Hooked On Fish in Sandwell

Really bad meal all round. The worst was my battered cod and chips. As I unravelled the bag the soggy batter pulled away from my fish. The batter was inedible and the fish was tasteless. The chips were dry and bland and after seeing the state of my overpriced fish, I couldn't continue eating it. To top the whole experience off the delivery man had an attitude and was very unfriendly. Unfortunately I won't be returning here. I've given two stars for the service because they delivered it on time, however if i could give no stars for the food I would.

Grim. Warmed up chips from lunchtime, fish was ridiculously greasy. Quite pricey and overall not very good. Wouldn't recommend.

Just got mini fish and ships curry sauce. And a bag of ships not good the price of the mini fish is outrageous and they were all cold when I got home just five minutes up the road won’t b going there a gain waste off my money 😡

Still the best Chippy in the Area! Visited again yesterday purely to Cradley Heath just for their Chips. Absolutely banging yet again. The taste of the Orange Chips are just out of this World. The batter bits are equally amazing. Well worth the drive from Stoke-On-Trent just for a bag of Chips 😁 We will be back very soon!

Im finding the negative reviews hard to take on board! I travel from Stoke-On-Trent especially to get Fish and Chips from here. Just the best Orange Chips around! Fish fresh cooked to order, gravy proper thick and lovely. Scraps amazing too! Never had a bad meal from here. We all love it. Yes it can be pricey but so is every other chippy as prices have gone up everywhere. Highly recommend ❤️

have gone here for years most saturday nights , but lately they do not change the oil enough food is really greasy . fish is lovely , but chips are all ends too , please change oil more and give us proper chips chunky , we miss you being the best chippy in west midlands

£1.80 for a small cone of chips then when I open them up my 18month old can count how many there is think it was about 21 stop been so tight and give people more for there money

Awful customer service and horrendous roe and chips

On a recent vist we were very disappointed on the quality of the mini fish and chips. The fish was not very good an off white not the best bit of the filet . Its a meal deal i get it but is a smaller portion not inferior fish! We have been using this until recently excellent place we now travel a little further for the quality.

Last night i visited the above establishment and ordered 2 x mini fish and chips and a curry sauce. I was charged £11.00 . I thought that this was a bit steep. I questioned the price and said "I have ordered mini fish is this correct." I was told it was. I looked at the price board and indeed it was £3.50 for a piece of mini fish and £2.20 for a small portion of chips. £1 for the curry sauce. Due to the covid screens i could not clearly see the young shop assistant serving the food . When i got home and upon opening the fish and chip paper, i was taken aback by the very small servings. The fish was no bigger than a fish finger and that includes the batter. The portion of chips was so small that a child would struggle to fill up on it. i am regular customer and i have noticed that their portions are getting smaller, but after last night , i will not visit this place again. They are not giving value for money.

Have to change review guess there is new staff, used to be great but now can't be bothering to stay open till 9 like they say, just close whenever they want (8.35 ) with staff saying closing now and pulling shutter down

I used to live just a few miles away from Hooked on Fish. Being brought up in the black country where the tradition of frying in beef dripping was strong, I always found the oil versions so disappointing. Since i found Hooked I never had to go elsewhere. I always use beef dripping when cooking them at home and now I live in Wales where all the chippies here are disgusting thank goodness I can do it. To those who write of 'swimming in grease' and being' all batter' I can only surmise their reviews are about other places. I have used hooked for over 25 years and never ever had such dire experiences.

Used to always use this fish bar and thought I'd use them on Uber eats for a change, delivery was good but the meal wasn't, the fish I ordered smelled and tasted sour which indicates to me that the fish was almost ready to go off, I won't be using these again as my last experience wasn't the best

There is sometimes a queue of people waiting outside of this fish and chip shop in Cradley Heath high street. This is because it is generally acknowledged that this is a great fish and chips. The staff work hard so that despite the queue out of the door it doesn't take too long to get served. As it is so busy the food tends to be just out of the fryer freshly cooked, and is always excellent. I normally find that just a mini fish and chips are enough to fill me up.

Cod is cod but the batter is almost tempura the chips taste like cooked in dripping if you're old enough to remember

Battered chips with no batter and the fish was watery on the inside and had the thinnest layer of coating on and was also soggy. These are not battered chips people lol.

Food is too greasy here and is always swimming in oil. Too expensive for what it is and extremely small portions. Same owner as Joes plaice I believe but Joes is so much nicer for some strange reason !

Last Thursday night I had 2 large Cod and chips , the large fish was all batter hardly any fish there at all , when you pay £4.80 for a fish you expect something better not something you end up throwing away , also the chips were stone cold which added to the disappointment of the meal

Went shopping Wednesday evening,stopped off for fish and chips,although they were cooked to order they were not their usual standard, they were very greasy ,the guy who was cooking seemed to be on his phone for the whole time he was cooking the fish,he let down the normal quality they usually are, if he's not interested in cooking them to the high standard they usually are the find someone who will do their job

Food is very good but the portion size could be better. Just over £5 for a mini fish and chips with curry sauce. I've paid half that elsewhere for the same portion size.

This is undoubtedly one of the best chip shops in the Stourbridge area and worth the detour for the quality of the food. I tend to have mini fish and chips and will admit portions are perhaps on the small side? Prices are around the local average.

Recently moved to Area. Sampled other nearby Chippies but prefer this one. Excellent, like all Chippies used to be. Joes Plaice nearby also good, but Hooked On Fish better value for money (Mini Fish & Chip 50p Cheaper and same quantity portions).

Over priced , burnt garbage. Chips were burnt to the point the batter on them tasted bitter. The price advertised for a mini fish is £2.50, instead got charged £4. If you value your wallet and stomach contents.... go else where.

Been to Hooked On Fish a few times now. I told my family about it and we all went together. They all agree that the food is amazing. Fish is cooked perfectly and everything else is too. I have been to many award winning chip shops and this little gem is most certainly up there!

Tasty chips, they're battered. Staff cope with large orders and are friendly. Pies, fish, scallops and the norm but missing kebab meat! Still great though. Rang an order through to save time. It didn't. Didn't make any difference as I still had to confirm order when I got there and wait in a queue that was out the door & down the street! Be prepared to have a long wait on busy days

Fantastic Chippy They do a large range of fish too Been eating here all my life. Never had a bad meal. Their battered chips are stunning. This is a traditional Chippy so they don't do kebabs. They have a second shop which is on Cradley Road by the post office. They do kebabs and normal chips(not battered) And you can eat in.

Fabulous chippy! I drive past our local 'award winning' chip shop and 10 minutes down the road just for these chips. Friendly shop with a loyal following and great food.
