Hook Fish and Chips in Hart

Rafael agreed to accept my order for 31 x fish & chips and 10 x chicken & chips, to be collected at 6.30pm on a Friday night. This was after another local shop had refused, so I was already most grateful ………..although I guess the queue of customers waiting for theirs much longer than usual weren’t.

Awful chips, worst I've tasted. They were anemic looking and were oddly very 'sharp' (they must have been pre-cooked and left to 'set')! Very disappointed and wouldn't go there again nor recommend! However, the service was very good and impressed with the hygiene.

i bought a large cod and chips,which ive bought before as the hook has a reputation as a good fish and chip shop,i paid sat down within less then 5 minutes it was ready,it was dark brown over cooked oily batter ,fish was stained inside brown,i didnt unwrap the meal till i got home,if i had done so in the shop i would of asked for my money back ,it was the worst ive bought for a long time,will not buy fom there again ,a good reputation spoilt by staff who should but dont know how to serve quality fish and chips

Came on recommendation by a friend and Hook did not disappoint. Beautiful fish and batter. Lovely chips and my husband said great mushy peas.

The fish was very disgusting and very disappointed. There was hardly any fish. The batter was burnt on the outside and uncooked in the inside. The chips portion is very little.

i was feeling very down after my husband has recently went out to sea, was feeling very hungry and i couldn’t be bothered to cook and they cheered me up!

I will never eat from there again we had family round and when my husband bought the food home and we were serving it up there was not 1 but 2 long red hairs in the chips! It made me feel sick! Hair should be put up in a net to prevent things like this happening!! All they could say was we will give free chips next time like we would ever eat from there again! Very poor hygiene!

Ordered 4 different meals, slight wait on kids chicken nuggets but good to know there cooked to order 👍 everyone enjoyed the food, will be back 🙂

This is a great place to eat. I will be visiting this again. We came over from London to see friends in this area and this was our Friday night meal

The Fish was flat and oily . The man was moody … customer service with a smile costs nothing That’s the first and last time I will be going there That was my lemon 🍋 on the plate …. It tried its best

Visited with my family July 2022 and cannot fault the efficient and friendly service from Steph and Lindsay. Would recommend a visit 👍

Avoid this place if you have got a dog, definitely not allowed in… Some reviews say it’s dog friendly but they are definitely not allowed inside !!!

We were looking for a fish supper when travelling home on the M3 and were nearly put off by the bad reviews. Although the staff were not very cheery, our fish and chips were fine, and good value for money. A convenient place to stop as there is parking outside and it is not too big a diversion from the M3

Fish and chips and veggie burger average but served without any friendly greeting. Not a local so won’t be returning anyway. Good customer service should be a priority. A friendly smile is free but counts for a lot!

throwing it down with rain we needed somewhere to eat for evening meal and decided on trying take away from here it was very nice fish and chips good size

As a local on a day out I expected better, worse chippy we have had in the area. Fish, scampi and chips were all soggy, very disappointing.

I don't agree with the Trip Adviser possible rating of only either average or very good, this is simply a good local fish and chip take away. We are new to the area and ordered fish, chips and scampi. All were cooked freshly, were hot...

Went here for Haddock and Chips on my birthday on Monday. Portions were excellent and food was very good. Easily the best chip shop in the area

make you welcome but we usually have their fish and chips once a month you can also ring up to order and collect except fridays

Had food ordered only once from here in my 15 days stay. The food lacked the quality. Esp the chips were very soggy and inedible.

Absolutely shocking service! I saw they had a card machine on the counter, ordered food for my family. He said 10-15 minuets I went to Tesco come back was a big que . Walked past the que got a load of mouth of a lady...

Staff have the customer service skills of the dead fish they fry. Large portion smalled than the regular portion, saveloy pink and undercooked so gave it to the dog. When questioned the portion size and if the women actually put salt and vinegar on them...

I ordered the chicken kebabs and they were revolting, Had a couple of mouthfuls and it was so bad had to bin it even the dog wouldn't touch the meat ! Avoid these. I do not know what the rest of the food is like in fairness but I wont be going back............ever. I hope we don't get ill tomorrow.

Good, straightforward fish and chip shop. Used to be run by Chinese but now run by eastern europeans. They are very polite and willing, but don't always cook the fish properly. Sometimes the batter is still soggy on the inside: by the time you get it home it's all gone soggy. But when they cook it properly, it's OK.

Good food well cooked and clean , not a vast menu but it's a chippy what more do you need . They offer Chicken , kebabs , burgers and a few other delights if you don't fancy the luscious looking Fish .

The chips from here are delicious and you get loads. We buy one large portion and one small between 3 of us. Very reasonably priced especially for the amount you get. We prefer this shop to others in the area.

Being local this used to be a regular shop for fish and chips but having changed hands a year or so ago it went downhill to the extent I will now drive 5 miles to a better one.

Best chips for miles! Good size portion at a good price and plenty of other lovely offerings! We used to travel to another chip shop in old basing before new people took over this chippy now there's no need!

First visit here tonight, only a 10 min drive from Basingstoke. Lovely cod and chips! Good prices too. Definitely worth the drive, will definitely be back. Recommended

In hook there are limited choices, and the chippy is ok. Portions are big and prices are reasonable. The quality is a bit inconsistent, so best to catch them when they aren't busy.

Been here twice now but will never go back. Kiddies battered sausage looked & tasted as though it had been wrapped in cardboard...disgusting. Chips just awful too. Avoid this place for sure!!

Not as good as it was before it changed hands! The chips are dry, although you get mahoooosive portions. The sausages are just fat and gristle. The curry sauce is boring and watery. The food now obviously comes from a different supplier, which is a shame as it was absolutely perfect and people used to queue out of the door!

Popped in for quick sausage and chips to see me through the drive to Wales. Very average batter, chewy. Chips ok but missing that traditional crisp outer and fluffy inner.

Fresh food everytime, massive portions of chips but they are always fresh. Nothing seems to be too much trouble and the staff are always pleasant, lovely place.

Really good food and service. Perfect potion size not too big or small. But we paid £44 for fish and chipsx2, mushy peas, side of cockles and 2 lemonades. For fish and chips this is very expensive and we felt bad the whole day that we spent so much money for them, and wished we stayed in Camden market and brought street food.

Cod & chips ok, although skin on fish in 2016 is bit rubbish! Jumbo sausage was like liver pâté and was disgusting? I always buy sausages from fish n chip shops and this is the only place they are inedible! 20 minutes is a long wait for fish n chip takeaway, and I know it was Christmas cracker night, but they should of been prepared & had stuff keeping warm?!

Had takeaway fish and chips at 10 at night. Had to wait for chips to be cooked. No problem. These ended up hot but not completely cooked. The fish was taken from one cooked earlier. Probably some time earlier because the fish was dry and the batter was hard.

We've used this fish and chip shop three times now since we've moved to the area two times were very good and the other occasion was up to the same standard. Overall though very good service and excellent value.

Popped in after getting off the train late one evening. Large fish and chips all served up and wrapped with a smile. Reasonably priced and very nice fish.

Well its been a while since our last visit to this take away as our last meal from here was awful, mainly a bag full of grease and oil.........

The helping of chips was very generous - consider sharing to avoid waste. The fish was disappointing although the batter around it was quite good.

Excellent fish, brilliantly cooked, amazing portion size and in the day of the "triple cooked chip", proper chip shop chips. The locals have already found this place, no not plaice,but please go and enjoy
