Horse Shoe Bar in Glasgow City

This is your quintessential Glasgow pub. It's big. It's noisy. It's packed with happy patrons all hours of the day. There are lots of servers behind the bar. They will pour your Guinness perfectly for you. This place has been around for a long time & they ain't messing with a successful formula.

Sorry can’t remember the staff names but have been here loads of times and always been treated very well by all staff. Other city centre pubs should copy your example. We were here yesterday with friend doing the Glasgow city mystery guide book, which is also excellent. We were in around 1pm and asked about lunch, they had a sandwich/ drink deal for £7.95. Great value we had fish finger baguettes and Philly cheese steak baguettes with glasses of wine and pints Food was very tasty, well presented and great value. Each baguette was served with a choice of chips, curly fries or salad. The barman and waitress could not have been nicer. Keep up the great work in old of Glasgows best pubs.

Love this place, amazing vibe and a true Glasgow institution and a must do destination when planning a night out staff are fab especially Jack..what a rock star!!!!! And Reanne...to name just two....you've gotta go if you haven't already

Had my retirement, celebrating with my wonderful work mates in the Horseshoe Bar. Michael the General Manager and all his fantastic staff, went up and beyond in their very friendly and attentiveness, in making our day, a night to remember. Thank you to Michael and all his wonderful staff.

We went in to watch the Scotland Greece game, it was very busy with the match on but we managed to get a seat . Plenty of screens, a nice city centre pub, nice drinks and a great atmosphere.

Came in for a couple of drinks after work, had a lovely chat with one of the young bartenders Stewart, he really helped to lift the mood of the evening

Great place defo place to go in Glasgow, karaoke is a must on everyday of the week and downstairs bar is packed full of all kind of characters

The manager was exceptionally unpleasant and unprofessional, poorly handled booking, door staff also challenged a non drinker telling her she had too much to drink. The toilets are absolutely stinking and in dire need of a refresh. Food was bang average.

Gran bar de karaoke! Está ocupado todas las noches, pero si disfrutas de una canción y suena bien, esta es una gran noche de fiesta. Visité anoche (martes) con una multitud del trabajo y estaba realmente impresionado con el DJ de karaoke que se aseguró de que todos sonaran lo mejor posible. Un pub tradicional que sirve cerveza decente. El precio de una pinta era razonable también para una ubicación en el centro de la ciudad Visitamos en una noche de mitad de semana y disfrutamos del ambiente en el bar de la planta baja. Me gustaría visitar aquí de nuevo

Reserva hecha para una despedida de soltera semanas antes de 6 pm - 12 pm, depósito pagado y confirmado noche antes por correo electrónico y cuando llegamos al bar alrededor de las 7 pm nos avisaron que llegamos tarde y la reserva había sido regalada. Depósito fue devuelto, pero en ningún momento se nos advirtió que teníamos que estar allí para una cierta hora. ¡Absolutamente impactante! Extremadamente decepcionado y NUNCA recomendará Horseshoe Bar 😡

Los porteros comentaron sobre mi peso y luego me negaron la entrada también rechazaron a mi amigo, ya que estaba tomado de la mano de su compañero LGBTQ evitar a toda costa! También cualquier persona paranoica sobre su peso, EVITAR! Abusadores totales.

Personal de Horseshoe, sigue borrando mis reseñas de 2021, pero enfermo sigue publicando porque tus porteros deberían estar en prisión por lo que están haciendo a los clientes. Una chica incluso ha publicado al respecto en tiktok que se ha vuelto viral. Asqueroso.

smashing food had a good time, had good food and drink, would definetly be back and karaoke was a blast. karaoke on all week and bar has sport on all the time

Traditional old boozer that felt like it's probably seen it all over the years. Had a happy swift pint in here. It was early evening, so it was relatively quiet. We enjoyed it.

We all loved our food at The Horseshoe Bar. Great deal of two main courses for around £11. There were 3 of us so we ordered a spare Mac and cheese with garlic bread which we shared . My fish and chips was delicious and a big portion. The waitress was really lovely ! The desserts sounded lovely but we were completely full ! (The only small point for improvement was the donner sauce could be served in a separate bowl ) Will definitely be back here again ! Great “pub” food !!

