Hook Tandoori in Hart

I’ve been in Hook Tandoori yesterday around 9pm receptionist named Abdul behaved very rude with me. And today dated 11/10/2024 around 20:30 I went there and that same person named Abdul said me to get out from restaurant I’m not gonna take any order from you said Abdul for what reason I don’t know. After this I said my friend to come with me and order because I have organised a party and Abdul insulted me front of my friend and full of crowd there by saying my friend if you’re with him I’m not gonna take your order. It’s not nice to insult someone like this. I request to manager/owner to look into this matter and sort it out. It could happen to anyone . And today again 13/10/24 at 21:20 I called to order and same staff named Abdul said we are not gonna take any order from you mentioned owner said if you reviewed bad you are blocked from Restaurant. It’s clearly a wrong thing I request to head to look into this matter. And, I won’t suggest anyone Hook Tandoori.

The best chicken curry and naan I ever had, the grilled lamb was so good, soft, spicy (but not hot), served on a hot plate, freshly grilled. Kind staff, felt really at home. The best meals we had during our stay in Hook.

Dined here a few years ago and it was really good, sadly last night wasn’t, we had chicken dhansak and chicken tikka masala the chicken breasts had been cooked whole then sliced without any marinade then reheated (which left them shrivelled and very dry) then thrown into a very bland very oily sauce truly the worst masala sauce I have ever had the misfortune to taste. The dhansak sauce though spicy was also oily and quite tasteless. Very disappointing!!

A very well presented, and definitely above average Indian/Bengali/Tandoori type restaurant. I had the Monkfish curry, my wife the sea ass curry. Both used the same sauce, which at first taste was underwhelming, however my taste buds adjusted. There were super flavours to the back of the mouth and I relished it all. As did my wife. Portion sizes were good, not too large or small. One complaint was that the tables are too close together. Overall : very enjoyable and will certainly return.

We were not expecting much from a local Indian restaurant in a small village. We were very pleasantly surprised. Service was the traditional very attentive Indian restaurant service with all the bells and whistles: pull your chair for you, do you napkin for you etc etc. very polite and not obsequious. Food was excellent. Not the typical greasy curry house fare here! Huge menu was initially a possible warning sign but everything was fresh, lovely flavours. I had lamb dhansak, my partner had the special monkfish curry which was really really good. The naan was great too. Fresh, crispy and soft. Bottom line: if you like Indian food this is a real winner. Don’t let the sleep town of hook fool you.

Worst experience, extremely rude staff, the whole meal was rushed with staff hovering taking things off the table while others in the group were still eating and the food wasn't up to much, won't be going back.

Honestly had the best dinner here with plenty of fresh curries. Boy oh boy were do I start with the Poppadoms with that chutney.

This most be one of the worst curry houses I have been to. The food tasted vile the waiters were useless would not recommend this to anyone. We went on a Monday two other people in restaurant service slow food vile.

Award winning restaurant with wide men. Clean toilets and well presented tables with white table cloths. Regular visitor over the years. Not quite such a good standard as previously, but well worth a visit. A bit noisy when busy. Arrived at 7. 30 pm and even later not completely full Still a good restaurant and look forward to next visit

We hadn’t really intended to eat Indian food for lunch but we are so glad we chanced on this restaurant ~ they were courteous and efficient (despite just recovering from an over night robbery). The food was excellent, the menu varied and authentic. We were very impressed with the cloth table linen and the little extras at the end of our meal. Highly recommend.

As always, my Vinderloo and my partner's Rogan Josh were incredible. It's always super consistent and full of flavour. The staff are always welcoming, friendly and always make it a memorable experience. We'll be back......probably next week :)

Me and work colleagues were staying opposite and noticed it 1 evening after work , looked it up on Google and seen how famous and how good the food , staff and the restaurant was so thought try it out. The food , by far best Indian I have ever had , so fresh , the ingredients was amazing and the staff so friendly. Highly recommended especially if you're staying in the area. Just wow 👌

Always good. It can get busy so worth booking. And the reason for it being busy is, the food is GREAT! Update April 2024 - admittedly the restaurant was nearly fully booked due to 2 large groups, but, the service wasn't great last night. Also, we were sat under a flickering light, which was very annoying and needs replacing!

When the chocolate at the end of your meal is the tastiest thing you ate, there’s issues. To be fair the onion Bahjis were ok, but a bland jalfrezi is the last thing you would expect. Went on the strength of previous reviews, but I wouldn’t go again or recommend.

The place is very popular so we were initially put in an area next to a very loud family with young children. We asked to be moved and they did. They were obviously very rushed off their feet but the staff were polite and quite efficient. We ordered out standard Indian dishes but weren’t very impressed. The butter chicken was bland and the lamb dish we ordered had a zero chili rating on the menu but was full of chillies. The restaurant was packed and quite airless won’t be returning in a hurry.

Been living in hook for over 12 years and this was the first take away we had. Loved this place since that moment. I've just had a takeaway and had the hook tandoori special and it's arguably the best curry Ive ever had.

