What a great find in Brecon! Really good beers, amazing tapas and a friendly atmosphere. What more could someone ask day?

Gorgeous spot we stumbled upon! Food is amazing and good selection of rum and gin. Small and bijoux. Looks like a converted house with desperate rooms to done in at the front and back. Comfortable a friendly vibe. Great staff. Small outside area at the back. We had it to ourselves. Loved it! Would deffo go back and recommend

Small bar but there are additional tables upstairs. 2 real ales and several “craft” beers. Well kept, staff friendly and knowledgeable. Tapas food looked good too. Wide selection of whisky and gins (nothing from the new star on the Welsh distillery scene, Aber Falls, but I’ve made the suggestion!). Well worth a visit.

Fab tap house , top choice of beers from around Britain and Europe, tapas also excellent, very friendly staff , one not to miss , hopefully return in the future 👍

Small in size but big on personality. Great crowd enjoying a fine selection of beers. Great tapas as well. The beers are served in 1/3, 2/3 and full pints so you can try across the menu without wasting a full beer. Also nice ciders. Chatted to the owner Ant for ages. Will be back next time in the area.

When we arrived it was pretty chaotic, but somewhat organised. Due to it being such a tiny place, there was barely anywhere to move to and the waitress couldn’t really see us. We made ourselves known and managed to get a seat. The staff were friendly but very busy and it was hard for them to stay on top of everything but they managed. The drinks were good, the choice was fantastic and the tapas was delicious. They were out of several dishes, which was a shame as we’d have liked to choose them, but we enjoyed our food and as it calmed down in there we were able to relax more. Definitely worth a visit, but be prepared for a bit of a scrum!

This quirky place was a good spot for an early supper. There were lots of gins to chose from and enough beers on draft although the selection is limited by the size of the place (small). Tapas was very tasty and not all fried food as some Spanish dishes. I would describe it more as 'small plates' because the dishes are healthy and some locally inspired (although it would be good to have the lamb cawl back on the menu). Service was friendly and attentive too.

We visited as we were staying nearby & thought it looked interesting.It turned out to be a great choice ! We chose a variety of tapas for the two us & they were all delicious,nicely presented & hot.The guy looking after us was really helpful & knew what he was talking about-husband likes really dark beer & the one he suggested was one of the nicest my husband has tasted. I was spoilt for choice with the available gins & enjoyed my local Brecon gin😋. The prices were really reasonable & if I lived locally,I'd be a regular customer.

We went in for for drinks before heading out for dinner, and we saw some amazing looking tapas come out. To say we were disappointed that we couldn't get any was and understatement (a very busy kitchen apparently). However, our server returned a little while later and said they could fit us in - and boy and am I glad they did. Seriously good tapas - probably better than what I've had in Spain. Calamari and the pickle-cod were amazing. Great hospitality too. Well done chaps...

We had a wonderful evening at the Hop In. The friendly staff helped us choose the beer, which was amazing and we had a selection of tapas that were out of this world. Great value for money and a brilliant night out. We certainly will be returning but it's quite a long way from where we live on Dartmoor!

Excellent small premises - a pub that happens to do excellent food as well as any number of craft beers, decent wines - and of course gin! It's friendly and efficient, and the menu (which is necessarily kept well under control) produces some rather delicious home cooked meals. It's affordable, cheerful - and it's a lovely place to spend a lunchtime or evening. NB - if they have 'cawl' on the menu (it's not there every day) go for it! It's heaven in a bowl.

This micro pub serves a good range of ales, beers and spirits. The friendly and knowledgeable staff are happy to help and provide tasters of what is on tap. They also serve wines and tapas.

Owners very friendly loads of different Gins made a very wet and windy week end a lot better. Small but very worth a visit we will be back

An endless Gin menu. Tapas style plates of fantastic food. A quirky place - we sat upstairs with the dogs, could have stayed all day and evening! One not to miss.

