on the road outside. The Male toilet urinal was blocked and the sink was too.

Wondering round Bishops Stortford looking for something nice to eat and preferably not a chain and found this place. Nobody else in when we arrived at about 18.15, so got shown straight to a table. I had the crispy chicken to start, which was ok, then a nice bavette steak, which was very flavoursome. My colleagues enjoyed the desserts. Service was friendly and efficient. Reasonable value.

A really pleasant place to while away a Saturday lunch/early afternoon on the terrace but the staff are less than attentive and the food is average. Menu has no mention of sides, so it is only on asking that you become aware that the burger main is just that - not even a garnish! So we ordered a portion of fries. Next time maybe we’ll just have a drink and visit one of the many alternatives instead.

The quality of the food and it's presentation was absolutely fantastic. A pleasant, comfortable restaurant serving good food (hot when it's supposed to be hot rather than lukewarm for instance) and not rushed or hurried. The service was excellently provided by professional staff, something that I feel is becoming as rare as hens teeth nowadays, who were polite, efficient and able to welcome one or two last minute guests with a gracious smile................priceless!! I would definitely recommend Host to anyone, we will certainly be going the again.

We visited here for a quick drink but decided to have some Tapas. The food arrived and we were pleasantly surprised at the amount of different choices we had. We spent a pleasant couple of hours on the terrace relaxing in the sun. A really nice relaxed vibe here.