Refused entry for wearing cargo trousers as it’s against the dress code. Absolutely ridiculous considering I wore the same trousers in January and got in.

The only bar in Glasgow where the door staff will make you feel less safe. Would not recommend any female visit here, abhorrent behaviour.

Went with work colleagues, told upstairs was full for them to let people in after us. Only letting one person at he toilet at a time - only reason I was let to the toilet was because I was on my period - which I shouldn’t have to disclose or share. RUDE bouncers with an absolute God complex who said to me ‘Do you think you’re better than me?’ - no I’m just trying to use the bathroom. Would not waste my time attempting to get in. They need bouncers who have manners and who are professional.

Really sad experience. Met one of my best/longest serving friends for a catchup tonight. Really poor service from your Bar Manager, such a shame for a well-known Glasgow institution known for a lot (lot) better. Please change your game back and get known for better. I really mean that, please.

Horrible bouncers. Got told I couldn't go upstairs to use the toilet at the same time as my SISTER. Bouncer said I had to wait outside, I asked if I can wait inside he said no, when I asked why he said 'because I told you so.' I stood outside but it was absolutely freezing so asked if I can go get my jacket, he told me no and told me I was to wait outside until she came back, I said it was freezing so I was going to get my jacket. I went back inside and stood literally at the front door where he could clearly see me standing waiting. He then proceeds to come up to me and tell me to go get my jacket so I can wait outside. I said to him can I just wait here until she comes back. He was very persistent to the point he had me in tears. I went over to my table where my mum and other sister were sitting and he actually followed me over. He tried to say he didn't mean to upset me but said I was giving him cheek. At this point I couldn't be bothered even arguing so just took my jacket and left. We were outside waiting on my other sister so we could leave. It got to the point he was arguing with me AGAIN telling me I was in the wrong. Definitely will not be back, I am not a confrontational person and have never experienced anything like this in my life.

Great servive from Kyle at the bar, was so attentive and kind, great karaoke man too, drinks were tasty and songs were good overall

Was in to watch the football and have a few drinks, at half time we were going to move upstairs so we could listen to music. Bouncer told us it was full so decided to finish our drinks and leave. My friend and I went to use the bathroom before we went and we were told one at a time which I honestly thought was a joke at first as no bouncer was upstairs enforcing this rule to any other person in the building. We were also told the bouncer wouldn’t know if the venue was fully booked or not. Was a weird experience from the bouncers and the upstairs room was half empty, probably wouldn’t go back unless the door staff changed

I went here on a Saturday with my mum at 4.30 and was told that you couldn’t get in before 7 unless you had a booking for food. We asked if they’d be letting people in at 7 and the bouncer said they would and to come back. So we went elsewhere and had a couple of drinks then came back at 6.50 to be told by another bouncer that it was full and they weren’t letting anyone in. The bouncer didn’t even look at us when we walked up - just looked past us and said ‘full’. I explained we’d been told they only let people in for food until 7 and to come back then but he just repeated himself and said ‘full’. Fair enough if they were full but he was so arrogant and rude for no reason. And I also don’t know how they could possibly be full when apparently it was only people eating until 7 - so there must have been standing room. I’ve had other people saying similar happened to them. Seems like the bouncers are on a power trip. Also I was in there the Sunday before and it was £12.40 for two vodkas and a small bottle of Diet Coke so it’s a rip off anyway, even for town.

went tonight thursday evening 7th march with my daughter at 7.30pm bouncers at the door asked us did we have a booking i said no refused us entry said we have to book online 6 weeks in advance ? went online live feed said horse shoe bar was not busy if you book for two people online it wont take your booking 4 people only do if you are a couple you have no chance to get in groups of 4 only very strange we were there 3 weeks ago on thursday got in no problem only about 20 people in was dead ? so why are the bouncers on the door sending people away during week not peak time strange

This place is actually a decent place the problem is THE BOUNCERS. They are rude and are bullies. I have never experienced behaviour like this.