The Hop In sits in the heart of Brecon, just next to the High Street, close to the lovely attractions that this historic town has to offer. It has a happy air about it, and this is born out by the very friendly staff, who know exactly what they are doing and how to make their customers welcome. We wanted lunch - and there is a lovely menu of tapas and similar small-scale dishes on offer. Don't confuse small-scale with ungenerous. Nobody could accuse The Hop In of being mean in any way. The food is excellent - nicely prepared and very well served - and it's well within the reach of most purses. (NB - If they have the very Welsh 'Cawl' on offer, this is well worth having - a delicious stew made with lamb, it's nutritious and filling, and we will certainly be back for more. The other dishes available were equally appetising.) A thoroughly pleasant way to spend a lunchtime, and we look forward to visiting again.

Lovely restaurant/bar with an interesting and reasonable menu (good for vegetarians). We were celebrating a 70th birthday in Brecon. The atmosphere was great, we were allowed to bring our dog and the waiting staff were friendly and helpful. Unsurprisingly they have a wonderful selection of beer and gin (including non-alcoholic).

I have to say that a certain chef blew me away with his remarkable fish and chips, pleasent atmosphere service and exquisite dinner!

I came to Brecon to stay and was looking for somewhere in walking distance from my b&b I looked on trip advisor and found this little gem. The food was absolutely delicious I loved the idea of having tapas and I really recommend the baked Brie omg it was lush! There is a huge selection of gins to choose from which I also had to sample! Will def eat here again when I return to Brecon.

Celebrating a special birthday for a lovely friend. Great welcome on arrival. Super choice of drinks.Good bartender.Knew the choices and gave good advice. Called in today for the first time. What a gem of a place. Lovely welcome and the customer service was outstanding. Fabulous food too. Being able to have a beer take away was a bonus. Will definitely visit again. Thank you.

We visited for lunch and ordered the pork dish, beef strips, butternut squash and patatas tapas with sides of bread and chips. The food was delicious and the service also excellent. There was a huge array of gins to enjoy. I tried the negroni gin which was delicious. I highly recommend this restaurant. Brilliant.

Amazing food, the beef strips were so good. and the portions were generous. Our dog was welcomed and made such a fuss of by staff and all the other customers. Was spoit for choice by the number of gins on offer and hubby enjoyed the beer he chose.

Lots more seating upstairs, great value and fine scrumptious food. Nice wine lovely evening. Tip for owner- put a sign up to say more seating upstairs, we sat down stairs in the end, the lighting was a bit harsh upstairs and no music up there either. However, would sit anywhere for that lovely food.

Excellent variety in tapas! Portion sizes were huge for tapas… excellent value for money. Great tasting grub, I would recommend the white bait!! This meal made me so happy (see photo)

Popped in for a pre-exam results treat - gorgeous, hot food - generous portions - loved it - so reasonable too - £30 for 5 choices - a real treat that we all loved - beef strips in peppercorn sauce (so tender) cod goujons, chicken goujons, patatas bravas and chipped potatoes- gorgeous

We dropped in after visiting the museum and a walk along the canal. Really lovely little venue, seating in small garden area as well as plenty more upstairs. Plus catered for both vegan and gluten-free!

Absolutely amazed by this bijou bar and restaurant which really undersells its food. We had the best tapas I’ve ever tasted - and we have a lot of tapas restaurants in Cardiff which are not a patch on this. Family owned and run and the daughter , Ella, looked after us so well and has a lovely personality and sense of fun. The range of gins is truly impressive and incredibly good value but I really feel the the name of the business just doesn’t do justice to the quality of the food. A slight revision of the wording could make a lot of difference I think. The onion rings were fantastic - a proper crispy and dry batter with loads of flavour; strips of beef in creamy sauce lovely; goujons delicious, antipasti salad exceptional with soft artichoke, olives and a wonderful dressing. Warm chocolate pistachio pudding with ice cream and sticky toffee pudding with cream also lovely. We’ll be back and can’t recommend this venue highly enough.

We had a fab meal at Hop In during our recent holiday in the Brecon area. We decided to try it based on the reviews. I was a wee bit concerned though as we'd never done tapas before however we dived in and both chose two tapas from the extensive menu and wow what a feast we were served! Service was quick and the food was beautifully presented, really tasty and incredibly good value. Loved the quirky decor of the place with various items of interest on display! Highly recommended.
