Hootak Cantonese in Gedling

By far the best Chinese takeaway in mapperley. I use to use the one opposite it. It was closed one day when I went to order and I was dying for a Chinese so went to hootak and gosh I'm glad I did. The food is much more flavourful, taste fresh and the portions are good. The guy I speak when I order is polite and clear. It's also nice to get the £5 vouchers off because I order atleast once a month 😅 I tend to do a delivery and it comes piping hot every time without failure. 10/10👌🏿

Absolute Mugs!! Gave me food poisoning last year from prawns, I use to order weekly and was a loyal customer. Wait time for delivery is a joke sometimes 1.5hrs. Decided today to give them a go and collect, nearly fell off my chair when they said collect in 10 minutes, drove up to be told by the rude stern guy that he’s gave my order away to someone else, no sorry or anything just I’ll have to wait! Your greed is your failure, awful place and rude staff! Had you apologised and offered discount like a normal business this wouldn’t be an issue!

Always quality food! Probably the best takeaway I've had in Nottingham! Be prepared to wait for delivery on busy times, but always worth it! Great delivery drivers, always hot when arrives! 10/10

Just had a shredded chicken meal that I'm sure has never seen a chicken in it's life!! Sinues of fat and void of any meaningful pieces of chicken or what else? Still chewing!! Never again...😡

They think it's acceptable to charge you more than what it says on the menu.. Bizzarre!! 🤷‍♂️

Brilliant place, friendly staff, really good food. I've been a regular customer for over a year now! Their fried rice dishes are all really good. Just wish they had more dumpling options as dumplings are my favorite Chinese food in general

We ordered from hootak for the first time this evening and we weren't disappointed. The food arrived hot and it was delicious. It arrived earlier than expected which was great. Would absolutely use hootak again

Ordered chicken fried rice, Cantonese sweet and sour chicken, peking ribs. Chicken in the rice was burnt, some of the ribs were black through the sauce and very tough and chewy to eat, the sauce on the ribs looked like it does the next morning when sauce begins to solidify. But this was fresh from the tub! Sweet and sour chicken was barely covered in sauce. Very disappointing for a £16+ meal. Will never come back here again. The food did not taste freshly cooked. Be careful when ordering from here. Guy at the desk was very nice to speak to. Not the highlight I want from my dinner though!

I think this might be the best food location at mapperleytop. The staff, the food, the location. You could not wish for any better. The staff remember my orders and my name. This place is the place to go when you are hungry. Even as a vegetarian. Go here. I highly recommend it.

Helpful staff on phone and friendly driver, wrong item sent but credit to Hoo tak as correct item sent out quickly with genuine apology That's the good points but.... Food; crispy seaweed greasy and not crispy. Curry sauce very watery, chicken balls had plenty of batter but it was not cooked enough for crispness, outside was crispy but underneath was claggy Gave them a try as my regular was closed and too be honest wish I had waited till tomorrow when the better takeaway opposite is open

Where do I start! This place is the absolute bomb for food!! We’ll never go anywhere else! No matter what you order the food always exceeds your expectations! The best of the best!! Absolutely brilliant again. Won't eat anywhere else in the area, arguably the best take out i have had. We have been using it since we moved here over 10 years and with LITERALLY one exception the food has always been amazing.

Food was a heated up version of yesterday's leftovers. I paid for crispy duck, I got over cooked nasty bits of unwanted grizzled. The noodles were oily, the soup went in the bin. Never again.

First time ordering but will now definitely always order from hootak. Every thing was delicious and cooked to perfection

A nice family's owned business in Mapperley, which has been giving us the best Cantonese cousins in the area. Very clean and definitely worth the money spent.

Good food but shocking and unfriendly service. Such a shame. I'd say it must have been a one off so I tried a second time when picking up an order, I was waiting just under an hour for an order I'd agreed to pick up at a certain time to basically be told "we are busy, you are going to have to wait". I couldn't even leave as the man had taken my money as I'd walked in to pick up the order. Very clever man! I'll avoid from now on.

Very delicious Chinese food. There are casual calls and set meals. This store only does takeout.

After being told the food would be an hour I called after 1 and a half hours to be told it would be another 30 min Food arrived barely warm with a hair in the chow mien Poor attitude from man in the phone

Ordered takeaway and was told it would be 1 hour wait, 2 hours later we received the food with no apology from the delivery driver and to top it off the food was awful. I don't normally leave reviews but I felt like I had too this time so other people can avoid this bad experience!