Obviously your first concern is whether they do a good range of drinks. The simple answer to that is a resounding yes! This is a pub full of character, with an unusual bar, which is worth a wander round.

absolutely horrendous bouncers. treated me a 55 year old woman horrendously, grabbing me and throwing me into the street just for asking why i could not go to upstairs to the toilet. no idea why they are allowed to behave like this

Arrived at the horseshoe bar sober, the three males got in and said the rest of our work shift would come in later (5 mins) The rest of our shift (two men one woman) arrived) and got told no. I came downstairs to ask why they couldn’t join us and the 19 year old bouncer said because of MY attitude even though they’d already came to get in themselves. The youngest of the three personal being 41. I was already upstairs inside the premise where my friends tried to get in the first time and got rejected. Not a sip of alcohol between them. Needs looked at before people from Falkirk/Edinburgh come through for a celebration.

The security staff and management were rude and intimidating. Definitely do not recommend. Don’t waste your money ok booking.

Door staff okay just doing their job, all staff inside were so rude and abrupt, zero customer service skills ruined the full vibe of the place,2 of the younger boys working on the bar were nice enough, bouncer inside also very rude and pushed me out the way to get past when he could have easily just asked me to move out his way, food and entertainment were very good and definitely saved the night, definitely wouldn't come back or recommend to anyone else

Regularly visit this bar, when in Glasgow and it ticks all the boxes. However when water (I hope it was just water) starts raining down on customers and the paper on the ceiling is bubbling and peeling. That the staff would be more proactive. Reported twice to bar staff, zero action / investigation happened. Hopefully the door staff may have shown more interest when reported on way out.

Absolutely disgusting bouncer trying to throw you out before you’d finished your drink, I was there with my daughter and had just ordered our second drink then bouncers told us we had to get out as they were closed and if we didn’t they would call the police. This was after the bar stay telling us we still had 15 minutes. I am a 56 year old woman and was definitely not intimidated by these excuses for men however I really think someone should look into how they got their SIA licence and it should be revoked. Disgusting way to run a business and by the rest of the reviews seems I’m not the only one that thinks this

Absolute joke of a place! The bar manager is an obnoxious woman, foul mouthed and paranoid ‘working’ behind the bar. Please don’t go as she seems to be discriminative, and verbally offensive!

I went for lunch. Really cool old school boozer. Lots of character and history. I had a chicken, bacon burger and a pinto of Guinness for a tenner. Chips were pure crispy and the burger was so tasty. Good value foronly in the town. I'd highly recommend. Staff nice and plenty of screens if you need to watch any sport for coupons. 👌

What a despicable Manageress. Ordering my second cider of the day I politely asked if it could be served in a beer-type glass, "Best, Bellhaven, lager" type glass as opposed to the tall and thin glass that Strongbow cider offers. (new straight glasses are available but the Horseshoe doesn't do them either. She replied that they only have tall glasses for all beers yet looking around the bar were people with beer in straight glasses. I explained why I don't like the tall glasses and was now told, "if ye ur gonna staun there discussing glasses then ye kin leave the pub coz am no serving ye" Shocked and overcome that a simple request was denied, I asked a barman that was close by, the same question. Midway through the question, the same Manageress comes stomping up, madness and rage showing on her face. She now comments, "Whit ur ye asking him about? I'm the Manageress" and proceeds to go on another rant about being not willing to serve me. A few unpolite words came from her mouth and the only reply was to tell her, "Freck Off" and we left the pub. In all my years of drinking in what is normally a great bar, I was deeply saddened and disgusted to be treated in such a manner. If this is the way that ageism and discrimination are slowly creeping into society then I will certainly not be back at the Horseshoe. Their loss, not mine.

Place would be a better place if they sorted out security and bouncers on door. Never welcoming, horrible attitude. Only now let you in if have booking always say it’s too busy when has been dead. Got huckled from security for spilling a drink after spending lots of money. Table of 8, 4 hours drinking, bottle bought. Drink spilled and huckled out. Place is a shambles won’t be back not a nice place to drink anymore!

Entiendo que todos vivimos en tiempos difíciles y restringidos, pero hay personas que posiblemente se sientan insatisfechas con su suerte en la vida y que parecen deleitarse con los poderes y la autoridad que las circunstancias les han otorgado. Las personas tienen una larga memoria y buena suerte para las empresas que han tratado a sus clientes de una manera tan despreciable en el futuro.