Hook Tandoori gave a pleasurable dining experience that allowed me to easily regard it as a favourite; each of the dishes revealed a desirably prominent flavour that was balanced in compliment, providing a positively persistent savoury indulgence. The hosts promoted enthusiasm through their welcoming pride towards each interaction. Even the socially reserved clientele appeared blissfully relaxed. The restaurant was endorsed by a mate, and it is now clear as to why.

Pleasant atmosphere and even better food, great variety on the menu, helpful and smiley staff coupled with delicious flavours and high levels of cleanliness. Highly recommend. Fun for the family or with friends.

Excellent food and brilliant service

Recently visited Hook Tandoori, the food was good. But our visit was spoilt by 2 things.... the very rude man who took our food order, if we had not been with friends I would of told him to stick his restaurant andxwalked out. The 2nd thing was the fact their front door didn't close fully which meant there was a constant freezing cold draft whistling through the restaurant, everyone sat in this section next to the bar all had their coats on to eat.

Excellent food as always. They also made a special effort to mark my birthday. Highly recommended!

Went on a Thursday night in Jan, the atmosphere, service and the food were all great. Attentive staff, fast service, and great value, one of the very best Indian restaurants anywhere.

I tried Hook Tandoori last night as many have told me I should go. It's not the closest to where I live, but wow, the journey was worth it. I had chicken tikka as a starter. The chicken was tender with great favour. Decided to have chicken tikka masala as my main. These dishes come with rice included which helps the budget. Always wary of the places that have bright red tikka massala and Hook Tandoori version is not serve that type of dish. You can tell straight away that the ingredients are quality, the chicken breast clearly cooked to perfection with a Massala source that was not super sweet / bright red - a proper traditional recipe that was delicious. I cleaned the plate. Ice cold Cobra as well, just as I like it. Lastly staff were super attentive, kept checking in on our meal progress, making sure we were happy - which we absolutely were. Thank you Hook Tandoori team, see you again soon.

Hands down the best Indian restaurant in the area. We have more local choices that just don't hit the mark. Abdul and team are super friendly and make sure you always have a good experience. If you want the best / consistent Indian / Bangladeshi food then don't look any further. Naan bread always fresh, rice cooked to perfection and flavoursome dishes. The chilli sauce/dip with the poppadoms is not to be missed.

Absolutely awful service. The manager was so rude, he never bothered to even have a conversation about the food or service. The plates and table cloth were removed even as some of the diners were eating that too by 10 pm about half an hour before the restaurant closing time. Food was undercooked and experience was quite bad. Finally when we asked about the service was questioned which part part of India were were from as if this matters. Wouldn't recommend to anyone neither visit again.

Awful service, food was raw and had food poisoning. Attitude of the Manager was so bad, our food was taken while eating. Service was absolutely disgusting. I would rate it zero.. Avoid it at all cost..

Purchased a chicken tikka starter and bread. Bread was lovely. Chicken not so good, went straight in the bin. My lunch was bread. Thanks for the salad to try and fill me up. It use to be so nice there.

Great place to eat lovely staff

Really nice food and friendly service. We were a bit close to other tables and so it got a bit loud and difficult to hear, but we would happily go back again. Edited to add that when we went back it was busy, and the service suffered massively. Missed side dish, slow service and our reservation (despite us phoning to confirm) had been missed out of their diary. Food was still spectacular, but not such a good experience.

This place produces seriously good food. Worth driving past it's competitors to get there. Service and atmosphere are fine. But it is the great tasting food that you will come back for. And ... That is not a bad thing

Noisy, overpriced mediocre food and surly staff! To top it off they tried to give me foreign currency in my change - won't be rushing back!

Takeaway was dreadful had chicken korma which was not cut into cubes massive pieces very bland as was the rice and I don't know what they put in the meat samosa but it was inedible so disappointed never had a problem before

We decided to order a takeaway as the restaurant was very busy. Not somewhere we use often as quite expensive but in the past have always enjoyed our food. Sadly this time it was very disappointing. Diced chicken in the korma was large lumps of meat, very stingy portion. Rice was nice, garlic naan bread overcooked and not pleasant as was quite soggy. I expected more for the money. Perhaps the same care isn't taken with takeaway orders. Won't be returning.

First visit here. A quick stop off on a journey down the M3. Tasty food. Interesting menu. So much better than a stop at Fleet services and only 3 minutes from the motorway. We'll be back!

Food is consistently very good, if you have not tried it give it a go. I have tried Indian restaurants all over the south of England, to date not found any better.

Best curry for miles. Staff are always friendly and noting is too much trouble for them. Very clean tables and utensils and staff are always well presented. Good for eating in or takeaway.

This place had fantastic feedback from friends and family, but I was left rather undwhelmed. We had a booking for 19:00 and were still kept waiting for 15 minutes whilst they were seating people who arrived after us. When we were finally seated, we were given no menus for 30 minutes. The lamb tikka skewers are amazing, but the prawn balti, lemon Rice, sag paneer and onion bhaji were lacking flavour. The balti was a bit spicy when the menu said there wasn't any. The theme of the place is nice 👌 but it was packed with people. It was so loud that I had to shout to be heard. Staff are friendly enough.

