stopped off in-between working friendly staff and beautiful food had kebab and chips and there was loads definitely a must try again

Tried here for the 1st time tonight. My partner doesn't usually have chip shop chips but he absolutely loved your chips. We also had curry sauce, roe & doner kebab, it was all amazing. We will definately be using you from now on

Not had a chippie for a while, but seen this advertised and wanted to try. We were not disappointed, chips are amazing! The fish was beautiful, fresh, crispy batter. Staff were very welcoming. Offers available including free chips with certain items. If you're gonna pay the price, you want it nice. Found my favourite chippie 🤩

Glad to see this place under new management. This is our local fish shop and happy to say it’s back on our top spot! Lovely warm welcome, all our orders were delicious, love the new chips! Good to see a reasonable price too. For under £20 it fed the family.

The Hollyhead Road Fish Bar has transformed into a high quality and very tasty chip shop with affordable meals, giving the current struggles of cost of living crisis. This place is exactly what the people of stone cross needed! The new owner, Andy is in my opinion becoming a local legend already. As he has incorporated the staple black country style chip shop with Cypriot twist! Today I got a large cod which came with free chips (battered or plain), and a mix meat burger with chips and a small Irish curry pot. The whole meal cost me £12.80! That is some seriously good value for the money it was quality, quantity and flavour, like the Greek Gods had come down from the heavens to bless man with some fire food. Andy has it all! Tandoori chicken meat, Mediterranean chicken meat and classic kebab meat. Which is very well seasoned and of highest quality! It's that old school kabab flavour and the quality is top notch, because after eating the burger I was not feeling heavy like a lot of cheapo kabab's make you feel. Also, Andy toasts his burger buns!!! The Hollyhead Road Fish Bar offers two types of chip plan and battered and three types of curry sauces i.e. classic chip shop, Chinese and Irish. They have halloumi, goujons and naan breads, the classic roe and chips and many varieties of pies and pasties, lots of options for kids meals with a variety of different mains and sides. I would also like to say that Andy and his whole team are epic people, they are warm and welcoming, their friendly nature is something of a rarity in this day and age. Keep up the good work Andy 💯. Bottom line is you should definitely come check out The Hollyhead Road Fish Bar they have some amazing food and brilliant offers on. All the food is very tasty and of a very high standard of quality. The building, interior and area the shop is located in is clean and has many accessibility facilities for all types of people.

I had haddock and chips wife had mix meat wrap the best we have eaten in years we will definitely go back highly recommend Andy is very friendly and helpful found my go to chip shop

Fish is back to its best thick chunky cod You can have battered or plain chips I prefer battered but that's me. Hollyhedge chippy is back to its best Best chippy around keep it up.

Simply the best chips in the area, not greasy in the slightest and taste amazing, kebab wraps are fillled to perfection(not small stingy salad and meat like other chippys) The staff are super friendly, it’s like going back to happier times 😁

Under new management now. I visited for the first time tonight. Such a warm welcome from the lovely staff and owner. Food was fresh and stunning! Highly recommended. Best chip shop food I've had for a long time.

Really good cod. Chips are average, need to better, they were too thin. Mushy peas are below par. Grey-green sludge. Room for improvement. It does have potential.

Updated April 2024 - since being taken under new management, the friendliness, food, and value have improved so much. Andy's is an incredible chip shop with lovely food, good portion sizes and good value. Also, remember to take cash!

Was persuaded by the new manager to try the chicken goujons and chicken kebab, and both were lovely. I’m fussy with chicken, but there was nothing I could fault. Lovely staff too, Thankyou :)

Has gone downhill compared to my last take away a few months ago. Order was messed up and chips are no longer battered. They were soggy and awful. Go up to Stone Cross. Two wonderful chip shops there

I've been visiting this F&C shop since the 90's but coming to the current management and employees, I can't fault them. Friendly, helpful and professional. Today, Fri 03rd Nov '23, my son went for a large F&C for lunch and fantastic, amazing my only quizzical frown, wish there were more chips but that's me 😂🤣. I always wave as I walk past the shop 👋.

What's happened to the chips no batter and cold they tasted awful. We use this chips shop each week and the lady's should have told us the chips had changed and we would of walked off.

Went in here today to get a cone of chips expecting not to get many as is normally the case in fact it was quite the opposite to which I was very surprised very satisfied friendly staff and the chips were hot & fresh (beautiful) 😋they DIDN’T taste rubbery like they’d been sat there all day can’t fault this place and I’ll definitely be coming again excellent 😊

We always travel about a mile to get our fish and chips from here even though we have a chip shop opposite our house. The fish always tastes great and the chips are like old fashioned chips used to be. Always a friendly welcome by the staff

I used to enjoy the chips from here but for the third time this year I have just had the most awful dry scraggy bits of old potato I've ever tasted. What has happened to this chip shop? I won't be coming here again!

