Horton Inn in East Dorset

They say they have vegan options. There was one. A Thai vegetable curry, I was really looking forward to it but what a let down. The “curry” was a spoonful of vegetables ( cabbage, onion, mushroom, pepper and mange tout) in a watery milky coloured “soup” this was accompanied by a spray of yellow rice and a warmed soggy Naan bread. The only flavour in the vegetables was chilli, I didn’t get any hint of lemongrass or any of the other spices. There was no protein just this spoonful of vegetables and two portions of carbohydrates. Those who had the roast beef had more vegetables in their plates than I had in the Thai Vegetable curry. I won’t be going back

My son has moved into the area and was recommended we use the Horton inn hotel After normally staying in ringwood I must admit I thoroughly enjoyed my stay Staff very welcoming Room was very Nice Food was excellent Overall atmosphere was brilliant Cannot fault my stay at all I will definitely be returning

We went hear on a Saturday for lunch. I used to come regularly a long time ago and assumed it would still be the same quality. Unfortunately the food was awful. I've never complained or returned a meal before but I ordered the bacon and brie ciabatta and when it arrived it was just in a bun and it was freezing cold and the bacon was pale pink and white. I returned it purely for the fact it was a health hazard. The staff were polite and took it of my bill but I could tell as we left they didn't seem to understand why I had returned it and this was worrying as they will probably carry on providing this for other people wh Could end up very ill. My partner ordered the chicken burger which was £16 and it was reheated frozen chicken and so burnt the waitress gave it to my vegetarian daughter thinking it was the vegetarian option. Its such a shame as it used to be lovely here and you could tell the staff were very stressed and unhappy hence why I only returned the uncooked meal. We just paid for the rest and left. It's such a shame as it could be a lovely place to eat like the Lamb inn in Christchurch which is lovely fresh cooked food and cheaper.

Arranged for dinner out tonight for me and my wife, booked online giving details and my phone number. Drove 40 minutes to get there to be told the kitchen was closed for at least an hour due to the amount of orders coming in at once. On looking at the outside party which consisted of about 12 people we can only assume the chef had a complete hissy fit about him being so busy and freaked out. Great job let the chef run your business and drive it into the ground. You could feel for the staff but a bit of attention to customer service would have meant a call to the bookings that were already made and we wouldn’t have had to drive for 40min All in all though we decided we dodged a bullet as a chef that can’t handle a table of 12 ish would have only served us with poor quality food

Had a lovely impromptu lunch here. The pub has a lovely decor inside but we sat outside. There was plenty of tables with shade if needed. Lovely lunch and friendly staff.

Fancied a family lunch out this Thursday. Got to the Horton Inn, grabbed a table and I went to the bar to order to be told “no food today, our Chef has gone sick”. I appreciate that finding staff cover at very short notice might be very difficult, but there were boards outside advertising food, and the Facebook page didn’t say anything about the kitchen being closed. I was surprised that they weren’t able to offer snacks or sandwiches. Very disappointed and feel more should have been done to let patrons know before they got out of their cars.

After having driven by The Horton Inn for many years without an opportunity to stop, the chance came up yesterday. Upon entering the bar area, I was greeted by a smiling barmaid ( Mia ) who asked what I like. I requested a dimpled handle ( no problem there ) and Timothy Taylor "Boltmaker". I thoroughly enjoyed my pint, which was the perfect temperature at a reasonable price. A good ambience was found. As I departed through the garden, I spoke to Kerry, who was having a general clear up and interacting with customers, a good sign. In conclusion, I had a lovely time and considering I live fairly close, I will return. Thank you.

Came here for a sunday lunch following a lovely weekend away and will definitely be returning! Food was lovely, staff couldn’t be more attentive, couldn’t recommend enough. A very reasonable price for an all around amazing service!!!

Firstly on arrival at the restaurant we were told our two favourite dishes were not available ( Fish and Duck ) We sat down ordered to drinks and food. Three of us chose Ringwood Forty Niner to drink. It was "off", like vinegar. We had these replaced by a decent Madri lager. Our meals arrived, Four of us had ordered the "Horton Burger" which I found excellent, flavoursome and the best burger I have had in a long time. Unfortunately, my brother-in-law's burger for some reason was overcooked and like a biscuit, so left half of it. Some excellent points and some bad points. Inconsistent is the word. Such a shame as some aspects of the meal were excellent.