The food was really great & myself & my partner really enjoyed it. However the services wasn’t great. We didn’t book a table as visited on a whips as was staying near by. We was seated promptly & a waiter came to take our order. He appeared to be deaf as kept asking us to repeat what we wanted. They didn’t seem happy that we didn’t want to order poppadoms. The food was not the quickest to be served & the peshwari Nan states comes with fruit & nuts. There was no fruit in it. Which was good as meant my partner could have some. (They need to update the menu) We had finished our food but not our drinks & the waiter started to cleared the table including the table cloth whilst we was still sat drinking, I personally found this very rude. Fine to clear the places but not the full table. Would visit again purely for the food

Was in Basingstoke for work and this was close by, so I thought I'd give it a try, can't fault it, the staff we're helpful too, which is a massive plus in my eyes. Would come again if I was in the area.

My absolute favourite place to eat. We do all our family celebrations here and my whole family love it. The food is fantastic, the atmosphere is lovely, and the staff are brilliant. Always feel welcome! I recommend to everyone! (And if you don't finish it, take it home and have it the next day, it's still lovely!)

Well, Over the years I have eaten in many Indian restaurants around the UK and Australia. Hook Tandoori just has to be the best one that I have had the pleasure to go to. Back story, long time school friend, over 60 years, lives in the village. Went there on a busy Saturday evening. Started with popadums of course. They arrived immediately with a full range of accompanying relishes etc. Service was immediate, it does help that my friend had been dining there for over 30 years.

Made another 200 mile motorcycle round trip to eat at my favourite Indian resturant. Adbul (the owner) was very welcoming, and I had a delicious Lamb Madras with rice and popadoms. It was the best curry I've had since the last time I visited (over a year ago). I can highly recommend it. I shall return. Thank you Abdul and all the staff.

Food was absolutely delicious, fresh and tasty. I have been to couple of Indian restaurants but do not recall such a fabulous meal.

Been here a few times over many years and had good food however I think they’ve lost their way. The last couple times we’ve ordered, the food has been really disappointing. We had a takeaway recently and apart from being expensive (we had no meat dishes, one prawn the rest vegetarian dishes) it lacked flavour, was oily and no substance. Maybe they’re getting complacent being the only Indian restaurant in Hook. Friends have also had a similar experience. I hope they improve but for the time being we’ll be using the restaurants in Hartley Witney.

Food was generally average. One of our party asked for no coriander which was ignored. Rather than changing the dishes the waiter chose to try and blame us and told us to swap dishes amongst ourselves. Didn't want to start an argument but the end result is they will lose any repeat business from a party of 6. All for £5 worth of food. Shortsighted.

Not impressed…..ordered a chicken tikka masala, but requested this be a medium spice rather than the traditional mild. Bloody awful, came yellow like a korma! Written on the lid ‘CTM - less spice! They obviously didn’t listen to the order, put LESS spice in and ruined my dinner all for 40 quid. Sorry, but not impressed! #musttryharder

The place has been recently furnished and staff were so friendly. Very rich & authentic menu that cater for all taste of Indian & Bengali food. Bringing order was quick & all cooked perfectly.

We’ve been using Hook Tandoori, both sitting in and takeaways, for as long as it’s been open. It used to be amazing. However something happened at some point a few years back now. I don’t know what they do to the chicken now, it comes as huge lumps of really hard chewy meat. Revolting. Even my son who is a real meat eater said he wasn’t keen. I’ve recently chosen veggie for that reason, but the veg biryani I had this time was just a mush, but watery at the same time. We are really gutted as we’ve been loyal to HT for so long and it’s handy as in walking distance. However we’ve been forced to try Monsoon in Hartley Wintney of late.

Usual high food standard. All of our seven party expressed satisfaction with their meal. Wide menu offering plenty of choice. Good decor and table spacing. Clean toilet. Service good and friendly especially bearing in mind it was a busy Saturday night

A return visit and not disappointed. This time they were not too busy which for us gave us a number of added benefits such as ease of parking (can be very challenging when this are busy) and prompt and effecient service. Had excellent dishes and drinks - the portion sizes and quality of food were excellent. Will definitely visit again.

Delicious food and friendly atmosphere.

My family moved to Hook last year and we ordered our first takeout from this place on Christmas Eve and OW my it was delicious!!!!!! Since then we ordered 3 times more and every single time very high standard of the food. Looking forward to actually go out and dine in. Would very much recommend this restaurant 👍👍👍

Have been going here for over 20 years! The standard of food quality and service have always been the best. It is simply the best tandoori restaurant in the region!

Food is always hot and tastes delicious, every time. Be it sit down or takeaway. Staff are always friendly and welcoming and long may their success continue.

I was staying at Highfield Park and searching a place to dine in. Hook Tandoori is definitely worth the drive. I had the Chicken Tikka Masala, comes with rice and I ordered a Garlic Naan bread. The food was amazing, the service was absolutely wonderful! Highly recommend this place!