I was visiting family in Great Barr on stopping from the pub we had fish and chips fantastic . Very friendly staff .the fish was very tasty . Come visit NYC folks!

Went out on a business trip and stopped by here, my good it is awful, chips were just bits of batter (as the chips are battered and doesn’t say anywhere or give you the choice of non battered chips) fish is appalling waste of money £7.10 for normal fish and chips totally not worth the money, undercooked as the thick batter is like glue and white inside, staff are friendly enough but have no idea how to cook fish and chips

Went in as was passing by my god it’s shocking, chips were like crisps as they are battered and doesn’t say anywhere for non regular customers batter was raw inside as it is thick and white like dough, fish was tasteless and poor value for money, fish chips were £7.20!!! I can get much better quality food at my local in Stourbridge for £5.80 and £1.90 for tinned roe, c’mon I know things aren’t cheap but that’s ridiculous, thankfully I’ll never be coming back here as it is really poor value for money, the staff are friendly enough but the food is not to the standard of £7.20 I’m afraid

The chips are good and of course are the correct chip colour for the Black Country, Orange. Ive been using this chippy for years since it was called something else random like Di-iorios or similar. The only thing that lets it down is the kebab meat is hit and miss. If it's cut fresh off the spinning thingy it's great but find a lot of the times it's reheated out the back and is very rubbery. If this problem was fixed and normal (not tika) chicken meat was available it would be a definite 5 star. I've tried to time it to get fresh cut meat but it seems random.

Chips was not cooked was hard in middle. Paid nearly £10 for chips, curry and sausage x2. Sausage was burnt on outside and pink in the middle. STAY AWAY. Horrible.

went in on Tuesday night there had been a price increase to the menu the portions seemed smaller. How can you put £1.30 on a Doner kebab in naan what a rip off not going back. David Taylor

We as a family have used this shop every Friday for a fair few years. Tonight we went to find a 25% increase in price, really disappointed, needless to say we will be looking elsewhere. Cannot justify that much more on a chippie tea from one week to the next. Bad move Hollyhedge Chipshop 🙁

The worst tasting chips I’ve ever eaten, tried 4 in a state of desperate hunger, threw the rest away because they tasted like old fat, with sweetener, my usual chip shop was shut, they honestly were awful, worst I’ve ever eaten I’ll go so far to say, go anywhere else, they’ll be better.

Just bought a bag of chips to try this place, they were vile, if people think these are good chips you should try anywhere else, didn’t even give them my dog, terrible

Food is nice but I think the staff might be racist. I visited shop whilst busy, older lady took my order, then curiously proceeded to serve someone else. All other customers leave, even the two that came after me. Younger woman asks older woman 'what was this guys order?' Older lady replies 'I don't know, I can't understand what he is saying' younger woman proceeds to serve me. The food was very tasty, although that isn't always the case. My aunt visited once, they gave her stale, inedible chips. Me and my family are brown skinned, may be that had something to do with it. Utterly appalled, which is a shame because the food can be very nice. EDIT: Thank you for the response from Graham. First of all, my first language is English and I speak it quite fluently, any other languages I know are secondary. Although my parents are foreigners, I was born in Sandwell and went to the now defunct Hollyhedge Primary School. I cannot give an exact date for my incident, it was about a year ago but my aunt visited just a few months ago. Again, haven't an exact date but she got the chips around 5:30pm. She was with a white male work colleague on one of her bus rounds and decided to get chips from here. Her work colleague asked her to go and complain but she proceeded not to. This may be frustrating for you but I cannot give other details for reasons of personal safety. To be fair, I may have jumped the gun a little in calling you racist. Me and my family have suffered numerous racist incidents over the years and I do tend to feel threatened quite quickly. I can see your business will do well (the food is genuinely nice) but I will unfortunately not be returning for reasons of anonymity and possibly being singled out for my review on here. If Tracy is the younger looking tattooed lady, then I can honestly say she has always served me courteously every time I've visited the shop. She was the one who showed concern when the other lady didn't even bother to ask what my order was again (she could've said 'sorry, I didn't hear you, what was your order again?'. Instead, that other lady proceeded to serve (I dare say) Caucasian customers.) Your response is much appreciated.

Rang ahead to order 8 chicken nuggets for the kids to share (they are cooked to order and we didn't want to have a long wait for them). When we arrived there were only 4 and the staff were heard saying that they'd given the other 4 away. Fine, but surely they could have put 4 more in at that point so that our order would have been ready when we got there!