Went in for a couple of drinks before dinner. Service was reasonably quick. Nothing about the pub was remarkable. It was quite busy (it was a Saturday night) and it had a few tv screens showing football.

The Horseshoe Bar es una institución de Glasgow y, como definitivamente cumple con los criterios de ser un pub tradicional a la antigua, me queda perfectamente bien.Debido a la pandemia actual, debe informar a la persona en la puerta, quien tomará los detalles del rastreo de contactos y le explicará las reglas de entrada. Una vez dentro, nos llevaron a una mesa y una camarera tomó nuestro pedido y nos trajo nuestras bebidas.Todos seguían claramente las reglas de distanciamiento seguro y nos sentimos muy relajados durante nuestra visita. Ah, ¡y el Tennent's fue perfecto!He visto críticas anteriores sobre porteros desagradables y supongo que esto tenía que ver con la entrada (¡o no!) Al bar Karaoke. Todo lo que puedo decir es que el tipo que se ocupa de nuestra entrada al pub principal fue encantador.

We were taken to lunch at the Horseshoe Bar and so pleased that we were. The whisky was good as was the beer. Lunch was typical pub food. We had a fun time in a bar with great atmosphere.

Could be a brilliant karaoke bar but the "men" on the door will only let you in if you are a youngster with a short skirt! Myself and my husband were refused entry for no reason, but young women wearing short skirts were allowed in after we were refused. We only managed to sneak in when the "men" on the door were physically laying into a poor guy, again unjustified. Will go elsewhere next time. It's a shame this establishment employs such vicious people!

El tipo en cuestión, un superintendente de la policía de Strathclyde, había tomado cerveza azul esa noche cuando estaba en el turno de la mañana del domingo. Los payasos en la puerta eran abusivos, groseros arrogantes y todo eso es malo con el manejo de la puerta. Como se puede ver en otras críticas, esto es algo normal y no se puede hacer nada bueno en el bar de herradura. Si continúan así, estoy seguro de que este ícono de un pub en Glasgow se cerrará. So, tourists and new visitors to all things good in Glasgow. Let me tell you of my experience at The Horseshoe bar in Glasgow. Never, EVER have I been treated the way I was treated last evening in what is reputedly Glasgow’s premier spot for fun and Karaoke. It would appear that in order to gain admittance you have to be below a certain age that is determined on the spot and is also disputed on the spot by unregistered doormen who cannot agree between themselves in front of customers who should be admitted and who should not. I say unregistered because they displayed no visible registration or ID and refused to identify themselves truthfully when asked. So Manager Susan, who seemed a bit unsure of her name and John Johnston (?) decided that three ladies approaching their half century were not to be admitted while allowing entry to two very much younger customers signifies perhaps that their customer relations and discriminative selection process needs to be placed under advisement. Let’s not forget that the doormen’s command of the English (Scottish) language really does not need to include reference to the size or capabilities of the customers husbands manhood. The hand gestures offered by Mr Johnston (?) to emphasis his point were vulgar and crass in the least. Under the Private Security Industry Act of 2001, licensing individuals as doormen should ensure that doormen are fit and proper persons. Whether or not these persons are licensed with the SIA, the blame lands solely with the owner and management of this establishment. Shame on you Horseshoe Bar! You have done Glasgow and it’s reputation for hospitality a disservice.Please also note that there are multiple pages for the Horse Shoe bar although both pages reference the bar and restaurant. Since we didn’t get in I cannot comment on the food. Also note that we did attempt to contact the manager (this time Steve?) by phone who assured us several times that there was standing room upstairs. When we brought up the rudeness of the doormen he hung up.

Veramente un gran bel Pub con il bancone più lungo del mondo...gente di tutte l'età in un ambiente spettacoloso.Al piano di sopra ci si può anche mangiare ma merita prenotare.Da andarci sicuramente.