Quite disappointed with the food. Thai veg curry - baby corn, onions and yesterday’s broccoli, not very appertising. A few had steak - very fatty. Not cheap.

Rang up before going , but didn't have to book ,maybe it was because it was a Tuesday. Lovely welcome, by the staff. The menu wasn't too extensive, but they offered a few, good ,options. We didn't have to wait too long,When our food arrives it was hot and absolutely delicious Thank you!

We visited this very nice place on a glorious day. The staff are personable and friendly, setvice adequate. We ordered a lunch each. The ciabattas were very tasty and we enjoyed them. We both ordered a side (extra) of chips. The chips came in ramekins. See pic. I think that this was pretty poor, a very small serving each.

Lovely staff and lovely food. The pub itself has a great range. We had dinner in the garden which was spacious and tidy. Will definitely be back again soon, thank you!

We arrived Friday for a family wedding near by, we upgraded to the premium room, it was a lovely very size so was the bathroom. Our room was facing the main room, but it didn’t phase us, the hotel is on a crossroads so will be noisy the room was equipped with everything you needed coffee tea hot choc biscuits etc the bathroom had soap shampoo etc which was a nice touch room had dressing gowns also if you wanted to use them, downfall were the mattresses, they are passed their sell by date but other than that room was great, we had food on the Friday night and breakfast both morning food outstanding, the staff are really polite and helpful, Fran the land lady made us chuckle she’s so dry and very witty and the lady serving brekkie was like lovely, only downside if we had to moan were chairs inside outside need tightening, we had a lovely weekend and if we were to come back to the area we would definitely come back to the Horton

Absolutely DREADFUL!!!! The food was very disappointing and the manageress was extremely rude. No offer of an apology and biligerant. Her response to our polite complaints was to tell us ‘it’s what it says on the packet!!’ I had ordered a vegetarian wellington and instead was served a really poor roast lunch with falafels!!!!! The young waiting staff were so sweet and considerate they really did put the manageress to shame. Her behaviour and disregard was a greater disappointment than the food!!! We paid for our drinks and the items that were edible. A huge disappointment.

We went here with a view that it looked lovely having been last several times. Also out friends had said it used to be good. Unfortunately, this turned out not to be the case and the offering was not the best Staffing was far to lean and having to wait for service for a drink an the bill at the end, just topped it for us. Won't be going back here and I wouldn't recommend it to anyone. Sorry, such a great location, let down by food and service.

Spur of the moment, popped in for a drink and an early evening meal. Sat outside, surprisingly quiet considering the location on a busy cross roads. Friendly staff and really good food! Can recommend the fish and chips, super posh. We have been meaning to stop in here before but never had time to stop. Most impressed. We will definitely be back :)

Stayed for two nights, breakfast was good. Kitchen closes pretty early so make sure to check if it will be open when you arrive. Staff were wonderful- Fran thank you!

Spent a couple nights in a twin en-suite for bed and breakfast. Good sized room. Clean and well equipped. Excellent cooked breakfast. Chose Horton Inn as it is well placed to get to the New Forest without having to pay the earth. Had evening meal on both days. Food good but speed of service less so. Staff very friendly and most importantly for us….they love dogs. Will definitely return.

Lovely clean inviting pub , staff very friendly helpful and attentive . Starter and main meals were lovely with good size portions. The only downside is the deserts which are lovely need to be cheaper or bigger as not value for money. But the rest of the evening was lovely so well worth a visit

I visited the Horton Inn earlier this month with my wife and my mother. We had driven past on many occasions but had not ventured in. My wife is diagnosed as Coeliac so we spoke with the member of staff when ordering our food. We were assured that the kitchen could produce gluten free meals. The meal arrived and was ok. When we got home my wife was violently ill. This could not have been caused by a slight cross contamination it was caused by my wife being given a large quantity of gluten. When my wife recovered she emailed Horton Inn and advised of our experience. Sadly she has not received a response. This is very disappointing. If you are Coeliac or know someone who is please avoid the Horton Inn.

Scruffy, in need of updating.Staff all young very nice and helpful. Pretty location. Please keep dogs to the bar area,ruined the evening with barking in the restaurant.