Decent little Chinese on Mapperley Top. Food portions are generous and very tasty. It can be very busy though and take a number of times to get through on phone and it is a little more pricey then some locally. Delivery is quick, cheap and easy though.

The foods always hot and tasty, the staff are lovely. Never found a nicer takeaway yet.

I'm a shop fitter by trade and I've worked all over the British Isles, I've had numerous take aways in my 40 years, from Edinburgh to Swansea to Plymouth to London, but i have to be honest I've never had a Chinese takeaway as good as hootak in mapperley, I dont know them or want to know them but if they had a restaurant it would surely havea Michelin its probably the best takeaway I've had in 40 years

Chris Young I've recently started ordering from Hoo Tak, Mapperley and have been impressed by the meals and by the amount per portion. The customer service is also excellent, very friendly and efficient. It's additionally a reasonable price. I collect and the food has always been ready at the time stated. I am working my way through the menu trying new dishes. I've found the sweet and sour chicken and the Peking spare ribs to be the best so far. The squid was nice and tender unlike that from other places. So I would definitely recommend that you try their food.

Ordered £45 worth of food. Some of the order was wrong but we had already waited more than an hour so decided to live with it. The dumplings were unlike any I've had before and not in a good way. The spring roll tasted like what I image an old fusty carpet to taste like. Probably won't order here again.

Have had takeaways from here for years always really good but the last 2 wev'e had have not been good at all!! The rice is horrible & greasy horrible taste, I dont know if they have a different chef but will not be ordering from them again!!

We had a fabulous meal last night the prawn toast was the best I have ever tasted mushroom curry and foo yung So fresh made to perfection the customer service is outstanding honest about delivery times great value for Keep up the great work hootak.

Poor customer service doesn’t value its customers

Food always good but the delivery service has let it down badly. After years of quality service (collection only) I recommended Hoo Tak to a good friend as a treat following successful self isolation after testing positive a little while ago. Cost of food was £16 (cash only on delivery). A person other than the person who ordered the food took delivery of the food and later eluded that they were charged £26 by the delivery driver and thought it a little expensive even though the food was nice. My friend said that was incorrect (they are within the 3 mile delivery zone) as delivery should have only been £1 rather than £10 and contacted Hoo Tak as soon as they could. They were told it would be investigated but didn’t get a return call. After several further unanswered calls they were eventually told that the driver disputed the version of events and, as there was no proof as to what had been handed over, they couldn’t take the matter any further. This may be the case but this is a warning to others to ensure you know the cost of the food ordered and the delivery charge because the cash only option leaves it open to manipulation/mistake/misunderstanding and, because of this, I’ll be placing my next £35 order as well as future orders elsewhere.

First time customers and really impressed, each dish was delicious! Delivery sooner than expected too. Will certainly be ordering again.

Friendly service and great food

Used to use this place all the time. Last week we waited over an hour which was acceptable. However, tonight, I'm still waiting 3 hours later. I have already paid, we have rang over 40 times and the phone doesn't even ring. 3 hours!!! Can't contact them to cancel the order, can't contact them to see when it will actually be arriving. Will not be ordering from here again. Do not give a waiting time of 1 hour if it's going to be 3 hours!!!

Very unprofessional and unpleasant customer service. He hung up on me without even ascertaining my method of payment. I called back and cancelled the order. Then he called me from his mobile to give me a lecture?! How unprofessional is that?! I didn't even bother listening I just hung up and blocked both numbers. Thought I could trust Hootak but apparently not. The guy on the phone clearly has an attitude problem.

Ordered here loads of times and it's always been 1st class food. Can't fault them.

My family has been getting food from here for as long as I can remember. Really great food at decent prices.

Ordered food for delivery,was told it would be 45 minutes but almost 2 hours later it still hadn't arrived (on a Sunday so not a busy Friday night). I had called after 90 minutes to be told our meal had been ready for a while but they were waiting for a delivery driver to be made available. I eventually requested a refund which I received when the (rude and rather irate) driver turned up with our food, but having handed over the food and the refund, he took the food back, leaving us thankfully not out of pocket but starving. Really not impressed at all.