Been to this pub several times and it is always really busy to the point you can hardly move. It has fab singers and a great atmosphere. Understandably they have doormen to watch the numbers but they are very rude and pick and choose who gets into the pub. There attitude stinks and it would put me of going back to the pub. They talk down to people and really think they are well above you. Defo need lessons in basic politeness

This pub's reputation is well earned.Good sized establishment that is packed every weekend. Everyone in here is after a good night so the vibes are always brilliant. That said, a better turn over at the bar would definitely make the difference - service is never great yet there is always time for people walking around thrusting a tray of Jagerbombs under your nose???Toilets are always a down side. Because of how busy the place always is its somewhere to avoid due to the lack of cleanliness.Otherwise, you are guaranteed to enjoy yourself here!

We were out for lunch and went to a couple of pubs that had no life in them. I suggested to my husband to go to the horseshoe and so glad we did. It was jumping and a really good atmosphere even at 6pm. It does take ages to get served but it’s really busy so expect thatPeople were dancing in the queue whenever someone was singing which I thought was brill. Drinks reasonably priced too. We left just after half 9 only because we have 2 dogs otherwise we would have stayed all night

Enjoyed our lunchtime stop at The Horseshoes. Nice choice of bar food at very good prices. Lovely pint of Tennant's too! We looked out for this pub as we had heard it has the longest continuous bar in the UK. Staff friendly and a nice atmosphere.

If you can find Malvern at the bar you will have a good time. I have never had some care for my well being so much thank mapvom❤️❤️

Attended with friends and family for karaoke, at 8pm on a Saturday, was told it was too busy upstairs? Directed to the bar on the ground floor. Bouncers rude and not friendly at all, asked again 30mins later if we could go up only to be told no, too busy.

each time we come home to Glasgow we go to the horseshoe bar where ma grannie annie worked in the 60s !!! still heeps of atmosphere,beers , football on telly and loud raucous Glaswegians all getting pished !! what more could u want for a homecoming drink !!! just drank there plenty... drinks at affordable Scottish prices not like the evil English/London bars where no atmosphere at all....SCOTLAND wins the bar race hands down

La comida y las bebidas son baratas. La comida es barata por una razón. Pedí el bistec mediano y lo conseguí azul. Los camareros lo retiraron sin que yo dijera nada, lo trajeron (lo que creo que era el mismo bistec que lo cortaron por la mitad) y lo volvieron seco y duro como el cuero de la bota. Los camareros y la gerencia me dieron la comida gratis ya que era muy malo. No estoy seguro de cómo cualquier chef podría hacer eso. Servicio encantador, comida terrible.

Fui allí por la noche de trabajo, estaba ansioso porque no salía mucho, primero los aspectos positivos del personal son agradables y donde termina, reservamos nuestra cena pero por alguna razón no tuvimos nuestras cenas al mismo tiempo, fue el peor servicio de todos, conseguí la cena de pavo y yo y otros 7 en nuestra mesa ni siquiera pudimos comer, fue horrible, las verduras estaban frías y duras Turquía fue terrible esperó 2 horas para el pudín, nunca más lo haría Voy allí.

Had been there 2 years ago for a drink while shopping in Glasgow. I’m home from Canada again and was going to the theatre. We headed out a little early so we could go to the horseshoe. My cousin and I both had lunch I had a pint she had half pint £10.18. It was served promptly and hot. So glad I was able to take in this old Glasgow landmark

Had my first pint ever in Glasgow at The Horseshoe Bar which is a short walk from Central Station. My friend who lived in the city recommened the pub and it was great.Busy bar quite large and a cracking atmosphere.Very busy but easy to get served as they have many staff who are also very efficient. Had the local West Lager which was great. Huge choice of beers and looking forward to my next visit. A Great City Pub!

We meet friends here for lunch and always have a good time. Staff are friendly, good pub grub and reasonable prices. It has a fantastic ambiance with an iconic bar, very traditional pub. Worth a visit.

En genuin lokal pub med ok variation av öl på tapp. Utbudet av öl på flaska eller burk var mindre däremot. Mycket trevligt!

My wife and i called in here for a drink whilst visiting Glasgow for the day from Preston Lancs . The staff were friendly and made us feel welcome, The Pub had a good atmosphere and we loved the shape and the size of the Bar I would recommend visiting if you are in the area.

It's been a few years since I have been here. It used to be one on my favourite bars in Glasgow before I went over to the States for 9 years.