What a disappointing pub which is such as a shame when it has soo much potential.. Called in to have a bite to eat - got shown to a table but then was ignored - another table came in and they got served and got asked what they wanted to drink immediately, had to ask twice for some drinks and even then didn't get the drinks we ordered - unfortunately it looks like they employee weekend staff that are not familiar with the drinks but how difficult is it to get an orange juice and lemonade wrong, obviously quite easily.!!! The same girl then served another adjacent take and managed to spill a large glass of wine everywhere, yes an accident but instead of putting the wine on a tray it would have been easier to carry it. The wine went everywhere, all over our clothes and even though the staff tried to clear it all up they made a very poor job - we were told that in compensation of the red wine on our clothes they would offer our lunch free of charge - big deal when it was 2 sandwiches and 2 soft drinks vs £100 of clothes. I will not be returning..

We had roast beef. It was ok. It was plated up so not a carvery. Service was good, friendly staff, Clean pub & Nice garden. They weren't busy but ran out of stuff extremely quickly. Our order arrived quickly.

We spent the afternoon in Poole and had planned to have dinner there, but it was too busy everywhere. Took a detour on the way home to Fleet and drove past this place. Looks nice from the outside, ample gravel car park. A few tables out front ,with families enjoying the sunshine, a little dated on the inside.Friendly guy behind the bar, who took our order, lots of tables free. Simple pub grub menu, nothing fancy. We ordered a hunters chicken and two steaks. Arrived 15 minutes later, tasted fine, will compare it to a Beefeater. Peas were gross, salad was pleasant.Did not stop for dessert or coffee as it was cold and I wanted to leaveOnly gripe would be children running from the tables, out front through the restaurant to the doors at the back. They kept opening the doors and running off leaving us, as I mentioned cold We did close it, but gave up. Lovely black labrador roaming around, but it did pee on the fence at the back, too close to the outside tables. Unavoidable I imagine not great with the sun shining. Just as well it didn't poop!Not the most exciting meal, but nice for a drink.

Visited here for a family lunch, bar staff were very welcoming and helpful. Menu was spot on with a good choice of good pub grub rather than posh nonsense which most places seem to do nowadays. Child and dog friendly too which made for a very enjoyable experience. Definitely be visiting again.

A lovely looking spot to stop for a drink in this hot weather.Nab a table and order a couple of drinks. Having to listen to the barman moaning to a waitress isn't a good start. The place looks clean and the waitresses are friendly. Good parking facilities. The downside was the pub dog taking a by a table ,and in this current heat isn't great. Also having a wee right by a clump of tables.Why didn't I tell someone you may ask. As staff were walking by it I thought ,you can't miss the thing.Also having to hear Dennis!! Dennisss!!!, come here, go inside... from the older waitress (which the dog paid no attention to) was very irritating. And the fact that the dog annoyed a couple with their dog to such an extent that it went for it and barked. You could see their annoyances, and made for an uncomfortable atmosphere. Shame really.

Visited to try to enlarge our list of restaurants which we could recommend to friends. It did not achieve that. The large car-park is rough and ready, not tarmaced. There are not any dedicated disabled spaces.The staff are pleasant and willing.The menu was uninspiring. We chose the lamb shank with vegetables for £12 each. Nothing wrong with it just no better that we have at home.

Went for lunch with friends very nicely set out and clean. Staff friendly and good choice on the menu especially vegetarian menu. All food well presented and tasty and good value. Would definitely recommend.

We had an over night stay here, Staff very friendly, evening food was ok, the room clean, unfortunately for us we had the only room without an on suite bathroom, so we had to go down the other end of the hall to use the toilet etc which wasn’t great in the middle of the night it was open so anyone could also use it. It reminded me of a hospital bathroom so I didn’t have a shower! The beds were uncomfortable for both of us staying. Breakfast again was ok good selection. Apart from beds and bathroom it was an enjoyable stay. I would recommend it.

We had a lovely stay at the Horton Inn this Easter weekend. The rooms are clean and spacious and the staff are friendly and welcoming. Would definitely stay here again.

We popped in for lunch as we were passing. Good value food quickly prepared we went for the smaller portion which we found was about the right amount for us. Staff were friendly. It was very quiet in there when we visited.

Stopped off for lunch here as it was close to where we were heading, lots of parking available which was good. The place is obviously going through refurbishment, which was not too much of a problem, but it was a little chilly where we were sitting. The staff were really friendly, welcoming and accommodating, the food was very good, and reasonably priced,there were eight of us and no complaints, would definitely recommend a visit if you are in the area.

Was part of a group of friends having lunch here a few weeks ago. Lovely spacious room which was nice and bright too. The food was lovely, generous portion sizes at a reasonable price. Service could have been a little faster, but to be fair it was quite busy.

We ate at the Horton inn for a big family get together, 20 of us, 9 of them children. We had visited this place several years ago I’m assuming previous owners and had a bad expierence but decided to give it another go as it always looked busy when we drove past more recently.

Chose Warminster venison faggots with horseradish mash, roasted root veg & gravy.

This is our 4th food visit and I must say it’s fabulous. Proper home cooked food. Portions are huge and lots of choice. Can definitely recommend the specials especially the homemade pies. Warm and cozy bar and great service.

Drove past here on a day out for anniversary. Hadnt planned where we were going to eat and a timely stomach growl had us making a quick turn around in the car. Had roast pork from Sunday roast menu and it was delicious! Veg cooked to perfection (ie warm but still crunchy) and lots of meat. The whole place was dog friendly so could bring doggo in from the car. We'll be back.

My boyfriend and I have just returned from a wonderful weekend in Wimborne. We have to say staying at The Horton Inn was an absolutely pleasure and we feel we have stumbled across a true gem. The hotel rooms are newly furnished and have a understated and warm country feel. The bed and covers were extremely comfortable, no noise from the main road, and reasonable size. There was a small issue with the shower but we were instantly provided with an alternative and fairly compensated for the trouble of just walking down the hall.

We have visited the Horton Inn many times over the past few years and we have to say the new Landlady has turned it around!!! The ambience, the food, the lovely staff made it a fantastic experience!! It’s obviously very popular with both locals and visitors and we will definitely be back for the coming up music events!! Loved it!!

Oh dear. We stopped in for a precious drink without kids only to be served a white wine spritzer with lemonade (there was no alternative offered at the time) and a pint of San Miguel that was obviously not right. Didn’t complain to management because the responses to other reviews were fairly aggressive and didn’t want a confrontation.

This place is awful in every way, came for a drink and wanted some food. The landlady who is possibly the worst I have ever met Was rude and didn’t have a clue. Would rather have stevie wonder running it. Had a menu only nothing to be on it available on it, beer was off, maybe a one off but I don’t think it was. To the young landlady you need to get a grip and treat customers right

As we have two classic cars we on occasion like to drive to a local country pub for a drink

We called in to the Horton Inn today for a Bank Holiday drink. We got our first drink in reasonable time. However, when we went to get our second drink, there was a young girl serving in the other bar who when asked when we were going to get served, showed little interest. The young barman we were told was in the kitchen and was then on the telephone meaning that around half a dozen of us were kept waiting for a drink. After about 10 minutes and being the customers waiting longest, we gave up and left the pub. Very disappointing because on our last trip the pub appeared to be on the up under it’s new management but not today.

We’ve lived in the area for over 10 years and driven past so many times but only once we heard it had recently been taken over and was worth a try did we give it a go!

We spent a Saturday night at Horton Inn. The staff were extremely friendly and welcoming. We had a lovely lunch in the garden. We needed a taxi to take us to a party the manager tried lots of different taxi cabs for us. He went above and beyond even offering to drive us to the party venue to collect our car the next day. Breakfast was lovely. I really enjoyed our stay and would highly recommend this Inn.

Visited let afternoon on a Sunday. Friends Anniversary when on holidays in Wareham. Popped in on just a whim when out and about. Roast was amazing totally delicious. Gravy was so tasty. Roasted veg, lovely. Service was spot on the staff were lovely. Had plenty of space to choose a quiet spot. Desert was also great. Prices were reasonable. Best roast in a long time.

Experience from start to finish was appalling!

Had a lovely meal advertised as Home cooked food. Upon paying and complementing the chef he told us he was surprised we enjoyed it as it was boil in the bag bought from Lidl. Not what you want to hear!

Fantastic service from Shelley, Tom,Emily and Tia really tasty roast dinner definitely recommend and we will return soon. Succulent meat lots of meat and super family friendly.

Staff went above and beyond the call of duty this Tuesday, I found myself stranded after having an accident waiting for recovery. Staff gave us a phone to call recovery and offered us a place to stay if we couldn't get back. While we were waiting we had to try the food. I would highly recommend the veggie pasty. Again a huge thank you to the staff for helping my partner and I out on Tuesday! Very helpful and friendly!