The upstairs bar has a queuing system which does not work some people think it is okay to walk right up to the front, the bouncers do nothing and when you complain you are somehow the bad guy.The management need to sort this before there is a riot

Good well cellared beer and cheap food. Stunning original Victorian interior with extensive horseshoe references, Definitely the best of its type in the city. If you enjoy beer and traditional fittings, including glass and mirrors, this bar is a 'must'.

There is nothing quite like The Horse Shoe pie and peas. little bit of pepper, a few splashes of vinegar over the peas. Absolute quality. For those with a sweeter palate then the beans are a good addition. The pies are always fresh and tasty.

This pub is what you would expect of a Glasgow pub... lots of tv’s to watch sport, reasonably priced drink and great service, plenty of staff. Did not have any of the food on offer so cannot comment on that service.

Iconic Glasgow pub. Good old fashioned style bar. I love this old , real traditional pub, with it's dark wood, and huge mirrors.Any time when I am in Glasgow I go there. Can get very busy but is still great place to a visit. Very reasonable prices for City Centre. Great atmosphere.

Famoso bar de Glasgow con la barra más larga de Europa (unos 32 metros) Está abarrotado de gente de la zona, nade de turistas. Los precios son muy ajustados, pagamos unas 3,5 libras por pinta. Nos sirvieron rápidamente y pudimos encontrar mesa. Imprescindible pasar a verlo al menos si estas por el centro. No probamos la comida.

My friend worked here last year for 2 months handed in her notice and left on amicable terms we arrived tonight got our drinks and had a seat , we then went to order another to be told no you can have a drink but your friend needs to leave as she used to work here wtf?? Bad show horseshoe on leaving 1 our friends then asked to use the toilet to which he was told no none of you will be granted re entry joke of a place

He ido al Horse Shoe Bar durante muchos años y estuve en el local el domingo 5 de mayo. Ambas mujeres fueron agarradas y bajadas físicamente por 2 hombres, mi amiga fue arrastrada por las escaleras y mi amiga no podía mover su asiento lo suficientemente rápido. Se pusieron agresivos de inmediato y nunca nos dieron la oportunidad de irnos de manera amistosa. Tengo moretones en los brazos. Tampoco me dieron mi bolsa y mi chaqueta de la premisa en la que tenía la llave de mi casa y el dinero para llegar a casa. Un amable caballero vio todo lo que sucedió y regresó a las instalaciones para recoger mis pertenencias.

Solía frecuentar el Horse Shoe, regularmente, y esta era la primera vez que regresaba, pero nunca regresaba. Ahora es parte de la cadena Mitchell & Butler, que vive de su reputación anterior y la ordeña como una 'vaca lechera'. El personal es amable y eficiente, pero ahora es solo un 'bar' y hay muchos bares mejores en Glasgow. La comida que se servía era lenta y gradual, mientras que el "viejo" Calzado para Caballos, para cualquiera que cuida su presupuesto, era fantástico.

The Horse Shoe Bar is the longest bar that you ll find in Scotland. Desgined in the shape of a horse shoe (Hence the name!) it caters to people in a panoramic manner. It is a great place to go for a local night out.

Visited here for drinks one evening and lunch another day. The place itself is quite pretty with a large circular bar and the atmosphere is good. The selection of drinks not too bad either. Was disappointed with the food quality unfortunately. The cleanliness of the gents toilets left a lot to be desired too, particularly the area beneath the hand drier.

I don't usually write negative reviews, but I feel compelled to write here because of the poor service that I received by not one, but three employees. There are two listings for this place - one mislead us to thinking it was good......

Not been here in years. Price for bottle coke £2.85!! Service deplorable. Added to that a dirty glass with lipstick on it. Bad show for an old relic.

I recently came here as part of a works night out a large group of about 15. We came for drinks and a ding a long up stairs. We all had really good laugh and were served large Roy de at the bar fairly fast despite it being rather busy so the was a plus for us. I would return

The Horseshoe must be visited if you visit Glasgow! It is probably the most cosmopolitan and lively bar wit the best atmosphere in the city - cheap drinks too!. What more can I say?h
